I've always heard different theories on why Jason is a grown man and has invincibility, but I have my own ideas. I personally think he did survive the drowning when he was a child and snuck off into the woods (possibly to avoid the bullying of the other kids after that incident) and then years later when Pamela was killed, discovered her and that's what set him off on his killing spree. I do find this a bit more plausible since up until Jason Lives, he wasn't undead (at least, not from my perspective since he didn't look like a walking corpse in Part II, Part III and the Final Chapter. Just a disfigured man). I think after Jason Lives is when he REALLY became invincible because of the lightning strike at the beginning, and of course undead haha. I also remember reading that there was a different backstory to his drowning in which instead of being pushed in by bullies, Jason snuck out in the middle of the night to prove he could swim. I wouldn't think that'd work since the camp counselors were likely asleep (which would invalidate that they were doing it when they were supposed to be watching him). These are all just my own perspectives and theories, and I'm open to hearing others!
This was shown to be true in the Friday the 13th Reboot where at the start of the film Jason finds his mother dead in the 80’s and keeps her head until 2009 when the film takes place he’s also a defensive outdoorsman in this movie he’s shown to only kill people who were disturbing his property
Some fans think that he survived and was kidnapped by a deranged pedophile hermit and held captive for years hence the old shack from part 2 and that the torment he endured turned him into a monster.
in my opinion I think it makes more sense that Jason didn't actually drown he just washed up on the other side of the lake and lived in the woods, this could also explain why Jason looks like an adult it could be the muscle from living in the woods and building his own shack, this is most likely copium as i think that Jason being a deadite kinda takes away form the character in my opinion
I suspect that the demon Jason's mother made a deal with was her second helper, and per contract animated her son's body with the his soul to claim the final kill. Deal concluded, it returned the soul and possessed a better human vessel
@@Kurze1988 it is just funnt how CZ went on about how the opinion of the director of Jason Lives doesn't matter but the opinion of the director of the worst Jason movie is suddenly cannon
As a hardcore F13 lore nerd, this is probably the best and most accurate continuity breakdown I've seen. Only a few corrections. F13 8 most likely takes place in either 1994 or 1996. JGTH is anywhere between 1999 and 2001. FvsJ is 2003. Over on the NOES side, Freddy's Dead is 1999, ten years after pt 5 and four before FvJ. Your method for narrowing down the years makes sense but for JTM you can say it's not on a Friday the 13th while JGTH and FvsJ can be narrowed down with the NOES timeline.
I can't believe you discussed Jason teleporting a few times and then didn't bring it up during JTM where he does it the most. That stair scene is crazy lol
@@HivelordTempura hey thanks buddy things have been getting better I actually aquired enough to rent a bedroom in New Jersey and I was able to go search for work will keep everyone updated ❤️🩹 thank you for being here in these rough times I appreciate it truly
Just something to add, I'm only in the beginning of the video but I'm pretty sure that Jason didn't actually drown when he was little, but he escaped into the woods, finally dying in part 4 after he got the machete in his head. He was then revived in part 6 making him invincible. To be fair I'm going off of the remake for this one though.
The deadite theory is kinda lame. I just figured he nearly drowned but got swept to a different area of the lake and found by someone in a shack and he just learned to live off the area. Lending credence to the idea of his drip in the first few films. It also explains his keen tracking and hunting ability, along with his great sense of direction. I also assume the near drowning led to maybe a long term memory loss, explaining why he never connected with his mother again until after her end.
I love your videos! Maybe do Smile next? You’re always so thorough and informative. I love it because horror is my favorite genre. You give me a whole new outlook/knowledge on my favorite characters and movies. Thank you 😊🧡
With the whole Evil Dead thing, just because Kandarian magic plays a part in Jason's origin doesn't necessarily mean that he's a Deadite. I think he's a different kind of entity, but he's clearly not just a Deadite.
You did get at least one thing wrong. Pamela Voorhees wasn't channeling Jason's spirit as he never did actually drown. The reasoning for this is that Part 2 takes place at most a year later, and by then, Jason is fully grown. She DID use it, thinking Jason was dead, but the spell of resurrection didn't work because he wasn't actually dead. The first official death of Jason was in Part 4. That's why he was able to come back in Part 6, Jason Lives, because the spell only works on those who have died, and Jason was dead by then.
@GuilynSlothbear the reason why we are pointing this is out is because Jason would still be a child (or a teenager at most) by the time the second movie takes place. Few months or a years isn't gonna magically turn Jason from an underaged kid to a hulking grown man
One of Horror’s Iconic Villains got a History Spotlight Hopefully for the others like Leatherface, Victor Crowley, or Pinhead to have their History in the future
14:17 Jason never actually drowned, after escaping the water he fled into the woods waiting for Pamela to find him, living off bugs and plants for like 22 years. Part 2, 3, and 4 is a human Jason and part 6 and onwards he's a zombie
@enenra6417 Freddy vs Jason could exist in a universe where 6-9 never happened and Jason is in hell after being killed by Tommy or after part 8 where he could have been killed by the toxic waste.
A phenomenal video as always! Made this year's Halloween even better. Although I'm more of a supporter of the official explanation of Jason's story - that he didn't in fact drown and was a human from Parts 2 through 4 and then returned as 'Zombie Jason' from Part 6 onwards, your research and theories were excellent!!!
Except Deadites aren't undead individuals they're usually evil spirits posessing the dead, Jason wouldn't have his personality or memories that way, and yet he does.
Well, Jason goes to hell isn't canon to the Friday the 13th movies, pay attention to the timeframe and Jason already being an adult in the first film makes sense, he saw the beheading from the woods and the following year goes after everyone
"A canon movie isnt canon because I dont want it to be and so regardless of what the directors say they are wrong about their own movies and I am right"
@@TheShadowOfHumanity because it's ridiculous for one single director of a BAD MOVIE to decide to add mythos from a completely different franchise and expect everyone to accept that shitty explanation
"Jason was the original slasher to get basement burinated, 30 years before Michael Myers" A New Blood came out in 1988. Freddy was set on fire in a basement 4 years prior.
My theory for why dad looks normal was how she remembered him. His soul was good and wanted to protect his daughter and not scare her thus his form adapted.
There's a simple answer for how Jason is an adult in Part 2, he drowned as a Kid, Pamela found the Necronamicon after a bit of searching, used it to bring him back to life, didn't know it worked, and went insane, she also probably gained some sort of supernatural powers(Explaining how she can throw bodies through windows with ease), Jason grew up thinking his mom abandoned him, and his Mom didn't know that he was alive again, so she didn't think to search for him.
"He stands over the female counselor and jams his rod down her throat". Are we seriously just going to ignore that he just said this entire sentence, okay.😂😂
46:31 It's like how Kane Hodder says Jason wouldn't kick a dog even though he killed and ate animals to survive when he lived in the woods for 20 years.
I'd say he would kill animals if needed to survive or needed to not be detected like killing a dog that is barking and gives up his position. But if we're talking in the sense of just kicking them in an abusive sense to project his anger, then I kind of agree that it isn't in his character considering he has become what he currently is due to the abuse of others. So I'd say, he would probably try to be better though he isn't any better because he kills innocent people. But he's out for revenge and has his mind set on certain targets, he didn't mess around with anybody that didn't stand in his way, so I also guess whatever stands in his way gets taken out too.
Well anyone would kill and eat animals to survive but I feel like if anyone had undying love at any point other than his mother, it'd be a pet. So I can see him not holding the same hatred he does towards humans
This is hilariously coincidental I just finished the Michael Meyers deep dive you uploaded yesterday and was planning on requesting this exact character to learn about next, low and behold here it is! Sweet, good job, and keep em coming!
51:34 He just somehow got dragged to that location. Maybe, since he's in the lake but so weakened, he wakes up and manages to walk a little underneath the lake before going into Torpor again. Maybe a fishing line snagged him. Crystal lake does somehow connect to the ocean, so maybe river currents effected the lake? I'm not sure if that's how it works. But, nah, its easy to justify him being in a different spot.
8:20 in my head cannon, the appearance of the Necronomicon is just an attempt to get fans clamoring for a F13/ED crossover. Why else would it have taken 13 years to put it in…
Absolutely loved the video, Jason is my favorite Slasher Killer. Though I do have to ask. Why did you leave out the 2009 Reboot? You made mention of it just once in the initial list of the movies. But you didn't go into detail on it like the others.

Fun fact: Give a read for 2007's Friday the 13th Pamela's Tale and 2007's Friday the 13th How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Should fill in the gaps for this complete timeline. Edit: Jason Voorhees still has a soft spot for children with facial disabilities and deformities. Cheers 🥂
The window breaking montage was hilarious 😂 He's also not fond of doors. Jason is my favorite character. I loved him as a kid, his hockey mask is just so iconic. And as mother later, his story just resonates with me. There's just something so simple and core to the human experience of loss, suffering, and love that binds what is otherwise a straight forward horror series. I think that's why it's so beloved.
Tina: collapses an entire house on top of Jason Can't rip Jason in half? I'm sure wood and concrete are much harder to break than human flesh and bone. Yeah I'm that guy lol yes I know they have to keep the possibility of sequels afloat. But i can't ignore everyone's stupidity in horror when they don't go for total dismemberment of the villain once they've been downed. Also, I'm quite surprised you missed the Beowulf reference with the ship in Jason X being called "Grendel"
9:25 Alice didn't chicken out but the bullets were locked away. She tried to bluff to Mrs. Vorhees but, due to her familiarity with the camp, it was in vain
Jason’s a tank, favorite killer! I became a huge fan of this Franchise and Evil dead separately growing up, so the Easter egg in Jason goes to hell was very cool to kinda make sense of it all! The theories about being a deadite or how he seemingly aged so quick is always at the back of my mind! Thanks for the video🎃
Jason didn’t drown, that’s why he’s an adult in part 2. That’s the official cannon. He didn’t die til 4 after he became zombie Jason. Also in part one Pamela says today is his birthday Friday the 13th, not the 15. Lots of fails in this one.
CZ was making a point that in the franchise the days are two years behind compared to our universe. So he's connecting every instance of Friday the 13th in the franchise as a Friday the 15th in ours
To be fair from film to film the writers couldn't decide whether Jason didn't drown and lived in the woods until he saw Alice kill Pamela or he drowned as a little boy and somehow came back as a grown man.

This was shown to be true in the Friday the 13th Reboot where at the start of the film Jason finds his mother dead in the 80’s and keeps her head until 2009 when the film takes place
he’s also a defensive outdoorsman in this movie he’s shown to only kill people who were disturbing his property
This is what I’ve always kind of though also helps it was backed up by the Reboot in 2009
Some fans think that he survived and was kidnapped by a deranged pedophile hermit and held captive for years hence the old shack from part 2 and that the torment he endured turned him into a monster.
@ Oh damn. That would be an interesting concept and it would give a new layer to Jason’s character. Hurt people hurt people.
window: exists
Jason: "and i took that personally"
in my opinion I think it makes more sense that Jason didn't actually drown he just washed up on the other side of the lake and lived in the woods, this could also explain why Jason looks like an adult it could be the muscle from living in the woods and building his own shack, this is most likely copium as i think that Jason being a deadite kinda takes away form the character in my opinion
on the Friday the 13th forum there is a page titled "Jason is not a deadite" which gives a lot of evidence as to why Jason isn't a deadite
Your opinion is the ACTUAL story of what happened. No matter what the director of the worst Jason movie says
I suspect that the demon Jason's mother made a deal with was her second helper, and per contract animated her son's body with the his soul to claim the final kill.
Deal concluded, it returned the soul and possessed a better human vessel
@asudevil316 that guy said he wanted to do evil dead not Friday so yeah his opinion kinda holds little water
A Texas chainsaw massacre breakdown next would be amazing!!! Love the slasher breakdowns

I don't think the remake was cannon 💀
@@Mr.Savini_Official Just something I thought I would add
Thank you 😊🧡
God... That necronomicon thing is a story worth a video all its own. Because that its a REALLY long amd complicated story... Its a fun story though.
No way he just did a To the Numbers bit 😂, be proud James!
I just saw that you and Jon solo know each other and my world of enjoying his stories and my world of you deep diving into every horror history merged
Who is Jon solo
@@tashekiaedwards8702 Jon shot first.. the fairytale messed up origin guy
With the whole Evil Dead thing, just because Kandarian magic plays a part in Jason's origin doesn't necessarily mean that he's a Deadite. I think he's a different kind of entity, but he's clearly not just a Deadite.
1:17:22 just don’t
SO TRUE LOLLL😂😂
You did get at least one thing wrong. Pamela Voorhees wasn't channeling Jason's spirit as he never did actually drown. The reasoning for this is that Part 2 takes place at most a year later, and by then, Jason is fully grown. She DID use it, thinking Jason was dead, but the spell of resurrection didn't work because he wasn't actually dead. The first official death of Jason was in Part 4. That's why he was able to come back in Part 6, Jason Lives, because the spell only works on those who have died, and Jason was dead by then.
part 2 takes place 2 months later
It wasn’t years later when part 2 happened, it was maybe a few months since the events of the first movie.
@@randomserbianguy5677 That's why I said "AT MOST".
@GuilynSlothbear the reason why we are pointing this is out is because Jason would still be a child (or a teenager at most) by the time the second movie takes place. Few months or a years isn't gonna magically turn Jason from an underaged kid to a hulking grown man
@@randomserbianguy5677 And I know that. So why are you pointing out the obvious? Did you get confused somewhere with what I said?
One of Horror’s Iconic Villains got a History Spotlight
Hopefully for the others like Leatherface, Victor Crowley, or Pinhead to have their History in the future
That Hellraiser timeline is gonna have to be many videos unless its strictly the movies, once you add the Hellraiser comics it adds a lot more
14:17 Jason never actually drowned, after escaping the water he fled into the woods waiting for Pamela to find him, living off bugs and plants for like 22 years. Part 2, 3, and 4 is a human Jason and part 6 and onwards he's a zombie
Blame the stupid deadite retcon in Jason goes to hell for the confusion
@Rottenishere, that movie is non canon, in my opinion, at least.
@@MegaHeafyea in ur opinion bc that holds so much weight💀
@MegaHeaf I mean jason goes to hell is kind of the only way to explain freddy vs jason
@enenra6417 Freddy vs Jason could exist in a universe where 6-9 never happened and Jason is in hell after being killed by Tommy or after part 8 where he could have been killed by the toxic waste.
50:16 his mask and face is chipped away because of the ending of Part VI. The fan blade of the boat that stopped his reign of terror that night.
Never considered the Deadite angle to explain Jason being alive in Part 2. Now a lot of the series suddenly makes sense
@@kennethsatria6607 Jason's soul is occupying his body. So he'll have his personality and memories intact.
Thank you, this is MY BOY!! I have been waiting for this video since I found you. Asked for it a couple times. And now it's finally here!!!
His soul was good? The dude was beating the shit out of his wife/Tina’s mom. I can see maybe wanting to redeem himself but he was not a good person.
Exactly 💯
I went to school as Jason in kindergarten, back in 95

It's not over months that Jason died, it's years. The OG murders happened in the 60's. It skips to real time after opening and says dates
1958*
Your wrong it was the 50's not 60's
@Ilovesharks444 1959 I remember now but I'm out by a year unlike what was said in the video
"He stands over the female counselor and jams his rod down her throat". Are we seriously just going to ignore that he just said this entire sentence, okay.😂😂
Loving this channel. So many MCR references. 51:44 caught me so off guard.
Yes! I'm so happy you've finally covered everyone's favorite camper killer!!
@@wehavethemeats4004 He kills Muffin and Gordon

He just somehow got dragged to that location.
Has anyone ever noticed that CZ and James are never in the same room at the same time together??? Conspiracy?!?!
8:20 in my head cannon, the appearance of the Necronomicon is just an attempt to get fans clamoring for a F13/ED crossover. Why else would it have taken 13 years to put it in…

Crazy
I love him, but he is not the most legendary Michael is.
Well seeing how confusing Jason history is, I can’t blame him. I barely understood his detailed explanation which is crazy
Jason really does hate windows.
To be fair, they can be kind of a pane.
I really appreciate you trying to add more meaning to the Jason timeline. Jason sure isn't easy to follow, but he sure is fun.

Can't rip Jason in half?

Nice Stu Macher reference too by the way! Very excited for the news on Scream 7 coming 2026
You rule at documenting "incontinuity"
