Tying the Big Red dry fly . A must have dry fly for all UK still waters . Hook B170 size 12 Thread Red UTC70 Post/breathers White antron or para post Rib Pearl Mylar Body Red squirrel Hackle natural brown cock
Nice fly Tim do you gink the body and hackle of the fly at all when you fish them also.do you grease your dropper line and leader never fished drys before so a novice at this type of fishing.cheers tim.
Hi Rob , thanks for watching . Yes I ALWAYS degrease the leader , the leader being seen is one of the biggest reasons for refusals on dries . And yes I dab a tiny amount of Gink onto the back / top of the fly as I want it to sit right in the surface film . Always remember not to apply your floatant directly to the fly , rather put a tiny amount on the back on your hand and then dab the fly .. Golden rule with floatant ... LESS is more after the initial application I will only then re apply after I have caught a fish ..
This , every day of the week ! ... I'm not a fan of the Midas at all , its too big and bulky , works fine on stocky waters such as Draycote or Eyebrook because they take them as a pellet but you get way to many refusals on the midas pattern , its messy , I think its popular because of its size and the angler has confidence when he can see his dry sitting high on the water .. The big red is a great imitation of the solitary buzzer you find on most lakes , especially the midlands reservoirs from Late July till October . So its this or a hopper for me anytime ! Thanks for watching .
Just using a small drop of GINK or similar floatant first applied to your hand then lightly dab the back of the fly in it . Less is more with floatants remember !
Tim thanks for getting back to me with some great tips,I understand it a lot better now thanks buddy

Class Tim I fish in the North East what summer colours would you recommend for drys please?
Trevor Luft this red will work all over . It’s also good in claret or brown ... depends on your dominant summer buzzer hatch on your lake .
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 thanks Tim I know the place I fish as brown buzzers thanks again
How do you keep it floating please
