Merchant navy, ever heard of it? That pilot was sure confused but still, if he had the mission to fly there I would be rather confused for a second too why I could not fly there. Still rather unbelievable how long it took him
I live in the Scottish highlands and next to the main underwater weapons testing area that our navy and other NATO countries use for submarines training/torpedo firing etc. For as long as I can remember, and I’m 44 now, the place, (called BUTEC), has placed an advert in the local newspaper and online to let fishing vessels or other boats know that certain areas are out of bounds or at least restricted during weapons tests etc. It works brilliantly and there’s never any issue - I can’t understand why there’s not a similar system that’s updated hourly or daily for aircraft in other countries. Military exercises are usually planned years or months in advanced and surely flight schools or civilian training places should be alerted when warships will be in an area used by aircraft. I dunno, maybe they are and this was an oversight, but it seems to happen an awful lot in places I consider to be “first world” with good communication links etc.
Interesting, never knew they did that. In this case however my money is on the pilots actually being part of the exercise in order to test the ships response to a restricted airspace incursion....the pilots just seemed a little too stupid with their questions, almost as if they were baiting a threat of force to see how much they could get away with. I'm no expert, but I can see this kind of training being required as it's not an unlikely scenario for naval ships to have to deal with.
*F363* is HDMS _Niels Juel_ - an Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate in the Danish Navy *F360* is HDMS _Hvidbjørnen_ - a Thetis-class patrol boat in the Danish Navy
That's the thing, they could be doing anti air training with drones in the area, you fly in there and next second you could have a SAM coming at your face. Besides the last time they did nothing to a small boat that got too close they got a hundred kilogram charge detonated next to their ship.
So many grey ships, if I have to stay away 5 miles, I can hardly plan my Mission, now how do a war ship would reply for such a dumb question. "You turn or else we shoot lol, oops, I now understand how to plan my route, Thank you for kicking my Brain lol :)
+Neil Neil Yes, of course he was referring to that, what i'm saying is that in America, the army would just shoot you... it was a joke, of course it's not like that... What i don't understand is this, why only in Europe? American army don't do the same thing? Ask to leave the airspace? A normal civilan would be confused, european or not.
@@Mandorle21 Normal pilots are not confused when they're told to leave restricted airspace in the U.S. (source: am a pilot in the U.S.) The U.S. doesn't just shoot at you under normal circumstances, though. They just give you some practice flying in formation with a couple of F-16s. Granted, U.S. military air traffic controllers also tend to be pretty clear about the fact that you're violating restricted or prohibited airspace in the first place. They normally don't leave any room for confusion on the matter.
Looks more to me like a permanent restricted area than a NOTAM activated one. I've looked through the NOTAMs archive of the FAA and on September 13th 2016 there was no NOTAM that activated EK-R95 or EK-R96. But you can definately see them on the the charts... On the other side, mistakes happen. These wannabe badass military ships (which are probably just training themselves) should have just telled the pilot to take a look on the charts (or GPS if equipped) and look for the restricted area... Not this "remain 5nm clear around every navy ship" bullcrap... How am I supposed to do that without visual markers (like the pilots asked, how do recognise them)... Funny, when the navy guy realized he was talking crap, he threatens with opening fire... Calm your shit down, navy captain...
They do, there are other NOTAMs published for this date (also for today, so I think they do have), Check out notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/ On the left side you can choose "Archive search" and then put in date and designator (EKRN for Bornholm).
flying in restricted air spaces means if you dont leave when ordered to you will be shot down, which you should already know whats restricted space and not been there in the first place
flattire78 In some countries, if the plane entering the restricted air space is not an imidiate threat, military fighters will escort you out of the airspace and not threaten you to shoot you down. Especially if the restricted area is only used for training and not an actual protect-worthy area (like in the US, where temporary restricted areas are created whereever the president is). But every country is acting different in these regards, and to be honest I didnt liked the way the navy ship handled that.
I am very glad I've never had to be in a position to either be threatened with live fire for doing something a superior told me to do, or having to threaten someone with live fire because they *might* be lying about their intent.
I very much appreciate all of your hard work in producing this TH-cam channel and presenting all of these ATC videos. I enjoy them very much. But if you will permit me to say... I have watched several of them and in many, many instances the written captions on the bottom of the screen are wrong. ATC transmissions are often hard to understand because of static or poor resolution, but many times I have read along with the captions and been surprised by the transcription errors. I AM NOT CRITICIZING because I love your channel, I'm merely pointing out that there are many mistakes. Is there (do you think) a specific reason why?
Has anyone actually read the full transcript of this exchange? It is rather bizarre! Captions are auto generated. And what a computer thinks it's "hearing" frequently has NOTHING to do with what was actually said! And no one can or will try to type in what is actually said. The channel producer does NOT act as a caption corrector in these either!

Why? Its nothing like that story.
Also that story is bullshit, never happened

Naval officer: "go north or we will open fire!"
Pilot: "Ok, no more questions from me, bye!"
Neither of them knows what the other is saying AT ALL, yet they both understood intention perfectly....the military in a nutshell
"Navy ship? You mean military navy ships?"
"No, it's civilian navy ships."
To be fair he was probably thinking of the merchant navy
Yes , for your information "civilian" navy is called merchant navy......
The whole encounter sounded like a delightful variation of the naval battleship vs the lighthouse joke. :D
-"Go north or we will shot you"
-"Ok, going north"
-"Thanks for your cooperation"
DEPTN: You are interrupting my VFR mission.
F363 (Armed Grey Military Navy Ship): That is correct
This is encouraging, hearing a potentially heated and difficult situation resolved amicably and with civility. Good post.
Welcome to Europe ;)
"Navy ships you mean military navy ships?" Nah mate these here are fishing vessels, we're trying to get some elusive cod.
Yeah, better stay clear of them, you might scare all the fish away.
This is foxtrot uh 3 uh 6 uh 3 uh
I am pretty convinced that this was all part of the training.
That said, the danish radio operator really should have started with identifying as a danish warship and that the aircrafts are entering restricted airspace due to naval training. Would have cut this whole conversation down to under 30 seconds without threatening to open fire.
Yes, yes. NAVY warship.
Ooh, THAT navy!
You might be pretty convinced, but still wrong ;)
For details, refer to my latest comment on this video.
That 'or we will open fire' definitely had him shit his pants.
DA40: Navy ships, you mean military navy ships, I see lot of naval ships in grey color. How will i recognize all the navy military ships?
Navy ship: You have to turn north now or else we will open fire.
DA40: I see you well now. I know your position going north. LOL
Pilot: How will I recognise all the navy military ships?
Navy ship: *opens fire*
Pilot: Now I see you...
"You mean military navy ships?"
Nah, the kids toy kind. Your all good.
SAVAGE
"we will open fire" that is a pretty convincing statement to end an argument...
Amazing how much politeness a couple of AA defence cannons can bring into a conversation xd
"This-a is-a war-a ship-a foxtrot-a three-a six-a three-a" wow nice accent
South Park nailed that Danish accent
I lived in Denmark for a while before, and many do speak like that
"'eloh mah nam isss" just trying to put my danish english teacher's presentation into words. Took 1 second to guess her nationality
its like they're lazy to open their mouths.
@WEMBLEYNE: Or too lazy to type out a complete sentence like: "It's like they are too lazy to open their mouths".
*F363* is HDMS _Niels Juel_ - an Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate in the Danish Navy
*F360* is HDMS _Hvidbjørnen_ - a Thetis-class patrol boat in the Danish Navy
You had me at "open fire".
"Turn now or we will open fire"
Me: You ain't got the BALLS to shoot me down!
Always call their bluff.
"Please kind sir, put away your balls!"
That's the thing, they could be doing anti air training with drones in the area, you fly in there and next second you could have a SAM coming at your face.
Besides the last time they did nothing to a small boat that got too close they got a hundred kilogram charge detonated next to their ship.
What a attitude change at the end. Ship to Air Missiles, always the great equalizer. “My mission?” “Fuck my mission”
"How do I recognize navy military ships?"
"We will fire at you once you get too close."
"I just remembered I left the stove on. Bye."
2:30 pilot getting a bit nervous😂
DEPTN: How do I tell what ones are military ships?
Navy ship: Afrimative, stay clear
"Who says I have to turn right?!"
"I do. And I back my argument up wirth this gun."
"Turning now, appologies for the inconvienence."
“I won’t be able to complete my mission....”
“I’m Gonna end you bro”
Hahahaha
So many grey ships, if I have to stay away 5 miles, I can hardly plan my Mission, now how do a war ship would reply for such a dumb question. "You turn or else we shoot lol, oops, I now understand how to plan my route, Thank you for kicking my Brain lol :)
abhayp9 the dainish dims specedie the ships so they also could be little boats with divers
...
Only in Europe will you hear this kind of argument lol
Hsi-Ping Chu I don't think so, listen to some of the recording of the USA, we have our idiots too.
That's the case, in europe everybody are friends but then we also play around being independent countries and doing this shit. Is kind of funny.
Yeah, in America they just shoot you
+Neil Neil Yes, of course he was referring to that, what i'm saying is that in America, the army would just shoot you... it was a joke, of course it's not like that...
“We will open fire” Oh I see you now we will turn north
Pilot was being awkward on purpose, he soon understood when they said they will open fire
deptn got very cooperative and ceased to ask questions once he was told he'd be shot down lmao
'So honey, how was your first day?'
'A man in a ship threatened to shoot me down'
Looks more to me like a permanent restricted area than a NOTAM activated one.
I don't think FAA has any information about Danish NOTAMs.
They do, there are other NOTAMs published for this date (also for today, so I think they do have),
Check out notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/
On the left side you can choose "Archive search" and then put in date and designator (EKRN for Bornholm).
flying in restricted air spaces means if you dont leave when ordered to you will be shot down, which you should already know whats restricted space and not been there in the first place
flattire78
In some countries, if the plane entering the restricted air space is not an imidiate threat, military fighters will escort you out of the airspace and not threaten you to shoot you down.
Especially if the restricted area is only used for training and not an actual protect-worthy area (like in the US, where temporary restricted areas are created whereever the president is).
But every country is acting different in these regards, and to be honest I didnt liked the way the navy ship handled that.
Frigate 363 was very polite and worked with the pilot.
Frigate 360 only came on the net once with the shoot down threat.
da40: "but there are too many to go around" f360: "look we got the guns here. GO AROUND " da40: " 10/4 leaving"
"Now I know your position" sounds like a challenge tbh.

Hilarious how polite everyone is despite the F360 threatening to open fire. XD
Wonder what would happen if the pilot shouted allahu akbar
Well within 3-4 seconds that pilot would be requesting a change of pants :P
well for one, he would be very disappointed that the 72 virgins was an old wives tale
*missile fired*
Tora tora tora
They would have offered him their ship and all of the women on it. And apologized for not doing it sooner.
Great work with the maps! :)
Let it be added this dude shit his pants immidiately after that last transmission ended lol 🤣😂🤣😬 I know I would
Possibly the politest “we will open fire” I have ever heard.
Army? You mean military army?
Merchant Navies exist too, you know.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver%27s_Army
Yes. They have military tanks.
It is good thing that things didn't went south during that time.
I am very glad I've never had to be in a position to either be threatened with live fire for doing something a superior told me to do, or having to threaten someone with live fire because they *might* be lying about their intent.

DEPTIN: "Navy ships, you mean military navy ships?"
F363: "No s***, Sherlock!"
This is the anti-thesis of that warship trying at night to threaten a lighthouse to change its "course".
Hi there,
You may want to help and contribute the channel with those transcripts you say are wrong. My email is on the description ;)
Thank you. I will do that.
@@VASAviation Did this dude ever follow up on this?
@@VASAviation 5 years... is he ever followed up on his "Thank you. I will do that."?
Has anyone actually read the full transcript of this exchange? It is rather bizarre! Captions are auto generated. And what a computer thinks it's "hearing" frequently has NOTHING to do with what was actually said! And no one can or will try to type in what is actually said. The channel producer does NOT act as a caption corrector in these either!
