- If you've succumbed to the temptations of Android - or even Windows Phone or BlackBerry - there are some steps you need to take to make sure the iPhone friends you leave behind can still reach you. iMessage works by routing iPhone to iPhone messages through Apple's servers instead of sending them as actual text messages. Unfortunately, unless you tell it to stop doing this, iMessage has no way of knowing you've left, at least until it times out after a couple weeks, and that's beyond frustrating. Luckily, deactivating it is easy. Here's how!

I love this video because it mentions something crucial. Doing it early! Also shows you how to check before you even get the new phone! Such good video for this type of problem. Usually people do it the day they swap phones and is a big mess.

It is. Just got the 7T yesterday and my iPhone was still getting messages. This did the trick and messages are coming through

Nerd Idk if this is too late or not, but you have to turn BOTH iMessage and FaceTime off on ALL of your Apple products to start getting the messages on your Android phone

I was using my old iPhone for a while because of this issue. I would text someone on my android and if they had an iPhone that reply would go to my old iPhone. So I had to double fist for a while until I did this. So thanks. The reason I kept my old iPhone was for the gym and it’s situations where if it got messed up I wouldn’t care.

Hello Rene i watch you all the time on Twit Tv i have the same thing but i went from android to the IPhone 6S Plus. i can send my wife a text message from the iphone but when she sends She has a ( Andriod Phone Moto G6 ) a reply back it keeps coming on my old andriod phone that has NO Sim card in it how can that be Fixed Thank You Very Much ;-)

You have to de register your actual phone number, not just turn iMessage off on your phone. Doing that only turns it off on the phone itself, the iMessages are still being sent to your account

Turn off: iMessage, FaceTime AND Find my iPhone. It worked for me. Good luck.
Hello Nathan, correct. I am still having the same issue, I feel the problem is if you belong to a group. For example, when you had the iPhone, you were in a group with other iPhone users and android users. The person needs to delete the group thread from their phone and start again. This is the solution but it is a terrible one.
Stupid system. Surely Apple know the imessage delivery is failing, why can't they automatically fallback to text? Smacks of trying to lock user in to their platform.
