Hello guys!I absolutely adore your videos.Nice photography, best scenery and lovely music.Hope you are both well my friends. Can’t wait to see new adventures
Thank you 👍. We’ve really struggled to get out this past year with change of jobs and grandkids etc . We have a van trip to Europe we might make a vid out of but we’re hoping to get away more this summer 🤞
I was camping/hiking in South Downs last summer and I agree with your comments @ 13:50 - and I felt at the time - that it doesn't quite match the north. It is not quite as challenging, in fact it was too easy. However, it is very peaceful there and beautiful. Nice video,
Yes, it definitely needs to be a perfect summers day or blanketed in snow to look it’s best but it’ll never match the north. As you say it’s a very peaceful place and only an hour or so from our house so it’s great to have a camp without working so hard for a change 👍.
I love all the diverse landscapes of this little island, all have their beauty wherever they are.Great place for a glass or two of wine that.Never been up that way before, must rectify that someday.Good to come along on your journey as usual.Regards,Andy.
Thanks Andy , it's amazing the change of scenery when you spend a couple of hours in the car . On a day like this it's nice to spend some time in the greenery and the wine tastes even better . Cheers mate .Atb. Austin.
What a beautiful place to hike and camp! Excellent drone footage. It really is impressive to see shots of you hiking. Feel like I am watching a Steven Spielberg film!! Marley is crazy jumping into water troughs!!! That dog! What a great camping trip. Have a great trip to Crib Goch. Looking forward to that footage! Happy hiking!
You should have smelt him David! Fine once he dried out though. It was a cracking night and the weather was the opposite to Crib Goch , boy did it rain and the wind wasn't helpful but i was glad the kids got to do it in those conditions . When they go back on their own it'll be a walk in the park . The big one to look forward to now is 4 nights wild camping in the Swiiss alps in September . I just hope the conditions will allow me to fly the drone . Can't wait ! . Cheers .
OK--you did Crib Goch. Can't wait for the video, then! I have the Swiss Alps info right here. Maybe in a few years. The outfit my friend used is called Alpine Hikers. Alpine Hikers gives you a self guided tour and itinerary with any level of difficultly you want. You would stay at Inns or B&Bs each night in different villages. You are lucky the Alps are so close! I cannot wait to see that, especially drone footage! Did you come up with the itinerary on your own? How do you find camping spots in the Alps? It would be cool if you covered the planning in a video!
I think the self guided tours are a great idea . This one is called Tour des Dents du Midi , it a very long established trail and is only around 28 miles and is normally done over 3 days but we plan to take our time .Also it may take a while to find a good camp spot as you have to stay out of view from any of the paid shelters along the way as apparently it doesn't go down to well that your not using their services. We aren't using a tour company though as we're just flying out , jumping in a hire car and heading for the mountains . Hopefully we can make it to the col de Salanfe on the first day , then we can leave our packs somewhere and try for the summit of 3250m . Here is a link to the route . th-cam.com/video/jtyuKdJuvi0/w-d-xo.html We will be starting from Mex and doing the loop from there . The trail is very well signposted with walking times marked and flashes to follow so it should be a piece of cake . Can't wait !
A man after my own heart. When it's warm, do a mile detour to the pub...lol. Lovely walk and a cracking little pitch Austin. Drone footage and time-lapse excellent as always. Marley stealing the show once again. Just love that dog. Tell Lucy the wine glass storage mounts are a classic.....lol. And those steaks just keep looking tastier. Great little burner to cook them on. It's all good Austin. Well done you trio once again. atb.......Andy.
Cheers Andy , we're still wondering whether to take the glasses with us to the Alps lol. I took that time lapse with my old iphone so i was pleased with the result . As it was a bit of exercise for Crib Goch i took the Biolite and grill again and boy was it worth it , the steaks were even better this time round! It really does a steak well that grill. Marley's a bugger , nearly gave us a heart attack ! Atb . Austin
Loved this video I love the South Downs way I've. Bean to beacon hill once or twice a long time ago b4 started wild camping can't believe I haven't thought of going there myself already thanks for a great vid and returned memories 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
After subsribing to your channel only recently i am watching 2 of your vids daily and each one makes me want to pack my camping equipment. Keep up the good work guys, they are a pleasure to watch 👍
You're right it doesn't match the majesty of Scotland but still a nice view from the Trig Point. The dog certainly enjoyed it, thanks for taking us along.
Hi guys that was a lovely camp enjoyed watching that Good time lapse of the sunsett austin you captured it nice A very nice relaxed camp you cant beat it Thanks for taking us along till next time atvb to you both take care chris
Just up the rd from me this Guys and judging from the full moon and the weather i'd say a couple of weekends ago. Cracking vid Austin and Lucy, it's funny but iv'e been over them hills so many times but with the drone shots that where fantastic by the way it just looks different some how. Great walk and ill look forward to Grib Goch. Cheers guys and ATB. Jim.
Spot on Jim , brightest moon we've seen for a while and a real scorcher . Crib Goch was the polar opposite , wind and rain all day ,still good though . Cheers Jim .Atb . A+L
Excellent channel mate, I wild camp a lot but mainly woodland and beach. Thinking of doing a trip to the south downs with the warden and wanted to see if you get asked to move often. Keep up the vids mucker atb Nobby
Thanks 👍 We’ve been caught by farmers twice now and both times were fine . A lot of walkers doing the whole Way camp out so you should be fine . Cheers . ATb. Austin and Lucy.
The drone video is so cinematic and beautiful as to forgive the the racket they make (to a degree of course...lol). I will never understand why dogs have to roll in mud and or smelly things . Marley sure loves the water as well! : ) Too bad that the woods were sloped so much but a really nice spot in the meadow. I could do with a camping meal like that. Much better than my usual fare, freeze dried something or other. The sunset was outstanding. Wonderful video. I am envious indeed.
Thanks Max , we are sat in a pub in front of a warm fire at the moment after spending another night in the mountain snow . It was brilliant this time with no dramas 👍 . Got some drone footage as well . The trouble with the drone noise is I’m very conscious of it so I hope I haven’t annoyed to many people on this trip . Off to set up the big tent for a night on a local campsite then off to another bothy the next 👍 . Cheers . ATb. Austin and Lucy.
Glad things are going well. The drone noise only gets to me when the operator can see you and over fly's where you are anyway. Quite annoying. Stay safe and get all of us the footage we love. Max
Bloody hell! I'm going to have to visit there with my bike just to go up that white path now. I do wish people would stop saying it can't be done when I can hear lol. Lovely place, lucky about that electric fence. I want steak for my next camp. Stunning sunset. Blue tent seen from... half a mile? That's why I stick with green. Thanks for sharing mate.
Great video. That will make a nice walk in the summer for us. My mate has that bio cooker. Can you tell me what the griddle/hot plate you were using for your steaks? Would love to get him one.
Thanks 👍. It’s just called the Biolite Grill I think but if you just search that there’ll be loads of sites 👍. It’s a bit pricey though 🙄. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Hello guys have been following u both and Marley for a long time now, although I have been walking for some time now I have never had the balls to do a over night camp yet,I was wondering if you new the satnav bearing for cocking car park as I thought this would be a nice walk to start with.South downs way.
Beacon Hill is one of my favourite places on the South Downs. Years ago I walked from Amberley to Petersfield along the South Downs Way- about 23 miles!
What do you think of that stove mate and is it any good at charging up your phone and devices etc etc??? Looking at em on eBay right now, quite expensive but would be handy if they work as they should, Thanks to you and Lucy, and Marley of course.
Hi James , the stove has been great so far and charges my iphone and gopro just fine but this is the old model now . As far as i know the new one has twice the charge and has battery storage (around 2000mah) which you can pre charge before a trip so it sounds a vast improvement on a good product . You're right though , they're not cheap and the wood needs to be pretty dry to start with unless the fire is well established and it takes a few goes to get the knack of it but once you do they're great . A handful of wood pellets and a fire lighter works great though . Cheers .Austin + Lucy.
Yeah, from studying them on the net and what people say about them there I've worked out that the newer models are much better and more efficient than the old original ones. I'm in two minds as to whether to buy one or not. I suppose if you live in a really remote country/place they're cost efficient and very very handy little things, but for the likes of you and me, who live in and around the London area and the south of England not really so, an expensive unnecessary waste maybe, hmmmm, thanks mate.
I think you're spot on James . We don't use it that often and when we do it cooks for two . Perfect for the canoe or if I were going on a multidayer in a dry forested area I'd take this every time. For overnight the gas stove and you can take a power bank to re charge.oh and it's brilliant on a paying campsite which doesn't allow fires . Cheers .Austin.
Hi Guys, I discovered your channel the other day when looking for some vids on climbing Crib Goch. Great channel and its inspired the wife and I to have a go at wild camping. We live in Southampton so the South Downs is close to us so a trip to beacon hill maybe in order. Do you guys have a kit list that you would be willing to share. I have a large tarp and we have some basic stuff but I am looking for more of a definitive list. For example what are you guys using for your sleep system (Mat, bag, bivi etc etc) and pack bag sizes / contents. ATB and keep making the vids they are ace... Toby
Hi Toby and thank you. It’s a hard one picking gear at the moment as the weather should be warming up soon . Our back packs are both 55 l and bursting at the seams in winter with all the extra insulation. On the move it’s easy to keep warm but once you’ve been set up for a couple of hours that’s when you need a good down jacket and base layer leggings. Make sure all your evening clothes and insulation is kept in a dry bag in your pack with spare thick socks for the night. We always try to make sure we will stay dry on the walk with waterproofs, we have plenty of warm clothes for the evening, our shelter is roomy enough for two (and gear) and our sleeping bags and sleep system are overkill for the expected temperature. Lucy uses an OEX Leviathan 900 down bag which is fine up to minus 10 and unbeatable value ( my mountain equipment bag is rated the same but 3 times the price). In the height of summer we use £30 down blankets from China. The mats we use are made by Klymit and are the insulated version, the Static V if I remember correctly. These are brilliant and good value too although slightly heavier than say, the Thermarest Neo Air, but much more comfortable and stable and cheaper. We always take the foam ,silver reflective sheet for insulating the floor of the tent , this is must and only costs around a fiver from eBay or China. We take this when just under the tarp for a carpet as well. Water is also a consideration and if there isn’t a source nearby you’ll need around 5 litres for two of you for a night and breakfast. We carry an Ortlieb 5l water bag for this. We use a screw on filter similar to a Life Staw when we just want drinking water and are not boiling it. Our packs usually weigh around the 15-17 kg mark on winter walks ( more with the mountain tent) and around 10-12 in the summer. This summer we will be trying out a couple of Chinese Z pacs Duplex copies called UL Gear Lanshan 2. They’re around £80-100 , very roomy , 2 porches to store your kit and cook in and only weigh a kilo. So far we can highly recommend them at this price. We did a video on the gear we packed for our Alps trip, we don’t go into great detail but it will give you and idea of the list th-cam.com/video/R43PvmC97qg/w-d-xo.html here is a link. We may well be heading to the South Downs this weekend as there is apparently a chance of snow and it’s not too far for us. Have a great camp and let us know how it goes, if you want to know any other details of the kit we use don’t hesitate to ask , as you may tell, I can talk gear all day lol . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Hi Austin, Top reply mate, thank you. I did see the report of snow this weekend up on the SDW. Hope you're going to take the drone out and do a vid of your trip if you go. I too love talking gear!! Again, thanks for the reply and no doubt I will come back with some questions and never know, may catch you on the South Downs in the summer. Toby
Killing me with the streaks mind, looked brilliant! Nice camp in the end and I think it was better out of the woods for the spectacular sunset and the wild flowers also looked great, don't see many about now, so that was good to see. I hope you take the good weather with you to Wales next week and get the same weather for Crib Goch as you had last time. Will Lucy be doing it this time or doing another solo ascent? Cheers Alan
Yes i'm glad we camped there in the end and i've never seen so many wild flowers . Crib Goch was great , albeit bloody soaking . Rain and 30 mph winds most of the time . Lucy took Marley up via y Llewedd again but our 2 youngest came as well , along with Scott and Peter , so we all did the ridge .It was still good though and after those conditions the boys will find it easy when they go back in better weather . Cheers . Atb . Austin .
Thanks John . I really enjoy using the Biolite and if it was slightly smaller and lighter i'd use it all summer long . It only comes out on short walks and canoe trips . For ease though i'll stick with the rocket . It's just so much quicker from the off much smaller and lighter . it takes about 15 minutes to make a coffee with the Biolite as you have to get it going first as opposed to 5 with a gas stove . Cheers . Austin.
Hi Maureen, apart from the new job taking up so much time we have a great excuse. Our first grandchild, Lyanna was born over a month ago now. She was born at 32 weeks and had some complications but she is home now and absolutely beautiful. We have spent a lot of time travelling to and from St. George’s in London to visit her but it’s a small price as she is adorable! Also we have only just returned from a two week break in Rhodes to re charge the batteries so hopefully we get out a bit more from now on 🤞. Roll on the winter ❄️! Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
Austin, the lovely Lucy & Marley, please do not ever underestimate the pleasure your instalments bring to us 👍 Austin, is there a way to message you privately ? ATB Alan.
Thank you Alan . Yes there is a way , i think you click on the community section of your account and the Send Message but i can't remember properly so i'll try to send you one and if it works you can reply to that privately . Atb . Austin
Hi Alan , i can't message you as i don't think yours is an actual channel without content but if you go to my channel and click on the About icon and then Send message icon . Hopefully that will work 👍 If not try the google plus icon .

The drone video is so cinematic and beautiful as to forgive the the racket they make (to a degree of course...lol). I will never understand why dogs have to roll in mud and or smelly things . Marley sure loves the water as well! : )
Too bad that the woods were sloped so much but a really nice spot in the meadow.
I could do with a camping meal like that. Much better than my usual fare, freeze dried something or other.

Ha Ha i'll film it lol . Bloody dog , i shat myself when he did that . Yep , green tent all the way in summer . Cheers Mark .
Walking in that sort of weather is murder, everything feels like it takes more energy, nice video, Dominic

Cheers . Atb . Austin .
Another lovely video..... I'm really impressed with the Bio stove, which you seem to be using more nowadays... Do you prefer that to the Rocket stove?
Thanks John . I really enjoy using the Biolite and if it was slightly smaller and lighter i'd use it all summer long . It only comes out on short walks and canoe trips . For ease though i'll stick with the rocket . It's just so much quicker from the off much smaller and lighter . it takes about 15 minutes to make a coffee with the Biolite as you have to get it going first as opposed to 5 with a gas stove . Cheers . Austin.
How come u are not on here much these days ?
