My only real issue with Yngwie is that after a while his technique is rather predictable, his lyrics are corny as fuck/dumb especially the ones for I Am a Viking, and then there's his ego.
*I have a story to share, since J.S.S. was asked about Jens and Anders Johasson. In 1985, I believe it was, my buddies and I followed Yngwie's tour bus to their hotel after their Rising Force concert in Corpus Christi, Texas. At the time, Talas was touring with them. Yngwie and Jeff Scott Soto went on in to their rooms after we congratulated them on a show well done. Jens Johansson, Anders Johansson and Marcel Jacob stuck around with us in the parking lot. IMO Rising Force was the best Yngwie album. Its sad he didn't go on in that direction and continued as a normal Rock/Heavy band doing mostly songs instead of instrumental works. With his first album Malmsteen changed entirely the face of electric guitar.
@JEFF SCOTT SOTO, Hey brother i hope you read this, I just wanted to say despite all the things that were out of your control/decision you were hands down the perfect vocalist for Rising Force! I still have my old VHS copy of "Live in Japan 85"(red cover version) with the original line up that was a major influence on me. It was never the same after you left (i am sure many will back me on this) I am really happy to see you continuing in the music biz and not disappear like many do.
He was always one of the best Malmsteen vocalists. I appreciate all these videos we all get to see from you paying these guys to talk and give insight ;)
What a cool cat! My cousin and I were 14 when we saw this dude sing with Yngwie when they opened for AC/DC in 1985 at Nassau Coliseum. Somehow we went alone with no parentals. Killer show; still have a cassette recording somewhere. First two Yngwie records with Jeff are still amazing 35 years later...
Every interview I've ever seen of Jeff he seems like such a cool guy even when he was young which I say just cuz most of us have said stupid shit when we were young, but not Jeff. Plus he is my favorite of all of Yngwie's vocalists I wish he did a lot more records with Rising Force.
I met Jeff Scott Soto after a gig on the Yngwie Rising Force tour. They were the opener (for AC/DC I believe). We managed to find the tour bus at a hotel near the venue. Jeff stepped off the bus, talked to the three of us and was extremely gracious. We were looking for Yngwie, and while meeting Yngwie was thrilling, Jeff was awesome meeting us at the spur of the moment. It's the only time I've ever met him, but I'll never forget it.
This is awesome! Great questions and cool to see his perspective. I must admit it would be cool to see Jeff onstage with Yngwie doing stuff off Marching Out!!
Great interview / cameo. Jeff was incredibly generous with his time on this one, so respect to him, and also for his honesty. Thanks for sharing these clips.
I wish Yngwie would let past be past. I would love to see a tour with Jeff there singing those songs. No one sounds like him, and those were my favorite. Helped me through my teenage years and I thank Jeff, and Yngwie for that.
Great video. Thanks guys. Excellent music. Marching Out was my first tape from Jeff and Yngwie back in the 80's. Jeff your scream 15 seconds into I'll see the light is still epic for starting a song. You two would get a show from alot of fans if you could get back together to do those songs in their entirety for a small tour. And in the states! Not just Europe.
The great Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen, Journey, Transiberian Orchestra, Talisman, Sons of Apollo, etc.) graciously answers my 10 questions about Yngwie Malmsteen, Sons of Apollo, and related matters. Extremely cool! Great stuff! 6/19/20 1) Was it tough being the only non-Swedish musician in Rising Force? 2) Do you have mixed emotions about Yngwie- he gave you an amazing start in the business, yet it seems he could be cold and distant? 3) What were Jens and Anders like? 4) Was that weird seeing the heavily-played video for I’ll See The Light Tonight and hearing YOUR voice, yet SEEING someone else (Marc Boals) lip sync your words? 5) History repeated itself with the video for Carry On Wayward Son: Boals lip syncs your performance! What was that like? 6) Sons of Apollo is seen as “the new Dream Theater” or “Portnoy’s Dream Theater”: Derek on keys, THE SAME LABEL AS DREAM THEATER (Inside Out/Sony---very cool!), another bass legend (Sheehan instead of Myung), another guitar god (Bumblefoot instead of Petrucci) and another vocal god (you instead of LaBrie)….and you guys do a few Dream Theater songs! Thoughts? 7) As a fan, to my shock and surprise, THREE of my Cameo videos became major Blabbermouth articles (and other off-shoot articles), including a Loudwire article! I know Cameos are normally just for birthday shout-outs and so on, but are you alright with the media taking the ball and running with these videos [Cameo DOES say that you can do whatever you want with the video, but I didn’t know some would “blow up” like they have!]? 8) Will Sons of Apollo continue to release new music (I pray the answer is yes)? 9) Brother, how do you NOT age haha? You look the same or better since I saw you with Yngwie way back in July 1985 at the Syria Mosque Ballroom in Pittsburgh with BILLY SHEEHAN’S TALAS opening for you guys? 10) The live Sons of Apollo DVD/Blu Ray is so epic! That HAS to be a highlight of your career! 😊
Great interview. Great to hear these legends speak and see that they're down to earth, interesting guys. And it's true, Jeff doesn't look a day over 40 in this.
Vince, thanks for the work you do with interviews, promotion, etc. for the bands we love. JSS seems like a great, genuine guy. I’ve seen SOA twice in 2020 (pre-Covid of course) and JSS is a great frontman. I’m glad he’s part of this band. Like Portnoy says, he injects some real soulful, hooky melodies in their songs, definitely an integral part of their sound.
R. A. Fiallos thanks, man! Well said about JSS- I saw him way back on 7/9/85 with Yngwie in Pittsburgh (in fact, it is a You Tube bootleg). I always loved his voice.
Jeff is a great vocalist, and always comes across has quite humble and sincere. Can't wait to see you back out there Jeff, with my friend and bass inspiration Mr Billy Sheehan.
Still love Yngwie. Haven't listened for years. JSS was the absolute best vox YJM has ever had! Man! Those were great years! Great songs! What a voice! Thank you JSS!!! Thank you!
The aging question... and his answer is like an innocent kid.... honest as all get out. What a cool spirit. He's the type of dude you just want to have a cold beer with... thanks Jeff and Vince.
Jeff is a legend in my book, one of the truly great vocalists and good guys in music … When I first heard Yngwie on the Steeler album, and then a year later w/ Alcatrazz, I absolutely loved him .. The first few Rising Force albums were great, but ultimately, Yngwie, in my opinion, suffered tremendously because of his inability to take the advice of Dirty Harry : "a man's got to know his limitations" .. Yngwie believes he can go into a studio with no help and replace the expertise and talents of good producers and fellow musicians .. He's wrong .. Yngwie's downfall was Yngwie … Anguish And Fear, On The Run Again and I Am A Viking still stand as some of my favorite metal songs, and they wouldn't be on that list without Jeff … RIP Marcel Jacob ...Great video, thank you for the upload
Jeff is awesome. I don't think that I could express how awesome in a way that would do him justice, so I'll just say, simply, that Jeff Scott Soto is awesome.
I'm glad Soto can rightfully shine after 35 years of grinding. Having the amazing assembly of musicians that make up Sons of Apollo is right where he should be... the man can sing!!! I hope one day that band comes to Florida!!!! Would be a dream come true
Hey Jeff, Ken from Sylmar (Vons) Always loved what you did in the past and Sons of Apollo, man dude totally digging it. Get out to Texas soon. Go Lakers.............eventually😡
No matter what Jeff Scott Soto does all is music with Malmsteen and all other bands he sang for his vocals and song writing are awesome all his music is awesome and I love Sons of Apolo
I seen rising force in woodland hills in California u r a great singer stop listening to yngwie when u not singing with him I'll never forget that show u were great
Hey Mr. Soto this is Charlie! I played bass for a band called Shockwave Evan Snyder played guitar and Matt Heamond played drums and keys. You and Aldy invited us three loonse to record a demo that you not only sang on but pretty much took care of everything. I never really got a chance to say thanks Jeff. You took a song that I wrote rearranged the chorus. Added those bad ass harmonies in backup vocals that you do. The Traveler that little wood shack I built you turned it into a skyscraper. Three of the songs turned out awesome. The fourth song "LOVE" we didn't have time to really put time into it. I wrote that song and I remember the mic wouldn't pick up the acoustic guitar parts I was recording you said to me "It would help if I learned how to play guitar!" Asshole that pissed me off. But i'll tell you what by you saying that to me. Was the kick in the balls that still drives me today. learned a great deal from you Jeff in a real real short period of time. From ego to production tacking a little melody and turning it in to something huge you influenced me to the point of complete ASSHOLE! And I mean this with all the respect in the world brother! Because I make God jealous and drivin to rage and satan quit and now whimpers like a child. Thank you my friend for pushing me that extra mile. Lateeeeeeeeeer!
Vince I can’t believe you did it again! I‘ve seen sooooo many interviews with all these my musical heroes... but somehow what YOU achieve to get as answers to exactly the questions I would like to have answered... awesome. And even these are all professionals and as Jeff says he’s aware that everything he says could backfire at him.... I have the strong feeling that they answer way more frankly and direct no BS than in every „official“ interview. I loved the ones with Jordan and Ron already now this is another gem! Thank you Vince and a thousand thanks to Jeff - he could have done this cameo in 30-60 seconds without breaking the cameo contract... therefore: Great great content guys. Thank you from a huge (!!!) former (1985 until 2010 era... but that stuff of course forever!) DT fan, a massive YJM fan (on Facebook and around my friends from my teenage years I‘m even called Yngwie because of my absolute being a Malmsteen fanboy and desciple) and for the last quarter century the most loyal Mike Portnoy supporter you could think of (after Olav - Project Mankind - Kjielstad)
Jeff is one of my favorite rock singers. Great to hear the inside stories. I read that Jeff worked with Mark St John. I’m very curious to hear about that, and to hear that material.
totally enjoyed this interview. Seems like down to earth , cool guy. Not bitter at all of the Yngwie years. My favorite era. Dont think it would happen, but cool if they paired up again for a track or two.
Jeff Scott Soto and I went to the same high school. He is a few years older than I am. I was fortunate to meet him once at a football game at our high school while I was going there.
Hi Mr.Palamara! Iam really happy watching these videos!Thank you so much! Please if you do again a video with Jeff ask him about Bulgaria and what he think about the other singers who sang with Malmsteen!! Best Regards!!!
Saw them in '85 at Royal Oak Music theater in Detroit. Great show. 20 years later i did monitors for Rising Force at the same venue. Wish jeff could have been there!
Jeff your the best from another Jeff and rising force the best malmsteen by far. Saw yngwie in 86 at zaxx Springfield va..then changed name to Jaxx a few years later.. did jeff sing at this gig? 34 years ago.i wanna say yes.
Soto! Your voice is permanently pressed into my brain. I can cue up I Am A Viking any time I Want and hear entire track in my head. You kicked so much ass. These are groundbreaking albums, not some run or the mill crap. Immortalized forever😎
In 1985, I saw Yngwie with Talas and The Wild Dogs at the Crest Theater in Sacramento Ca. Jeff was in fine voice that night, and it was one of the best shows I'd ever seen... Fast forward to January 2020, and i saw Sons of Apollo with Tony McAlpine at the Crest Theater on the opening night of their tour... Then Covid19 hit, and that was the end of that. Thanks for the Interview, and i hope we all get back to "Normal"... Whatever that is.
thanks for sharing! I was at both 1985 Pittsburgh shows that are on You Tube via bootlegs and Yngwie's Raw DVD. Talas opened for Yngwie. Billy was so cool after the show- he said "I saw you out there pointing!" :)

Jeff seems like such a stand up, and just real guy. Yngwie is one of my idols, but I can totally see how he could come across, especially in the 80’s. Jeff just comes across like a complete class act in his attitudes towards Yngwie.
Hello best wishes from Caracas Venezuela, I think Jeff Scott Soto is a really nice person, very humble and very talent artist. I would like he knew this but i know some case is difficult nevertheless my best wishes to him!!! Long Live Rock N Roll

The Soto Malmsteen albums are by far the best
I'd add Odyssey to that, but after Yngwies first 4 you've heard it all really.
I'll second that....
Absolutely but Odyssey with Joe Lynn Turner deserves kudos.

My favorite singer from all Malmsteen albums, no one can sing I’m a Viking like Jeff! 🤘🏻
That's a pity we'll never listen again Yngwie and Jeff together. I think Jeff's voice suits 100% Yngwie's music.

Journey messed up by not keeping Jeff Scott Soto!
IMO Rising Force was the best Yngwie album. Its sad he didn't go on in that direction and continued as a normal Rock/Heavy band doing mostly songs instead of instrumental works. With his first album Malmsteen changed entirely the face of electric guitar.

Thank you from a huge (!!!) former (1985 until 2010 era... but that stuff of course forever!) DT fan, a massive YJM fan (on Facebook and around my friends from my teenage years I‘m even called Yngwie because of my absolute being a Malmsteen fanboy and desciple) and for the last quarter century the most loyal Mike Portnoy supporter you could think of (after Olav - Project Mankind - Kjielstad)
awesome! Thanks!!
Loved your voice from day one... your personality is even better.
Jeff is one of my favorite rock singers. Great to hear the inside stories.
I read that Jeff worked with Mark St John. I’m very curious to hear about that, and to hear that material.
Your performance on Marching Out is one my favorite metal vocal performances! Kick ass
i saw you with Yngwie on your 21st birthday in Philly at the Spectrum..Great show..Your my favorite Yngwie singer.
You are still the most badass singer Malmsteen ever had. Lots of love to you ❤️
totally enjoyed this interview. Seems like down to earth , cool guy. Not bitter at all of the Yngwie years. My favorite era. Dont think it would happen, but cool if they paired up again for a track or two.
~THANK YOU, For SHARING The VIDEO! : )
I was a huge Yngwie fan from the start. Eventually I grew out of it. Great memories though. Now I get my JSS fix with TSO concerts. Lol 😆
To this day... Malmsteen and Soto... I am a Viking... what a great song!
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing this Vince!
Best Regards!!!
thanks!
Thank you for posting this!
My pleasure! 💙💙💙💙
Saw them in '85 at Royal Oak Music theater in Detroit. Great show. 20 years later i did monitors for Rising Force at the same venue. Wish jeff could have been there!
S.O.A. Amazing band and Jeff your one of the coolest rockers out there.......see you soon
Jeff is THE very best Rising Force voice!
Jeff is definitely a one of a kind and versatile singer, I own every album he is on and every single one of them rock... Skrapp Metal anyone?
Jeff your the best from another Jeff and rising force the best malmsteen by far. Saw yngwie in 86 at zaxx Springfield va..then changed name to Jaxx a few years later.. did jeff sing at this gig? 34 years ago.i wanna say yes.
Jeff is one of the greatest singers on the planet and seems a really great guy.
Soto! Your voice is permanently pressed into my brain. I can cue up I Am A Viking any time I Want and hear entire track in my head.
You kicked so much ass.
These are groundbreaking albums, not some run or the mill crap.
Immortalized forever😎
I was at the show he mentioned in Pittsburgh 1985 Syria Mosque Ballroom. The best Yngwie lineup!
@@VincePalamarasecretservicejfk How old is that pic of yourself, you look pretty young. I'm gonna be 60 years old this year, I've got gray hair, and to look at me, you wouldn't think i was a metal fan. in fact, i look like your typical grampa!! But I've been listening to hard rock & metal for over 50 years!! My how the time does fly... Subbed.
@@leddygee1896 From 2018. I am turning 54 tomorrow! Good genes, happy, never smoked or drank or did drugs or had kids LOL! Happily married; all of the above :) I am still a kid---look how I am a fanboy reaching out to these guys :)
@@leddygee1896 that is awesome!
@@VincePalamarasecretservicejfk Happy Birthday, my friend!! I can't claim to have never drank or did drugs, but i did quit smoking cigarettes at the end of January (Right after the S.O.A. show) when i got really sick, but I'll tell ya' it's the best thing I've done in a long time, I feel so much better!! When was your first D.T. show?
Jeff seems like such a stand up, and just real guy. Yngwie is one of my idols, but I can totally see how he could come across, especially in the 80’s. Jeff just comes across like a complete class act in his attitudes towards Yngwie.
Hello best wishes from Caracas Venezuela, I think Jeff Scott Soto is a really nice person, very humble and very talent artist. I would like he knew this but i know some case is difficult nevertheless my best wishes to him!!! Long Live Rock N Roll
Hey Vince, thank you so much for these videos
Elliot my pleasure! 😊👍
He looks and sounds and talk like a very very nice and straight up guy....and his singing voice is like thunder.
This was awesome... great Q & A.
