Grace, beauty, simplicity, class and a timelessness that transcends eras. I love the way she tosses her head proudly but remains coy. I think it must be a nervous habit. An unaffected and unadorned beauty. My father was madly in love with her, as were countless men back in the 40’s and 50’s. Tragically she died of breast cancer in 1982, nine years after this interview.

Do wedding vows mean nothing? Have you read the 10 Commandments? Her affair was in the 1940s. The world was a more traditional place then. This has to be partly laid on the upbringing by her father and mother, not instilling the proper values in their daughter.

Great interview, great person. So forthright and honest. She was so down-to-earth and real with none of those trappings of a Hollywood movie star, no airs about her. She was so very open and even answered questions on her romance/marriage/divorce to Rosselini, the director of her wonderful film "Stromboli". She also gave us an insight of how she switched roles with Lana Turner, opting for the bad-girl part, in the 1940's classic "Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde" starring that mountain of a talent, Spencer Tracy. I recall when I was a kid I used to cry every time I saw the wonderful Ingrid in Joan of Arc. Years later she proved her comedic ability in the glorious 'Cactus Flower' with another bundle of talent, Goldie Hawn and Walter Mathaeu. Yes, Ingrid will always be loved and remembered because she was a part of our lives that could never be erased. RIP dear lady!!!

A wonderful interview with a polished interviewer! Thank you!
She had a lot of acting left in her after this interview. Wikipedia: "Bergman became one of the few actresses ever to receive three Oscars when she won her third (and first in the category of Best Supporting Actress) for her performance in 'Murder on the Orient Express' (1974)." Other roles followed.
In 1982, Bergman played the starring role in a television mini-series, 'A Woman Called Golda' about the late Israeli prime minister Golda Meir. It was her final acting role and she was honored posthumously with a second Emmy Award for Best Actress.

People who learn to speak a 2nd language later in life, after having learned their mother tongue in infancy, never really "loose their accent", there is no such thing. Some might have a better command but the 1st language will always be stronger, overlap and show its influence, one way or another, especially when the mother tongue belongs to a different language family. The pronunciation is the first thing native speakers pick up on because that is immediately apparent to a listener, although it goes deeper than that. The brain has an extraordinary capacity for language assimilation, but non-linguists or people who never learned a foreign language to fluency rarely understand and realize that.

Because of the movie Gaslight, the word gaslighting is part of our language now, although a lot of people don't know that it originated with the movie w Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant.
I had to explain to someone that the term came from that movie, in which Cary Grant tries to drive Ingrid Bergman mad by convincing her that reality is a lie and a lie is the truth so that he can get rid of her and have his lover (forget how it ends, must see it now).
