For USA Citizens: I submitted my FBI background check to be apostilled and it took about 77 days (it expires at 90 days). I did another FBI background check and after sending to Washington DC to be apostilled I contacted my state congressman to fast-track the process; I subsequently received it at my house in about 10 days. **Keep in mind: The background check clock starts ticking when conducted and not after it is apostilled.**
I had not even had this kind of thinking on radar. This information was great to keep in the back of my mind for the future! Thank you Patrick and Cristian!
Thank you for creating this video. I'm so glad he mentioned the background report must be translated. We were almost screwed because we almost missed that step. We decided to hire a professional and had a great experience with a company called Capital Area Apostille. They were fast, friendly and helpful with regard to the apostille process.
I do appreciate your effort in talking to the Balcells Law Firm's CEO. However he forgot to mention that the people from the Philippines, Portugal, Andorra, & Equatorial Guinea can apply for Spanish citizenship after 2 years besides from the people from Latin American countries.
Hey, thanks for this vid! I'm a Canadian and New Zealand citizen, living in Canada. I haven't spent much time here lately, and have spent a lot of time in Madrid (Spaib in general). Looking to give up Montreal for a new life in Madrid and this visa seems like the best one for my situation. The thing is, I'm not a "digital" Nomad... I'm a true Nomad! I lead tours for a living, and lately have been escorting tours in Europe (including Spain) for a Canadian company. I also work for other American companies, leading tours in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. All of my income comes from these companies and/or from rental income (Airbnb when I'm not in Montreal). I get paid in my US, Australian, and Canadian bank accounts, and I'm a tax resident of Canada (Quebec). My question is, does this visa still apply if the work I'm doing is not done in Spain and I want to reside there when I'm not on tour? Having escorted tours in Spain this year (but being paid by a Canadian company) would this potentially affect my application? I know it's an unusual situation, but I would appreciate any advice you can give! Thanks again!
Excellent video Patrick. Thanks a lot for making the video. Our situation is different that the one cover in this video. Since we are retired. Ramon and Zoe.
Thank you so much for this information! I’m starting a year early but I don’t even know where to start. I guess consulting with a lawyer is the best route. Already have what I think may be a letter of employment from my employer but I didn’t specify what he advised. Just my tenure length, employment status & salary. Thanks again man!
Thanks so much, Patrick. Great info. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking into retiring in the next couple of years, and I'm looking into Spain or Portugal for permanent residency.
The explanation is clear ❤️ direct to the point, I like it so much , with this visa can I work for a company in Spain while working remotely for a foreign company?
I see two tax percentages a lot with regards to Spain for this special regime. This video talks about 24%, but I’ve also seen 15%. Was in before 15 and now 24? I know Portugal used to have 0 and now it’s 20. Others have posted that spains 15 is better than Portugal’s 20. If income is good the difference between 23 and 15 is huge
How can I register for the nomad visa as a full time employee working remotely for a U.S. company? I hear there is a bigger process for it since the US doesn’t provide social security
Thanks for this video! Quick question: when he mentioned savings of approx $28,000, does he mean that we need to already have at least 28,000 in our bank accounts? Or that we need to prove we will be making enough monthly to add up to that amount yearly? Thanks in advance for clarifying.
Hi Julia, appreciate the question. My recommendation would be to get in touch with the experts to make sure you have all the correct info. Thanks for watching.
I'm from United States and am interested in the digital nomad visa. I recently lived in Spain on a volunteer visa from February to July of this year, 2024. I also lived in Spain previously from 2017 to 2021 on a student visa where I had a TIE card. My question is, ( assuming I have been working remotely for at least 3 months) do I need to wait a period of time before I could apply for the digital nomad visa? For example do I need to wait for 5 years or something like that?
Question: The United States and Kingdom of Spain have a tax treaty to avoid double taxation. How would this apply with the digital nomad tax requirements?
I paid for and attended a Digital Nomad Visa consult with Balcell. They have dropped the ball on moving forward with assisting me and my partner. At present, they are non-responsive to emails. I cannot recommend Balcell for Visa assistance, based on my experience.
Hi Patrick, If my husband works remotely and I go to Spain with him, can I also work legally there even if it’s not remote work? Thank you for the info!
Does anyone know how the visa works if you get laid off or quit? Do you get a grace period before you have to leave the country or do you get to stay for the rest of the year that your visa was stated to be active for?
Can anyone confirm if the flat tax (24%) is still accurate? I saw somewhere else that the taxes might be on the same rate as others in Spain (scaling).
He mentioned that we need to show a university degree "OR" work experience. I studied something else in Uni and working as something else. If we have both uni and work experience, that would also be safer right ? Also, I recently started working as a marketing freelancer with 2 years of work exp in corporate.
How much did their services cost for everything? I talked to another lawyer firm and they want 2000€ not including application fees and everything. Just doing some comparisons
Thanks for the video. I’m from the US and my company says I can’t work outside of the country, even with a visa. There’s nothing in their policy that talks about this. I think they’re worried about taxes. They say I have to be registered in the company with a U.S. address. Does the DNV protect companies from any issues here if they let their employees work in Spain with the DNV?
Incredible video, thank you so much! My biggest concern is that I got my FBI background check and am in the process of getting it apostilled, but do I also need a California background check as well, and does it need to be apostilled? Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this. Can applicants enter Spain with their first-world passport then apply for DNV in Spain with their ex-colony passport, to be able to apply for SP citizenship after 2 years of residence? Thank you.
If you are a freelancer and your only income is what gets credited to your home country bank account by your employer, and if you have no clients in Spain, do you pay 24 percent tax on the income credited each month into your home country bank account.
Can you please clarify the rules about obtaining a permanent residency and citizenship? For permanent residency, you cannot leave Spain for a total of ten months within a 5 year period but you must leave 6 months out of the year for ten years to obtain citizenship?
I am a freelancer (autonomo) and the advice I have been given on tax is that an autonomo has to pay social security in spain and also an autonomo does not benefit from the tax regime of this Digital Nomad Visa. I was told by the lawyer that autonomos have to also declare their world assets, pay wealth tax and submit a modelo 720. I'm finding it hard to get any confirmation on this position???
I am from Pakistan and receive my salary in a local bank. My salary is 3,000 euros. Can I apply for a nomad visa for Spain? If yes, do I need to show salary slips for the last three months from my local bank?
Are you sure it is 24% flat tax? I heard it is 15%. If it is 24%, it doesn't make any sense to move from UK for tax purposes. But access to EU market would be lucrative though!
Again, I'm not the expert here, but I believe with the rule it's 24%. Once you become a tax resident the the Beckham Law allows for the 15%. But if you are interested you should contact a lawyer like Cristian!
This is for freelancers. You will enter the autonomo system and be taxed as any Spanish autonomo is which is a sliding scale starting at 24%. If you work for a company that has a tax agreement with Spain you pay taxes in your own country.
Patrick, just to clarify about Spain's tax requirements: As an American digital nomad applying for a long-term dig nomad visa in Spain (and staying longer than 6 months), I would be taxed at 24% for my work income regardless of where that income is earned? If my primary employer for my digital work is in the States, for example, I would be taxed 24% on all of that income? Or is that incorrect, and I'm taxed 24% only on income from Spanish employers?
I’m from the UK and I am confused as to what the “British National Social Security” is, is this just paying into National Insurance? If so, which forms do I need.
You should expect to receive a resolution within 20 days from the application date. If you don't, you can apply for positive administrative silence, which means your application is likely to be considered approved by default
@@veasy_official but how are they checking all these documents if they are issued from another country ? And what if I overstay my visa and my documents get declined ? There is a risk there at some point , if I over stay my visa they declined me and don’t want to accept the documents , what should I do ? No one can guarantee bureaucracy.
Well. I'm confused. I thought you had to prove a salary of a certain amount per month as a freelancer! But, here it states you need to prove savings? So you need to show you have X amount of money in a bank account at the time of application?
Hopefully you already got clarity on this. But you are absolutely correct, freelancers need to prove steady income through bank statements and invoices to clients over a period of 3 months, rather than savings.
Hi @Patrickguidebarcelona Happy Friday! I hope you're having a great day. Q: To be eligible to apply for a digital nomad visa, a freelancer typically needs to demonstrate a minimum monthly earning threshold. What is this threshold? Thank you!
€2,400 per month if you're the only one who is applying for a visa. Family of 2 €4,200 per month Family of 3 €4,800 per month Family of 4 €5,400 per month
Two questions please: Are there's specific countries that are eligible to apply? Can i apply for the permanent residency for the long run? How is health care system in Spain? Do patients wait for long time like Canada or uk?
Yes. I am Canadian married to a Spaniard. I would not have to wait 10 years to get a nationality if I decided to live there (in retirement) and apply for nationality, correct?
With marriage that is a different way that is outside the scope of this video. I’m not 100% sure about that answer but keep in mind long-term residency and nationality are different things
Hi thanks for sharing I'm your new subscriber. Is it possible this procedure in Middle East??? I'm currently working here in Bahrain And I want to go there in Spain directly. I hope you can answer my question. Love from Philippines
Hey hey! Thank you so much for making this video. It was super helpful. I have two follow-up questions which I hope you can answer. To give you some context: I'm currently working for a UK-based company fully remotely from Pakistan. I meet all the minimum income requirements, plus I also have a bachelor's degree + 8 years of experience in my trade. However, I'm currently classified as an "Independent Contractor" in my contract with my company. Here are my questions: 1. Do I classify myself as an employee or a freelancer? 2. If it's the latter, do I also need to have an established business (like an LLC) in my home country (Pakistan)? For reference, I currently do not have one. Would really appreciate your help with this. Cheers!
Thanks for watching. Those are questions you would need to speak with the lawyers about! Balcells does great work, they will give you a better answer than me!
Holy Hellfire and damnation troy! It's only 80 Euro for health insurance. So why in the world does it cost $800 a month in the US? Only 10 times more. Not bad.
There’s a simple answer, and it’s linked to income taxes. In the US, one pays a low tax rate (percentage is 1/2 or less at the same income levels as Spain), but higher for health insurance. In Spain, the nominal rate for taxes about 50k is 44%, but health insurance is lower. Even though the bucket called health insurance in Spain is lower, the 24% income tax balances it out.
I think I seen something saying you can get accepted for 3 years when applying in Spain and 1 year when applied from us but make sure ! I’ve read this on a couple forums but can’t say 1000%
I want to find out how much do i need pay taxes and social security 1. As self employee 2. As Employee Do you know who i can contact to find out this information? I speak Russian as well, Thanks a lot.
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona That does not answer the question. It just points to the place to have a consult. People want to know what is the cost of this group from submitting the paperwork to receiving the visa not just for the initial consultation. It can be misleading and not worth it if its 10k in fees to get this done vs doing it yourself or having someone else do it.
Hey! Great video mate. My partner recently got a job in Spain. She’s from Ireland so she doesn’t need a visa However I will need one to live there will her correct ? I am an affiliate marketer and my income is now all affiliate commissions. Will this count towards a Nomad Visa? Or would it be easier applying for a family visa! Appreciate it 🙏🏻
As I said in the video, I’m no expert in this field. I would reach out to Balcells Group. But from the information you’ve provided there might be better visas for you
It's an insane amount of taxes and Social Security payments that they want you to pay quarterly and the Social Security monthly up to 500 euros every month. Why is anyone gonna do that if we are literally only going to stay for a year? Honestly, I don't know who's gonna go through all of that hassle.

However, I'm currently classified as an "Independent Contractor" in my contract with my company. Here are my questions:
Balcells does great work, they will give you a better answer than me!
any update brother
did u got the visa
So there is no minimal wage condition for the employed (non-freelancers)? You only need approval from your company and you pay 24% tax?
200% of SMI..about 26,000 euros per year
@@simpleenglishadvice3016 so you don’t need savings just prove you’ll make that much ?
@@dubwavy6386 It depends on individual circumstances but savings are usually asked for as well, dependent on the income.
Can digital nomads in Spain apply for Permanent residency later on ? What is the minimum required income per month please?
He answered this question in the video… Yes
Holy Hellfire and damnation troy! It's only 80 Euro for health insurance. So why in the world does it cost $800 a month in the US? Only 10 times more. Not bad.
🤯
There’s a simple answer, and it’s linked to income taxes. In the US, one pays a low tax rate (percentage is 1/2 or less at the same income levels as Spain), but higher for health insurance. In Spain, the nominal rate for taxes about 50k is 44%, but health insurance is lower. Even though the bucket called health insurance in Spain is lower, the 24% income tax balances it out.
Hi, if I'm already in Spain, should I leave Spain to apply for Nomad Visa in Spanish Council in my country? Or I can do it in Spain?
You can do it from Spain. We talk about that towards the end of the video with somethings to keep in mind if you do
I think I seen something saying you can get accepted for 3 years when applying in Spain and 1 year when applied from us but make sure ! I’ve read this on a couple forums but can’t say 1000%
Dependent can work in there?
Thanks for your question, but as I said in the video. I am not the expert. This video was made to point you in the right direction
I want to find out how much do i need pay taxes and social security

2. As Employee
Do you know who i can contact to find out this information?

All of the information is in the description, have a look and Balcells can help
How much is the lawyer’s fee?
You have the link below!
@@JustinPratt1 We charge €500 incl. official costs. (Only doing Malaga at the moment though)
Hey! Great video mate.
My partner recently got a job in Spain. She’s from Ireland so she doesn’t need a visa
However I will need one to live there will her correct ?
I am an affiliate marketer and my income is now all affiliate commissions. Will this count towards a Nomad Visa? Or would it be easier applying for a family visa!
Appreciate it 🙏🏻
As I said in the video, I’m no expert in this field. I would reach out to Balcells Group. But from the information you’ve provided there might be better visas for you
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Appreciate the reply. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@TheMoneyProjectOfficial Of course, you might be able to get a pareja de hecho once your partner has her residency or something along those lines
I work as a seller on shopify I have 2 year I reach 100k
How I can apply visa nomad Spain?
Reach out to Balcells Group!
It's an insane amount of taxes and Social Security payments that they want you to pay quarterly and the Social Security monthly up to 500 euros every month. Why is anyone gonna do that if we are literally only going to stay for a year? Honestly, I don't know who's gonna go through all of that hassle.
Were you looking into it?
Very cheap healthcare! Thank you for this information!
You’re welcome
Can't do it if you work for yourself and serve individual clients. You gotta have permission from some kind of boss or have corporate clients. Bear.
Lucky me I have 🇮🇪 🇪🇺 citizen

If I did this, I would have to pay 50% of my income being taxed both in the US and Spain!!
I don’t think so. From my understanding, there is an agreement between Spain and United States that allows you to avoid double taxation.
WHY ONLY NON EUROPEANS!!!!!!
Super Informative! Thank you Patrick!
Really interesting video. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
