The exquisitely unique Patricia noting how the extraordinarily expressive Ingrid shared each moment of what she was playing, even when that moment contained a tiny journey within.

Clarkson herself is a wonderful actress, one of the best of her contemporaries. And Bergman...Bergman long ago captured my heart and she has it still.

How many Oscars? 3. There was a reason she won. The "one long take" from Murder on the Orient Express was a master class. 4+ minutes, in close-up. As director Sidney Lumet says,
"She had chosen a very small part, and I couldn't persuade her to change her mind. Since her part was so small, I decided to film her one big scene, where she talks for almost five minutes, straight, all in one long take. A lot of actresses would have hesitated over that. She loved the idea, and made the most of it. She ran the gamut of emotions. I've never seen anything like it."
She won an Oscar for it!

Apparently because Lumet allowed Bergman to do it in 1 take, when he said cut she stood up & gave him a kiss, & why not? He gifted her an Oscar. Which, Bergman being Bergman, she used her acceptance speech to say that fellow nominee Valentina Cortese should have won.

Ingrid could play anything. Her face and expressions show what the characters are about. Admirable actress

The scene they showed labeled as “Intermezzo 1939” was from the 1936 Swedish version of the film.

Bergman was more interesting in life than any of the characters she played on screen. When Lauren Bacall was widowed, she moved her young children to NYC & began a new career as Broadway star ("Widow is not a profession", as she succinctly put it). When she starred in Cactus Flower, she hoped to star in the film, instead Bergman was cast. Later, Bergman would announce herself @ Bacall's dressing room door, saying, "It's the person you hate most in the world!" Obviously Bogie's babies got over it sufficiently to work together in classic Murder On the Orient Express. In an era where people became unemployable because of their politics, only Bergman could recover from a notorious scandal to star in movies again & win another Oscar (2, in fact).
