This video made me realize that despite the grim / gloomy tone of pretty much all of Phoebe's work and even this specific song, lyrically this song is very positive. Kind of about realizing that you have a lot to live for even if you didn't before. Especially heartwarming in the context of Phoebe's earlier work, too, as the bad times that are behind her in this song are the same ones she described in previous songs.
It's 'emotional' , but I wouldn't say there's anything 'grim' or 'gloomy' about it ... She's using money chord progressions which are typical of lots of radio hits. It's not a bad thing .. but come on. This is pop music.
Phoebie's music gave me hope and joy when my life spiralled out of control. I had to leave my boyfriend because the abuse got too bad. The 31st of may ( yesterday) was my year anniversary of leaving him. And without her music I wouldn't have had the strength to not go back. Thank u phoebie x
I also left an abusive relationship 3 years ago with the help of phoebe's first album! so glad to see that her music has brought comfort to other people in similar situations. wishing you much love and healing one year later :)

She has a soul as old as when the blues was first sung in some bayou on the Mississippi. I adore this human being. Secondly, some of her songs has me asking, "Who HURT you? Can I help? Can I make it any better?" I just wanted to be that uncle, that old pops, and give her a hug and say that, "It's gonna be ok." Much in the same way that I will hug my daughter whenever someone breaks her heart, or when she's down, and dejected at the world. Phoebe has a gift that needs to be protected at all costs, because this ol' man is 100% a fan.
