Peter Wolf Reminisces On His Early Boston Days

  • He has performed all over the world, with artists from Aretha Franklin and Merle Haggard, to Mick Jagger and Van Morrison - but he always finds his way back to Massachusetts. Before he was the frontman for the J. Geils Band-turned-chart-topping solo artist, Peter Wolf was Woofa Goofa - the "all night" DJ at Boston's legendary rock station, WBCN. Jim Braude was joined by Peter Wolf, ahead of a special New Years Eve show at the Cabot theater in Beverly.

I went to at least 6 J Geils shows at Boston Garden back in the 70's. There was general admission so everybody had a chance to be in the front row closest to the stage. We held up lighters instead of cell phones. Great rock and roll bands from Boston then. You could see Peter Wolf at Boston rock clubs or just walking down Newbury Street or in Kenmore Square. Four solid hours of music. 8:00 to ten, half an hour break, then continued until the fire marshall sut down the show at 12:30.
