You are one of the few reviewers I’ve seen that picked up on Geddy singing, playing bass, and keys with hand and feet. Bravo! You should watch him do it all live. No backing tracks, no extra musicians, just the three of them crushing it, 3 hour shows every night. RIP Professor Peart.
So many people seem to miss out the fact that Geddy and Alex are also playing notes with their feet; and Neil triggers samples, too, on the drumkit, when the other two are busy playing guitars, singing, and playing keyboards with their feet! I'm still in awe, nearly 50 years later. 🤷🏼♂️
Best line "No his mind is not for rent, to any God or government." I wish more people today would think for themselves instead of following blindly and not questioning everything.
I got fired from my last job for asking questions about why something was being done. Offered a different strategy. Fired the next day. A week later I stopped in to shop and everything I had suggested was done. The last who fired me always looks at me and in a sad voice says hi. Regrets, not mine.

I am pretty sure they have 178 original songs. They also put out a cover album of 60's rock called Feedback (not counting that in the 178). 20 studio albums counting Feedback.
And we music fans know them all. We know sublime quality & each musician is a master of at least 2 instruments or more. I've been a guitarist for over 40 years & my set up is a black PRS CE24 with moons, & a Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 36 with 2 duel speaker cabs. (A TriAmp A.L is a little too loud for my needs.) My favourite song is a little different to the usual, "We Hold On" from Snakes & Arrows.

yup. Absolutely no question. Other bands had drummers Rush had one the best percussionists in music history. There was simply no one like him. Look on an album cover and just marvel at what Neil used to create his magic drums crotales plywood god knows what else.lol pure genius

Three of the best musicians ever at the top of the game. Individually the best but as a threesome unbeatable which is why they had 40 plus years in the business and still were as inventive until the end. To experience their music as it was released was mind blowing, years ahead of their time and who influenced so many other artists. RIP Neal Peart we miss you
Rush's music is known for having lots of crazy time signature changes. Most people will either love it or hate it, but you can't deny the creativity and sheer talent of this trio!
One of the best thing about this band is what you hear on record, is what you'll hear live in concert!!! They prided themselves on that. And forever, RIP Neil, "Your favorite drummers, favorite drummer" Couldn't be said better!
My Rush story goes like this... Imagine being a 15-year-old kid you've never been to a rock concert before and one of the older guys in the neighborhood asked you if you'd like to go with him and a bunch of other guys to a concert tonight. You beg your mother to go, she lets you... You sit down and you see these three guys perform like nothing you've ever heard before just three of them producing unbelievable amount of energy and beautiful music so talented unbelievably talented... That was the permanent waves tour I was lucky to see them live for the next two tours they toured every album and pretty much produced an album every year.. something I'll never forget and definitely one of my favorite bands
Right on. My intro was the 2112 album. It was the "Signals" tour before I got to see them live. When I listened to 2112 the first time and was reading the album cover and saw 3 dudes making that sound I was hooked for life. I have all their stuff but I don't listen to them very often as it sometimes makes me a little sad. I love music appreciation but my thing is discovering new music and staying" present" with God.
In 1979 went to my first concert ever Rush was the headliner and April Wine opened the show 2 Canadian power house bands, I'm 62 now and still rocking, and that show is still my favorite of all 132 concerts I've attended in my life (34 of those were Rush concerts) I'm sure you'll dig any of their albums and check out April Wine as well you won't be disappointed in them either Rock On 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Yup, just 3 guys. Phenomenal band. You are in for a ride with these guys! The number 2112 is in your future. I’ll go ahead and jump on the bandwagon here with all the commenters suggesting YYZ live in Rio. It’s nuts! For some reason the band had never toured South America in all their years. Until they did. Those fans went bananas! Literally waiting their entire lives to see their favorite band. They thought it might never happen, until it did. They impressed the band big time. Really cool performance in front of an awesome crowd. Yeah, that’s RUSH live.
Nice reaction. As good as the singer/bass/keyboard player and the guitar player are the drummer is by far the most talented of the three. Top 1 or 2 drummers to ever do it and many say the GOAT. He was also the main lyricist for the band.
RIP Neil Peart ,Drummer. His 5 year anniversary is coming up on January 7th. So…..They layered in foot pedals, added double neck guitars, played complex chords, all in an effort to fill out their sound. Listen to the middle 8 of this song with the keyboard riff right before the guitar solo. The keyboard plays that repeat hook, the guitar then joins the hook, then the guitar stops playing the hook, the bass then picks up the hook and plays that melody repeatedly during the guitar solo, or else it would sound empty. Every effort was made to be active and filling the sound in the studio, but to do in a way that didn’t require a fourth person live. That’s because they were best friends and didn’t want anyone else in the band. I saw them 33 times over 43 years. They were a circus up there. Three musicians that were equally skilled in their own right to form something never before seen, and never replicated again.
I genuinely feel sorry for people that don't know about Rush. Their catalog is chalk FULL of greatness. I saw them 3 times "Signals" "Clockwork Angels" and another time in between. This band belongs on MT. Rushmore with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd. They are such professionals and such good guys. RIP Professor sorely missed.
These are 3 musicians that are masters of their craft and individually considered to be some of the finest at their respective instruments. Geddy Lee is the lead singer/bassist/keyboard player; Alex Lifeson is the guitarist; last but certainly not least is Neil Peart (calling him simply a drummer is a disservice) RIP Subdivisions is one of my favorites and Limelight is another of their more well known songs
"Instantly goes on my playlist"... Knew it would... it always does... happens to all of us... first time we heard it... this one is on the *lifetime* playlist 👍😁
One of the few rock bands I got to see live many times as a Canadian. As far as musicians, they are at the top of every list ever made. For 3 guys, they sound like a 7 man band sometimes lol There isn't a drummer on earth that wouldn't put NP top 3 all time. They have enough bangers to put on 2 hour long concerts just hit after hit. You do more rush, I'll be here brother
I was 18 when this came out, there wasn’t anyone who didn’t have Rush blaring outa their cars via a Kenwood tape deck, awwwwww great memories, Rush is still my favorite rock band of that era, absolutely stellar
You don't need that "due to copyrights" overlay when it comes to Rush. They built their following from the ground up and are just happy when people hear and see them, so they don't go after anybody.
Geddy Lee: Vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist Alex Lifeson: Guitarist Neil Peart: Drummer and lyricist Rush was a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1968 that primarily comprised Geddy Lee (vocals, bass guitar, keyboards), Alex Lifeson (guitar) and Neil Peart (drums, percussion). Canadian Royalty. First band I ever saw live (late 1970’s)🤯. RIP Neil Peart (the GOAT of drummers). 3 musicians who sounded as good live. There will never be another Rush. Geddy Lee played bass, keyboard and sang lead (yes he did all 3 live) Alex Lifeson on guitar Neil Peart on percussion and he wrote the bands lyrics. You should watch the video of Peart drum solo live in Germany for their 30th anniversary
Don't forget Geddy is playing the bass line on the foot pedals on the keyboard. Neal is the goat in this. His drumming is out of this world. Rush is from my hometown area. They would record at Metal Works in mississauga and Scarborough Ontario Canada 🇨🇦.
If you keep reacting to Rush, I guarantee your channel will grow fast. Plenty of content to react to from them as well, studio recordings and live. I'd like to suggest a couple songs: Far Cry and Headlong Flight. about 25 and 30 years after Tom Sawyer.
I remember seeing them on the Moving Pictures Tour. I kept looking for the rest of the band!! LOL "There's JUST THREE GUYS!!???"" WHAT THE HELL!!!?? Love it!
The lead singer "Getty Lee" is a renaissance man of Rock & Roll. He does it all, multiple instruments, music; Lyrics and instrumental both, editing tracks and videos! IMHO hes not appreciated and recognized enough!
Watching Geddy Lee play Bass, Keyboards, and sing all at the same time is crazy. One of the best live shows I have been too. Sounds better than the studio versions.
Neil Pearts drum solo live in Frankfurt is and I hate using this word but EPIC. Treat yourself to what is in my opinion the most amazing spectacle you will ever see. Ok,ok I'm biased. I'm from Canada.
Can't wait to see you react to a live performance (where layering wasn't (the) possible. YYZ, La Villa Strangiato, or Xanadu would be good. Speaking of Hip Hop, did you know Flavor Flav is a Rush fan?
Yes, Geddy Lee is front vocal, plus he is the bass and keyboard player... it's easier to tell how they manage it in their live performance videos... this video took many (very many) takes to account for all of Geddy's tracks....
It's gonna be a while before you run out of great songs... if you ever do. Canadian here. Gonna go back and watch your first reaction to these guys. Born in 71 and it didn't take long to get my first albums, then cassettes, then CDs.
Another great 3 man Canadian band - Triumph . They broke out to the rest world after being at US 83 Festival . Suggest "Lay it on the Line" , "Fight the good Fight" or Magic Power
They prided themselves on being able to play their music just like the albums when they were in concert. Just the 3 of them. Each guy does at least 2 things if you count Alex (guitarist) occasionally doing vocals. Neil, the drummer, wrote the lyrics and Geddy (singer/bassist) just does everything else! Also this guy (Neil) is considered by many, many people to be the best drummer in the world. All 3 guys are some of the very best musicians to ever do it.
The drum solo a couple of people here are talking about is from the now famous Frankfurt, Germany show. It’s been blowing minds all across TH-cam for years. Neil was known as The Professor, but I like to call him The Power Octopus. 😁👍
Great reaction!!! You obviously appreciate artistical musicianship. Rush is absolutely the best 3-piece band ever (quite frankly top five best band ever, no matter the members). Pure musicianship and fluid artistry in each of them and their instruments along with the pure chemistry between them. Welcome aboard the Rush Train!!! Now time to venture down the RUSH rabbit hole. I would suggest the songs below to add to your Rush journey and reactions. All of these are absolutely fire!!! Especially all of the LIVE instrumentals with Geddy’s Bass, Alex’s Guitar, and Neil’s percussive artistry. You'll thank me later 🙂 - La Villa Strangiato - Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental - custom "carnival" intro) - original was 1978. Pure musicianship!!! UNMATCHED - best instrumental EVER. - Working Man... Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (original studio version was in 1974)...The pure sight and performance of three men in their upper 50's take control of the stage and perform and play like they were in their 20's. - Xanadu...Live version 1981 Exit Stage Left tour...will leave you speechless from pure musicianship...original was 1977. - YYZ…live from Rio in 2002 (instrumental)…original was 1981 - Best Intro Ever - Live version (R30 tour 2004) - various riffs from their 1970's songs leading into Spirit of Radio - original was 1980 - Closer to the Heart (Live 1998 Different Stages) - original was 1977 - Limelight...studio version - original was 1981. - The Garden (Clockwork Angels tour live) - original was 2012 - Subdivisions...studio version or live version - original was 1982 - Freewill... Live from Snakes and Arrows Tour 2007 - original was 1980 - Fly by Night - original was 1975 - 2112 - original was 1976 - Leave that Thing Alone - Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental) - original was 1993 - Malignant Narcissism (instrumental) and Drum Solo - Live 2008 Snakes and Arrows Tour - original was 2007 - Also...Neil Peart's Drum Solo Live from Frankfurt 2004. He was The Professor...a pure musician and percussionist...not just a "drummer". Be ready to be amazed by not just his hand coordination...but most of all his foot coordination...basically his feet being completely individual in timing from his hands during segments of this performance. He was the master of this technique.
Cliff, great reaction. Trust me, you are just barely scratching the surface of the greatness that is Rush! You are in for a serious journey, my friend! Rock it out, brother! Please do a reaction to a song called "Working Man" but do the live version from 2011! Awesome!
I was 15 years old in 1976 when 2112 first came out. I "rushed" out to get it. It was so unique, like nothing I'd heard before. "Tom Sawyer" was originally released on their 1981 album Moving Pictures. It was inspired by The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, a novel by Mark Twain that all three members of Rush read in school. Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist, identified with the book's themes of independence and rebellion, which were recurring subjects in his lyrics.
The 2112 album....the record companies wanted them to make more "radio-appropriate content"...and, "shorten their songs for radio play-time".....and, 2112 was their ANSWER TO THAT!! The WHOLE ALBUM was like ONE LONG SONG!! LOVE IT!!
Love that you’re checking out RUSH!! My favorite band of all time(along with Tom Macdonald). Introducing: Geddy (like spaghetti) Lee!! Vocals, keyboards, bass Taurus pedals, and one of the best Bass players of all time!! Then there is Alex Lifeson!! Backup vocals, Lead guitar (sometimes he’s the rhythm player..lol) and also Taurus Bass pedals! One of the most underrated guitar players of all time! the there is the GOAT of drumming… the Miestro of percussion… also known as “The Professor” Neil Peart (like ear with a P)!! One of the top 3 drummers ever in the world!! I say 1st, but that’s my opinion! Same 3 members together for over 40 yrs (touring live from 1975-2015) and 20 albums and 1000’s of live shows… (live is always best!). There’s a lot…. And it’s all worth it!! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
Greatest Canadian Progressive Rock "3 man Band" in the Known Universe!! RIP Neal Peart "the Professor on Drums" Life Long RUSH FAN! Hello From Fletchers Lake, Nova Scotia. Canada, Happy New Year!Great Video, Cheers my young friend!😀😂🤨🥶👌👍✌
Rush, we gave the world, the Tragically Hip, we keep for ourselves. Not only were they absolute top end musicians, but all 3 are known as super nice people, RIP Neil Peart.Theis is Canadian Gold.
xanadu livw from Exit stage left.. they dont layer.. they play it all by themself. they even have bass pedal, double neck bass/guitar etc.. this was a recording footage thats why they played separately.. listen them live
MOST. Neil joined after their first album, so every song from the _Rush_ album is by Geddy, Alex, and then-drummer John Rutsey. Then 2112 has _Tears_ by Geddy, and _Something For Nothing_ by Alex. But yes, Neil wrote easily 97% of their lyrics and his lyrics are legendary.
Like a few have said before me. Welcome down the rabbit hole. I'm going on 44 years as a Rush fan. 35 of their concerts, I never left one disappointed. Top notch musicians. Loved by many musicians from different genres. My three favorite people since 1980.
Always one my favorite songs from them. They sound the same if not better live I saw them in concert in the 90s awesome voice and nobody better than the drummer Neil Peart R.I.P. if you can check out Neil Pearts drum solo -Frankfurt live. AMAZING much love ❤❤❤
RUSH is well known for time shifts. The drummer, Neil Peart, is known as the professor. He is the drummers drummer. Can't wait until you react to his drum solo Live in Frankfurt. It is nothing less than mind-blowing.
I had the chance to see these guys live. The guitarist is playing a pedal board synthesizer, the bassist same thing but singing, keyboards and bass. The drummer is mesmerizing live. Rip. This band doesn’t have a genre they are just “Rush”.
Not sure what was in the water up here in Canada in the 70's and 80's but another absolutely brilliant Canadian trio is Triumph.(recommend "Magic Power", "Hold The Line" and "Fight The Good Fight". As for Rush I was shook when I heard "The Trees" for the first time, "Subdivisions" and "Roll The Bones" are great 80's Rush tunes
Another Rush essential: Ghost Rider, live in Rio; deep lyrics based on what happened after Neil's wife and daughter died tragically just over 10 months apart, and he took a break from the band and rode his motorcycle all across North America as he worked to process his grief; the way Geddy's vocals so accurately reflected the feelings he'd expressed in his lyrics is absolutely incredible. Have a beautiful day, and Rush on! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
When the lead singer Getty Lee is playing keyboards he is actually done some technologically savvy stuff to put his bass playing actually through the foot pedals so when they cut to those images of him playing the foot pedals those are actually the base cords from his guitar that he's put through those pedals so he can play bass and play the keyboards at the same time and sing I see him do it in concert 5 times it's amazing
FYI Rush won't give you copright hassles like some artists - their videos have been reviewed a zillion times, played without blurring or even pausing, and they never shut down any of them - more artists should be like this, cuz after all, you're only promoting their work!
You are one of the few reviewers I’ve seen that picked up on Geddy singing, playing bass, and keys with hand and feet. Bravo! You should watch him do it all live. No backing tracks, no extra musicians, just the three of them crushing it, 3 hour shows every night.

Neil was not just a monster drummer, he was also formidable poet

Yup 3 guys Canadian Power Trio. Arguably one of the best drummers to ever do it too.

“Xanadu” live is a must
Live in Montreal version, though.
Canadian Royalty. First band I ever saw live (late 1970’s)🤯. RIP Neil Peart (the GOAT of drummers).
3 musicians who sounded as good live. There will never be another Rush.
Geddy Lee played bass, keyboard and sang lead (yes he did all 3 live)
Alex Lifeson on guitar
Neil Peart on percussion and he wrote the bands lyrics.
You should watch the video of Peart drum solo live in Germany for their 30th anniversary
Always have the lyrics up when listening to Rush. Lyrics are always important in their music.
Xanadu live is what you need next
Yes, the exit stage left version.
“Geddy”
Best bassist ever, right there. You won't find a bassist alive that won't give Rush (Geddy Lee) credit!
🎉My favorite band! Saw them 12 times live in Detroit!! Yep only 3.
I can't believe you didn't acknowledge the awesome drumming by the best rock drummer of all time!
Rush is my favorite band!! ❤
Then Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd!!
Found your channel with your REN reactions 😊
Your reaction brings back memories of my own. I was flabbergasted when I first heard this and instantly dove in to their catalog. What a band!
Try the Xanadu live video from 1981 Exit Stage Left album/video. You will be amazed to see what these three masters can do in a live setting.
Rush was the reason I started playing bass in 1984
I got to see Rush a few decades ago in Dayton, Ohio at Harrah Arena. The cult opened up for them. It was a jam!
You'll thank me later 🙂
- La Villa Strangiato - Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental - custom "carnival" intro) - original was 1978.
- YYZ…live from Rio in 2002 (instrumental)…original was 1981
- Best Intro Ever - Live version (R30 tour 2004) - various riffs from their 1970's songs leading into Spirit of Radio - original was 1980
- Closer to the Heart (Live 1998 Different Stages) - original was 1977
- Limelight...studio version - original was 1981.
- The Garden (Clockwork Angels tour live) - original was 2012
- Subdivisions...studio version or live version - original was 1982
- Freewill... Live from Snakes and Arrows Tour 2007 - original was 1980
- Fly by Night - original was 1975
- 2112 - original was 1976
- Leave that Thing Alone - Live in Cleveland from 2011 Time Machine Tour (Instrumental) - original was 1993
- Malignant Narcissism (instrumental) and Drum Solo - Live 2008 Snakes and Arrows Tour - original was 2007
- Also...Neil Peart's Drum Solo Live from Frankfurt 2004. He was The Professor...a pure musician and percussionist...not just a "drummer". Be ready to be amazed by not just his hand coordination...but most of all his foot coordination...basically his feet being completely individual in timing from his hands during segments of this performance. He was the master of this technique.
Great reaction to a great band ! 🎸
Red Barchetta is a must. Probably one of their best. Or at least I think it is.
Cliff, great reaction. Trust me, you are just barely scratching the surface of the greatness that is Rush! You are in for a serious journey, my friend! Rock it out, brother! Please do a reaction to a song called "Working Man" but do the live version from 2011! Awesome!
Rush to this day are still stunning me with their brilliance. Wish i could see them again with your ears.Peace.
That's 44 years old. The Necromancer is their best jam.
the most talented trio ever
I wish i got to seem them live
One word for the best Rush song. Xanadu!
All 3 are masters at their craft
Yeeeessss!!! Finally you got to Tom Sawyer by RUSH!!! Love this song!! Amazing live!! RIP Neil. Great reaction Cliff!!! 🎶❤️✌🏻
Geddy is the vocalist, bass player and keyboard. You should see him live. It is crazy.
Saw them several time live. Just amazing.
When they do this live geddy plays keyboards with pedals while he plays the bass
Neil the drummer wrote all their lyrics as well.
Your favorite drummers favorite drummer. The GOAT.
@@richardripberger2902 Very true indeed!
Must watch 1981 live "Xanadu", it will blow you away with the time shifts and sounds those 3 men make while making incredible music.
I had the chance to see these guys live. The guitarist is playing a pedal board synthesizer, the bassist same thing but singing, keyboards and bass. The drummer is mesmerizing live. Rip. This band doesn’t have a genre they are just “Rush”.
Tom Sawyer is one of my earliest rock experiences. Sadly, I never got to see them live and regret that. One of the most talented groups ever.
RUSH was a band that sounded just as good live as they did in studio (if not better).
Saw them live in 79-80ish...amazing show!
Man, I’ve been waiting for this!!
YYZ in Rio..nuff said
If you want to see them live and an absolutely CRAZY crowd, check out YYZ live in Rio!
Red Barchetta, YYZ, Limelight, Camera Eye, Vital Signs
One of my favorite shows I saw, now seeing them on 420 probably helped with that 😂
FYI Rush won't give you copright hassles like some artists - their videos have been reviewed a zillion times, played without blurring or even pausing, and they never shut down any of them - more artists should be like this, cuz after all, you're only promoting their work!
The lyrics are pure poetry and social commentary. Simply brilliant!!
There very different in such a Great way!!!!
I won tickets to see Rush when I was 14. Amazing show. Fun fact: I went to the same high school Geddy Lee attended.
Was there at the tour.
Most wonderful psychedelic experience at a live music show.
Easy. Cheers! 🍄🌲🍄💥✨🌈
