    Got the f7 out of the barn. The carburetor is missing all the guts. And the carb cover is missing too. I guess it is time to make a bootleg skunk works engineering external intake and find a bigger carb. I just found and saved a bunch of your rotary intake videos. I found your website while looking up skunkworks out of destin Florida. I saw the intake in a clymers guide. Thanks for posting all your knowledge online.

    Hey junkman love the videos you have helped me a ton on my rebuild! Do you know the thread size or what nut is needed for the stator/magneto bolt?

    So I’ve got a 70 for 350 paid hard I’m doing a flat track style mod I was wondering can you help me leave me in the direction of 6 to 12 V conversions and or any information on the wiring harness? I can’t find so I can eliminate some wiring from the bike. Thanks for your help Tom San Diego.

      If you are doing flat track, you don't need 12v or even a battery. If your exciter and signal coils are shot there is the VAPE ignition system that is nearly bolt in for a replacement. It also contains a lighter flywheel if that's what you're after. As farcas wiring. You only need the Red/White, Blue, Black from the magneto to the CDI box (blue turns into yellow at the connector). The Green/White to the HT coil. Wire the kill switch with the Green/White through the switch to ground.

    I have a 1970 f5 bighorn with a broken carb casing where the choke cable goes into it and so the cable will not stay seated anymore. Any idea where I could find another carb or a possible different replacement?

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but no. Ebay will be your only bet. It's a specialized carb to fit there. The F9 will fit but it's a different size and not correct.

    Great video's. I'm doing my '71 F5 now. Watched your video on the rotary valve but you skipped the step on getting the oil pump gear off. I need this info. Left hand thread? Having a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

      +KawiH2A it is right habd thread. Requires a special socket for the F5/F9

    the coils worst case scenario > diy rewindable (?) using clear coated copper (magnet) wire of the appropriate length and/or gauge to come up with the factory spec ohms resistance, [also some electrical spec isolating /insulating paper and non conducting, heat resistant adhesives / sealants]...similar to rewinding a small electric fan motor. id like to add a pair of desert beams onto an xrl (cheesiest headlamp ever for going down the road at night...)and so to get more wattage out of the stock system with a voltage regulated and rectified battery...concur? thnx amigo

      +redd aguaras Thanks. I get most stuff off ebay, sometimes a junkyard but ebay is where you will find most obsolete parts now a days.

    I have an F7 and it only makes power between 4 and 5.5k. Could it be the CDI? Any suggestions?

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dylan Tindall Not likely. CDI's usually either work or they don't. Is the idle erratic? Does it run erratically all throughout the rpm range? It is a fuel delivery problem and or possibly an air leak in the crankcase as there are multiple places that it can happen on rotary valve engines.

    • @McDylanNuggets
      @McDylanNuggets 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      thejunkman It idles fine at about 1500. It also only wants to rev up under about 85% throttle and bogs down above that. We were initially thinking the timing is not adjusting to the rpm and is only correct at a certain rpm range. It also makes a loud pinging noise like possibly nocking only at idle. intake leak could be at the carburetor holder on the inside. We have to put electrical tape on the outside the name the carb seal correctly.

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dylan Tindall 1500 rpm is a little high for idle speed. So you are saying 3/4-WOT it bogs or is doggy? Might need a slightly larger main jet or a jet needle clip position change. Check out my jetting page for more insight on how to tune your carburetor. Link in the description and annotations. www.thejunkmanadv.com/motorcycle-carburetor-jetting.html

    Do you need a battery in this bike to check for spark?

    • @thejunkman

      No.

      @@thejunkman thanks a lot. I just picked up a barn find all original 1970 in very good looking shape and has high compression for $250. I need to figure out the spark though as I don't know much about these bikes and it doesn't appear to have spark, I need to get a manual with the specs for ohm meter readings.
