Marauder is WAY more annoying than the Dark Lord. Marauder moves in all directions very, very quickly, and Dark Lord kinda just jaunts around casually. Plus, the Dark Lord’s gimmick works well and isn’t BFG-proof, while the same isn’t true of the Marauder.

@@mr.stuffdoer8483 marauder is less annoying than the dark lord. the marauder doesnt heal if you shoot him while his shield is up, the marauder doesnt heal if he hits you. marauder is never put in arenas that are just lazy marauder encounters usually have more thought put in, plus the marauder isnt a big bullet sponge

In one of his streams Hugo said that Riot Soldiers aren't supposed to actually be Chaingunners, but just an homage to them. He also admitted that the nods to the Chaingunner in the Riot Soldier's design was a bad call on his part

Ikr I personally found 2s better but personally love all the music for all of them
I thought 1's music was just "good enough" by DOOM standards, while 2's music was actually great but still not up to Mick Gordon levels. Immora's soundtrack was pretty close to Gordon, though, and definitely the best in 2.
Although I think the best song in TAG, by far, was Trial of Maligog. I think that song could almost compete with Mick Gordon, and gives me a lot of faith in Levy for future DOOM soundtracks.
Agreed, that reclaimed earth guitar riff is soo good
I love all the part 1 music, but I see what he means about part 2 having riffs with melodies over top of them like Mick's base game songs.
Still, I kinda feel like the Blood Swamps can get away with being only a guitar riff for its main chorus, compared to the rest of the song being crazy choiry synthy stuff. It feels fitting for that level, like how Rip & Tear for 2016's Necropolis was mostly thrash.
If I had to choose between 2 and 1, I'd choose 2. But Blood Swamps is still my favourite track
The Energy Shield vs. Stone Imps thing can be done again if you block your connection for the games servers, or just disconnect from the internet while starting Doom Eternal. The patch was server side, not client side, as it was seemingly an accidental fix based on something they changed for Battlemode.

Obviously because the machine was too scared of Doomguy to not give him powers. All the divinity machine did was make demons drop multicolored loot when he shoots them, everything else was already there.
29:36 theory: i think the gate that the doom slayer went through isn't just one portal, well it is, but since its way more powerful than a regular portal. maybe it could be more of a activated hot spot of a portal, were when activated, it can share power with other sentinel portals, and since the sentinels knew what the doom slayer was doing, they were just waiting the the doom slayer to power the gate with the crystal. or they could have made their own, im sure other sentinels were considered worthy and posses their own crystals.
I don't think Immora was meant to imply "Immortal." More likely, it was meant to be "Immoral," since it's the capital of Hell and all.
I think it works as both, Davoth's goal to make his creations Immortal through Immoral corruption

I really like your reviewing style, talking about the story, music, gameplay, controversies etc. Most youtube reviewers seem to shrug at the music and story side and just focus on the gameplay when talking about the game, and I appreciate a more spherical approach.

I’m just going to say this. I personally think that the “NO” said by the slayer at the end might have carried more weight if he hadn’t spoken in the flashbacks of the base game. Still a really cool scene tho.

My head canon for the flinch at the start is Davoth has never actually tried to kill anyone in the luminarium so he doesn’t know if he actually can break the rule he set.
Therefore he didn’t know if the doom guy (his clone with a piece of his own divinity IMO) could actually break the rule.

I just wanted it to have that 'oh shit' difficulty of TAG1. TAG1 had a lot of those 'gotcha' near sadistic arenas and challenges, and I wanted more of that. I think the master levels from modders plus a nerf to the hammer (hammer with no upgrades is perfect, upgrades make it broke) could bring it to that position. As well as a few modifications to the new enemies (green prowlers could be scaled up in size to distinguish them).
I have a theory on how valen and all the night sentinels were able to get to Immora, and that is due to the itern locking in on the doom slayer's position, and opening portals or at least the coordinates for the night sentinels.
Fun fact: the World Spear Master Level _has_ an armored spirit Baron somewhere at the start! And it does not screw up his weak spot. It just strips his armor without stunning him! X)

I don't know why people complaining about Unmaker. I have a clear understanding when I have to use BFG on open areas and when I can switch to Unmaker to clear corridors and area with obstacle where BFG shot can be a waste of ammo.
Can we just appreciate how beautiful the underwater metro/train system is like the vines nad the grass everywhere it just looks majestic
I had this theory that in the Codex, Davoth looks like the Slayer because the "things larger than them" made the Dark Lords physical form to fore tell of a greater force than Davoth himself. It might not make sense but oh well.

Nothing would please me more than to see a video breaking down Davoth's theme and all the musical references. Hulshult did some masterful fucking work there, and I love it.

fun fact, the chaingun shield nerf on the stone imps is actually not an update, but a server thing. if you block the connection the server won't be able to update allowing you to gib them again on current patch. also, the microwave beam negating the blood maykers shield actually happens when you make them ground pound from getting close enough while the beam is active. it just makes them stop what they're doing and do the funi attack. in that case, what they were in the middle of doing is getting their shield back. very cool, i haven't done it enough to knwo if its entirely consistent, but cool bug
edit: this is actually the first time i got to really appreciate the music, its actually so much better then i thought it was when i played the dlc. it felt kinda quiet in game to be honest

I'm almost a hundred percent sure that Samur reversed the polarity of the Divinity Machine based on Davoth's influence, and that's why Doomguy survived the Machine's transformation.
Fun Fact: The Swimming Section in the Reclaimed Earth is actually the metro station in Hell on Earth where you get the second weapon mod and greanade launcher

Okay, here me out. The beginning of doom 2016 starts with the slayer in a coffin like the one he was sealed away in at the end of ancient gods two. And we mentioned time travel, so what if the slayer traveled back in time when he was fighting the dark lord, got sealed away, and reawakened in 2016 to fight all over again. This would truly make his fight “eternal”
No that won’t work because I’m 2016 they said they found him in hell inside a temple where as this is not even in hell and the only way of getting to that place is by going thru a trial.

Dude, fantastic explanations of Doom lore and amazingly fun videos all round. I watched both part one and 2 almost entirely back to back and I had a ton of fun doing so. So glad these 2 videos of yours are emy introduction to you and your channel. I was initially a bit iffy about the nearly hour long videos but 15 minutes into each one I ended up not giving a crap lol. Definitely gonna watch more of your videos. I found out more here than I did skim reading the codex entries. Thank you for such an awesome video and the fun nearly 2 hours I had watching them 😂
