Thanks so much for sharing with us Val, I have been relaxed for years. There are so many videos for natural hair but very few for relaxed hair that we can relate to. Please don't think I'm bashing natural ladies ya'll. I was natural for the first 13 years of my life, relaxers just work better for me.

I've worked in an high end salon for 4 years, and we've always shampooed, deep condition, then run the conditioner through he hair briefly after the deep conditioner is rinsed out. so YES, go straight for the "Good Stuff"!
Hot oil treatments are awesome for my hair. I deep condition straight after washing. My hair does extremely well/thrives with heat only once a month. Thanks Val!
I long for the day I will find a professional stylist who really understand the science of black hair. The health hair journey is very challenging when u can't do most of the things by urself. Thanks for the tips Sunshine

Yeah … I feel you on the double heat. I have a blow dryer & a flat iron but usually when I do my weekly washing and conditioning.. I usually blow dry my hair then put my hair in a loose bun or ponytail… I have a $200 flat iron & I barely use it. I don’t see the need plus blow drying AND flat ironing that’s too much work… also I workout a lot so ain’t no point in doing all of that when I workout 5x per week 🤷🏽♀️
I wish I didn't need to do both but blow drying just doesn't cut it. Especially if I'm stretching. Buy using heat protectant (blow dry serum) has helped.
Thank you for sharing and teaching us how to have healthy hair. I went back to relaxed hair after 11 years of being natural. You inspired me and I'm looking forward to my new healthy relaxed hair journey. My hair thrived natural and relaxed. I'm 50+ and you have taught me a lot. So I used a Lye relaxer for the first time today, I love it. I have fine hair but my middle gets real thick when my new growth comes in. When I was natural back in 2019 to 2020, my hair grew but not pass my shoulders. Once I started relaxing every 3 months or longer in 2020, my hair is now almost arm pit length. I deep condition like crazy and wash my hair weekly. I use a hair bond, not Olaplex, I can't think of the name right now, I went blank, lol, but Ulta sells it, that helped my hair with the growth as well. I drink plenty of Core water as well. I love your tips.

Hi Val! My hair is not relaxed, yet I find your videos to be truly informative. There are things that I starting doing to my silk pressed hair about 3-4 years ago, before finding you on TH-cam. I do them to maintain the health of my hair, thickness and length and they are similar to what you do. They have been working wonderfully for my hair. Thank you so much for such useful information that is helpful to many of us. 😊

Thanks for this video, I no longer feel like the odd person out for not doing weaves and braids anymore. I learned the hard way that for me, it only brought breakage. Also another big lesson I learned thanks 🙏🏽 to you was I was using too much protein. From the shampoo to the leave in was loaded with it and it showed in my hair. 💜💜💜Love your videos, super informative. You have helped me in my hair journey tremendously. I quit my stylist last year because he wasn’t giving my hair the love and care that it needs, after finding your channel I’m sooooo glad I did.
@@HairliciousIncThank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I texturized my 13 years hair for the first time a week ago leaving it in her hair for about 7mins total, it did losing the curl but it's not as straight as we would like, it puffy. I wanted to know if I could use a relaxer the next time and should I do the whole head again. She is 4 cdef...Its definitely more manageable.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this content Val! Your delivery is so clear and concise. I typically do straight back cornrows or braids for vacations and it works great. And I agree, the less you have hands (or a comb) in your hair the more it will thrive. My "go to" protective style is two flat twist. It's best thing ever!!
Pulled some great tips from you even though my hair is natural now. I think I need to stop detangling in the shower. Everyone said do it at first but I feel like I'm losing too much hair!
For a tip if you don’t want to use harsh dye on your hair then I would recommend using henna dye for your grays. It’s natural, safe for your scalp and it actually strengthens your hair. It will make your grays somewhat between a dark brown to a light auburn color depending on application, and will make your hair a deep reddish-brownish color but only really visible in the sunlight (bc of your dark strands).
Spot on about lye relaxers being better for hair, harsher on scalp. I've been on lye for 20 years. My hair is mid back, and that's because I cut it to keep it that length.
I love ❤️ the fingers as a comb. I do use my fingers (not nails) to message daily. Plus, I rarely shampoo. I message and then use my own hair rinse or steeped rosemary and mint.
Wow, so I recently came to several realisations about my relaxed hair and you've mentioned about 90% of the things I have decided to start or stop doing based on what I have learned over time. Now if this video was out like 2 years ago, it would've saved me a lot of hair loss and heartbreak 😥. Thanks all the same, I'm grateful for you sharing your experiences, it's great to know that these steps have worked for someone else.
Very useful tips! Especially number 10. I’m always combing my hair for no apparent reason, and because of that I’ve been experiencing a lot of breakage, of course plus all the other stuff I’ve been doing wrong
Happy to have found your channel. In a few days ,I will be getting my hair relaxed after 10 yrs. There is not alot of relaxed hair content on TH-cam so your videos have been appreciated!
Texlax is for me. I wear wigs due to time. Take it off when home. 8 weeks between relaxers. No braids or twists no flat ironing just smoothing with a warm pressing comb. Placed in a back twist supported by a nonbrakage rubber band. No combing for three days. No breakage seen. Good hair growth. Trim as needed, but not cut just dusting. My hair grows slowly about less than half inch a month. But it is thick. Less see thru. Shoulder length. Use bjco. 3 time a week. Wash with conditioner. Silk scarf at night. Then be content with the process
@@wandabailey2873 Ok. Thanks. With your personal experience since you have been drinking this for some time what the estimate time that you noticed the color of your hair changing?
Omg!!,so true,I wore weaves and it thinned my hair out,I could hear my hair popping as she braided it,she would say no my hair is not breaking ,but I could see it thinning out. Now my hair is so thick and growing like weeds.
It’s been twenty weeks since my last relaxer at the end of this month I’ll relax it.. i havent’t used any heat for seven years now I’ve learned the hard way. My hair is healthy because of it… I dry my hair thoroughly with a t-shirt and let it dry naturally…
2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
I ONLY comb while wet. Literally not a strand in my brush. But I don't brush until the next wash. Just use my fingers the next few days to a week
I have natural hair that needs daily moisturizing & Sealing or else severe dryness. So now i tried Shampoo, Condition then deep conditioner The dryness disappeared. I moisturize& Seal every 3 days now with less moisturizer and oil. I used to trim my own hair but on my last trim i asked my sister to trim my hair. Omg she was able to trim in no time like a professional. I think it's easier to have another person trim your hair.
I used to roller set my hair with the black rollers with the netting and those pink stick pins and let it dry naturally..my hair was at it's healthiest!!
Only works if your hair dries in 8 hours naturally. Some unfortunate souls have hair that us still wet after 48 hours and that is bad for the hair and the scalp. Bacteria and fungus love warm damp dark places. Hygral fatigue/mushy happens in strands that have been wet for too long.
After using the deep conditioner with the oil do you rinse afterwards or do you have to shampoo the hair again to get the oil + deep conditioner mixture out of the hair. Also how much oil to deep conditioner do you use?
Thank you so much for your hair regimen tips. Even though I am considered natural, I still find your do’s and don’ts helpful on my journey to healthier, thicker, and longer hair. I definitely am subscribing to your Chanel.
I'm relaxed as well, long protective hair styles work for me, I don't do hot treatments, I'll use keratins and proteins as well, I also do lye relaxers too. I shampoo in the sink, but I think I'll try the shower again. I do relaxers from 10 - 20 weeks, depending on the season, I double heat because blow drying isn't it without a bristle brush, but air drying takes way to long for me. I don't comb in the shower either, but I only comb once per day or use my hand to detangle for the rest of that day. I also comb my hair the day of my relaxer because I am tender headed, so if my natural hair isn't detangled, I'm feeling that pain. I also don't dye my hair or self trim.
Have you ever tried knotless braids? I been doing for almost a year and it helped my hair grow so much. I oil it and spray leave in every couple of days.
Yessss, I do them myself and they do help with hair growth. I like when I do my own braids because they aren't as tight as when they get done at the salon.
If you don’t comb through your hair often aside from wash days, what do you to to wrap your hair? I’m trying to avoid coming it too much but I wrap my hair every night
@@HairliciousInc nope! Didn’t even wear a bonnet to sleep 🥲 just kept it moisturised. My hair stylist was shocked and said it’s the thickest and healthiest she’s ever seen it. Guess, for me, the less I manipulate it, the better.
@@HairliciousInc Haha yup. Moisturised and sealed. And when I washed my hair (every 2 weeks usually) I would use a biotin shampoo (blue bottle from amazon) and carol’s daughter conditioner. I only deep conditioned (using heat) about 3-4 times during the 6 month period. And used a protein mask 3x. Also, as you said, I would rarely comb my hair. Maybe once or twice a week. Rarely ever left it down too.
Hi Val , My moms name is Valarie . Thanks ,for the tips definitely stopped using much heat. I don’t do protective styles either. I’m thinking switching relaxers I’ve been using affirm Avalon no lye for years . I wear buns and wigs on and off that’s about it .
Thanks for the info, we have a lot in common with the things I don't do, I try to comb my hair every 2 to 3 days and can't strech much either at 10 to 12 weeks, that is it!
Great video, very informative. My hair has become more and more gray but along with my hair growing longer, my hair along my crown is becoming very thin. Could be due to health reasons or vitamin deficiencies. The only time heat touches my hair is during retouches but I’m thinking of foregoing both blow drying and flat ironing my next visit to see if it’ll make a difference; will opt to air dry instead.
I hate blow drying and flat ironing, but when I go to a ‘high end’ salon they do this. Not sure how to get around this with them, because they would look at me crazy if I tell them not use it.
Thank for sharing with us, can't wait to see your relaxing video. I relax my hair for years can't count went natural 2 years ago and this year I'm going back to relaxing again.
Your contents are really great and clear🙏🏾. I tried your deep conditioning method and it's AMAZING!😃 I am experiencing more breakage since I am stretching my hair for 6months now😩. Will have my touch up soon and then I will stretch for 3-4months and see how that goes. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve always done long-term protective styles and my hair has suffered as a result. After 20 years I’m realizing that fine thin hair and extensions don’t really work.
Same. It was the trichologists that told me to only do twists, flat twists, finger coils and two or three French braids. Anything else was causing micro fractures on my strands. They showed me under the trichoscope.
Thanks Val, you've been an inspiration to my hair journey. I've learnt alot from you, and my hair is thriving and I share these ideas with friends and family. ❤
I just got my first relaxer ever, how do you know when it's time to relax again? You will experience breakage of too soon? I see 10-12 weeks, some people say 16 etc etc. But how do you know what works best for you with your hair? What are the signs? Thank you for any information
I do most of the things you do except the relaxer part, I use the no lye relaxer in the box, but I want to change that and do what you do. Thanks for the tip.
I’ve always loved your videos! I’m Loc’d as of 6/30/16 however comma you definitely helped out in my relaxed hair journey! Keep up these beautiful information videos.😘 P.S. relaxers worked best for me in the past 😉 Thank you again 🥰
@@HairliciousInc yes sis low maintenance if you really don’t do much with your hair but I like to style them once a month! I also love to give queens their flowers while they’re still here and you definitely deserve yours! What I will say is that I still use jbco with my locs during the summer and winter because of you! So thank you sis!
I use a comb after i wash and condition. Then i use my Fingers and pulm of my hands. They are better than comb because they are warm which my hair loves. My hair loves my fingers.
I love when you share and talk about your hair do and don't I recently started to use the lye relaxer because it's cheaper am from Jamaica I noticed that when I stretch my relaxer too long my scalp burns a lot the no lye relaxer does nothing for me anymore I used it while going to school years ago so I also started combing my hair less and notice that my hair growth improved a lot so I love your videos I will continue to watch them in my hair journey and most of all I don't use a lot of product in my hair. One love always
I have to condition before deep conditioning since they don't tend to have enough slip to comb my hair out. I actually like to condition, detangle, and add my deep conditioner on top since I feel like deep conditioners can cause tangles even after combing it. To make sure the deep conditioner works as well as possible I keep like with like (aussie 3 min miracle on top of aussie moist, shea moisture over shea moisture or some other botanical silicone free conditioner, trader joes hair mask with the tea tree tingle, etc)
Thanks for sharing! I don’t do some of these also. Like long term protective styles. I have done them, but they usually only last for about 4 weeks. Haven’t done it in years though. But some I do do! Lol. Like washing my hair in the sink. I can’t get jiggly with going in and out of the shower. It uses so much much water and I hate water in my ears. I’ve learned to wash and rinse sideways in the sink.
@@HairliciousInc No problem! I either use the sprayer or put my head far enough for the water to rinse it. I have a wash day video that kinda shows what I do. It may be the last or second to last video I posted.
Great tips. I apply my hot oil treatment prior to wetting my hair as instructed but since I do eventually use heat with my deep conditioner, it may make sense to combine those steps...hmm. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Sunshine 🌞, I always look forward to your videos. I love love the way way you present them, they are fun to watch and at the same time very informative, so I find myself watching them over and over again. You always look awemazing.
I use olive oil relaxer some parts of me think I should switch to just for me. For some reason I always burn I hate it cause it leaves bald spots. what should I try?
Thinking of using lye. My question is :After using the lye once, can u keep the rest and use it for the another time? Would it be ok sitting for long after opening?
I'm 71... really big chopped and went natural 2016.... my hair now is a bit pass waist length...hoping it'll grow longer with care! No braids, no protective styles, no hair weave,no wigs,no texturizer, no relaxers, no heat... not stuck buying too many products ....it's a no for me😂 I just couldn't stand the smell of relaxer and neutralizer anymore.
Thanks a ton, sis!! For vacation, I think that’s practical🙌🏾💕
I do straight back flat twists. Cornrows break my hair. It's ultra fine.
@@marleyhill34 Ahhhh, I've never tried flat back twists. I'll certainly give it a try. Thank you!
It will make your grays somewhat between a dark brown to a light auburn color depending on application, and will make your hair a deep reddish-brownish color but only really visible in the sunlight (bc of your dark strands).
great info..where can I get that henna dye from?
@@honeycomb4073 I get mine from Amazon
@@giftd18 going to check that out, appreciate 🤗
Henna and relaxer wouldnt mix well together becareful
These were great tips! I comb my hair daily but I may try using my fingers instead to see how my hair responds
Or just try fingers first and then your comb after - if finger detangling alone doesn’t work😉
@@HairliciousInc since I watched this, I have stopped combing everyday and surprisingly my fingers do the job well. Thanks for the tips
Spot on about lye relaxers being better for hair, harsher on scalp. I've been on lye for 20 years. My hair is mid back, and that's because I cut it to keep it that length.
I love her alot she go straight to the point not so much talk. Love you darling nd keep motivating us.
I completely understand the feeling of combing your hair wet. I stopped doing that and my hair has been thriving.
Your vibes are so relaxing, positive, and I love it!!
Awww💋 appreciate you, girl!
Val you are simply the best. Ever sis I started following you my hair is the healthiest it has ever been. Still on that castor oil challenge
Awww🥺 kudos to you for being so committed. Love that! Wishing you healthy hair, sis!!
@@HairliciousInc Thank you dear 🙏🏽
I love ❤️ the fingers as a comb. I do use my fingers (not nails) to message daily. Plus, I rarely shampoo. I message and then use my own hair rinse or steeped rosemary and mint.
Finger combing has been a useful skill💕🙌🏾
Thanks so much hun! Happy to have you here💕
All the best on your relaxer day.
@@kurlymeka thank you!
I just love how you go through all of your videos so detailed but to the point!
Great Video! I just recently noticed that my tangles are significantly less when I wash in the shower and not over the sink.
1st off…You’re gorgeous!
2nd thank you so much for the info
3rd WhaT is that gorgeous lip color you’re wearing? Stunning!
Aww thank you sis!! This lip colour was NYX butter gloss cinnamon roll!! It’s a classic👌🏾💕
@@HairliciousInc thank you so much! It’s made for You! 💖
@@desireehaynes9151 my gosh! You are the sweetest. Thank youuu.

Great video but on another note I so miss the original hairlista website I learnt so much from that site about so many aspects of life....
The kind of blackstrap molasses I take to revert gray hair is Plantation try to find organic or Unsulphured I couldn’t find with both
Do you put molasses in your drink or food? How often do you consume it?
@@rayebaldwin9086 I put 1 tablespoon in 1 cup of hot green tea every morning it works be patient
@@wandabailey2873 Ok. Thanks. With your personal experience since you have been drinking this for some time what the estimate time that you noticed the color of your hair changing?
I thought I saw on one of the videos your deep condition on dry hair with your steamer then wash. Your hair is healthy and beautiful.
Omg!!,so true,I wore weaves and it thinned my hair out,I could hear my hair popping as she braided it,she would say no my hair is not breaking ,but I could see it thinning out.
Now my hair is so thick and growing like weeds.
What did you do? Follow her steps
@hairlicious Inc I would recommend a detangling brush. It is a game changer when it comes to detangling
It’s been twenty weeks since my last relaxer at the end of this month I’ll relax it.. i havent’t used any heat for seven years now I’ve learned the hard way. My hair is healthy because of it… I dry my hair thoroughly with a t-shirt and let it dry naturally…
I ONLY comb while wet. Literally not a strand in my brush. But I don't brush until the next wash. Just use my fingers the next few days to a week
Awesome 👌🏾
I love my Gray hair! I'll be 60 on the 11th..
It's just a sign of Wisdom..
You look Beautiful lady.. ALWAYS 😍 ❤
tfs God Bless you ❣ 🙏🏽
I have natural hair that needs daily moisturizing & Sealing or else severe dryness. So now i tried Shampoo, Condition then deep conditioner
The dryness disappeared.
That's very important information, thank you! My hair is so fine it dries within an hour... @marleyhill34
I never relaxed my hair and I totally agree with you for those tips!
Got my hair relaxed at a salon and my hair has been shedding every since I will never do that again thank you so much for the hair tips
I don’t wrap my hair nightly but I put on my scarf and bonnet every night. I only wrap my hair when it’s freshly flat ironed.
I went 6 months without touching up (not by choice) and it wasn't too bad, thank God.
Wow. Did you use any long term protective styles during that time?
@@HairliciousInc nope! Didn’t even wear a bonnet to sleep 🥲 just kept it moisturised. My hair stylist was shocked and said it’s the thickest and healthiest she’s ever seen it. Guess, for me, the less I manipulate it, the better.
Amazing yet so rare! Less manipulation is always a good thing. So you mainly moisturized and sealed?
Great tips! Definitely going to try incorporating the finger combing to reduce breakage.
Thanks for the info, we have a lot in common with the things I don't do, I try to comb my hair every 2 to 3 days and can't strech much either at 10 to 12 weeks, that is it!
Me too
Great video, very informative.
Thanks for watching💕
It’s the make up and hair in this video for me!!! Wait…thanks for the tips too@hairlicious
Thank you so much!! xoxo
Your contents are really great and clear🙏🏾. I tried your deep conditioning method and it's AMAZING!😃
I am experiencing more breakage since I am stretching my hair for 6months now😩.
Loved the information. As long as the hair is healthy. Natural/Relaxed... it's ok with me🤗 great channel. Keep going sis!💖
Thanks Val, you've been an inspiration to my hair journey. I've learnt alot from you, and my hair is thriving and I share these ideas with friends and family. ❤
That relaxer is the best’ and my fav! Will try these tips and see how my hair takes on
Do you workout? If so, can you make a video on how you maintain your hair during workouts?
headband wigs are such a vibe!
Can't wait to get one!
I havent used box relaxers in my hair for yearsss too and my hair is flourishing
Yup 🙌🏾 💕
I just got my first relaxer ever, how do you know when it's time to relax again? You will experience breakage of too soon? I see 10-12 weeks, some people say 16 etc etc. But how do you know what works best for you with your hair? What are the signs? Thank you for any information
I’m looking for this info as well! I’m hoping to relax soon and would like to know the signs for touch up
I do most of the things you do except the relaxer part, I use the no lye relaxer in the box, but I want to change that and do what you do. Thanks for the tip.
I’ve always loved your videos! I’m Loc’d as of 6/30/16 however comma you definitely helped out in my relaxed hair journey! Keep up these beautiful information videos.😘 P.S. relaxers worked best for me in the past 😉
Thank you again 🥰
Aww thank you Jazmyne for the love and support. My sis is loc'd too!! Love how low maintenance locs are.
Really makes sense not to wash hair in sink the way you described. I noticed it got really difficult to detangle my hair too if I wash over the sink
Do you use rice water or natural recipes like mayonnaise with egg and oils or alovera in your relaxed hair?
Thanks for sharing! I don’t do some of these also. Like long term protective styles. I have done them, but they usually only last for about 4 weeks. Haven’t done it in years though. But some I do do! Lol. Like washing my hair in the sink. I can’t get jiggly with going in and out of the shower. It uses so much much water and I hate water in my ears. I’ve learned to wash and rinse sideways in the sink.
Thanks for watching, sis. Sideways sounds like it could work! How do you get the nape though?
@@HairliciousInc No problem! I either use the sprayer or put my head far enough for the water to rinse it. I have a wash day video that kinda shows what I do. It may be the last or second to last video I posted.
If I had a spray/attachment then I would be all for it!! Definitely checking out your video😉
@@HairliciousInc Yeah the attachment does make it easier. Thanks, I would appreciate that!
Great tips. I apply my hot oil treatment prior to wetting my hair as instructed but since I do eventually use heat with my deep conditioner, it may make sense to combine those steps...hmm. Thanks!
Thank youuu 💕
I do a hot oil treatment as a prepoo then wash and deep condition my hair and it always feels amazing after
Thanks for sharing Sunshine 🌞, I always look forward to your videos. I love love the way way you present them, they are fun to watch and at the same time very informative, so I find myself watching them over and over again. You always look awemazing.
Aww you are so sweet💕 I appreciate your kind words and love!! Thank you.
My hair feels like its bursting when wet. Combing out with my conditioner or treatments worked for years
Currently I do not colour, relax, texturised or use heat on my hair. It is so fragile it would snap off straight to damaged.
Same but Olaplex is making things look stronger.
Sage is such a beautiful color on you
Thanks babes🙏🏾💕
I'm 71... really big chopped and went natural 2016.... my hair now is a bit pass waist length...hoping it'll grow longer with care! No braids,
no protective styles, no hair weave,no wigs,no texturizer, no relaxers, no heat... not stuck buying too many products ....it's a no for me😂 I just couldn't stand the smell of relaxer and neutralizer anymore. I really started considering My Health i didn't want the relaxer going in the pores of my scalp 🤦🏾
Everyone has a choice relaxed or natural👍🏼 Different Strokes for different folks!😁
TAKE CARE EVERYONE!

Why come on a channel to say that? Good for you, but honestly that's not every one, and the bragging is unnecessary, unbecoming and quite frankly pointless.
Wow, it just goes to further confirm that everyone's growth hair journey is unique. Also, the hair types we have play a role. My hair grows naturally fast, and it doesn't take much manipulation to grow. Thank you for sharing your hair journey.
Thank you so much for all the help, because of taking your advice I’ve been able to get my edges back and less shedding
A lot of people have noticed a difference, I had to take an inch off only because it’s my old see through ends but my hair is thriving something crazy
So happy to hear this!! Health over length, sis.
I reckon sis, I loose a bunch of hair after I take down box braids and weaves and it's so itchy. I have decided to do wigs or nothing at all. Just want to take care of my hair. Thanks for the video.
Wigs all the way, sis. Thanks for watching!
Thanks again Val as always helpful tips. So a week before relaxer you clarify, shampoo, protein treatment on wet hair, deep condition the air dry? I go about 13 weeks back of hair grows faster than front. Thanks luv for the video💗
Yes, that's right!! Thanks for watching.
great video. natural hair should not be manipulated too much as you stated, especially black hair.less manipulation thicker and fuller
I relate to tip one i dont think my hair enjoys protective styles at all 😢😢😢😢😢😢 so odd because many swear by it
Thank you for getting straight to the point.
what tips do you guys have for breakage? as my new growth grows in after my perm , I have breakage mostly in the nape and edges.
