    For the organza bags...I worried about trapping the caterpillars too. I also worried about the stuck frass creating a more toxic environment. So I opened the bags a little thinking it would help. The next day many of my first instars disappeared, and I found a wasp trapped in one of the bags. Darnit!

      Noooooooo, I’m thinking, maybe just use the bags to protect eggs and tiny babies, then completely remove them. Then, either move the caterpillars or let them be. I talk more about it in my video that should post tonight.

    I love these video's! It's gone so much colder in the Uk, weird for August (our hottest month usually!) so this is nice ♥

      @@ButterflyGardeningwithSusan That's so cool! I hope she has the best time and enjoys every minute. We're having a lot of rain atm (I'm in S. Wales) and it's kinda chilly especially the evenings! I'm raising a lot of cabbage white butterflies as they're all I could find lol and also some pots of Painted Ladies from a company. I once raised 15 Small Tortoiseshell butterflies I found as caterpillars under ant attack. I really love I found you because we are so similar! Love love the organza bags idea that's genius! ♥ Thank you for the reply ♥

      My daughter loves it there, she might want to stay. 😂😂. I’ll have to look up tortoise shell butterflies, I don’t think we have those here.

    Re: the dahlias, I grow them and people laugh at me because I don't do the doubles or multi-petals I stay with the singles as the bees and butterflies adore them! So while mine aren't as pretty and my friends enjoy gorgeous types like Cafe Du Lait, I'm here with my 99p store singles I get as bulbs but that's okay the wildlife love it! Just thought I'd mention that there's soo many different varieties and yours look like "fancy" doubles sort of types so if you don't see much wildlife on them that might be why. Bees and butterflies do love dahlias though at least in the Uk, the ones with a few petals and a nice little yellow button center ♥♥

      Can you tell me what to look for? Do the singles have names? (I know very little about Dahlias)

    Hi Susan! This year I'm getting a lot of cats, who, for some reason are going into chrysalis mode when they're way too tiny to be doing so. Some have completed the chrysalis and others are still hanging, pre chrysalis. Both monarchs and eastern swallowtails. I don't have much hope that any of them will make it. I think I got to them before the tachinid flies could have. Has this happened to you before?

    • @ButterflyGardeningwithSusan
      @ButterflyGardeningwithSusan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow, no. It sounds like something is stunting their growth. I have not experienced this, so I am not much help. Maybe pesticide exposure, could be overspray from a neighbor, mosquito control by your city.
