I went to a lot of concerts in the 70's but when J. Geils Band hit the stage it was an all night party!
Especially with the Allman Brothers.

Got pumped up 24 hours before the concert and stayed pumped 24 hours after!! Non stop dance party through the whole concert! What a gas! Best party band ever!!
Saw these guys for the first time in 1971 I was 12 years old then I went on to see him about 35 times in the next seven years and more after that then I promoted their solo stuff. Got to meet them a lot of them one of the best bands ever, certainly the best live band🎶🎶🎶. Finally them in Detroit in 1999. Peter got me tickets!! Wow!!

I had the privilege of being a teen rock fan in Boston in the 70;s. saw J Geils about ten times. They were the house band at the Boston tea Party. They were TIGHT. My memory fails me a bit but they opened for every touring band at the time and I saw them before The Band, Elton John, The Small faces, james gang, Mott the Hoople and - I cant remember who else. J geils first two albums reflect that era. Both fantastic. The band fell apart because Peter Wolf wanted to hang out with The Stones instead of doing his job. potentially that cost them 100 million as they were perfectly placed to become the next Stones. They would have replaced Wolf if they could have but it wasn't feasible.
All the bands from this era and time. J Geils is one of my top listened bands even today.
This band/mid- seventies/ usually @ Cobo Hall/DESTROYED DETROIT EVERY TIME THEY HIT THE STAGE. In their prime, Peter's soul and frenetic non-stop MADDNESS was entirely TOO MUCH! THE KIDS RUSHED THE STAGE AT THE FIRST SOUND OUT OF A SPEAKER, AND REMAINED WELL PAST THE END OF ALL THE SETS. Security knew to stand back and let complete chaos ensue. NOBODY GOT HURT, AND THE PASSION WAS SHIT ALL OVER THE STADIUM. It was like watching Mighty Joe Young sweating bullets on everybody and everything! It was the true epitome of what a rock and roll band was truly ALL ABOUT!!!!! (And now, we take you back to a previously recorded life.)
I saw them 3 times during mid seventies , I'm from just south of Boston, they were my first shows.
Hardly any audience participation, unlike the version on 'Full House'.
I guess Detroit just knows how to show its appreciation.

detroit knows how to do lots of things but i guess voting democrats out of office is not one of them.. peter said ain't no party like a detroit party but he was not talking politically lol...

" .....J. Geils goes Surfing".....a little dig at the Beach Boys being on the final bill with all legendary BLUES ROCKERS!!!! At least it appears that way to me. It was Pop Music vs The Alternative Rock of the Filmore counter culture audience. Even the Marquee Bill out front looks a bit odd in retrospect.
Maybe so. When I heard Peter Wolf's ad lib, I thought of "First I Look At The Purse"'s original Motown release in 1965 and the trend of white pop bands to feature in movies back then.
@@Playbyplaymedia Mr. Play, if you can ever get the pleasure and privilege of watching a VERY OBSCURE semi quasi "documentary" about the J Geils Band, called "Postcards", filmed by Seth Justman's brother Paul, and I think made for Ted Turner's late 70's early 80's Cable channel.....in it, Peter Wolf deliberately mentions sarcastically, the Beach Boys and the 4 Seasons by INNUENDO. He was putting them down as( At that Time in history--1973/74) the J Geils Band was avant garde alternative Rock, and way outside of the dominant AM controlled POP radio culture.

Great song but a bit too fast.
The original studio recording is way slower and has a different feel. Live performances generally call for higher energy tempos.
Ok Grandpa. Get a hold of ABBA they might do a slow version for you.
