If you are applying as self-employed, you'll need to include a signed statement in which you commit to signing up to pay Spanish social security upon a successful application you dont need to provide private health insurance in this case

The average income in Spain is NOWHERE near €2,600 per month. This is the kind of income for the middle class in big cities. Outside those, it's well below €2000 per month & in many areas around €1500. Only 5 years ago, it was around €1000/month & unemployment is still high, which brings the average down even more...

Such great information I could not get from anywhere directly. But one question, I already work remotely for a US company in the UK and have dual UK/US citizenship. Does the company letter saying I can work remotely have to actually say “can work remotely in Spain” or just work remotely, as this might complicate things.

I’m confused. Will you be paying taxes in both your home country and in Spain? I’m from the US. I’m paying 25-30% here. If I’m also paying the 24% from Spain it would make me lose a lot of income.

a quick google shows the US has a tax treaty with Spain since 1991, so you won't be paying taxes twice, but you may want to look at that but also contact a lawyer

With Spain's digital nomad visa, your company must be involved in the process as they will be responsible for either paying into Spain's social security or providing a social security certificate. This can be very complicated for employees trying to relocate to Spain. We've found it's much easier for freelancers. Many applicants change their roles from employee to freelancer to apply for this visa.

While it is easier to apply as a freelancer, you can still apply as an employee. You will need to obtain a certificate of coverage from your employer certifying they cover the social security in the US. This is a complicated topic that we definitely recommend speaking to an immigration lawyer about

You only need to prove that you've been a remote worker in general for 1 year. not that you've held the position for 1 year. you only need to show 3 months of work history at a place.
