Another poster mentioned the water pump. First thing I noticed too. I had a '64 326 so noting the GMC/Pontiac differences is interesting. Keep the videos coming!
I'm glad you pointed out the water flow. That's the first thing I noticed. I once saw a fuel altered with a blow Pontiac that had that same water flow. But that was years ago.
The Pontiac Motor Division PMD was way ahead of the times. They actually pioneered a lot of the technology we have today. Im not sure why they abandoned the reverse cooling.
I like how it's Soo outside the box for you Don. I'm saving this video to my favorites list because now I have proof that DCI Motorsports DID , ( once upon a time , ) make a 2 barrel engine. Lol
@@dcimotorsports1111 I've never used the fast but the pertronix three I put in my stock distributor for my e85 motor w 60k volt e coil works great plus built in 15 degree retard for starting and built in rev limiter is hard to beat. I love that thing. That's a really nice piece you built
They did indeed and I actually considered finding one to install on this build, but I was worried about the PTO and other logistics. Im not installing this engine and when I'm not the one supervising the project . I get worried it will go side ways.
Wrong First 8 cylinder Chevy was 1955 with a 265 cubic inch. 56 was same 265. 1957 had a 283 power pack heads. 58 came big block 348 ci. That means cubi inch. 409 ci fit in somewhere. 62 63 brought 327. 427 was prob the last great year. 1972 kicked us all in the butt with low compression. Said a fuel shortage right. Get your numbers straight.
Boy this video reminds me of all of them hundreds and hundreds of carburetors i rebuilt.

Pushrod oiling happened in ‘64.That’s some obscure GMC history and a pretty sweet engine.
Thank U for that tid bit of info. I thought it was 64 but wasn't a 100% sure.

I like it. A Pontiac in a PU. Hope you get to give us a test drive. Nice job. :)
I built a very similar setup for my 57 gmc wrecker, runs great! I’ve taken it on the power tour

Ha Ha ya this is way outside my wheel house :)
Not everything has to have a "radical" idle.
If it was a 347 c.i. It was a 1957 1956 was316 and 1955 was a 287 all had reverse flow water pump
I hope the truck is as nice looking as the engine.
Its getting a frame off resto, so I'm pretty sure it is.
Parades and prayer meetings.
did you put a pertronix upgrade in that distributor
We did, I like the FAST better, but I couldn't one right now.

They made a tri power set up for that engine.

This is a Pontiac V8 which was an option in these older GMC's. So I do have my numbers correct for the Pontiac engine :)
Are there no 4 barrel intakes available for that series engines?
There are, but the 2bbl is factory for this tow truck application.
