You got the lot on this clip Amanda....Apart from wonderful happy music, this video has the lot..... vaudeville dancing, aggressive tiny dog, inquisitive pigeon, bicycle street vendor, motorized pedestrian and a bearded giant to end the show. I wish I’d been there.
That´s a great dancer doing the Charleston. Thank heaven´s there are people keeping the best music in the world alive. I grew up in London in the 50´s and spent many, many Saturday nights in the basements of all kinds of establishments, listening to Trad. Jazz!!!
I know this is 6 years late, but the band is an early Loosemarbles line up, and the dancer is Amy Johnson. Looks like they are playing on the corner of Royal Street and Conti.
Quel regal cet orchestre ,c est de la vraie musique et felicitation pour la danseuse,le tout est tout simplement sublime, merci pour ces quelques minutes de bonheur...
Owesome, wow!!! great musicians and great dancer too. It is quite hard for some people to travel, but this kind of videos allow us to be there. Thank you for sharing.
i thought i was replying to a question asked 2 years ago. I don't understand why the answer didn't go with the question. Doesn't matter. Great vid and now the title is finally named.
i want shoes like hers :-o Amazing dancer, great band, lovely city, they play music everytime, everywhere, party all the time! I highly recomend visit New Orleans.
The band is the legendary Loose Marbles playing "Smile" and the great dancer is Amy Johnson. That very cool clarinet is Michael Magro, co founder of the Loose Marbles with Ben Polcer who's playing that amazing piano. Ben usually plays the trumpet, but he's equally good on both. The pigeon is sitting in with them because..... just because. But that bird's got rhythm !!!
Thanks so much for the info. . . I am an Englishman and will be visiting New Orleans as part of a trip to the States, only hope that I find something as wonderfully impromptu as this. - Great band and I have never seen anybody dance the Charleston (solo or otherwise) as well as Amy, my Dad had a mean go though. - The pigeon, I reckon he was just a talented lookout - All the best
This is a common site on Royal St. (Rue Royal) during the weekends. I used to take the streetcar to Canal St. from my home, walk about the Quarter and "waste" time. The food and music are unsurpassed!
@Platschheimer Yes, it hurts so good! I've seen them playing "music" for awhile in NOLA and they're teriffic. Always makes my day when they're playing in the Quarter.
complimenti a tutti ma sopratuto alla balerina !!!! e BRAVISSIMA!!!!!! SONO STATO ANCHIO A NEW ORLEANS NEL 2005 /2006 E STATO BELLISSIMO CIAO!!! ( GERRY- ITALY- MILANO ) CIAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
to Hesommer1: Why do think there is a tape involved? I can't figure out and am very curious about what you might be hearing/seeing. I realize the clarinet player is hardly visible, but he is in middle, back to back with the pianist ( real piano with a wheeled platform by the way - not a portable keyboard) and mostly obscured by the banjoist. At 0:37 or so , you can see the clarinet. At other times you can see part of his head. I was there -- there is no tape.
Who would have ever thought we'd need this so much in the future.
New Orleans has so much talent! These guys are no exception, absolutely amazing!
I miss my good ol times in new orleans! Wish I was down there right now

The tune is "SMILES", written by Lee Roberts and J. Will Callahan in 1918. A good number for jazz bands to 'jam'!
I know this is 6 years late, but the band is an early Loosemarbles line up, and the dancer is Amy Johnson. Looks like they are playing on the corner of Royal Street and Conti.
