Great content! I would love to see a tech episode about the differences with cp3 offerings between 10mm and 12mm stroker pumps and the limits as well as the pros/cons with a big single versus dual and even triple. It's impressive to me to see you can run a triple set up and actually tune it to start and idle just fine. Speaks volumes about the commonrail advantages. Thanks again for sharing the knowledge. Also what would you say is the limit to factory late 5.9 commonrail rods? As well as the limit to early 6.7 rods and is there a major difference between those two?
I'd be interested in seeing a series like this. Going over parts section by section just like this. There is so many manufacturers at so many price points out there, as someone looking to build an engine in the future it gets kinda confusing. Great info though, had no clue the factory CR rods were fracture caps, I think I'll be looking into a set of Streetfighters for sure when I eventually build an engine for my truck.
Just subscribed to your channel, because my son and I were watching western champlin, and you came thru in the clutch and helped them out. That's a good friend. Been enjoying your content as well. Thanks.
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us. Something I would like to know is what do you look for in a machine shop and what questions do you ask them before trusting them with your parts?
Absolutely fantastic and informative content. Can't say this sort of content and info can be found anywhere else on the tube. Sorta like Project Farm, except in the diesel industry. New channel idea. Project Diesel. Compare all items light duty diesel performance.
If you could share some differences of the common rails from year to year, like injectors, ecm, and tuning options, etc. and what is you opinion on the best year to buy and reasons why. I got a 12v now but definitely my next buy will be a common rail. Thanks man, keep up the good work!
Didn't you push 2k HP through a set of Streetfighters once? Excellent content. I didn't know the pistons had such intricate oil cooling orifices machined into them.
2:43 Do you have a few recommendations for something much bigger than oem for an 06 truck? Considering my eventual turbo set up this probably should be upgraded too. In your situation I would put a small square of sheet metal use jb and press it to it oozes out. Repaired a few radiators like that and they held for years.
Kind of off topic but will a 3rd gen common rail defuel at a certain RPM? I have a 03 with only a Smarty JR and it seems to run out of steam at around 2500RPM. Is there anything you would suggest over the Smarty? Really look forward to seeing each new episode.
Anyone know what the Best rocker arm, Rods and connecting rods etc to use on a Tow Pig 2021 Ram 4500? I have a truck that I’m wanting to upgrade the parts on because the factory stuff needs replaced.
Great comparison. I've heard horror stories about Carrillo rods. I'll be going with the Wagler street fighters for my build. One question are the street fighters balanced or would you need to balance them for 5k rpm?
I have a question I am building a 6.7 Cummins and I'm trying to use 12 valve connecting rods but the roads are interfering with the camshaft any solution beside installing them backward is it using a camshaft of a 5.9 can solve the problem
Are any of these manufacturers using titanium alloy for their connecting rods? I would think the weight savings would be worth it for the higher rpm builds.
My question is what rods would you recommend for 24v 5.9 @500-700hp range that is a Daily driver that hauls occasionally, and drags the sled once or twice a year at the pulls? Truck isn't there yet hp wise but want to get it there eventually. Granted I'd prefer putting in rods that can handle well above that hp range to have a buffer zone, but reality is i'll most likely put in rods I can afford that will handle that power. Also I wouldn't mind seeing more content of you guys working on customer trucks, as I'm sure many others would enjoy that as well.
Does the early 04 have the oil cooling pockets in the pistons? Also do all of the 6.7 years have a weak powdered metal rods or did they improve something over the years?
@horsestorques - Josh are you a air dog distributor? I'm about to get a lift pump and would like to support WOT over the other vendors. Great video and Happy fathers day
I wanna build a 6.7 Cummins for my hotshot truck... What would consist of that? Not to powerful that it will scatter pulling 38k lbs but I definitely need more power rolling up and down the Rockies
Hello, Horsetorques Diesel! This is Kyra from Issyauto, a professional brand dedicated to producing the best car parts. We noticed your TH-cam channel and we really enjoy your videos. And we also realized that you may own a 2021 Dodge Ram 3500. So we are writing this email to invite you to review the product of our brand. Please feel free to let me know if you're interested. Thank you!
@@horsetorquesdiesel Thanks for your reply! So could you please let me know what truck do you currently own? Maybe we have some other products for you to review. Thanks again and look forward to hearing back!
Have you ever "custom mixed your fuel"? My first (and best feeling) attempt START WITH HALF A TANK OF DIESEL ONLY 20% nitromethane, 12% lubricant, 68% methanol 1.5oz/gallon, grow a brain and use a calculator. Get it right. MegaCab Mix (also very good, not the helicopter blend - a different bottle) 15% nitromethane, 18% lubricant, 66% methanol 1.5oz/gallon here too but he went with a full tank. 10 gallons in your tank? 15oz of fuel. Simple math. Don't mess this up or you'll end up with a firecracker.
Rgr, just barnstorming. As you probably know the nitrogen in n2o is non combustible, and the real stored energy. Most gas burners reduce timing . Guess there is a safe timing ban in diesels. Thanks for all you do. Keeping it going.

Josh if you could do a piston video that would be awesome!! Explain the wide bowl. And marine/ industrial piston vs a standard common rail piston

Would like to know the info on the rod strength as well. Have a 6.4 with early 5.9 vp rods and wonder their capability.

Very cool, I didn’t know about that oil pocket/cavity on common rail pistons! Always enjoy your technical videos, thanks!
Really great chat about your experiences, much appreciated!!!!

Nice work!! One thing when you get a scale double check those weight comparisons between ours and wagler.
Great content!!
Will do, do you have your weight on a deckplate rod? I don't have any loose rods of yours.
Of course understand why you went east, but dangit wish you would of opened a shop in Utah!
Awesome info on the rods. So I assume the factory produced 12v, VP44 Rods and the CR 5.9 and 6.7 are all the same length?

Yes I did

Nice interesting video as usual Josh 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your honest opinions are really helpful.
When will you be getting back into the powerstroke engines?
When someone sells me one for what they are actually worth 😂
Awesome video! Very informational!!
I am going full out on internal parts and running 60hp tune eith stock turbo and injectors shit gona be reliaboe af
Carillos or street fighters? What’s better? Also when’s the piston video coming out?😂
very informative josh...thanks for the video!!

Did you ever get info on this,Ive used bully dog and Ive used BD diesel downloaders on my 03,bully dog worked well not the Bd.
What’s lift pump pressure doing
Fass pump 16 psi
That's probably your he341 baby turbo running out of steam.
i wish u would of said hp ratings on each of the rods. how much hp could u push with stock rods and how much hp u can push with the aftermarket rods
Each manufacturer has the HP listed
Anyone know what the Best rocker arm, Rods and connecting rods etc to use on a Tow Pig 2021 Ram 4500? I have a truck that I’m wanting to upgrade the parts on because the factory stuff needs replaced.
Josh, the tuning that led to the FSR's melting. Was it too early timing, too much duration or pressure or combo? thanks
Someone forgot to shut the pilot off
@@horsetorquesdiesel Oh hells bells. Damn buddy that sucks, these damn laptops can be the devil.
Great comparison. I've heard horror stories about Carrillo rods. I'll be going with the Wagler street fighters for my build. One question are the street fighters balanced or would you need to balance them for 5k rpm?
You can balance them with pistons, but out of the box I have never had an issue at 5500rpm
I have a question I am building a 6.7 Cummins and I'm trying to use 12 valve connecting rods but the roads are interfering with the camshaft any solution beside installing them backward is it using a camshaft of a 5.9 can solve the problem
Long side toward the oil cooler then you shouldn’t have any issues
@@horsetorquesdiesel thanks for the reply do you mean I should install them backwards?
Are any of these manufacturers using titanium alloy for their connecting rods? I would think the weight savings would be worth it for the higher rpm builds.
No I would imagine most couldn’t sell any at that price point

Does the early 04 have the oil cooling pockets in the pistons? Also do all of the 6.7 years have a weak powdered metal rods or did they improve something over the years?
Some yes. The c&c rods are weaker in my opinion
Any experience with the promaxx 4 bolt rods? How do the D&J and Wagler compare as far as clearance to the camshaft?
Garbage! Garbage! Garbage! Those rods don’t even fit into a piston properly without grinding the crap out of them
Hell Yeah Brother 🇺🇸🦅
Was that the On3 performance IC out of the 07 or one that was already in the original DDP/Armor Inc setup?
It was from the 2005 about 3 years old
Please do a video on the 700-800hp 5.9 build 🤌🏻
Next week!
Thank you Josh !!!
Josh on a budget billed have you any thoughts on shot peening stock rods made 4th jen year rods
No, shot peening is a waste in my opinion

No, and I won’t, pump #2 is working just fine, we tried some blends on the engine dyno, the gain isn’t worth the cost
