I love the relationship between father and daughter❤. It's easy to forget Ellen is so young when listening to her perform. Videos like this remind us she's just arriving in adolescence.

I'm John Sillasen, a 67 11/12 year old bass player. Started at 14, having switched from guitar which I began at age 8. Hope you keep it up. If you do take even a decade off from playing the bass, just remember those "boring" slow exercises. Play them again and again so you don't hurt your hand. Then you'll soon remember why you played the bass in the first place!
Mathew Braden followed you on Twitter also. Don't worry about that guy's question / accusation about you doing whatever he thinks you're doing over Ellen. You're an awesome Dad! You're doing for your daughter what most dads would die to be able to do for there's. Keep inspiring that young Lady of yours, it's a good thing.
I can't tell for sure who's eye's sparkle more, yours when you look at Ellen or Ellen's when she looks at you. That's something you can't make up or fake. The Love between a Dad and his daughter and a Daughter and her dad is something not everyone has. You too are a couple of the richest people in the world with a wealth no one can ever take away.
I keep coming back because the music is good but what I enjoy the most is watching you two interact.

I wasn't present for this video, and that's ok. We just came across your content, and I wanted to let you know how much my toddler ADORES your videos. (She is almost 2.) She will dance, sing, bring out her little toy guitar, and just simply have the most fun. ❤
Ellen & Horvak! - Great advice on learning to play. As a kid, I quit piano lessons TWICE because bad teachers taught boring mechanical "songs" that could inspire no-one. A new friend in eighth grade sat down at our dusty piano and played a hit song, which inspired me to borrow the sheet music and I SLOWLY taught myself to play. I bought sheet music to popular songs for about 9 months till one day, I discovered I could play by ear! I've since written a LOT of songs and was fortunate to score a movie (with live orchestra). Kids will be motivated to learn popular songs. If the kid likes classical music, that's another story. If it's work, very few will stay interested.😊
Love these Q&A’s. When you, like me, followed Ellen from the beginning, you can see her progress soooo good. As a bass player as well as a upgrowing person. And Hovak you must be the best father any young musical sibling could wish for. Your knowledge and teaching ability is fascinating. I’m sure it enhances the relationship with Ellen. I always get a noise from my string when I change frets (releasing a string and fretting the next, I always have that scrape-on-the-string noise when I fret change...) drives me nuts. I guess more practice...hahahaha... still playing thanks to Ellen. 62 y/o here... wish I would have began bass a long time ago.

I'm pretty late to this party. First I am big fan of Hovac and Ellen. Second. My question is for Ellen. I have an odd question, is their a song or musician that you like and maybe respect but you say to yourself "yeah, I like and respect that but I wouldn't want to play that." Oh, One last question/request. I would love to see Ellen and Hovac do a cover together. It might be a pretty big challenge for the both of you. I would love see you guys take a crack at "Perpetual Change" by Yes. The title pretty much says it all. It has some crazy changes and transitions, at the same time it is still highly singable and memorable. It has great hooks. Once again thank you if you read this comment. Keep up the great work. Aloha Ellen, you are such a talent, when it comes to play the bass, watching most of your posting, I just wonder, if you are ever became aware of a bassist named Leland Sklar, he is one of my most outstanding bass players, having played on over +2K records, currently being with Lyle Lovett on tour, but also an icon played with James Taylor, being on tour with Phil Collins and Toto etc. the list is endless…..He is such an iconic and loving person, I just hope, you have the opportunity to listen to his style of playing the bass and meet him !! TO ELLEN AND DAD, Hope you see this. Remembered a song by Jefferson Starship, album Spitfire (1976), song: Hot Water Cold Water. Starts and leads all song with bass line. Great song! Great album start to finish. Last album with Paul Kantner, Grace Slick at her best, 17 year old phenom guitarist Craig Chaquico, (great story, research dad); before Marty vocals took Starship/Airplane to crap 80's pop. Maybe 10 years ago Starship had a really great female singer, who did a great job singing Grace Slick sound, and great on her own. Hope you can find good analog download of Spitfire, or vinyl LP. I think you Ellen, might really like this. Keep on rocking!
