    For anyone interested, John Browne did an alternate mix with some post production EQ, mixing and mastering that reflects more of how he would treat the guitars recorded on this session. Here's the link to the Mesa SoundCloud page with that track posted there: soundcloud.com/mesaboogie-1/garden-of-sankhara-mesa-jp2c-mix
    Post Production settings and signal chains:
    Rhythm Guitars - SM57 supported by the Mojave - Post settings are EQ/Filters and minimal LA3A compression
    Lead Guitar - Cab Clone Supported by the Mojave - Post Settings are EQ/Filters and Minimal API 2500 compression
    Clean Guitar - Cab Clone Supported by the Mojave - Post settings are EQ/Filters and API 2500 Compression with a dash of VerbMastering: Stereo Enhancer > API 2500 Compressor > M PULTEC EQ >
    M EQ > S EQ > Neve Compressor > Limiter
    Big thanks to John Browne!

      Hi Guys - This recording is everything from the original song EXCEPT the guitars for John's parts - which we're recorded for this performance at this location, with the amp you see. Then, it was all mixed specifically for this performance as a demo. Different from the original recording/mix except using the guitar sounds from thie location you see in the video. The Mesa Boogie Mark V, recreates each circuit accurately. The mark 1 can be set to sound exactly like the vintage mark 1's, however it can do so much more. I believe the same with mark 2 and 4 settings. Of course, because it is simply combined into one, there will always be those people who will believe it "cant be the same" as the original amp. But I assure you in a blind test, you could not tell a difference. As for thin sounds, In no way is my mesa boogie mark series amp thin. It is one of the most vocal thick toned sustaining singing amplifier I have ever played. I am an electrical engineer and being a young player, I am amazed at what mesa boogie has done with these circuits. Pure Genius. It would be a dream of mine to be able to work with a team to design and build these amplifiers. Always has been. Great work guys!

      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks for the kind words, +Eric Oglesby ! The irony of a snapshot of a sound which is what can be presented in a video like this is that comparing amps or sounds isn't always best done by settings but by actually listening. That's what you appear to have done is to set the amp where it sounds good to you and rock out from there. The circuits are in there - one just needs to know how to get the tone you want/need. You appear to have figured that out. :D Thanks again and here's to more tone!
      PS - send in a resume to the one and only Mesa address. 1317 Ross St. Petaluma, CA 94954 :D

    I have a question in relation to the depth options that come with the standard MarkV 90w but which aren't available on the JP2C. How does the JP2C make up for that in the low resonance tonality if it doesn't have the same depth control knobs that are on the standard Mark V? (excluding the EQ sliders)

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Max - Good question. Not sure which depth options you are referring to....? There are lots of similarities between the controls and also the circuits of the Mark V and the JP2C, however, the JP2C is a much STIFFER power section with faster and more immediate response whereas the Mark V is plenty solid output, but a pinch more forgiving, compressed and smooth. The low end from the preamp controls (and the EQ) is much more similar as much of the circuits in the preamp remains the same between the two. It's the powerr section that makes up the biggest difference, and you feel this and hear this when you play the two and compare them side by side. Not everyone is looking for the power, punch and immediacy that the JP2C puts, but those that are find the feel and power addictive. Hope this helps! :)

    • @mazklassa9338
      @mazklassa9338 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok thanks for the guidance. I mean the depth controls that are situated next to right handside of the EQ sliders on the standard 90w Mark V. Are these like the resonance function on a Peavey 6505?

      +Seamus McFlanery Why? It should sound the same at the same settings/wattage.

    • @kronosecw
      @kronosecw 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Endezeichen Grimm should sound slightly different, the mark 5 2c+ is not the same 2c+ as this one.

    • @endezeichengrimm
      @endezeichengrimm 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      How so? Isn't it the same circuit?

    • @TimurIskhodzhanov
      @TimurIskhodzhanov 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Seamus McFlanery From what I can tell, the JP2C channels 2&3 should sound very similar to the IIC+ mode on the Mark V channel 3. It looks like the main idea behind JP2C was to take Mark V, replace V's channel 2 with another channel 3, fine-tune these channels to resemble IIC+ a bit more, add CabClone and MIDI to simplify live setup and get rid of stuff JP doesn't need, such as alternative voicing/gain options on all the channels.

    • @Dejoblue
      @Dejoblue 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Endezeichen Grimm I don;t think this half power switch is the same. IIRC the original was a pentode/triode switch whereas this may be simply disabling 2 of the 4 tubes.

    been thinking about buying one of these or maybe a Dual rectifier. it will be my very first tube amp and I'm curious as to whether or not it will sound good at bedroom/low volumes. I'm looking for tones in the vein of everything from black label society to killswitch engage to cannibal corpse.
    I have scoured the internet for information on this matter and have gotten very mixed feed back. any input would help, thanks.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI +terry lafauci - Thanks for your interest! The Rectifier will easily the types of tones of the bands you've just mentioned. Most people buy Mark series amps because they want a tighter and more immediate response, especially in heavy/high gain sounds. The Rectifier will dial up fast and be pretty quickly gratifying, whereas Mark series amps take a little time to get to know the sweet spots in the amp and for your playing. Based on the bands you mentioned, I'd probably recommend the Rectifier first, but if you are looking for tighter tones and are willing to spend some time with the amp to get to know its in's & out's, you won't be disappointed with a JP2C either. Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any further questions and let us know what you decide! :D

    So you basically got three different signals per hard pan then? Two mics and the cab clone? Any reason for using the cab clone also?

    • @flagmuffin1221
      @flagmuffin1221 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kronosecw Another Mesa product? :P Or just wanting to have a different sort of sound, maybe try and get a cab sound that they wanted but didn't have the cab for?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi +kronosecw - We almost ALWAYS record the CabClone signal, regardless of other mics in use . It's just one more cable and input to set up, and yes... most of our amps have them... so we hook it up! :D We ALSO almost ALWAYS find great ways to add the CabClone signal to the recorded sounds or mix, whether it's blended in and supporting our preferred mic, or an even blend, or even the primary component and mics are support blend. It provides a very tight, forward and detailed capture (unlike the potential bounce and bloom of a dynamic mic), and sometimes that response is a great thing to add/compliment in some amount, OR - it's what the music cal;ls for. Experimentation is key but this is just one way that the CabClone can be very useful, not to mention live sound, silent direct (when you can't use a mic), headphone amp, load box and direct capture via Slave for IR and software Cab Sim. The list goes on... Thanks for watching and hope this helps! :D

      +MESA/Boogie 😎 I see. Might be hard to tell what the amp actually sounds like with 3 different tones being blended, if that was the intention... Sounds good though. I enjoy the dry breakdown at the end. Either way shows good potential for that genre. I enjoy these videos, thanks.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks, +kronosecw - Your point about multiple mics is understood, but it could also be argued that there are a multitude of greater variables beyond mic choice and blending that do or don't do a good job of showcasing what something sounds like. :) Post Production, TH-cam compression, peoples listening devices/environments just to name a few. First and foremost though, MESA tries to employ consistent techniques and tools that musicians, engineers and studios use to record great guitar sounds... and to make sure we capture great tone without having to add much (or preferably any) post production techniques. Our goal is to make the amp sound like the amp - anything else serves no one! At the end of the day we'd most strongly argue that a tube amplifier ESPECIALLY, is best physically experienced to be understood, rather than 'hearing' it on TH-cam but we do our very best to deliver honest representations of our products in our demos and playthroughs. Glad you're enjoying the vids - thanks for watching!

    For me, I'll miss the Mark IV and Extreme modes of the Mark V. AND, I couldn't sacrifice the Loop FX. I have a variety of effects that are "must have" in my setup....so this new JP-2 amp doesn't do it for me. Also the overdrive sounds a bit too much on the fuzzy end, which isn't my type of sound at all. I'll save up for the Mark V.

    • @justinpowell1893
      @justinpowell1893 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      JP2C does have a fx loop. also midi. so its better suited to effects then a V.

    • @heut4384
      @heut4384 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it does...I meant to say that the Mark V has assignable FX Loops to any of the 3 channels rather than being a global fx loop like the current JP2C and most other amps in the market. I typically like some nice chorus, acoustic guitar sound, and delay on my clean but none at all on my gain channels. But the JP2C does sound super sweet for sure.

    I'm really interested in this amp. Seems like a good deal for US$ 2,500 in the USA. But here in Europe we have to pay around € 3,900, which is around US$ 4,300. Come on, Mesa! I'm a loyal customer, but this price jack is insane.

    I would love to hear a clean version, without the post production, like the attached video John made for the Mark V. No effects, no getting it cleaned up in the studio, etc. I know there was very minimal touch-up on the attached video because that was the selling point when Mesa posted the article way back then.... still, monster sound. The Mark V doesn't offer the flexibility (I have both the Mark V and the Mark V:25) that this 3 channel amp does, because of the dual channel 2C+ on this baby, plus, channel 3 has even more drive AND there is full midi capability... still, keeping my Mark V's... both of them and getting this.

    • @manulace9773
      @manulace9773 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +kronosecw It must sound very similar from Mark V to JP II C+. But yeah I know about the kind of mid boost on the JP model and 100 watts instead of 90 for the mark V. These things would probably make a difference.

    • @kronosecw
      @kronosecw 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ManU LaC For sure, def a legit reissue of the 2C+... The dual eq is huge. Saves you a step of tossing another eq in for leads. On the topic of reissues, if they did a modern version of the "studio pre" that would be fab. Those lead tones...

    • @themaggot8
      @themaggot8 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ManU LaC The Mk V doesn't sound even close to the real IIC+, or even the IV. The IV kills the V in almost every way (cleans are better in the V). This comes from someone who plays through Mk IIC+, Mk IV, Mk V and Triaxis.

    • @kronosecw
      @kronosecw 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +Prenner111 - If you look closely at the amp, there is a rotary mid control for each channel as well as the Graphic EQs that allow you to scoop to your heart's content... :D The mids in this audio are reflective of the tone we captured during the recording of this video. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. :)

    Sometimes i wonder how much better even good players would be if they'd get rid of the fps - flying pinkie syndrome which probably kills at least 30% of the potential. Go ahead downvote this to extinction but once you're aware of it, you see it all the time. And you'll see there's something to it. The top players don't have it. Just saying it's waste of potential.

    • @JohnBrownemonuments
      @JohnBrownemonuments 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +xstingrayx What's flying pinky syndrome? I always thought my pinky on my left hand was pretty good. I observed alot of guitarists that tuck it under the fretboard on their left hand and always tried to avoid doing that... and on my right hand I usually tuck it under the high string as an anchor point (so when i'm trying to hit the floor with my face I know where I am)

  • @kckennedy55
    @kckennedy55 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am not a fan of this music. But I thought the song and arrangement were pretty cool. I have noticed that when the more "structured" vocals are on a song, some are quick to call it "gay". Don't quite understand that, but it is what it is. As I said, I don't listen to much of this, but I have heard a LOT worse!
