- hey everyone! if you made it through this tornado of a video, i’m currently applauding u
in today’s video i discuss the come-up of one of the most powerful and influential producers/tv personas of the 21st century, simon cowell, and how his overwhelming success fell to an abrupt halt in the past few years.
while we can recognize that he is clearly phenomenal at his job and highly creative and successful, it comes at the dark expense of a dozen young artists who had big ambitions. yes, he made their dreams come true, but crushed parts of them in ways that are unforgivable.
this video revolves specifically around syco and simon cowell though i know these artists have faced much MUCH more than discussed here at the hands of our abusive industry in general
industry mistreatment has unfortunately been very prevalent for decades now and speaking about these stories instead of turning a blind eye is very important, below are the resources i spoke about in this video

The fact that we almost lost Liam and Jesy because of all the drama of being an artist......oof
I find it funny that little mix have achieved so much broken many records but are still really disregard/disrespected, they are one of the only groups where all of them can sing, dance and harmonies + little mix had another album after salute but it got scraped so all their work had to be put into another one which became get weird.
i think it’s so important that you talked about westlife, leona, and rebecca so many people overlook them to talk about LM and 1D only when they’ve had the same experiences too
I’m so glad that people are starting to listen about the things that lm, 1d, 5h, etc went through; because little mix has been exposing syco for years. But no one listened
Liam saying that "it would've killed me" ALWAYS leads to an intense breakdown of mine, I just can't even help it
When Zayn left One Direction they wrote his exit statement about wanting to be " a normal 22 year old" Zayn said he never signed off on the statement and didn't see until it was already posted. He said the reason they posted that statement was to SABOTAGE HIS SOLO CAREER and to a degree it worked. To this day fans say Zayn lied about wanting to live a normal life when he planned to launch a solo career, when he said no such thing.
as a little mix fan, I'd like to clarify that Little Mix had to scrap their original 2nd album because syco didn't approve so then "salute" was born. same thing happened with "get weird": by that time, they were missing deadlines and they'd be dropped out of the label if they didn't have a solid single and an album concept as well, that's why there was a long off-period for little mix in 2014- 2015. again, they scrapped the 3rd original album before "Get Weird" was announced. Technically, Black Magic saved their career
Little Mix were literally created to be a visual group. The girls mentioned that they were only put together because they were all the same height not because of their vocals skills. I presume their purpose was to originally just sell their image but I'm glad that their talent got recognised
little mix has never been silent and thats why they never got their america promo. insane how talented and successful they are even without america; they deserve even more broken records. damn shame that colombia records isn't doing anything for them rn either
and all the racism that Jade, Leigh-Anne and Zayn faced. Like editing pictures of jade to make her look less arab, literally all the comments about leigh anne and the terrorism jokes surrounding zayn

Also little mix got told by syco that they had to only release “bubblegum pop” music bc that’s what would sell from a girl group. Also Perrie opened up in an interview and said that she got such bad anxiety from constantly being in the road that she couldn’t spend 20 minutes at home alone without having a panic attack

The clip of liam saying that he didnt know who he was and that the band "would've killed him" gets me everytime. Zayn left for his own wellbeing & health and liam openly said it would've killed him of they kept going. Its absolutely insane how people were so money-hungry they put such young people through hell.
Thank you so much for this video Jasmine, and also for including Fifth Harmony in it. I'm a Directioner and a Harmonizer, and while people are ready to talk about One Direction's mistreatment, I often see people conveniently forget that Fifth Harmony was mistreated so badly. All the girls have spoken out a lot about it (there are endless clips of Lauren telling people to "read their contracts" and she talks a lot, especially now, about how she feels like a bird that's been let out of a cage). I've found that people criticize and make fun of One Direction and Fifth Harmony for not writing all of their songs (especially Fifth Harmony who only really have writing credits on their last album) but don't understand that they never really had a choice. Also, you were definitely right about how much all these artists were mistreated, especially when it came to new music and tours- Fifth Harmony's 3rd album was released only 2 and a half years after the release of Reflection, and when asked about what keeps them going, Lauren literally said "our contract". One last thing, Camila's name is pronounced Cam-EE-la, not Cam-ILL-a, just so you know. Thanks for the video!!!

Little mix done 3 tours in 2017 which were first the Ariana grande dangerous women tour, then they done their summer shout-out tour and then went into their glory days tour.
it is extremely painful for someone like me (who's been a solid Directioner since 2010) to say this, but Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall, and Zayn are literally better off apart than together as a band. they've suffered enough. they were minors (except Lou) when they were made to sign their contracts. imagine the mixed emotions that had overwhelmed them at that point when they practically had no idea just what they were signing up for. our poor lads 💔
