- Gilbert Arenas Explains Why NBA Players Should NEVER Trust Team Doctors as He, Rashad McCants & The Gil's Arena Crew tell the stories of their experiences with NBA Team Doctors and explain why NBA Superstars should always consider a 2nd opinion when it comes to their health because NBA teams will ALWAYS try to rush a player back from injury if it helps them make money.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

After becoming a fan of this channel, I don't look at the NBA the same way. Especially with players injuries.
The David Stern era was as shady as American sports can get SMH
The team doctor is just like the HR department. They work for the company, not for you.
Perfect analogy!!!
That's why Kawhi did it his way
I'm grateful he brought us a CHIP!
Yea but he still fucked.. old man knees
@@picklericky03Leonard has a degenerative knee issue. The spurs told him he will always have to play through pain and he didn't want to believe it. With all his gifts he was blessed with he unfortunately had 1 Achilles heel in his genetics that his knees will degrade at a higher rate than most.
@@picklericky03 what are you actually saying? Because he was definitely ostracised for not playing through his injury. Toney Parker “My quad injury was a hundred times worse”.
@@picklericky03 “Spurs are always over cautious with their players.” They had Danny Green playing through groin injury for 2 months AND misdiagnosed Pau’s injury.
Bra mcants fit every episode 😂😂😂😂 he the random fit goat
Random fit goat is crazy 😂
He's a dumb A$%*
Right 😂😂😂😂
Keyon would’ve been perfect for this episode he would’ve said a handful on this conversation
This segment just makes Kawhi look smarter
Facts
First person I thought about watching this video.
Kawhi has become the "I need a day off I'm sore" guy now. He'll never see another chip again.
@@tali617he has enough
@@adrianjones4806 An NBA player saying "I have enough chips I'm good" is pathetic lol
If all these players have the same story about being lied to with medical injuries I would think it could be a class action lawsuit 🤷🏾♂️ ijs it’s scary
you can't have class action when the waiver said " This is a doctor opinion of the situation" at no point did the doctor ever said it was a fact. So you can't sue someone base on opinion. This is how teams get away with it. The team, NBA and the Media are all working collectively.
Now I understand kawhi more but I sensed it when he wasn’t down with the team doctors
That’s why you should always get a second opinion
Team doctors are exactly what their name says. Team. They not looking out for the players best interest
Ask yourself why they would want to keep a healthy player out for long tho. The most important thing about a player is trade value, the teams wants to make sure he healthy to be traded if he injured. They not purposely not trying to heal their players. Makes no sense
Exactly! Look at the Tyrod Taylor situation when Herbert was a rookie. You can’t tell me that was “by chance”.
P.S. Herbert was always gonna be the guy going forward but the team doctor/Chargers front office jump starting that transition was terrible.
That’s unethical and illegal. MDs, ATC’s, surgeons and PTs all have to give client centered care and follow codes of ethics. How ever they do make mistakes and they always way the options of procedures to patients. If you work in healthcare you know this. In this video is just a few athletes that are looking for people to blame because they’re not happy with an outcome.what they’re saying here is pure nonsense.
Trust me , these healthcare professionals see so many patients that the _code of ethics_ you mentioned go out the window !
Here come the conspiracy theories ffs
That’s why Kawhi ain’t a Spurs. Did the right thing and listened to his doctor not the team doctor
The spurs medical staff told Leonard he has a degenerative knee issue and he's ok to play but will always have to deal with pain. They were right, he wanted to believe his knee could heal and be the same, that has yet to happen. Since leaving the spurs he has never played a full season and often rests based on if he wants to deal with the pain that night.
The spurs medical staff is actually one of the best in sports, Leonard just used it as an excuse to get back home to LA eventually.
@@Gregor_Von_DOOMdoesn’t help when your coach and teammates shitting on you either. That might’ve been the bigger nail in the coffin
@@willrobinson_ nobody shit on him. Tony Parker pointed out how they've played hurt too it's part of the job but maybe should have kept that within private circles though the team was constantly being asked about Leonard not playing because he wasn't speaking to anyone. His relationship with Pop is still good.
@Gregor_Von_DOOM you dont say anything to the public about a teammate. Period i get your a spurs fan but it sounds terrible. The man played 68 games this season most players arent playing 80 plus seeing how most stars dont play on an average of 28 games.
@@BigNorm87 if you are getting paid by an employer.. you need to communicate your availability. He cut off all communication with everyone. 68 this year sure... Now post how many games he has played since sitting out for the spurs. The original post was about the team doctors being right about his knee. It's actually common knowledge now that he has a degenerative knee.
Learned a lot about the behind-the-scenes workings of the NBA, when it comes to player injuries!👍
Great Topic .
All I hear is malpractice and lawsuit. Why are these teams getting away with this?
Because they sign a waiver.
The teams run the league😂
Opportunity. If you not Gilbert Arenas status and they tell you, you good but you tell em you not. It would be easy for them to find a replacement for you I bet
Sound ignorant dumb and it’s giving I don’t know what I’m talking about I’m just saying shyt
That waiver is a MF
Applebees or nothing is wild B

you know what it means, right?
@finisher3x what does it mean.?
One doctor told me I had tendinitis in my shoulder. Shit was hurting after wrestling practice, come to find out I tore my rotator cuff and labrum
Doctor told me I had tendinitis after a car accident in my shoulder. This thing still messed up 4 years later
I’ve always wondered if players could’ve sued certain teams and teams doctors, there are so many stories like this to where players get fucked over because the team doctors are trying to get you back as quick as possible.
I'm sure they sign waivers. When I got my wisdom teeth taken out as a civilian I had to sign a waiver. I can imagine most doctors wouldn't do surgeries where things can go wrong without protection and the waiver is usually the first wall of defense and then there is malpractice insurance as the 2nd wall.
Any type of procedures you sign away that right !
@@TreeSnackz -- This is also why when you see doctors in spaces outside of hospitals fearful of saving a patient or injured person. It is why some people are afraid of doing CPR or the Heimlich.
No waiver was signed and if they messed up the civilian who tried to save can be sued for wrongful death or something.
We have legislated out kindness due to fear in this world.
I know that has nothing to do with sports but that is the protections they give doctors to keep practicing although it is inevitable they will mess up.
@@semi6544this is America and there are Good Samaritan laws.
You won’t be prosecuted for trying to properly render aid
@@Earnest12235 -- I didn't say prosecuted. I said sued.
They can sue you and they do sue people when good samaritans fail.
You are absolutely right about those laws but that has never prevented a wrongful death suit.
Some people sue and actually win.
Serious conversation, but the ears falling was crazy 😂
Gil be trolling hard asf😂
Gilbert arenas just said the real deal hollyfield facts on their mentality money over your health
Microfracture was a damn death sentence at the time does anyone know if people even still get that in nba
if i remember correctly, all the smoke podcast talked about how players don’t get microfracture surgery anymore because it is directly responsible for ruining many players careers.
Watching Gil’s Area, his podcast confirms how the NBA looks at players as an asset and throw them away when to avoid the liability
And folks want players to be loyal to these organizations...
That is messed up ! The idea of loyalty is the biggest myth sometimes !
FACTS! And fans sh*t in players for not being "loyal" for demanding trades or whatever. But owners and GM's aren't loyal to anybody and fans say it's business 🤷🏿♂️
@@silverblackguerrilla4370 I was one of those people pissed at Bron for leaving Cleveland. Years later with all the facts. I understand why he did it!
@@SteveAmor As long as you understand now it's all good. Owners trade, waive and release players like they're cattle and fans don't say anything about them not being loyal. But if a player leaves when he's a freshman agent then he's being disloyal smh. NBA fans are the worst fans ever

Ice & Stem the trainers ginger ale 😂🤣
Kevin Weeks said this about the Vancouver Canucks in 1999.
Honestly I’m not going to lie I feel like this is general practitioners too, I kept going telling the doc my knee hurts, and they did bs test to see if my knee was good, and said it’s just a sprained, well turns it this whole time I was dealing with a torn ACL and it led to other ligaments being torn
"Ice & STEM is the trainer's ginger ale" is crazy ! 😂
Malpractice from team doctor's is wild
Cracked knee cap to tendinitis dang 😮smh
Was not expecting that fit from Gil 😂
These stories make Anthony Davis look like a warrior..
Just look at all the injuries he’d played through the last 2-3 years
Cuttino Mobley was misdiagnosed with a heart condition and retired because of it. That got to be the worst one.
I had micro fracture surgery after my high school season and it was over. I’m 25 now. I graduated back in 2017. 😭😭😭
These are conversation you can have on espn
Factssss stem do not work i thought i was Trippin in college 😂😂
This is why the 65 games threshold didn't make sense. it create window where teams can fleece players.
That’s what happened with Kawhi! And folks got the audacity to be mad at him in SA! People always talk about the spurs being one of the best organizations CAP!!
Chalmers tore his Achilles and was released the next day
Mario Chalmers?
So stem cell and prp causes you to lose feeling in the place of procedure?
Any and essentially every part of an organization that affects the revenue of that organization is going to do everything they can to limit any potential losses for that organization…so HR, medical staff, psychologists, are all there to the benefit of the organization not the employees
How did trusting the team doctor work for John Wall?
Kawhi bother with a team doctor says a former Spurs
I played for Jarvis Hayes AAU team in middle school
No different than a workers comp doctor for a warehouse. HR is always for the company.
Give em a little Robitussen 🤣
Wildest fit is this Applebee's fit who signed off on this?
Doc gon Gil griffin back
I don't always agree with Rashad but that's I'd up I feel for that man the franchise ruined his career
Is Gil joining the illuminati? What is this fit bruh 😂
I think player should definitely invest in a personal doctor. Team doctors are going to do what's best for the franchise.
Someone explain the Applebees thing please.
Applebee's or nothing 😂😂😂
I wonder what Derrick Rose's situation was, he had constant ankle injuries and then the big knee injury.
I need that hoodie mane 😂
Lexie tried to brush off wat Rashad said about the team doctors doing him bad asl n das petty asl
Look at Gil’s face after she said bruise. He had flashbacks of way worse injuries 😮
Now y'all got me wondering if Houston team doctors were paid to deactivate/not clear CP3 that game 7?
The Eagles pretty much fired their entire medical staff years ago because of the injury stuff. That same staff lost a lawsuit to a former player Maragos last summer.
My doctor used to tell us that there is no such thing as returning back to 100% post surgery. So, what they are saying is funny, but accurate AF!!!😢😢😢😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds like Army and how they give you ibuprofen for everything. The Doc, "You've been shot, ahhhh, take some ibuprofen and drink water, fit for duty."

A bad/unnecessary procedure can ruin your whole career.
They sound like our military docs lol. Told I just had a strained muscle. Come to find out I had two herniated disc, degenerative tissue in between L5, S1 or whatever the number was can't remember. Then I had torn my ACL as well but I just worked through pain. It self healed in correctly to the point where I couldn't get surgery. All good but man the military docs are the bottom of the food chain.

I wish NBA fans were as judgemental of the GMs and owners as they were the players and coaches. When it's understood how vile corporation owners behave when they are min-maxing for more competitive profit it's understood why money first ideologies exist for many players. It's only going to get worse, because being a decent/fair human being in these modern times makes you a "boomer".
Love the warriors but we screwed KD and Klay smh. Screwed Curry’s first few seasons too.
They will don’t talk about this shit in espn
Kawhi did the right thing!
yall pick and choose who to sympathize with. Y'all said Tmac wasn't hurt and he went and had microfracture surgery that almost ended his career
Y'all said kawhi was faking It when he said they misdiagnosed him and so did his teammate, and yall slandered that man for a whole year even though the doctors did exactly what they re explaining here, and called kawhi load management
Victor Oladipo killed his career, going out on a bad knee, they made him play and he snapped it multiple times from that one game, now he's done
