I press my seams open so I shorten my stitch length and I have no problem with stitches showing through. I don’t like stitching in the ditch because if you go off it really shows because you’re stitching along a perfectly parallel line. When I press to one side I find you can end up with slightly curved seams of a little pocket if you’re not careful so I think that takes longer to press. I use both methods depending on the block.
If you are experiencing knots while hand sewing binding.... thread has direction as it comes off the spool..... Tie a knot at the end that you cut off at the spool and beeswax your thread .... hope this helps!
That pattern was just from a Recipe Card designed by Miss Rosie Quilts for Moda. You use charms squares and a background. She also makes them for layer cakes.
Could you use safety pins with lettered beads to mark your kit fabrics, without using a marker? In my case that last piece with the marker will be the one I need. It never fails. Thanks for all the tips, very helpful
There are special binding needles one can use. Are the appliqué needles a better option like the size 10 you suggest? I always thought the binding needles were more flexible and sharper for fine work. I have yet to try hand binding so I am open to the better option when learning. It was hard to tell in the video. When taking up two stitches do you place your needle through the loop of the next stitch as to lock it in place? That is how I do hand sewing hems on clothing.
We have not used the specialized binding needles. I guess once you have something that works, you don't mess with success! I read 2 reviews and they were very positive. I tend to use the Clover #10 applique needles for applique and all my hand sewing. We'll have to track down the binding needles, try them and let you all know. As for the 2 stitch method, don't go through the previous loop - just take 2 stitches before pulling the thread all the way through the fabric. Takes getting used to, but is a time saver. Thanks! Teri
Thank you for the advice. I am always open to suggestions and equally intrigued by the comical bantering between sisters as you navigate the art of needle meets thread and fabric with a “twist”. Looking forward to the videos to come and glad you are both on the “mend” with your health!💐

What is the pattern for the little quilt you had on the table? Thanks. And thanks for the options of pressing seams for piecing and quilting in ditch.

The key is to find a system that works for you. We just offered a few.
