Tv today is designed to generate "excitement," not insight. Dick Cavett was a wonderfully thoughtful man, and smart as a whip. There was no other tv host back then who displayed Cavett's enormous intellect, which is what drew many famous people to his show. As for why we don't have shows like this today, people today don't seem to want things that make them think, or our tv "hosts"- type shows would have more Dick Cavetts and fewer...David Lettermans, for example. And I'm sure Letterman was a great tv host, but as you can see, Cavett's show was more intellectual. He didn't ask questions for laughs. Rather he asked questions to gain insight into what the guest thought and how they moved thru Life. Even excellent hosts - such as Johnny Carson - went for the laugh (not a bad thing!!!).
Oh please post the whole interview. A marvel to listen to, and Dick Cavett is a great interviewer, and a marvel to look at. The snippets about the great Rossellini are invaluable information too.
It's interesting they discuss amateur actors because Ingrid's leading man in "Stromboli", her first film for Roberto Rossellini, was a fisherman! Rossellini saw Mario Vitale, who had no acting experience but who was a very good-looking man and hired him for the movie.
have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like the other ones.

Still experiencing the same audio problems, I see, or rather hear, or rather CAN'T hear. This channel needs to have at least ONE competent individual involved with uploading, or it's doomed to failure and obscurity.
No sound problems. Have you considered consulting a competent doctor regarding the hearing loss that comes with aging? It often starts in specific ranges of sound. Or maybe you just enjoy lashing out like a cray cray.
@@Marcel_Audubon My hearing is just fine. Only this channel has such problems among my 573 subscriptions. Have you considered consulting a reading comprehension or "mindfulness" therapist? You obviously didn't read my reply to the other respondent, or you didn't understand it.
That smile has got to be one of the greatest smiles ever in film history.
Yes, her entire face lights up when she smiles.

Why can't we have tv shows like this today?
We don’t have people around today that are legendary.
@@lynngregory393 With the exceptions of Angela Lansbury, Mel Brooks, Dick Van Dyke, and Stephen Sondheim.

Brilliant actress. Thank you Ingrid and Dick 👍❤️🇬🇧
Ingrid one of greatest women legendarys movie stars and the industry.

What a classy lovely lady
She certainly was 😊
I was born in 2004 but I still find myself thinking 🤔 💭
I miss the dick cavett show.....
He's still with us!!

It's interesting how she refuses to mention Rossellini by name - he's "my former husband" or "the Italian director."
@@balok63a40 Very good point. Her deliberate refusal to say his name is telling.
Great interviewer with a superb actress. WOW,mis the only word that comes to mind, followed by “thank you.”
She does not have a bad side.
A great actor can be great in 50 films and a hundred plays and bring many characters believably to life. An amateur can only do it once or twice.
A beautiful Swede❤️

Great lady! (Great sound, too, for me.)
Can’t hardly hear it :(

Hacking this superb interview into clickable bits does disservice to both interviewer and interviewee, as well as the viewing public. Pity.
Did he just ask her about her neck? She’s got a great neck! Thank you for asking my question, Dick.

There aren't audio problems. Your computer must be having issues

She's famous because of Bogart.
