I had a copyright claim on one of my videos. I had set the privacy to private because it was only to share with family. The video was a recording of my brother in law dancing with his granddaughter at a wedding so obviously there was music in the background. Ridiculous to put a claim on private videos that only someone with a link to the video can see
They do that?! That so dumb, if that’s what TH-cam does then I don’t know if anybody is able to stay safe on the app. I’d rather be on twitter Pinterest

Were you able to fix this copyright issue and successfully share the video with your family? I am currently dealing with the same issue. My video is also on an unlisted link, but the video will not play, youtube "blocked" it.
I used the TH-cam remix options for a short and it gave me a copyright claim. I can’t change the song because it says this is turned off in shorts. I’ve gotten a lot of views on this am a very small channel how can I fix this without loosing the views and watch time ?
I am a beginner creator in my late 50's as well. 1) My first copyright claims were very stressful for me, but I then took that video down immediately, made the changes and try to re-upload which then bounce back with the message: metadata for this video has not been saved. Which means, even after I corrected the issue, TH-cam did not allow me to re-upload immediately. 2) Since then I have made so sure that I use music from the royalty free sites, give accreditation in the description box. I was extremely disappointed to find that the royalty free site I have been using has saved a copyrigt piece of music under a different name and that that particular snippet was not copyright free. That messed up my whole video. 3) Since I am now so very particular to make sure I follow all the correct processes, huge was my surprise that 4 videos that were clean and clear all of a sudden appeared with copyright claims against them after 3 months. The one snippet was a sound effect of waves breaking. Now this left a very bitter taste in my mouth as that means you must continiously go back and check old videos for surprise copyright claims. As a beginner creator I was not prepared to lose my views so I opted to cut those pieces out in TH-cam studio which obviously messed up the quality of those videos in question. I had to take the one video down because not much was left of it because of a classical music piece Adagio that I used. That was mind boggling to me. I do not have the money to pay a monthly subscription to Epidemic Sound at this point. In dollar it is cheap, in South African currency it is expensive. I now make videos without music. I know it elevates the quality of your videos, but it stays a risk. One channel had to take down a whole bunch of videos because the site from which the music came was taken over by a company like Epidemic Sound that all of a sudden became the new licence agreement owners and then all that previously copyright free music all of a sudden was not copyright free anymore. TH-cam should find a way that you can take those videos down without losing your views, edit it outside TH-cam Studio and re-upload it. That would be the ultimate resolution to this mammoth problem.

I generally use copyright-free music but occasionally my videos have copyright music playing and I often leave it in as I feel it's part of the video and the overall desirability of my video is more important than the few cents I'll make from being recently monetized. A good example was I spent a night at the Full Moon party in Koh Phangan in March 2022 and I left in all the original music as that was an important part of the atmosphere. So I get no revenue from that successful video but it would have been sacrilege to remove the original audio. And it seems it's not a strike so no problem to leave a copyright claim unresolved ... it's just that the video creator doesn't get the revenue.
@@kornelijabonert5658, same here. And it's confusing. TH-cam says: "copyright, but it's not a strike. The author has nothing against using his music on TH-cam free". Why they do this?
My very first upload was in 2018. It was an hour long documentary I wrote and directed for Discovery Channel. It was given a copyright strike. (It really took the wind out of my enthusiasm at the time.. being in my mid 50's and just trying to break into the "modern" way of doing things.I really felt like I had broken a law or something.) The piece is 20 years old. The original production company went out of business shortly after the series ended.. I searched for weeks but could not even find out who currently owns this now ancient content. So now I have 3 docs, some of my most high profile work, not available to be seen. :/ Honestly.. I don't give a rats about the $$$.. I would like to have my work out there.. even if only as archival material. That said.. it seems TH-cam has improved it's ability to be contacted . I will try the "creator" chat option. Thanks for your insights into how to deal with this . :)
It would be a unusual for a professional company to not register the work with the US Copyright office, so contact them and ask them if they can determine who the current rights holder of the work is. If there is no change on record, then that would indicate that the company, though no longer in existence, is still the owner. At that point, you would need to find out if the assets of the company were sold to another. Given that this was done for discovery, it may be that discovery holds rights to the work so they may be a better place to start.
@@avaceleste Yes. I got no response at the time but it's entirely possible I didn't follow the correct procedures. I was pretty new to the whole tech era. At that point I had only had my first cellphone for about 6 months. 😂😂
In the old days when TH-cam was just getting going they would mute your entire video automatically if copyright infringement occurred. I lost the entire sound on a few vids back in the day. Irreplaceable material... erased. Its a much improved system these days. Quite fair and well structured.
I'm a new youtuber, and i uploaded my first video and its written copy write claims, gosh being a youtuber is not easy. we need to stay consistent and motivated.🙏
As a music artist, once my songs are released by myself, available on streaming platforms, I am unable to upload them, or portions on my TH-cam channel due to this copyright stuff. Funny because I own the copyright. I also disagree from deleting entire channels of content creators, often after years of hard work. It happened to my daughter over one issue. Why not restrict the channel for periods of time. The greater the error, or by third strike, then the longer the channel restriction for example, 1 to 3 months. It is extreme to simply delete channels that are authentic, not scam, that add value to communities/audiences
Lots of my videos have a copyright claim because I make edits, so it's really hard for an editor to not get a copyright claim. Most of the songs are from really famous songs around the world and I put those songs into my edits.
I'm using pixabay for music, linking audio file and song / artist info to description. I still get copywright claims. It'll be fine for 6 months and then one day I get a copyright claim.
What site do you use for your music? I pay for artlist which says royalty free and no issues at first but days later it will suddenly change to copyright claim. So frustrating!
I’ve also noticed that when you trim the “copyright part” after it’s gone it will tell you another segment that has that claim as well! So it may only say one segment but there may be multiple segments further making it hard to even edit it out without ruining the whole video. A lot of times It’s not just “music” it’s just the actual video being there. I have a video where I’m talking of jeepers creepers and there’s no audio just me talking over certain scenes and it still was copyright claimed and blocked in some territories
Never had one against me but I did use the takedown process in the Copyright tab. No worries there and it did result in the offender removing the video. Great video as usual!
@@PrimalVideohelp me they claim my video for a visit to Disneyland and they say it's the audio when most TH-camrs don't have a licensed what is TH-cam doing
How do you deal with companies who make copyright claims willy nilly? There is no requirement for claimaints to prove that the content is theirs and TH-cam makes it far too easy for anyone to make copyright claims. An example I'm thinking of is a recording of a classical music concert uploaded by the performers and the orchestra they performed with - the entire video was claimed as infringing copyright which is clearly not correct?
I agree as apparently if music is older than 100 years like it is in most Classical Composer cases there is no copyright on that music anymore and if you perform it, there is something that it becomes new content as you put your own spin on it. Can't remember everything in detail, but remember reading up on it. My cousin played a song from the Mary Poppins musical on the piano for me to use because I thought that would side step all these issues and it got a copyright claim. The actually music holds the copyright I guess.
@@VibesCruiseTripswithBlue you must go into TH-cam Studio and replace that music or cut those time stamps out of your videos completely. Or take your video down.
Thanks again for this Justin. I have left comments on various vidz you have posted. You are fast becoming my youtube guru! I trust your opinion and advice implicitly. I have only been a youtube creator since 2020 after retiring from my wedding video business of 25years following the outbreak of the pandemic. I now make local history and factual vlogs about my local area of the North East of England and always struggle when it comes to finding non copyright music as background to my films. I currently have 760 subscribers and make films purely for pleasure Im not sure I want to spoil my enjoyment by getting into the realms of commercial monetisation, but I also dont wish to get a copyright strike either so many thanks for this sound advice.
The timing for this video is perfect because, I uploaded a video 6 days ago that was playing a song in the background as I was going into the donut shop!! I didn't actually use the song per-se but, it was playing as part of my filming and was an important part of the video!! As I uploaded I did get that check like you said, but, it said that it won't affect my channel and it's not a strike against my channel so, I decided to leave it in since it's an early video before my channel is monetized & im able to place ads!!
Are you getting paid for those ads. That would be interesting to know. You can check how much you earn off each video. Normally you won't get paid for those ads on that video and the copyright owner can claim that revenue.
@Sonet Landman The video that the claim showed up in, I won't get paid from however, I could have a sponsored video and have a claim on the video and still get paid so, in this case it really didn't matter🤷🏾♂️
It's ridiculous that TH-cam will say copyright striker claim on your video because somewhere in the background there was two seconds of audio barely audible. And yet there are people constantly uploading music that I'm sure they don't have the right to be playing! And they have millions of views!! TH-cam picks and chooses who they want to go after.
I just made my first dispute for a copyright claim where I just used an instrumental licensed under a label. They won’t consider it a false dispute right away and terminate my channel will they? I just pleaded my case that’s all.

Hello Justin, thanks for sharing this. I would like to ask a question. One of my videos have copyright claims but it says that it doesn't have an impact for the whole video. Shall I need to edit and replace the music or I can just leave it as is since it has no impact for the entire video. Thanks for your reply.
Is it possible to remove the video from your video but not the sound?? I have a video that did incredibly well, I can only remove the entire piece when I just want to remove the visual not the video and sound? The copyright only became an issue multiple months after being uploaded
I have had copyright claims from sources that are suspect such as sources from Russia and ex Russian countries. I tried disputing it as I use sites that are copyright free (or they claim to be). My channel is about London walks and most of the times in tourist areas are street performers which sometimes use copyright melodies, they look they are singing but using the copyright material. Another thing in London are the rickshaws with very high copyright music. Once, I had the claim and I selected changed for youtube music library and it went with a very high sound 😮💨. Now, I prefer to muted or cut the part. Artist should allow to use their music for free as we are promoting them for free.
From what l understand regarding a copyright claim. l have explained that l altered the music with various plugins in my Daw and that l built the tracks and mixed the tracks and then during this disputing description added the fair use section from the copyright law as a continued defense. l guess l will have to wait and see.
Hi Justin. This may be a little out of topic but similar to copyright. I am talking about reused content. TH-cam says that "content that has been uploaded many times by other creators" are not eligible for monetization. What exactly does "uploaded many times" mean? Can't they be monetized even with unique comments from me?

For the past month I have been studying, transcribing, and arranging renaissance music in FL-Studio (my DAW). The goal is to complete 9 pieces by the end of the month. Tonight, I uploaded a version of John Dowland's Frog Galliard. As music from the 16th century is public domain, I shouldn't have had an issue. However, 2 bad players have claimed 'copyright' of a segment of the video. My account isn't monetized, so it's meaningless; but it angers me that anyone can claim ownership. I find it perplexing that 2 entities can claim ownership of the same music. Even if they had a valid claim, one of them would be lying.
I wanna ask I’m going to be doing sports over each players career but will have the video mute which will show clips of college and nfl moments as well as pictures in it will I get any copyright?
I'm so disgusted with youtube. I posted a video that hot taken down because it was the opening of an anime. Understandable right?? No. Videos from random people, of the SAME OPENING, are still up. 11 years old or OLDER. Why me?? Why mine?? It makes no sense, what did thry have against ME?? Some of these strikes by TH-cam are just out there. One of my students is trying to get help with a piece she is working on in school that is music so old it is beyond copyright. She sent me the private link to view her work prior to her final/jury, only to have it copystriked.
I regularly make vlogs of public events or concerts with live music. I always have a press accreditation to be able to make frontstage and backstage recordings as a vlogger. Unfortunately, in recent weeks I have been receiving a copyright claim for every video, both new and old, with live music. That's a shame because live music is essential in a video.
I have a video someone uploaded on their channel (The entire video) captured by cellphone. The video is copyright claimed as the music in it is from a band. Perfectly fine. But the entire video is all my work in it. So how does one go about requesting a removal of this? Does it make things more difficult to do because I have music in my video that is not mine? At the moment I'm thinking a Scheduled 7 Day notice seems like the best option. But if you or anyone can help with some information would be great!

If a record album from the early 1970s has 10 songs on it, and 7 are recognized by TH-cam as being copyrighted, and TH-cam identifies the owner (who is also the author of all 10 songs), but the remaining 3 songs do not have a copyright attached to them. Is it fair to assume that if I use one of those 3 songs as background music in a TH-cam video of mine, that I intend to monetize; that I may not incur a copyright notice from the owner in years to come?

Ridiculous to put a claim on private videos that only someone with a link to the video can see
💯 agree with you. TH-cam is definitely alienating people with their stupid policies.
They do that?! That so dumb, if that’s what TH-cam does then I don’t know if anybody is able to stay safe on the app. I’d rather be on twitter Pinterest
Yup mine too I had no clue the whole music thing is dumb I mean we pay for music got the CD concert footage t-shirts..

I heard that music is b4 1978 it's ok NOPE so my las copyright was 22 seconds of Dean Martin singing IT AMOURÉ THE VID WAS $25 if Italian take out took it down I recently started posting but with no freedom of expression it's a dull day 😢
Were you able to fix this copyright issue and successfully share the video with your family?
Yup mine too I had no clue the whole music thing is dumb I mean we pay for music got the CD concert footage t-shirts posters etc we have paid already it's free on radio

I don't know why but sometimes even if I'm using copyright-free music or video, youtube still says I have a copyright issue. Do you know maybe why?
@@kornelijabonert5658 thank you.

I remember the muting of some videos I would think it was my device malfunctioning
Oh little longer of my videos really get copyrighted
We have a same problem
do you know how to get rid of it? or do you just leave it?
Nah fr I made 4 TH-cam edits but I cant post them bc of copyright claims
@@okay610 i just leave it because i don’t know how to fix it. i usually edit the sound so its not copyrighted or make changes to the audio and repost.
same with my montages and transitoim
When I started my channel, I made a point to use copyright free music, sound effects, and b-roll. No issues so far.

Love that TH-cam are making it easier! I have had claims but no copyright strikes.

Thanks for sharing your experience! 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
@@Leada1ne wow, thanks for that. I did not know that, but I also saw somewhere, that TH-cam puts a soft ban on such videos.

My older video's are being claimed and partially blocked left and right by claimants who do not have the rights to the music

At the moment I'm thinking a Scheduled 7 Day notice seems like the best option.
But if you or anyone can help with some information would be great!
Hi..yea i have a copy right claim some of my videos now..yeah the email said it did not affect my channel but what will happen then?thanks
Hey, if it's not affecting your channel you don't need to do anything about it, just know that you may not be monetized for that content.

I use Creative Commons licensed music on some of my videos. I had someone put a claim on my video for a song that wasn't even theirs. They had done a remix of the song and claimed copyright over it. They had broken the CC license in doing so. I wrote them a response, letting them know they were in violation of the license and had illegally copyrighted the song. They swiftly dropped the claim.
I uploaded a video and it says no sauces found and now a few weeks later it says copyright claim
Can it be copyrighted even if you copyrighted the video you uploaded to the owner but you add something ? And how do you know if it's a copyright claim or a copyright strike?
2:46 is the scene.
I make edits from Bluey and sometimes the short gets copyrighted (claim) and it's really annoying especially cause it takes like 3 or more hours to make an edit that ranges from 10 seconds to 1 minute. Can anyone help me?
How do you know what is the issue especially if you didn't use anybody else's content but your own ? Can you get copyrighted for using an instrumental ?
You can still encounter copyright issues even with original content if you're using copyrighted material like an instrumental. It's always best to double-check the copyright status or seek permission before using any material. - Hazel, PV Team
I got a copyright strike on my channel and i really wish to recover my channel....back ..what can i do 0:43
If a record album from the early 1970s has 10 songs on it, and 7 are recognized by TH-cam as being copyrighted, and TH-cam identifies the owner (who is also the author of all 10 songs), but the remaining 3 songs do not have a copyright attached to them.
Is it fair to assume that if I use one of those 3 songs as background music in a TH-cam video of mine, that I intend to monetize; that I may not incur a copyright notice from the owner in years to come?
I can't believe how many people are copying 100% of your video and just uploading it as is, with no changes. That creates so much extra work for you getting them taken in down.
You hit a topic I been looking for. How do I change bit up and do a Reaction to it with out a copy strike
Justin, Hi there ! I wrote and copywrote (spelling?) a book in 2015. The subject was on GUITAR CHORDS. At this time, I'm starting to see similar books appear with my style of writing and presentation. Who do I contact to inquire about my protection?
I DL some relaxational music from one of my sources that says this music can be used for content creation and is open source. I got a content ID claim against just a few minutes of my video even though the entire sound track is unbroken and as far as I can tell the same thing. It is very frustrating to pull music or video from a paid site that claims to allow public use of pictures, music or videos and get gigged by YT for content ID claim where due diligence was used.
I was making a titanic sleeping sun video but it got partially Blocked copyright? Probably but i uploaded a Poseidon sleeping sun video but it did not get partially blocked like why
Wow I didn't know this. I got my channel permanently removed just because of breach, copyright and sort of but I have now to try this out
I had one on a video I only share with family and few friends. Its a tribute to my mom and uncle WWII vets.
Can someone answer my question. I have a copy right of a video showing my room of the hotel where I was staying to recommend to people where to stay in that town. I have no music, but I do mention the name of the hotel and the address too. Whay I have a copyright?? Thank you
Hello, I have a question about Believe Scams' copyright. Many TH-camrs say That Believe practices false claims on youtube. Is it true and what to do in this case? TH-cam algorithms work in a way that compares the ID of the music. Someone even said that Believe claimed a copyright for classical music of 2 centuries ago! what do you think really? Many thanks for considering my request.
i had a Violation of TH-cam TOS. I only made a tutorial how to get a game for free. Literally millions of people do that. WHY ME?
That Warning stays in my channel till now..
I got copyright claims on my some of my original work. Which I wrote and composed.
Is there a simple way to just re code a clip. I seen some people reversing video etc. Please
Thanks a lot. it really helped me. I am going over all my videos to edit those with copyright claim.
No problem, so glad it helped 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
