      Did this at work one time... a bunch of technical guys were discussing an issue and my manager was kind of clueless... I walked up and told him "Excuse me sir, I speak Jive..." Both my boss and the tech guys about fell over laughing.

    The best part of this is those two guys are actual best friends and have been talking this Jive language since high school. So when they read for the part the directors could not stop laughing and pretty much hired them on the spot. They are still friends today.

    What makes this scene so absolutely effective is the both Actors have a rhythm and emphasis on parts of the lines that does not come off fake or forced , They are absolutely natural with the flow becuz they both came up with it , and they used alot of terms that were absolutely obscure as opposed to more known phrases like " Jive Turkey " , " Right On " ...ect

      This movie basically kickstarted Leslie Nielsens second career. He (and Robert Stack, the Captain etc) were cast specifically because they had all been dramatic actors. They were picked to play these ridiculous slapstick jokes as straight as they would as if it was a serious movie.
      It's so freaking perfect.

      Sometimes people (not saying you) do this to dehumanize people not of their race. They make them a label "African American" but with their race they use the person name or something like "guys".

    So many great scenes in this movie, but this one was and is my favorite. Still funny years later. My favorite was that "Shit' translated into " Golly".

      On the early 2000s DVD version of this movie, there are some cast interviews included. It has one with these two guys, and they're speaking regular English, but it has Jive subtitles down below! Hilarious.

      It's a pretty hilarious story actually. When these two guys were up for the role, they had to read what ZAZ put together in their version of how a jive conversation would go. Apparently these guy laughed at it then proceeded to do their own shtick and were hired on the spot.

      Actually, the Cleavers were VERY white, but, they were pretty goofy & fun to watch too, with Beaver, Wally, Eddie Haskell,, the fat kid, etc. . There were some other white shows back then that were BORINGLY white. Ugh!

    One time I decided to memorize this scene's dialogue. I listened to it again and again, then wrote it out [phonetically when necessary] and memorized it. I can still recite it perfectly.

    I saw _Airplane_ in the drive in when it first came out. I’ve since seen it hundreds of times on TV, with this scene always being a favorite.
    But it was only 2 or 3 years ago that I read here on TH-cam that it was ‘June Cleaver’ herself in it! (I was way too young for _Leave it to Beaver_ , even for reruns)...
