      Slicks will cushion the launch. It’s radials and wheel hop you need to be careful with

  • @cerevo
    @cerevo ปีที่แล้ว +21

    You needed thosedrag radials man, warm them up, usually you don't want to warm up street tires, they get greasy. Lower the pressure, and soften the damping on the rear struts if you can. Maybe even lower the rebound on the front struts to allow the weight to transfer better. Might be good to raise the whole car up some so the rear has some travel to squat with.

    alot of the traction issues are suspension related. Slicks obviously help but without suspension separation its just going to spin and spin. but this is what test and tunes are for!

    Excited to see how the slicks do. I would recommend spinning and launching above the torque peak at first then dropping the launch rpm till you spin just a little bit off the line. Its better for the drivetrain to spin just a little than to dead hook or bog, although a dead hook certainly feels awesome. If you watch my Scion tc run, you can hear the slicks spin then hook up. Good luck!

    I'm currently helping my friend throw in his Texas speed LSX in his miata. We're on wiring right now and mocking up the turbo kit as well. Big single, t56, on E85. He's shooting for 600-700whp once we get it all done. It's on slicks as well when he had a big turbo built 1.8.

    Definitely still an awesome video. Would've been even more awesome if you had the grip, but still really nice video. I'll definitely be looking forward to the runs you'll get with the slicks. You and that car really rock.🤘🤘

  • @TOMONAGE

    Set your suspension up right those hoosier dr2's will do the job. Those are what I run. I run a little positive camber at rest and tire pressure about 13-14 psi plus or minus a bit as needed. Once you make some passes you can look at the pattern on the tires to see what you need to adjust. You can also add some weight if needed to the most rearward part of the trunk or make a mount for weight bars behind your rear bumper cover that you can access from underneath.. Uphill battle drag racing a manual car though.

    its not bad that you're spinning. worst decision i made was to test some radials out at 330hp and i broke 2nd gear. sometimes spinning does save parts :)

  • @sonofthehill1320
    @sonofthehill1320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I still challenge you and will put you in my guest room for a few days. I have to say, at Sacramento I was spinning every gear, not quite as bad. You did an excellent job keeping it pointed in the right direction! To do a proper burnout without a line lock. I grab my brake pedal with my left foot just after the tires are spinning. Just enough pressure to keep the car from moving sideways. It takes a little practice but you'll get the hang of it.

  • @cooperturbo4598
    @cooperturbo4598 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You didn’t mention your tire pressures which probably can hurt really bad with spinning.
    Also, the height of the car allows for some mass transfer (or not) so I am pretty there is traction to be gained in the stance of your car.
    Anyway, always a pleasure to watch your videos and appreciate your state of mind (compete and analyze) 😅

    Perhaps a stickier tyre for the rear and a real good burnout.

  • @GapMiata
    @GapMiata ปีที่แล้ว

    The big thing is you have roll in the water pit, and go f3ft foward the heat up the tires. Right not you are running with wet tires. I used to do this with my slicks and then got my 60' down from 2.1 to 1.7.
    Stock motor 14psi btw ran low 8 in the 1/8 mile

  • @mattcoombes3254
    @mattcoombes3254 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm currently doing a forged build, will be going for somewhere between 350 - 400bhp. Do you run any sort of retro fitted traction control or do you just use good throttle managment? I'm currently using a ME442 ecu so will probably be sticking to that for now, although the EMU ecu's have a cut traction function of some sort that may be a better option.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What I've done since this video is set up my boost by gear MUCH better. I had a 14psi spring in the wastegate which was way too much. I've also set up boost by TPS, so even in the high gears, light throttle will only produce low boost. On 350whp+ Miatas, it's essential for drivability. With a heavy spring and no boost by TPS, this engine hits full boost at only 25-30% throttle in the midrange RPM. Sounds cool on paper, but when I apply 30% throttle, I want 30% power
      But to answer your question, no traction control because I haven't put in front wheel speed sensors, and this car has none from factory.

    • @mattcoombes3254
      @mattcoombes3254 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCarPassionChannel Ahh okay. I've got mine set up currently with boost by TPS so I will have a look into adding boost by gear before the new engine goes in then instead of a retro fitted traction setup.
      Thanks.
