What @peterjackson4623 said. A hundred times over. This is what I wrote about them when I reviewed the fantastic documentary that came out on them 'bout a decade back:
"As blown up as they can be on stage or in a fan’s mind while listening, they each come off as a seemingly contradictory Rockstar Everyman. But it seems they’ve always been that way, and they’re that way today. They’d fit in with any group of friends - so long as those friends aren’t a stuffy bunch. In that way they’re like the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers of the progressive rock world. Lighted Stage shows the band as they are: three hard working guys who were talented from the start, fortunate early on, and smart enough to follow that fortune while never looking
back."
These guys are (were) the real deal. Love, love, love them to death :)

They were so detail oriented all the way down to every album cover having a lot of thought put into them. Everything about them was all about quality and maximum effort all the time. A testament to the hard work they put into this band for decades. No one like them.

The video was recorded in Le Studio, a recording studio in Canada. It was several video recordings of them at different times in the recording process. When you see Geddy singing, it's just him alone in the recording booth. The keyboards were recorded separately, which is why you don't see the drummer and guitarist in the same frames as when he's playing keyboard. The guitar solo was likewise recorded separately. When they played this live though, they'd play all those things.

This video was recorded in several takes - with Neal (drums) and Alex (guitar) being recorded along with Geddy on bass - then Geddy separately recorded some of the vocals and the keyboard/synthesizer parts.
That "off beat" is a section written in 7/4 time - you can count out 7 beats in the repeating patterns instead of the much more common 4 (or 8) or 3 (or 6).
The line about getting "high on you" and the "space he invades he gets by on you" are references to Tom's self-reliance - he has nothing to prove to anyone, and thus he is free to enjoy people for who they are without needing any approval or praise from them.

Dang, what do you base your first incorrect statement on?
Buddy Rich would disagree with that, and Neil himself would tell you that Buddy was the ultimate master of the drums back in the day. And he would also tell you that Steve Smith, Tony Williams, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, etc...would blow Neil's ass outa the water on drums. Neil would be the first to tell you this.
      Your 2nd statement is correct.
Lastly, Neil wrote the lyrics. Not the music.

Welcome to Rush! Three master musicians from Toronto, Canada who had a 40 plus year career.
Geddy Lee Vocals, Bass, Keyboards and Pedals
Alex Lifeson Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Mandola, Pedals and later Keyboards
Neil Peart Drums, Percussion and Main Lyrist. Unfortunately Neil Peart passed from brain cancer in January of 2020. He is considered one of the best drummers in rock.
Tom Sawyer is about a person who is a free spirit. Not one that follows the masses but follows his own heart. Rush had issues with their record label early in their career. The label didn't like them producing progressive rock. They wanted three minute radio friendly songs.
Rush did the complete opposite and produced 2112 a twenty minute masterpiece.
It was a huge success and the label never bothered them again. They kept their integrity and they were willing to stop playing music if they couldn't express their creativity. No Diddy vibes here. In fact the opposite.
Three guys who had a true brotherhood. Alex and Geddy have been best friends since they were 13. Both Geddy and Alex have been married to their wives for over 50 years.
Neil went through a great deal of heartache when his 19 year old daughter died in a car accident on her first day of university. Neil's wife passed that same year of cancer. He took a long motorcycle journey through Canada and the U.S ending up stopping in California where he was introduced to Carrie Nutell who became his second wife. They to had a daughter who he was teaching to drum. Unfortunately not long after the band retired Neil developed cancer himself and passed three years later.
    Three very honourable men.
This was filmed at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada It was a state of art recording studio where numerous bands recorded.
    Unfortunately it no longer exists.
    Next up I suggest
Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour
    Cheers 🇨🇦

Nobody disappeared at the end of the video, this was actual footage of their recording sessions doing this song and in a recording studio there are over-dubs done where instrumentals and vocals are recorded separately. What you saw was Geddy laying down the synth tracks and then vocal tracks alone in the studio probably after all three played the core tracks together.

The studio was originally founded by a husband and wife that lived there. For nearly 20 years it was considered one of the best studios in North America. They ran it until they retitred and sold it in 1988. Then it ran under new management for another 15 years, but it fell way behind in technology and was poorly managed. It went out of business in 2003, and fell into utter disrepair over the next decade or so... until it was destroyed by... "a suspicious fire" (ie: someone collected the insured value).

First of all , happy new year to you and yours. Secondly, welcome to the rush, rabbit hole. It is very deep, and the deeper you go, the less you will want to climb out.

This was recorded at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec, not at the band’s crib. At the time one of the best recording studios in the world. David Bowie, the Police and dozen others recorded there. It burned down a few years ago.

You have just witnessed one of the originators of the "Prog-Rock" movement in music. All three are virtuoso's, and incredibly, Neil Peart, the drummer (& percussionist/poet), also wrote about 95% of the lyrics to their music. Three of the most humble, nice people in Rock. Yes, listen to a live version....not much will change.

    Recorded in a professional studio.
They play the tunes the same live. In fact Gaddy will sing, play foot Taurus pedals, or bass at the same time.
The shot in the studio where the drummer is gone is just because after you lay down main tracks, you add keys, solos, vox after...

Did ya notice Getty Lee was singer, bassist and keyboards that's a lot of music from just 3 people. Neil Peart is a phenomena

Try reacting to YYZ also no Diddy in Getty. Lee, the lead singer. Rest in peace, Neil Peart. Greatest drummer of all time in my personal opinion. And they are at their best when they are live. Trust that. And last thing I will say the video you just watched was filmed at true North studios they are Canadian trio. Yes, only three men in that band🎉 Happy New Year!

The drummer is Neal Peart (RIP), widely considered one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. Lesser known fact, he also wrote a huge amount of the music they released including many of their greatest hits.

They're recording different tracks -- at different times. The drummer disappeared because Geddy was laying the keyboard down over the top of the instrumentals.

That's Le Studio, a famous recording studio about 60 miles north of Montreal, Quebec. CANADA ( I need to remind the frenchies it's still part of Canada ! ) A lot of bands recorded there in the 70's through to the 90's, then as computers and home recording developed in the past 30 years, they slowly went out of business, and it is no longer there.

Geddy lee...who was the singer and bass player...was also on the keyboards. He recorded the keyboards after the main session and is why you don't see Neil on the drums in the background. Great reaction, kiddo!
