Hi could you please talk more about job opportunities for those that are completing a PhD? I am doing a PhD in Population Health, University of Ottawa with interests in Health Systems research
Thanks for the comment Rodrigue DEUBOUE - we'll definitely address those issues in subsequent episodes of #TWIGH (we'll do a few "jobs in global health" episodes with time). Thanks for watching!
Hi Stefanie Gissing if you subscribe to the newsletter you'll get the show notes emailed to you. I'm in the thick of figuring out how to get old show notes to people (will sort that out soon). We're also going to publish all the show notes as an e-book at some point I hope.
Stefanie Gissing it wouldn't include past notes but I am working on a way of getting those to people. If you email me at hello@twigh.org I can try to make a plan for you.
thank you, soo much indeed, secondly bachelor's degree in Public health Officer, So how do I apply and get UN jobs WHO in Infections Diseases and stay Somalia( East and Horn of Africa )
Regarding a not directly related to the video question, but more like a personal request for advice based on my interpretation of it. I'm really confused regarding the kind of carreer choice that I have to take in terms of choosing an agency and a major. I'm interested in both Global Health and Global Human Settlements and I want to know what is the type of agency that would work trying to remediate the new and urgent irregular urban settlements and social exclution issues. Being now the time that more than 70% of the world population lives in urban areas, the massive development of slums may become the source of an epidemic (viral or social) that could put in risk the global integrity of states and I'm not sure if the best approach to make the world a better place is throught planning and non-urgent type of actions that a comunity should check in order to avoid any tipe of emergency and positive development (more on the side of UNICEF) or work at WHO or and other emergency-capable agencies like NATO and such. If I'm interested in working on whatever either field, considering my profile what might be better for me or looks like a more logical path? which agency should I go or search for? What kind of studies should I have should I want to be on global health or human settlements? I'm a 26 year old architect who is not so much a fan of architecture and design but to cities, urban planning and emergency action kind of work involvement. I also have an aspirational craving for doing research (althought I've never done any) and I've also got a taste for experimental science and field work. I read a lot of research on amateur pages but hardly read any real formal scientific paper. I've also always had a strange feeling for health and emergency related activities. I started training to become a paramedic , loved it but couldn't finnish it due to schedule and work issues. I've learnt that I love the feeling that I can help no matter what the situation is and that I can be a very usefull citizen of Gaia. Also, I'm very aware that the way I am and my current studies make me pretty much useless to any agency and that I need to have a drastic career change. What would be your advice? Thanks and sorry for the super strange question regarding my motives. You're pretty much the only experts I can think of avialable to talk.
+Yoli Garrido Thanks for the question. Given your interests, you could look at the WHO of course but other agencies will have tangential interests (although more disease or population specific) - so consider UNICEF, the World Bank and UNAIDS. Its always good to see people with eclectic skills and interests getting involved with public health. Welcome aboard.
That's really helpfull! These organizations work with health related issues, should I want to work with human settlements, which agencies should I check for? Thanks.
Awesome video! Thank you! I'm finishing my BSN in Nursing and am currently looking into Uppsala University or College of Dublin at the Humaninitarian Master Programs. Do you guys recommend this pathway? I would essentially like a mixture of admin and field work. Thanks!
hi Trish Knutson - yes, doing a masters at this point is an excellent next step. UCD is an excellent school (I live in Dublin and do some lecturing there from time to time so we may meet up). Anyway - good luck!
Hello! I'm s health science major with concentration in community health. I'm very interested in global health and I want to go to grad school for it. Does my major help in going into global health? Also do you recommend going straight to grad school?
Thanks for the questions TupacAmaru4Life - firstly, yes, your major will definitely stand you in good stead re your future studying and work. With regard to going straight to grad school - while there is of course nothing wrong with that, you might find that you get more out of grad school if you've got some work experience under your belt. That said, it can be hard to get work experience without a graduate degree (in the global health space). Good luck!
Looking for a job in *Global Health* ? Watch this weeks episode of TWiGH and find out how.
So happy to be putting our tidbits of advice together to help Students and Young Professionals (SYPs) advance their global health career!

Hi guys, thanks for this informative episode! I was just wondering where I can find the show notes for this... I can't seem to locate them anywhere!

Global Health with Greg Martin if I subscribed would that include past show notes? either way the e-book sounds exciting
Stefanie Gissing it wouldn't include past notes but I am working on a way of getting those to people. If you email me at hello@twigh.org I can try to make a plan for you.
