    Promise, I'm not a boomer, but have some advice for you and your viewers.
    Firstly, it's great to see so many channels now showing what fishing can be had in the Swan and Canning Rivers. It's always been a fantastic fishery, but strangely unknown to many locally. I have been fishing the Swan and Canning Rivers since 1971.
    There's no negativity here, just some observations to help out:
    - the first spot you fished is not likely to hold flathead or flounder. These are sight feeders - the water is too dirty and probably brackish for them. It's def bream water, as you showed. Flathead or flounder do not like any kind of brackish water (in Perth at least). It is also likely too shallow in general, although flathead do feed in very shallow water if it's clear and quiet, especially at night.
    - your retrieve for flathead at the first spot isn't likely to work well (on flathead), just from experience. Need to have a pause, hit the bottom, that's what makes the difference. For bream, sure, you have that under control.
    - the second spot - rather than fish near the boat ramp, head way north of where you were, along the spit, casting on either side, while wading as deep as you can. We have been absolutely slaying the flatties in the past couple of months in that area, with 12 flathead and at least one flounder every trip, plus random catches of pink snapper, tailor and herring. One trip we caught 60 fish - 40 plus flathead in one session in December 2024 when the water was very clear. We are in a boat though, which does help move spots - although all the fishing theory is the same.
    - Cast and move, always be moving along the fishing spot to cover more water. I don't know if you were doing this, but it helps to cover more water. We cast over an area once, then move, if there's a flattie there, it will show itself usually. You can come back to a location you have fished after an hour or so, because new flatties will move into that location.
    - Flounder like deeper water. We have been catching a lot lately, but almost always over 3m depth. Most at 5m or more. It's difficult to get at these depths on foot I know, but there are spots like that available, which I won't be sharing here.
    - I use 1/4Oz jig heads generally, mostly because of the water depth we are fishing, but have jig heads down to 1/20 oz. We also fish to 10-11m depth using a 3/8Oz jig head.
    - I use bucktail jigs exclusively for flathead and flounder. I CBF with soft plastics, as the jigs will catch as well, if not better anyway. Plus, it's a lot cheaper to run jigs, which I tie myself. The only colour I use lately is Chartreuse. They are extremely effective.
    - lastly, fish drop-offs. We target drop-offs exclusively. The drop-off depth is generally about 1.5m dropping into 6m + and fish the entire depth all the way around. 90% of fish will come from the 2-4m depth.
    - contact me to arrange a boat session, then you'll really see some flathead action.
    I also run Crocs, best fishing shoes ever made 🙂

    You might already know this - But i'm pretty sure theres some 'flashback' feature on the GoPro
    ie. when you click record, it automatically saves 30 seconds from BEFORE you clicked the record button
    Helps for capturing hookups! Not sure how it would affect overheating.

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah man ive tried it before but i dont actually have the gopro on if im just fishing when its slow i have it turned completely off to conserve batteries. I hate changing them out. Once the gopro overheats i will let it cool down and of course while im waiting for it to cool down i get a hook up 🤦‍♂️

    Nice video mate except for the over heating gopro, must be pretty frustrating for you. If you want to see what a DJI camera can do go have a look at robbie fishing here on youtube as he uses one and he fishes around Wangaratta in Victoria where it gets very hot and I dont think I have seen a video where his camera has overheated, Cheers.

    if this helps I find when fishing for flathead at the swan a slower retrieve with long pauses and twitches catches fish more consistently

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah we did try that a few times but i think it must have just been a slow day. My mate got that big flathead burning in a stickbait for giant herring surprisingly

    You should invest in some traditional German clogs Kook. They're comfortable, durable and water resistant. So many benefits, mind you ya will have to take them to the cobbler once in a while to get them reclogged as they can come unclogged over time with use.

      @@kookfishin Haha I only just recently got my first pair of crocs and honestly I don't know why I didn't get a pair years ago. I rarely take em off, even wear em to the pub haha. Although one downside is they tend to fling off my feet when I get stuck in that sticky algae covered sand while wading in estuaries haha.

      Would like to inform you that the spot in question in fact is not a marine park, it is a general use zone (involves line fishing, crabbing, prawning and mussel collection). You can find this information on the Recfish West App made by the Western Australian Fisheries.
      If you’d like to continue this conversation I strongly advise you to do some research before commenting on TH-cam videos that have been made for viewers enjoyment.
