In DFW the top spots are Goldee’s, Hutchins, Cattleack, Panther City, Pecan Lodge. And don’t say it’s too far from Mckinney to Ft. Worth. That’s what we do here in DFW, WE DRIVE!
We go to Hutchins in McKinney. A few years ago they had $18 for all-you-can-eat of anything (ribs, brisket, sausage, etc.). It was insane. Like everywhere else, prices have gone up.
Hutchinson & Cattleack beat every bbq joint in Dallas County, hands down. Go to other bbq joints and find out if they buy waygu & prime, no hormones, no antibiotics
Sometimes I think that TH-cam algorithm is too smart. I'm sitting here having a late night snack of yesterday's visit to Hutchins BBQ in McKinney....and up comes your video. Is it creepy or just good? Good creepy? LOL Seriously...great video! I haven't tried the other 4 locations mentioned, at least at those spots. The Texas Live location of Lockhart Smokehouse in Arlington....well, they failed to impress me back in 2019 when it opened....I bet they have fixed it since. For those wondering...Hutchins BBQ in Frisco or McKinney....they are wicked good! I agree on that drive thru in McKinney....some days I'll be cruising by and just hit their drive through for a quick bite, knowing anything else I get will still taste awesome the next few days.
How Goldees is not in the video is beyond me. Pecan lodge as well and Panther City and Heim. Should probably talk to locals about best BBQ instead of tourist places
There is nothing touristy about Hutchins in McKinney. It literally grew from a 2 room building. Agree I want to go try Goldees, but Hutchins is the gold standard in Dallas.
I absolutely love cattleack bbq especially the beef ribs I'm from Bensonhurst Brooklyn but I'm a professional poker player and ive been all around Texas personally though I think central texas has the best bbq
I tried most of these. Also, some favs not listed, such as Pecan Lodge and Hard Eight. Nobody beats the meats at Hutchins. I still need to visit Goldees.
Dallas barbecue is OK, but why not drive 30 minutes to Fort Worth and have your choice of some of the best barbecue in Texas. There are multiple joints in Cowtown that are lights out better than anything Dallas can offer.
The Meshack in Garland, TX is one of the best i have ever had in the Dallas area. I guess it is not on the list because it is not a sit down place. But the BBQ is amazing. You have to get there early to get rids, they run out fast. It is literally a hole in the wall BBQ joint, but the food is fantastic.
I don't think Lockhart Smokehouse even belongs in the same category as the others. The others are the just a few of the absolute top BBQ places in DFW.
How did you not go to one of oldest and best bbq restaurants in Dallas. Sonny Bryan’s. No one does old style bbq like Sonny’s. I don’t know who gave you this list, but they don’t know Texas bbq
I left DFW in 2012 when pecan lodge and Lockhart were the best in town. Now there are so many heat spots especially with Goldee’s in FW. I need to try Cattleack. Last time I was there for work most spots were closed when I was able to break away but Lockhart was open and was a go-to for me when I lived there but indoor dashed some Slow Bone which was fantastic as well. I’ve only had Terry Black’s in Austin but talk about legit! Just follow Daniel Vaughn and his suggestions and you’ll never go wrong!
Must also say when Pecan Lodge was in the farmers market I was number 2 in line once and it was such a fun experience Justin and Diane know how to smoke meat!
Fun video…must’ve been an amazing day! But…you went to Cattleack and didn’t get the pastrami brisket or the Mexican street corn?! Gotta go back, my man!
Had to keep the food choices consistent for the video, but Cattlack has some great options making it worth returning to often. It's also in a nice, central location that makes it easy to get to.
Hard Eight is not good bbq. It’s a fun experience though getting to pick your own meat and walking next to the smokers. But that’s where it ends. The location is ripe for success though being planted in the middle of prime real estate with major shopping all around it.
My rankings: 1.) Cattleack: parking is off street, i am not sure they have their own parking lot, they might. Expensive but the best. Only open Wednesday-Friday fron 10:00 am to when they sell out. Not good for working people. 2.) Terry Black: parking is a nightmare on the weekends. Lots of one way streets. Huge about 3X the size of Cattleack and Pecan Lodge. Friendly staff. Excellent but expensive. Lots of tourists 3.) 10-50: best parking because they own their own large parking lot. Lots of tv screens to watch sports so ideal for weekends. Friendly staff. Less expensive but not as good as Terry Blacks or Cattleacks but still really good. 4.) Pecan Lodge: parking is a nightmare because it is about 200-300 yards away from Terry Blacks. Much smaller but always packed. Good atmosphere. Pricing matches the quality and value. If Terry Blacks is too packed just walk over to Pecan Lodge. 5.) Lockharts: they have their own small parking lot. Last time i was there was anout 4 years ago but I wasnt impressed. I felt like it was overpriced and overrated but maybe i just caught them on a bad day. Honorable Mention: Black Smoke in Garland. Plenty of free parking. They serve Tri-Tip which is what I am used to being from the Central Coast of California. Their menu items are different from the other guys. Better value than the previously mentioned restaurants. Cool owner.
Reading the honks for each location. We are blessed to have not only the best Bar-B-Q in the world but other amazing foods in DFW. I use Hutchens as the gold standard to judge other restaurants.
Champions in Plano isn’t bad. Sides lack a little but ample servings of tender brisket. I’ve only tried the regular sausage and it’s basic but isn’t bad. Sure had worse. One thing I look at on brisket is it being sliced correctly. A BBQ joint can’t do that right they loose a lot of points for me. I want to try Hutchins for sure.
Of those spots on the spot I ever heard of was Terry blacks.. I guess that's the same reason why you never heard of Smokey Joe's or TD's or Records barbecue all Dallas based as well which serves potato salad (Southside)💯✌🏿
UMMMMMM!!! So I can tell you’re not a BBQ eater lol Son down here in TEXAS!?! You have to pick that BRISKET up and give us that fall-apart shot! If that Brisket don’t tear apart just by picking it up!?!? Well Shit-Fire son! That ain’t a good Brisket!!! But thanks for the review!!
Sorry Matt, but you should’ve added more to your list. Pecan Lodge and The Slow Bone should have been visited too. Those two are only in Dallas and are both fantastic. Also, I’ve never had less than a five-star experience at Lockhart SH.
I’ve been to Terry Blacks and Lockhart from your list but you need to go to the “F Dub” Ft worth has the #1 rated BBQ in Texas’s as rated by Texas Monthly who I would trust more than hometown voters or the Dallas Morning News. FW are also has Heim’s, Dayne’s Craft BBQ, Hurtados and another top 10 location Panther City close to the Hospital District off of I-35 just south of Downtown
If you're willing to drive to Sherman, I'd say cackle and oink is better than Hutchins. If you go there, try their brisket chili. It'll put you in a food coma
Your willy nilly throwing 5 stars shows your knowledge but hopefully you keep trying to gather some credibility as a bbq fan, learn to rate by the holy trinity, but you lost me at 1050 that is Yankee bbq, no smoke.
Terry Black is best for the food i ate a couple times, Hutchin has high prices, Lockhart is fine i also ate there, Ten 50's meat does not seem great, Cattleleack is overrated because I have been there. Cosco business center sells brisket for $2.99 a pound i saw a few weeks ago, how can these places sell for $35-$40 a pound? This is way overcharged. It is best to cook at home for the money 🤣. Look at the reviews is also a way to find out.
Dude, you are not from Dallas, you missed some of the long time greats that are not preppy! you should of asked around to long time residents before you made this video.
I tried Hutchins today based on your review. I gotta tell ya, Terry Black's brisket has better flavor. Mac and cheese was good. I got the pinto beans and they were not good. I didn't even finish them.
I’ve been to both places several times and Hutchins was better every time. Their deserts weren’t as good as what mom made though, but at least they don’t charge anything extra for them.
Whew...That's a great question! BBQ is not inexpensive. That's for sure. I think we spent $200-$300 total on these restaurants. All were pretty comparable on price points.
Why would anyone go to Dallas for the best BBQ in Texas? That's like going to Buffalo, NY to shop for the best luxury goods. The 5th Avenue of BBQ is 4 hours south of Dallas.
Any "Best BBQ in Dallas" list that doesn't have 'Mike Andersons BBQ' on it, isn't a "Best BBQ in Dallas" list. EPIC FAIL. Don't get me wrong, the places you mentioned are good. But Mike's is the next level good.
Pappas BBQ off NW Highway and Lombardy is the best in my humble opinion. Best meat, sides, sauces, desserts. Not the most hip/trendy area, but always top notch for me... and not a total buy-by-the-pound rip off like many places are. Pork ribs, brisket, pasta salad, cream corn and carrot cake are my favorites there.
Pecan lodge sucks. So heavily smoked and sauced you hardly taste the meat. And If you eat it at night don’t plan on sleeping because you need the stomach of a cow to digest it. Btw. Why no pork ribs? I prefer bbq in Europe. They have a light touch

That's the truth. Lots of Driving in DFW! I think a Fort Worth BBQ video may be in order soon.
Agree with Goldees but absolutely would not put Pecan Lodge above Lockhart. PL seems to just have turned into the "tourist" BBQ spot.
Hutchins is the best
We go to Hutchins in McKinney. A few years ago they had $18 for all-you-can-eat of anything (ribs, brisket, sausage, etc.). It was insane. Like everywhere else, prices have gone up.
Not a real top 5 without Goldee's in it!
Hutchins!!!!!!!!!!
Fort Worth area has Golddies, go there. Take a road trip south to Austin and visit LeRoy and Lewis!
Austin has some great spots for sure. I'm thinking a "Best BBQ in Fort Forth?" video might also be in order, too. 🤔
@@matthaistings Do both! In FW, Goldees and Panther City are excellent!

Because he’s in Dallas not Ft Worth lol
exactly! Though Fort Worth is a pretty great city. That's a whole separate video to be made - and even more BBQ to eat! 😁
Didn't he visit Plano? That's not Dallas. But I agree missed out on good bbq Goldees and ribees
Because it's average at best.. Sorry
There is nothing touristy about Hutchins in McKinney. It literally grew from a 2 room building. Agree I want to go try Goldees, but Hutchins is the gold standard in Dallas.
12:19am Smokey Joe's and Odam's! Come to tha hood.
Tender Smokehouse in North Dallas, blows my socks off every time!
Both those options are pretty great. I'm still needing to make it out to Goldees myself.
The whiskey butter milk pie at hard eight is delicious!
Dallas barbecue is OK, but why not drive 30 minutes to Fort Worth and have your choice of some of the best barbecue in Texas. There are multiple joints in Cowtown that are lights out better than anything Dallas can offer.

Realtor, food critic--is there anything Matt can't do? Love it. Keep going, Matt.
I do love Texas BBQ, but I’m not sure I could tell you much about any other cuisine, though. 🤪
Not to mention life coaching and only fans
One out of two ain’t bad. Should’ve gone to Goldees. Then you’d have 1 and 2 in the DFW(Goldees, then Hutchins).
Angelo’s and The Railhead in Fort Worth have a unique style of bbq. Chopped sandwich is the move
Those are Bland-B-Q
I don't think Lockhart Smokehouse even belongs in the same category as the others. The others are the just a few of the absolute top BBQ places in DFW.
How did you not go to one of oldest and best bbq restaurants in Dallas. Sonny Bryan’s. No one does old style bbq like Sonny’s. I don’t know who gave you this list, but they don’t know Texas bbq
Slow Bone is my fav in Dallas
I've really enjoyed Slow Bone myself. Been some time since I've been there.
Should've got the Jalapeno Pinto Beans at Huthins! they put meat trimmings and drippings in them!!! Hutchins is best in Dallas!!!!

Hard Eight is not good bbq. It’s a fun experience though getting to pick your own meat and walking next to the smokers. But that’s where it ends. The location is ripe for success though being planted in the middle of prime real estate with major shopping all around it.
DFW, all within about 60 miles apart, Cattelack, Hutchins, Terry Black's, Goldees, and Panther City
DFW has improved a lot since I moved here in 1996. However, central Texas BBQ is better and there are more great bbq places to go to.
DFW has definitely stepped up it's BBQ game, but it does seem like all the greats originate from Central Texas
My rankings:

Good point about parking. That was definitely tricky at a lot of these spots. If you can visit on a weekday, that's the best plan.
Just around the corner from Cattleack is CrossBiuck. I lille the brisket at Crossbuck better than Cattleack and I really like their Margarita's.
Bless his heart no burnt ends no beef ribs? Smh we have got to learn you how to eat bbq in tx!
Had to be consistent and not all these spots offer those items. 😉 But certainly great items when a place has them.
Burnt ends is a KC thing
For me, beef rib tastes like brisket on a bone. I would rather just skip the bone(and the price).
@@tomcat8662 Ribs have much more flavor and are more tender. It's the same reason why pork ribs are better than pork butt

Terry blacks is my wife’s favorite
Cattleack's is great, but they are a little "soup natzi". They only have a given amount of food, when they run out they're done for the day.

Great Video brother!!!
Thanks! Had a great time filming this one!
Coming from Kansas i hate the way all the texas BBQ works. Your food is cold by the time you sit down
Go back to Kansas
You must be taking a long time to get to your table. I’ve never had cold bbq here.
Not having pecan lodge bring s while recite into question
You must try 407 BBQ, in Argyle. Rated #1 by the Dallas Morning News.
I have. It's excellent. A bit far out there, for sure. Maybe we will do a part 2 and over it. 👍🏼
@@matthaistings That would be great! They normally have a waiting line, but it moves quickly.
Tender Smokehouse - Celina. couple years ago was voted best in the "country" not just DFW
Have you tried Oakd bbq
not yet... this one is on my list. They actually just opened a second location in Addison, too.
Not impressed with Oakd
Man how can you just get sausage and brisket and judge the place, what about the ribs, chicken, turkey, burt ends !!
Exactly!!
You need to go to burnt bbq and tacos. Hands down the best bbq closest to Plano. I’m a Hutchins guy but not anymore!

Goldees
Some good options here but Hutchins is the best, in my opinion. Ten50 doesn't make the top 20 on my list. .

Hutchins in trophy club was good but.......Goldees is top tier. Coopers in stockyards is solid number two
Franklins in Austin supposed to be best; not tried it yet; have to wait in long line
The difference between Franklin's and other top BBQ joints isn't enough to justify a 3 hour wait in line.
Whenever I've been in Austin, I've felt the same way. I suppose the 3-hour wait is part of the Franklins brand.
