One thing I love about Corey's voice is he manages to sound like someone legitimately losing his mind, like few other metal artists I actually hear the pain in his voice come through in the growl vocals.
Ikr, and he does 3 of his longest screams in this song which I love

Slipknot's visual get-up resonated with a lot of alienated kids experiences. It was like, this is fuckin banging music, and this is how I feel as a shy/anxious/abused/neglected/otherwise troubled youth.
They became huge over time, but I think bands like them and Korn tapped into this and gave a voice to it in their music.
Yes, it's a relationship song. Vermilion (as stated) is a shade of red and Corey's first wife was called Scarlett. See what Corey did there? As subtle as a high five to the face 🖐️😳😠😡🤬

The album this song came off of "Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses" is one of my favourite albums of all time, definitely a top 10 contender for me personally.
One of their best mask cycles too.
I remember getting Slipknots demo cassette tape back in 97 or 98...as soon as I heard it I knew these guys were going to be BIG!! They were like Korn on steroids!!!
My favorites scream by Corey Taylor is the final "Won't let this build up inside of me"... I've screamed that scream a thousand times by now, until I've almost passed out a dozen times... A lot of people were critical or this song and the sequel when they came out, but they are part of the vital reason I fell in love with this band.
Holy shit! Hell yeah dudes! I used to sleep to this song cuz it has such a chill vibe to it. Man. Sleeping to Metallica, Slipknot, Pantera.... then Gojira. Can't do it anymore, too much... dont get as good a sleep when that's on and the dog hates it. But there's plenty of other music for that. Plus the softer Slipknot songs still make the list. And we rock the heavy ones all day man! \m/

One of my favorites. I remember this song came out when I was in college and I used to wait for MTV to show the video late at night. Loved the music video too that went along with it.

Their very first album Mate Feed Kill Repeat came out in 1996, by the way. The self titled album, the first one with Corey, came out in '99.

An almost theatrical approach to metal, with some absolute intense musicianship to back it up. Jeff Loomis on the guitar in that song melts my face no matter how many times I listen. 🤘🤘

Slipknot officially formed in September 1995, but existed before that under different names. If you want to check out pre-Corey Slipknot, there's a whole album with original vocalist Anders Colsefni called 'Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.' that was released on Halloween 1996. A highlight of that release is the song 'Do Nothing/Bitchslap', which combines elements of death metal, disco, and jazz!
08/24/1997 at the Safari club was Coreys first show with just face paint. After you get far enough into their discography you will be entertained. Yall should watch some of their documentaries to truly understand how crazy the industry hated them and trued to make them fail but it only fueled them to be the monster they are today.

Before Corey Taylor, the lead singer was Anders Colsefni, and just had 1 record (few copies in Iowa) Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, and that sound a little diferent but has a few song of the first one with Corey Taylor as a lead singer, 3 years later.
The music video for this song is in my top 5 all time!!!! So sad and dark, with a deep meaning. My only disappointment in this reaction is that you didn't see it!

Yaay Slipknot Saturday is real! I'm so exited to see you dive deeper into them as they have so many layers to explore. Regarding their newer stuff make sure to check out Solway Firth. It's (obviously) less raw than early Slipknot cause I think they matured a lot but still kept their identity and that song is a perfect example of that.

Fun fact about this album. It's the only Slipknot album without a Parental Advisory. Corey did this to show critics he didn't need to curse to write the lyrics . I highly suggest checking out Bert Kreischer's podcast with Corey Taylor. Please check out Tech N9ne - Wither featuring Corey. Also Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat was their first album released in 1996. One other thing I really like about Corey's voice is he sings with baritone. For some reason it seems like 95% of the metal vocalists from like 2010 on have very whiney singing voices. I can only take so much of that kind of voice.

You guys have to react to the other parts of Vermillion now! Vermillion PT. 2, and some of the hardcore maggots believe that there are 4 parts. Snuff (Vermillion PT 3), and Killpop (Vermillion PT 4)
His other band Stone Sour has some great stuff also and shows another side of Corey. Also, a lot of his live performances are great and has done a lot of covers in genres he does not typically do.
