I never comment but she is definitely top 3 for me for who you've covered. She just seemed to have such a balance of both masculinity & femininity, which made it easier to navigate on her own terms, IMO because when you operate too heavily in either, I feel like you become too careless/emotionless or too caring & you sacrifice yourself in the midst. I love that she learned after the 1st marriage to not allow the toxicity drag out for too long. She LIVED LIFE & you can tell she really lived & loved every moment & I love that for her. It's inspiring. Thank you for this one, seriously. I needed this today 💕

Her cancelation/blackballing came about for one reason only. Money. She had a very European outlook, so she didn't try to hide anything about the affair or the pregnancy. In American culture that was a huge no no at that time. So, the ppl who canceled her/separated themselves from her did so because they knew the American ppl would cancel them too. Their careers were in just as much jeapordy. It was always about the bottom line, not their personal beliefs or feelings on the subject. As you said many of them were involved in much worse behavior. Ironically my favorite Bergman film is Indiscreet.

As much as I love many of her films, I'm awed by her bravery to follow her heart and be true to herself. Yes, she was vilified in Hollywood and paid a huge price for her affair with Roberto Rossellini. She was not EVIL! She was an actress. One usually finds that the moralizers are often less moral than the people they excoriate. Relax, it's just image and vanity. In real life, everyone said what a fun person she was. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes. At least, she took responsibility for hers and blamed no one else. These days, that's rare and admirable.

Now wait a minute, your bias is showing. You paint Ingrid's husband Peter as being a gold-digger because he stayed married to a woman who would rather sleep her way through the social scene of Hollywood then be a wife.
If my husband slept around on me to the extent that she whored around in Hollywood I would take his money, look the other way and build a life with our child.
Yes there was and is a double standard. But, as you well know, two wrongs do not make a right.
After hearing of all of the incredible number of affairs, rampant drug use, child labor tragedies and drunken orgies that prevailed in Hollywood, and as it is an industry that feeds on appearance and self-glorification and glamorizes and rewards incredible vanity, I would have to say that his attitude towards Hollywood was not one of fear but one of disgust and I believed him totally justified in trying to distance himself, his wife and most certainly his child from the influence of such a culture.

There is an All Star Tribute video from 1979 on TH-cam. It's great. Frank Sinatra is in it as well as alot of other actors and actresses who paid homage to her. There have been alot worse things said about actresses than her. Unlike Bette Davis, she didn't have a scandal about beating her children. She was not difficult for actors or producers to work with. Her accent and voice is beautiful. She is not catty with other females, but is professional and real.

Totally agreed Karine Ingrid Bergman was playing the Hollywood game like every other actress in Hollywood. The way the men set it up and then she was getting bastardized for it by the very men created this mygonstic institution who just love breaking their own rules and mostly because her heart wasn't in it and she wasn't fool by the pretence of it all was the real problem I mean men were allowed to be heartbreakers not women it just wasn't done then and yes because she was a power player and yes, because she did weld a great deal of influence during this era.
I didn't think outside of Grace Kelly any actress who graced as much astounding beauty with a subtle regal poise on the silver screens with much dignity as Ingrid Bergman that's how I liked to remember her a true Queen amongst a sea of followers that's her unique european quality.
I remember how I used to listen to the commentary and how men particularly justified this hatred of Ingrid because they felt because of the conservativeness of the time rather than they were brandishing a feminist rebel so betrayed by the opposite of her person compared to the characters or rather the roles she was pigeon holed to played with those doe eye fresh look who else could you be better sweet innocent ingenue rather what they could only accept of a foreigner to play that would acceptable because of America's xenophobia & sexism and Ingues was very popular then practically every leading actress was playing was playing a baby. When I was a young giel I really didn't think about this perspective until you brought it up!
I mean you only have to look towards other stereotypes popular for foreigners like Hedy Lamar characterization to know it's true but guess what that's what acting is and damn it she was good at it!
And I got a funny feeling the reason why women of this era wasn't condemning her because during these times where sexual politics were both oppressive and stifling I believe they were secretly too busy fantasize a precariously free life like hers.

Usually by plucking, but they never ended up with a overly large forehead so I think it was just done to balance out the features or remove some babyhair. But I doubt a woman who doesn't wear make up or pluck her eyebrows is removing a lot of her other hair.
Cheating is always a scandal, it's just that back then they just didn't divorce. They just lived their lives as if they were single. I'm iffy about her reasons to start these affairs though, so many of these amazing women start dating the most powerful men they come across, who look old and gross. You can't help thinking they are doing it for the perks.

Omg!!! ❤ Ingrid Bergman is my favorite actress, especially because we share the same birthday (August 29)! 🥰 She is the quintessential Virgo, and I feel such a kinship with her 😌 I’m so glad you made this video! 🎉

Wow in her early life she couldn't get a break. From loosing her mom at 2 years old and then her father at just 14, that's a lot on anyone. I've always enjoyed her movies, and if she was around today the relationship she had with her first husband would be considered polyamorous .

"One of the first starlets of Hollywood's Golden Age to be cancelled"? Wrong. First, she was not a starlet, she was a major star. Second, scandalized Hollywood stars were a dime a dozen before Bergman ever came along. I applaud your interest in film history, but please do more thorough research before you present yourself as an authority on these subjects.

    • @AGirlofYesterday
      @AGirlofYesterday ปีที่แล้ว

@@skipp10467 Both Mabel Normand and Mary Miles Minter were 'canceled' by being suspected of William Desmond Taylor's murder in 1922. Clara Bow was 'canceled' when a series of (mostly false) scandals were publicized in 1931. Alice White's career ended with a scandal in 1933. Mae West was maligned when the Production Code was enforced in 1934, effectively killing her career. These are just a handful off the top of my head.

How do you process abandonment. An indescribable, unnurturing exchange from your own mother. It is similar to murder in your own bloodline. An innocent soul destroyed. She possessed the most arrogant and selfish spirit of all !...this is not rocket science, It is totally evil.

Examine the current state of the world. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 states "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" Jesus is coming back. Are you ready?

The outrage wasnt over her leaving her husband, actresses did that all the time. The outrage was over leaving her daughter. Same reason people turned agaisnt Elizabeth Taylor when she stole Debbie Reynolds' husband (and I don't know why she wanted him, he was a weak character) there were babies involved. The US later "forgave" Elizabeth by giving her the Oscar for a terrible film, as she herself thought, becaaue Elizabeth got quite ill and almost died.

Karine, Love your channel. I Alway's liked Ingrid Bergman. She was really before her time. She wanted blacks to be integrated in the Americans army. Ingrid stood up and said this before Blacks were integrated in American army by President Truman in 1948! Remember blacks were segregated in Army until 1948. Plus quite a few stars were scandalous, but some were lucky that they were not discovered as much. Thanks for the upload.

She always reminded me of the 'CEO's ideal wife,' subtlety lovely and wholesome; intelligent yet nurturing. Loyal, fierce yet fragile. He could rescue her OR she could rescue him.
When she boldly stepped out and did what she wanted to do with her own private life -- 'influential white men' went CRAZY. Like KA said, they didn't want her to influence 'their women' like that. I agree, she pushed the envelope -- and 'thinking' really began to change socially due to the actions of many 'Prestigious' women like her.

I mean, she might've done well with leaving marriage before having other partners, and her other failed marriages may have indicated that she didn't compromise enough, and didn't take the time to make her men feel secure in that she wouldn't leave them.
