Thanks for respectfully yet thoroughly sharing your experience at the Texas Depository and environs. Wow is all I can say about the BBQ visit! It always enhances the experience of visiting a new city to eat what locals eat!
Us Cruise Folks were SO HAPPY To See You and Doug at Cake Daddy’s Bakery getting some Cake Bowls 🍰 and Chicken Salad! 🐓 Manny & Kellee were SO EXCITED to have You! Thank You SO MUCH For stopping by! Like Manny said, you made his YEAR!!! 👍😍👍😍👍😍
Hey Tony, I got about a month behind on your channel ( hospitalized) and wouldn’t you know it when I’m binging to catch up I see your visiting my city Big D. My Dad was a 32 yr veteran Dallas P.D. Officer and was in the same officer training (academy) as J.D. Tippett who was shot and killed by Oswald . It’s easy to take the history of the city you live or work in for granted. I retired from Dallas P.D. After 29 years and I drove past the depository a million times and never checked the museum out. I imagine there are a lot of folks just like me who are planning cruises to historic locations all over the globe and who are driving by their own local history on the way to the airport. I enjoy your channel and appreciate all the effort you put into it.
i can see we all remember where we were when we got that news. Never forget it. Glued to the news for days/weeks. Just unbelievable. And then Bobby went down...same thing again. Thanks for sharing this. Have never been there.
Tony, I remember the day that the announcement came over the school speaker, it was as if time stopped for a moment and everyone just stood quietly. I cried and watched the funeral, etc.for days after. Thank you for taking us with you.
I was 15 years old sitting in my high school cafeteria in study hall after lunch when the announcement was made. Being a Catholic High School, we were quickly assembled in the gymnasium and several of the history teachers spoke before ending with solemn prayers and hugs ending for the day and being dismissed at regular time. Time stopped for several days, and to this day the sound of the horse hoofs with shoes that were pulling the wagon holding President Kenny's body when hitting the pavement is so fresh in my mind. Every time I hear that sound since then that memory is invoked!!
I had the chicken pox and was bed ridden, the first station that came out with the news was CBS in New York, I was watching that station when the news came out! There are certain things in life that are not forgotten and this was one.
Tony, thank you for your respectful comments. U was in Freshman PE. Our teacher was called out of the classroom only to return in tears. She broke the news to us. Kennedy/Nixon were the first debates to be broadcast. EVERYONE WATCHED THEN…nothing else back in the day, but certainly the era that brought politics into the living room. I have been on this same tour. It’s very moving. In the area I have done the cattle drive, the auction, and the mint(very cool). .
As another user said, try Sonny Bryan's -- the original on Inwood Road, near Parkland Hospital (where Kennedy was taken after being shot). Nothing fancy -- Tables are old school desks. But it has some of the best tender smoky brisket you will ever have. Try a chopped brisket sandwich, putting their homemade bbq sauce on each bite, along with an order of onion rings. Sonny Bryan's is on Wikipedia. Sonny died many years ago, but I still remember him at the front of the line smiling and chopping the brisket.
Bless you, Tony, for your respectful and sobered reaction to the 6th Floor Museum. That event was SEARED into so many of our souls, the same way 9/11 struck us. Glad to see Doug as well.
I know what you said about going to places where tragic things happened. In Hawaii, I visited the Arizona Memorial...you could almost feel the loss even though it happened before I was born...sad😢
Wife and I went to the 6th Floor museum a few years ago. As you say....very deep, especially since the news coverage and funeral are some of my earliest memories as a 6 year old.
I was in the 3rd grade and I remembered the teacher with a horrible concern on her face and she went out and got the roll around tv on a cart with rabbit ears, and we watched it even tho it was a snowy picture. Then it was on tv non-stop for at least a week. That was hard for kids to do without their tv shows. I mean we were young, but is is something you will never forget. Then it didn't seem like no time when Ruby shot Oswald sometime later.
I’m from Quebec and I remember when this happened, at school everything stopped. I had no idea who JFK was but we were told it was a very sad ending for someone who was a great President. Now I live in the USA, I know the history and if I ever go to Dallas, it sure would be something I would visit.
Did anyone else notice that as Tony was filming the "X" on the street where Kennedy was fatally wounded that a convertible was just driving over it? Gave me a chill.
Happy Saturday Tony & Jenny. BIG thanks for the wee tour of such terrible day in history. 👍👍 Could you take as many pictures as you wanted? I'm glad that you found some tasty BBQ. Aside from that at Buckees. 😉😃
i have lived in Dallas 35 years and only Driven passed 6 floor. i need to go check it out. The Place where Terry Black was is called Deep Ellum. Come back For the state Fair at the end of September into October.
We ate there when we went to Dallas to also see the Kennedy museum and site. The brisket was amazing and the corn soup maybe ?? (Forget what it was called), but very unique and delicious!!
My in laws lived in Dallas. We toured the museum probably 25 years ago. It sticks with you. My husband just went down there to see his sister and go to a funeral . Those toll roads are no joke. Keep an eye out for the bill. I think we threw away the first couple cause the envelope looked like junk mail. We thought they were payday loan crap. By the time I opened it, our $8 bill was up to $27. And they get threatening. Welcome to Dallas! 😂
Terry Black's is in Deep Ellum, home of another TH-cam channel, GTOger. Tow truck videos of cars illegally parked in the area! 😂 Great that you are enjoying your time in our great state of Texas!
#LaLidoLoca Hey Tony, welcome to town. Yes, we have many fine BBQ experiences. You were in what is called "Deep Ellum." Ask around as to why. I was 2Y/7M/5D and recall parts of it. Tragic indeed. My mom was one of the ladies who presented the yellow roses to Jacquie at Love Field. You always remember where you were when. And the Lego place is just down around the block from me. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip.
Wow! I was almost 4 and I also remember it. We were in the noertheast (Air Force) moving to El Paso and I remember being upset that I couldn’t watch cartoons. Only the funeral was on. We visited the original burial site of Kennedy and then when we got to Texas a few days later went through the parade route. I think you and I have to be some of the youngest people who actually remember this horrible event.
Hey! checking in from Northern California with 17 days until my next cruise. 😊 I was in 6th grade when JFK was killed. I will never forget. Principal brought tv into our classroom so that the 6th graders would know about the tragedy that would be part of our history.
Yesssss! I was beginning to wonder if I missed an upload or three. Glad you got some real deal BBQ. You made me hungry looking at it. Travel safely & I hope you enjoyed your time here in the great state of Texas!
I'm so glad you got to The Sixth Floor Museum. It's a somber place. I moved away from DFW several years ago, and did not know that they had a Terry Black's there. I'm so glad that you got to go eat there! YUM!! XOXO!
I was in 5th grade in 1963! We were in history class when they told us to get our chairs and walk to the cafeteria. I remember it like it was yesterday.
One thing that stood out to me was that looking out the window (next to Oswald's) the shot doesn't look as hard as everyone says. The X's on the street are not put there by the city, they have actually tried to remove them but people keep putting them back down and Oswald's widow still lives in the area.
My Corp office is in Dallas. My sales team won free trip to Dallas. Being in the place where JFK was shot was a lifetime memory. We stayed at the Hyatt House right by there. I found the area smaller than I had expected also
Tony, you do this so well. Love your little tours of interesting places. You make me want to jump in my car and head south from Minneapolis to Dallas. Thank you! Just booked my Bermuda cruise with Walter! Excited.
Hi Tony - glad you enjoyed your visit to D- town. Yes bbq can be expensive especially when it is by the pound. Your big beef brontosaurus rib rings the bell because of the large bone inside!!! The flag remains at half mast out of respect. One of our Dallas police officers was executed sitting inside of his squad car this week. RIP❤
6thfloor museum was great when I visited there 3 years ago, and I always go to Terry Black's, and you can buy Turkey or brisket and Mac and Cheese to go!!
Good choice with Black's. One of the best anywhere. I love Texas BBQ so much that I ordered a Texas Offset Smoker Pit from Aaron Franklin of Austin (another do not miss BBQ) and got it all set up in my yard late last year. A couple weeks ago I smoked 30 pounds of brisket, St. Louis Style spare ribs and beef ribs for a picnic for my car club. People lost their minds over how awesome it was - and especially the beef ribs. One rib can be close to a meal but when you smoke it and prepare it well, there's nothing better.
I'm glad you got Terry Black's - definitely a few flights of steps above Bu-cee's! By the way, the flags in Dallas were at half staff because we lost one of our precious police officers in an execution ambush last week. So very sad.
Tony...I was 12 years old when President Kennedy was assassinated. I remember exactly what was going on in my life. I was in 6th grade...changing into my gym clothes...when the principal came over the intercom system and announced what I had happened. My sister and I were "glued" to the TV for the entire weekend and actually saw when Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald. It was surreal then...and even more surreal now. Dan and I are going to Dallas in October after we get off the Jubilee. I'm exciting about seeing the things you saw! Thanks for the great video!
I was 13 in 1963. I lived in Dallas then and still do. I was devastated when Kennedy was killed because we were watching in class. The one thing I remembered after the murder for years if you said you were from Dallas people would say oh you live where they murdered Kennedy. I hated being associated with that.
I swear Tony, you and me are the same spirit animals. Just with your funny "Tony'isms" which are very much like what my hubby calls my "Vicki'isms", to you just saying "man, that was stupid good".. cuz I say that all the time. I LOVE it 😆🙌 12:03
Enjoyed the video, wish I had known you were in Dallas. I live in the DFW metroplex, and would love to have met you. Love your channel, keep traveling buddy.😊
Looks like they shorted the cut on that Beef Rib, unless you only asked for a certain weight? Not surprised at $200 for 3. But there are ways to keep it cheaper. I have not been to Terry Black's BBQ as of yet. I've heard it's wicked good! I'd recommend Hutchins BBQ in Frisco and McKinney.
Damn, Tony, you were a few hundred feet from where I was sitting at work this morning (across the plaza). We used to office in the Depository itself (County had 5th floor down). 1) Please tell me you didn’t try to get a photo on the X (people are idiots and do it all the time). The Museum, as you mention, is a treasure. 2) I had Terry Black’s once and it’s okay, but not worth the price. Hell, I’ll take Rudy’s (another franchise) over that-and there are so many other great and more reasonably priced places in the metroplex. 3) You were in Deep Ellum (plenty of history there as well). The Museum is in the West End. Look me up when you’re back in Dallas. 😁 It was nice to see you in familiar places.
I'm in Dallas and have never been to Terry Black's. After looking at their menu and seeing that a sandwich is $19, it might be a little longer. The Dallas Book Depository used to be open from 12pm to 2pm. Whenever I was in the area, it was closed. Guess I'll have to give it another try. Looks like they've put some money in to it since the last time I was in the area.
Hi Tony. All the memories came back to me from the day JFK was shot. It must have been a very heavy experience seeing all of that. Texas BBQ...wow that's expensive! It did look amazing and you certainly looked like you were in heaven. Lol. As always thank you for all you do ❤
I also thought that window was close to the street. They always talked about how Oswald was a such a sharpshooter so I assumed that it was a difficult shot
Thanks for taking us along with you, it looks like you had a great time and great barbecue! I’m a little bit jealous, but I don’t think I could eat all that. Maybe just sausage maybe a little coleslaw if they had it but that’s it but glad you had a great time. Tell Jenny I said hello, take care❤😁🛳️🦩⚓️
from the thumbnail alone (before reading the title) I thought for a moment you were joining one of the newfangled cruise-ship riots cutlass in hand... not that I can really imagine you going that route, but that was my first thought when I saw this still image.
You would have enjoyed visiting the Legoland Discovery Center in Grapevine, Texas while you were in Dallas. I took my son there once, he found a lot of pretty neat kits.
The cost is why I avoid artisan BBQ. I know of some place you can get some very good BBQ at a third the price. But being your first time, you should try some of the best. Along with the budget Buc-ee's.
I saw President Kennedy on November 21, 1963, the day before he was shot. I was a freshman at Alamo Heights High School on Broadway Street in San Antonio. The school suspended classes for a while and we all stood and watched as his motorcade (with Jackie) went by on Broadway, the route at the time from the San Antonio airport to downtown. The next day I had finished lunch as was waiting with others to go to home room, when I heard through rumors that he had been shot. Home room and all the remaining classes did nothing except listen to the radio which the school put on the P.A. system in each room. I hope you've had a good visit the Dallas "metroplex" area. I live in Carrollton (about 20 minutes north of Dallas) and usually drive to Galveston for my cruises and often would stop at the Buc-ees in Madisonville, Texas after the cruise. On the way to the cruise we usually stop at Sam's Restaurant in Fairfield -- a great buffet in including BBQ and chicken-fried-steak.
Had I paid attention that you were in the Dallas area, I would have given you the Babe of one of the best BarBQue joints & affordable. Austin's in Addison is by far one of the best I've had & the veggies are just as good!!!

I was in 8th grade & home for lunch. Reported it when I went back & no one would believe me. Soon the announcement came over the intercom.
I was 6, they sent us home from school. Such a sense of sadness everywhere. We sat in front of the TV, watching all the things.

And that is how it's done son! BBQ looks legit. Wham, bam, thank you mam. Bob's your uncle.
Glad you were able to ease your regret and experience this.
i like these historical things
huh cool, I was just there 6 weeks ago on a business trip! love the way you documented your visit!
That beef rib looked amazing but wow $200 for 3! I thought CA prices were high but I guess they are in TX too! 😮

I LOVE it 😆🙌 12:03
I got the news over the school intercom while I was in 7th Grade band class. Teachers were crying in the halls. It was a shock to everybody.
Enjoyed the video, wish I had known you were in Dallas. I live in the DFW metroplex, and would love to have met you. Love your channel, keep traveling buddy.😊
“Your welcome” , from your Texas friend!
You went to Terry Blacks!?!! I’m planning a trip to Austin, and Terry Blacks is the number 1 must do on my list. Can’t wait!
Great Dallas highlights!
Lol. As always thank you for all you do ❤
Powerful...
And then delicious all in one.
Thanks for the Entertainment Mate
Terry Blacks BBQ is a great choice!
I am so glad you finally got Great BBQ in Texas. ❤
It was good!
It was fun seeing your Dallas adventure. If I get to Dallas and go to Blacks, I'll definitely be conscious of the food's weight.
The 6th floor museum as well as is worth seeing. You got a socond meal and a complementary food coma.
Hey Tony, glad you went to Terry Black!!!!
Had I paid attention that you were in the Dallas area, I would have given you the Babe of one of the best BarBQue joints & affordable. Austin's in Addison is by far one of the best I've had & the veggies are just as good!!!
I took my daughter there on one of her spring breaks I am from there but the museum is worth a visit.
