    Was going to pickup this same computer... now i know to steer clear of it... thank you so much. Knowing you have such a great processor and handicap it by single channel ram should be a crime.

    Just a quick correction. Regarding RAM upgrades, the information on the video is specific to the AMD version of the P16S workstation, which does not have the optional RAM slot to upgrade. This amazing workstation can be purchased with an Intel or AMD CPU. The Intel version has a soldered onboard RAM and a spare/ second RAM slot to upgrade. Hopefully, this helps anyone looking to buy the Intel version.

    Thank you very much. I assumed there were two m.2 slots, but P16 has two and the p16s apparently only one. I am going to do the same procedure with a 4 TB WD Black SN850X, hope it works out. One tip, it is recommended not to touch the contact surfaces with your fingers.

    I have a house full of both Mac and Windows (mostly Thinkpad) computers, and the only reason I didn't buy a new Mac Mini was the soldered on memory. Grrr. However, being able to upgrade the SSD is golden for me. Currently shopping for a new Thinkpad, and this video was very useful. And being german/norwegian, your delivery is exiting enough for me. Ha ha, I make a herring sandwich now.

    This was great. thanks for the video. Is there any chance that you could upgrade/add the storage to an empty WWAN slot? Is this even possible. It would be interesting to see if it is done and certainly would help many.

      Some wwan slots have enough lanes to support but it varies per device.

    Hi, would be very usefull to add CristalDiskMark results before and after the upgrade. That will show the improvment in this upgrade. Please consider it. THanks

    Is it a noisy laptop? How much fan noise under "normal" usage (i.e. browsing, watching TH-cam etc...), and how much noise does it generate when under load (i.e. compiling Linux kernels etc...)? Also, is the WiFi card soldered on too?

    I have had both ssd's. I've seen much better power consumption on the SK Hynix drives than the samsung one (this is 2 yrs ago so maybe this has changed).

    • @305TechOfficial
      @305TechOfficial  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shouldn’t make a difference since they both consume the same amounts. NVME drives are 5-10w if gen3 and 7-15W gen 4. Interesting idea though.

    how did you re-install windows? Did you have your own additional product key?

    • @305TechOfficial
      @305TechOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The key is embedded into the motherboard, I’ll make a video how to reinstall windows soon.

    Great teardown! To the point video. This is how tech videos should be. If possible could you also do P14s review. Also I am looking to buy workstation laptop and thinking about P14s, should I go with AMD or Intel? I like AMD but then upgradability is out of window. Do you think Intel 12gen i5-1240p will be good and there won't be heating issues. I want laptop to last atleast 7 years.

      I’d stay away from the 14S series Lenovos, they thermal throttle.

  • @rastamoto

    I have this PC. Is your P16s able to cast? Mine is saying that it is not compatible with Miracast and I am having a tough time figuring out which component to upgrade to make it possible.

    • @rastamoto
      @rastamoto ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @305tech it ended up being a driver issue. A windows update screwed up the driver and Lenovo helped me fix it.

      No, as far as I know it is only for a WWAN card, and it has a whitelist of the specific cards that you can use... but not 100% sure

    I wonder if single channel DDR5 is better than Dual Channel DDR4. For some tasks dual channel DDR4 can increase performance by 20%. So this laptop having single channel ram makes me suspicious :)
