There's that EVIL guitar word again...was....lol. I know how it is though man, guitar is a lifelong journey and tastes change...BUT a Music Man & a Strat are total keepers. As Dave Mustaine once said: "Hindsight is always 20/20" Hope the EBMM wasn't a BFR
I attended this, and it was a really cool thing for Mesa, Petrucci, Doug West, and Guitar Sanctuary to do. Thanks to all involved for a very informative evening!
Thanks for the kind words, SD. Glad you got a chance to check it out and thanks for the kind words regarding the JP2C! Hope it is delivering tone for days! :)
I bought a Majesty Monarchy and couldn't be happier. As other's have said, it plays effortlessly. The clean tones resonate throughout the guitar like an acoustic, as the neck is actually part of the main body up through the bridge, not a bolt on like other electrics. I also just bought a Fishman Triple Play and the sounds really sustain like crazy.
Missed out on the TS but did see them in Tulsa couple days prior. Meet and greet with the band, had both the JP ltd head and matching 2x12 Boogie dust covers signed. I have the matching rig you see on the stage, which was purchased there at the Guitar Sanctuary. I believe there were just two cabs built, could be wrong though.
Not a boogie owner yet, but believe me when I say they've been my dream amps ever since I was 12 years old and I found out a lot of my guitar heroes were using them. I shall own one one day!
Hey Toby K. - We hope that day comes soon and thank you so much for the kind words! Let us know if you have any questions or if we can help in any way. Cheers!
It's so true when they mention thinking about tone visually! For me, John's lead playing sounds like it's echoing through the universe or some deep shit like that.. ;)
Hes right. This is the best thing about Boogies.. they don't distort chords like a Marshall does. Marshalls are awesome for single notes, but under lots of distortion the chords turn muddy. Not on a Boogie, you can hear every string/note under lots of gain still.
Great video @MESA/Boogie, thanks! I was wondering, did John switch to oversized slanted cabs, because in demo videos ( and the mark v demo as well ) he seems to be using these!
Hi George - Pretty sure that the cabs in this video are Traditional 4x12 (the smaller of the two) but they may be Standards. That said, John always prefers the Traditional 4x12s for being a bit tighter and more balanced while still offering excellent punch, bass and balance. BTW - in the JP2C demo, that is confirmed to be a Traditional 4x12 Straight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Random question. Some amps have the Mesa logo on the grill (Rectifier) where as some amps have the Boogie logo on the grill (Mark series). Is there an actual purpose for that such as different people in the design process or is there no rhyme or reason? Great video!!
Good question! Originally, the company was called Mesa Engineering and the first amp was called a Boogie. Then, both the company and amps began to be referred to as Mesa/Boogie and it just kind of stuck. In the 90s, with heavier music finding favor and the Rectifier and other Mesa's becoming popular, the Mesa Engineering logo seemed a better fit for that heavier era and the amps being designed for those styles. Ultimately, even though Mark series amps are well capable of heavy sounds, amps from the Mark series lineage tend to get the Boogie badge and reflect that period of Mesa history since it spans the entire companies history. No real rhyme or reason - kind of an evolution but still subject (open) to change. Thanks for watching! :) This video also tells some of the story as well: th-cam.com/video/LSp4yO_sdQ8/w-d-xo.html
Hey Andy - Thanks for the kind words. The JP-2C is available in BOTH versions - limited and standard dress (black vinyl/black grille), as well as custom options for dress. The Limited was featured visually in this video lots of times but note that the left amp of the stereo setup in this rig was one of the Standard JP-2Cs in black vinyl/grille. Thanks for watching! :)
Hey, thanks so much for clarification! I don't care about the grill and dress, I want the tone and want it really really baaaaad! I've been hunting for the good old Mark IIc+ in good condition on eBay, but at the moment they are still way too expensive for my budget... Hope this one is still available by the time I come up with the funds! And did I mention I LOVE the tone!
Hi Amin - The fuill event is 3 hours long. So - the full event will not be posted but more sections of it are coming soon. Thanks for your interest! :)
Question: Why do all the pros use straight cabs and everyone else uses slanted? Have a peek on Reverb or your local Craigslist and the slant cabs are 10 times more available. Same with Recto Std 4x12 os vs traditional 4x12 Mesa...finding JP's favorite cab, 4x12 straight traditional is very difficult in the used market. I NEED one of those Boogie stools too.
Great question/observation, Rick. Lots of people seem to be enamored of the sort of monitoring effect offered by the top two speakers sloping upward in a slant cab, thus firing the sound more toward ear level. The interesting thing is, when you compare the two (slant & straight) the Straight cabs have a cohesive punch effect that reflects all four speakers being on the same forward throw. Phasing is less of an issue and the straight cabs just seem 'together', cohesive and very forward. Not many people are able to do an A/B between the two so it seems that lots of times, a purchase ends up being a matter of what is in stock and the slant cabs have been more popular overall. Slants do sound great and the differences between the two are not huge, but when people have a chance to compare, they often prefer the clarity and punch of the straight compared to the monitor effect of the slant. Hope this helps and thanks for asking a great question! :D
Hey @MESA/Boogie I love this amp and hope to have it one day but one question is that is it possible to combine a El-34 and 6L6 power amp tubes together
Get a Mark III. The combination of the 34’s and 6L6’s is brilliant. Having recently gotten the JP-2C, I have been able to compare the different parts of the lineage. Wow. The 34’s bring out this brilliant sparkle but the power of all 4 6L6’s in the C+ circuit is incredible.
It pretends to do that. If you do that through a really IIC+ it has been noted that there are more kids born 9 months later. If you do that through an FX thingy, the sales of tissue increases. Take that as you will...
I m a proud owner of a mark iii red stripe and i would be able to ask john why it is never been in his setup.. Which are the differences between the ii and the iv and the v he doesnt like in the iii.
I love the III and especially the John Skyes huge Whitesnake tones on 1984. Whodathunk that came from a little 1x12 combo? But many see the III as a bit of a stop gap between a good IIC+ and a IV, so it doesn't, IMHO, get the recognition it deserves. I've only had the chance to play a couple of IIC+ and they had a bit more attack to the sound and the IV's more width - the III was more gainy but didn't have the chunk of the IIC+ or the wide sound of the IV. Maybe the 'inbetween' sound didn't capture the attention - but you'd think that the intro to Still of the Night by Whitesnake would get your attention before you concentrated on Tawny Kitaen. As with any piece of musical equipment - and Mesa is one of the few electronic manufacturers that I would class their amps as musical equipment rather than "just an amp" - if you love it, then that's all that matters. Keep it forever and play it as often as you can.
John Petrucci has used the mark 3’s too, I have seen some of the videos where he has few mark 3’s as well in his studio. He even gives some explanation on those.
snasdante Probably a TC electronic flashback delay. He has a few toneprints for those. Including one with two repeats which is called something like "mountain top".
So good job Mesa and JP, i have the Engl, because i wanted the Mesa sound, it is so good, but not that same nice bally sound like Mark series, boogies are Just boogies, nothing is better.
kinda bizarre there's at least four people that don't know the main riff of one of their most popular songs...its not like he was playing raise the knife lol
see now I bought a Mark Five thinking it would cover everything, but the clean sound has been crap since I got it. I think maybe Im doing something wrong and no matter what it's not clean
Check the pickups you use, active pickups for example are quite high in output and will cause the notes to break even on clean channel. Try cutting the mids as well
You know, people say that, but unless you are an impulse buyer, one that buys and sells music instruments constantly, these amps become part of your sound, and part of your "must have" instruments when playing. I have bought 3 Mesa's over the years. Have them all. Bought my first in like '79 or '80. The MKIIa. That amp GROWLS. So many people have tried to separate it from me, but they give up saying "you marry your stuff". I just can't imagine not owning it. I paid for it in advance, $900 and waited a full 9 months to get it. It was flown to the closest airport to me. You have people that pay big money for an amp, then they pay for tons of pedals, some at over $200 a pop, and still are searching for "that sound". I know in this video, Petrucci has a massive delay on, but otherwise, all that sound is the amp. Myself, for pedals, I only have a tuner into a chorus into a delay, and that's it. On whatever set I have that needs it, I'll insert my wah pedal, but everything I get for sound is the Mesa. I saw Dream Theater last April, and it was fun seeing JP had two heads and two cabs, and watching the channel lights change colors and the EQ (there are 2 in this amp) change numerous times in the song. This is my next Boogie, maybe my last...
Screwdj_Mcduck What?? Vintage is great used gear BUT their new Triple Crown, TransAtlantic, and Mk V series are killer amps. I love my Mk IV but I would definitely buy one of these if could.
Thanks for the incredible, kind words, +Loral Johnson. It's likely true of lots of amps out there that people get connected to... but it's certainly the case with Mark series amps - they are a unique voice all their own. Some like them - some don't... but those who do find them often speak of them becoming a part of their musical voice when they play. And this is a huge compliment to us and something we never take lightly during the process of trying to find amplifier gold and inspiration. Thanks for the many years of support and taking the time to share your thoughts and experience. Very much appreciated! Rock on! :)
Thanks for the kind words, +Nathan Holmes! We're very proud of the latest amps as well as the amps that came before them, which are the foundations of the company making it what it is today. I think it's fair and safe to say that some of what we're making today offers as much TONE and versatility as anything we've made in the past but tone lies in the ears of the beholder. :D The JP-2C is a LEGIT re-issue of the Mark IIC+ with features to John's tastes/needs. Lots more cool products and great ideas to come. Thanks for the support!
Different sounds Friedman has more of a hot Rodded Marshall British Tone while Mesa has more of an American sound lot of bottom end and glassy high end
Alex Vinn probably not. But you can work, earn some money, pay your taxes, pay for the things in life you actually need and then buy something you want (like this amp) with whatever you're able to save.
Killer tone and a legend on the strings. Petrucci always makes me miss my Music Man guitar.
NEVER sell a EBMM or a Boogie....EVER
I know..much worse guitar player at that point. Thought i needed a strat instead so i traded. I blew it!!! Although, the strat was lovely as well. :)

This amp was like a whole new reason to play and learn again. Can't stop playing it.
Nice, Rob - we really appreciate that! Inspiration from instruments and amplifiers is such a great thing. Thank you! :)
He's always so fun and intriguing to watch
Love this Mesa Boogies are by far the best amps i've played out on tours !
Thank you, Alex! :)
MESA/Boogie Are Mesa going to be at Musik Messe in Frankfurt ?
Those tones! It's true what John Petrucci said "Only Boogies do that"
Oh, and loving my JP2C Limited! Hands down the best amp I've ever owned!
F'cking genius!! Hope to own one of this babies some day... Boogie definetly rocks!!
Wait.... I need more, I need to see the whole tone summit!!!!
Wow all the sounds are so good! Such a versatile amp
That video is soooooo well done! Good job
Many thanks, Alex. :)
Love my JP2C, John is an amazing player.
that was a fast 8 mins,,,more please!!i love all my mesa amps, and will add a jp-2c hopefully very soon...keep up the good work guys !!
Mesa has a great clean channel on almost all of their amps, as John shows it is crystal clear. Highly under rated. Solid tone, ample head room.
Many thanks, Eventual. This amp has clean and headroom in spades, too. :)
It's downright stupefying playing it live. Mine came today and it's surreal.
JP the Master....Love it!!
I bought a Majesty Monarchy and couldn't be happier. As other's have said, it plays effortlessly. The clean tones resonate throughout the guitar like an acoustic, as the neck is actually part of the main body up through the bridge, not a bolt on like other electrics. Man I wish I could have seen this live. I love my Mesa Boogie Dual rectifier rack unit
Ahh man! I'm dreaming every night of owning a Mesa/Boogie! They have that heavy sound I'm looking for!
You guys make amazing amps 👍👍👍
sounds amazing!
jp is just an awesome human...so much a regular guy...with the obvious exception of his genius.
John gives you so many exciting ways to react to his guitar
Who ever mic'd these amps did a great job!
Agreed! Clint at the Guitar Sanctuary. A tip of the hat to him... :)
Missed out on the TS but did see them in Tulsa couple days prior. Meet and greet with the band, had both the JP ltd head and matching 2x12 Boogie dust covers signed. I shall own one one day!
Hey Toby K. - We hope that day comes soon and thank you so much for the kind words! Let us know if you have any questions or if we can help in any way. Cheers!
hey Mesa/Boogie. You could help me by making them a little cheaper.lol
It's so true when they mention thinking about tone visually! For me, John's lead playing sounds like it's echoing through the universe or some deep shit like that.. ;)
Respect to both "Mesa Boogie" and John....
Thanks, ios4ever!

Where can I buy a pair of Petrucci's hands?
We've got them in stock: www.theguitarsanctuary.com/Mesa-Boogie-John-Petrucci-Signature-JP-2C-Head-p/10899.htm
Best reply ever! :D
Petrucci has the BEST metal tone IMO...
My only regret after watching this, is the fact that I couldn't be right there in that room to hear the amp in all its glory. :(
5:42
Doug: Should I do it? I'm gonna do it
5:43
Doug: =)
Dough is always a bit pushy!!
im in love of my Single rectifier 50W, Thanks to the gifted Mesa Staff!!!

Interesting. Thanks for the reply!
Hope to See Doug Again @ the Bay Area "Amp Show" around May 2017
All about having fun .
Mesa makes excellent therapeutic tools!
where is the full video this I is great
I could hear John talk about guitars all day...John if you are out there somewhere...adopt me!
You guys should bring in John Sykes. His tone on Whitesnake '87 and the first Blue Murder record was AMAZING! All Boogie.
Droooooolll!!! Too bad it's only a limited version... Probably will be sold out when I save enough cash... Really really LOVE this amp!!!
Hey Andy - Thanks for the kind words. The JP-2C is available in BOTH versions - limited and standard dress (black vinyl/black grille), as well as custom options for dress. Hi Amin - The fuill event is 3 hours long. So - the full event will not be posted but more sections of it are coming soon. Thanks for your interest! :)
Me: *Playing a guitar with a JP 2C+ in my room*
Also me: *Wakes up realizing that I have no money to purchase it*
Joshua Frederick buy a used one
What song is his clean stuff at 1:05?
No song in particular, but snippets of 3-4 DT songs in between chords
Jesus. That is so much freakin' gain.

i have one of the discontinued oversized straight slant 4x12 cabs and would never part with it....the tone is absolutely incredible..
Great !!!!
JPs beard seems to be made from the same material as Steven Seagal's hair :)
Piotr Jakacki it is.
I have see other amps (Lone Star,Recrifier)
Does he play it too ? 🤘🎸
Kevin Roy he has used rectifiers before for certain songs in the studio
Not in this event, Kevin. He focuses on the JP2C. Thanks for watching! :)
Hey @MESA/Boogie I love this amp and hope to have it one day but one question is that is it possible to combine a El-34 and 6L6 power amp tubes together
Hi Metallican - it is NOT possible to combine tubes with this amp, sorry to say. Thanks for your interest!
MESA/Boogie thank you so much for the response just one question you can switch 6l6s with el34 right
Hi @@tombscoot9095 - The JP-2C works ONLY with 6L6s - it is not switchable bias capable like other Mesa's. :)
MESA/Boogie ok thank you for the information
Get a Mark III. The combination of the 34’s and 6L6’s is brilliant. Having recently gotten the JP-2C, I have been able to compare the different parts of the lineage. Wow. The 34’s bring out this brilliant sparkle but the power of all 4 6L6’s in the C+ circuit is incredible.
What would Hendrix say? I think he would've loved Boogie amps.
3:20 Twist ending. My BIAS FX does that too.
I'm using mark iic+ amp matched patch though..

He uses mark iii's.
2 stereo amp heads, 2 cabs, 6 mics total.. no wonder it's such a thicc sound
A lot of it is the mics. Anytime you use a condenser paired with ribbon mics you can make most amps sound thick.
Hey @MESA/Boogie will there ever be more videos of the Tone Summit released?
Hi Alexis - YES! I think so... and very soon, we hope. Thanks for asking and thanks for your interest! :)
These tone sessions have influenced what I purchase ..additionally I love hearing about what artists are feeling about the various products...
Thanks for the comment, 1Batt - really appreciated and we'll keep the Tone Sessions coming. The next couple of weeks will feature some great stuff! :)
As soon as I end paying my Dual Rectifier I'm gonna buy one of these, Christ.
i came for 5:43
I think I saw this guy's face before... Oh yeah! The shroud of Turin!
Turns out he's actually the second coming...
Whats the name of the second dream theatre song he plays??
541PURSUIT *Theater. Metropolis part 1, the 5th song from images and words
Anyone knows what delay stomp he's using here? Sounds like a double delay
snasdante Probably a TC electronic flashback delay. He has a few toneprints for those. Including one with two repeats which is called something like "mountain top".
Frank Homma is correct! TC Flashback with MountainTop TonePrint. :)
Thank you both!
Mountain top, that's appropriate =D
Definitely an Allosaurus at 7:58
Would have been cool listening to the amp With more mids dialled in, and less bass frequencies.
What's the song at 2:40?
Metropolis P.t. I
Eric Vera thank you!
You're welcome. (:
it always looks like JP's fretboards are soaked
He sprays his fretboards with that "Finger-ease", string lubricant stuff whenever he plays.
How do you know that?@@ikilledsifodyas
Colin Woodside his tech says it in an old vid
Where..Where is Petrucci???
2:42 song?
Dream Theater - "Metropolis Pt. 1"
"Please
No pictures or videos."
*Filmed the whole show themselves.*
Akshit Jha Wich is exactly why.
which song is the starting music?Or rather the riff he played..Can someone help me out with it please (00.08 to 00.18)
The riff is the start of the song “The Dark Eternal Night” by Dream Theater. It’s such a cool riff!
yeah its damn awsome
...Thanks mate
2:25 I forgot the name of the song
D S pull me under
Ta com um terço no pescoço, legal
I don't understand. The sign clearly says "NO PICTURES OR VIDEO", yet I'm watching it. I feel like someone somewhere broke a rule.
Ha! Good observation, Darthsteve. Stand by for other features from this where rules might have been broken. :) Thanks for watching.
Ok, so the tagline is, Sounds as brutal as a T-rex 😂😂
:o what a gunky fretboard
B1oodraven It's the Finger Ease he uses, makes it look almost wet!
I believe you have a bad tube, or internal problem. My mark v is super clean on the first channel
Check the pickups you use, active pickups for example are quite high in output and will cause the notes to break even on clean channel. Try cutting the mids as well
Such a monster player, and I love his rhythm sounds, but that clean tone...that was already anachronistic by the 90's.
Should this amp be considered a sex toy? Because of the eargasms.
Mesas are good but too expensive
If i had the money and roadies to boot, I would throw my money at them haha!
