    • @GoStraightToGulag

      Because there are survivors from the titanic....that's why it is known how it sank.
      Last I heard there are 0 recovered bodies or people from Malaysian flight 370.
      The oceans have dead spots where towers nor satellites reach. And the ocean is a vast huge space with top and bottom currents changing every day. Parts of that plane could be anywhere on this planet by now under many thousands of meters of water. And the bodies likely rapidly decomposed to both marine life and salt water.

    FUN FACT
    The head baker of the Titanic. The guy who was standing on the bow of the ship with Rose; he was a real person. He handed out bread to evertone on the lifeboats and gave up his seat to a woman with a baby, when the ship was sinking he took a swig of Whisky and leaped in. He stayed in the water for 43 minutes i think. When he got the Carpathia, he was diagnosed with only mild/light frost bite.

    • @DonnaBrooks
      @DonnaBrooks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      It's so true that not all heroes wear capes (or uniforms). Ordinary people do heroic things & I wish more of their stories were known. I just finished reading "Babylon's Ark" about the rescue of the remaining animals of the Baghdad Zoo and the surviving animals from Uday's private menagerie during the war. Most of the people involved were civilians who got the help of the U.S. military, DoD photographers, & wildlife organizations like WildAid, Care for the Wild, & the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). None of it would have happened had not one man gone from South Africa to Iraq to rescue the animals.

    • @almostemilyjew
      @almostemilyjew 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Actually, they had. This was confirmed in the national inquiry into the Titanic sinking afterwards. And they built it so it would not have sunk if the Collison was head on, turning away was their fatal mistake.

    • @AndyHappyGuy
      @AndyHappyGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@almostemilyjew you were wrong in that one reply TWO TIMES! Here are your mistakes.
      1: WSL never said that. They just said that Titanic was really safe and the press interpreted this as 'unsinkable' and they spreaded that.
      2: Imagine you were one of the officers on duty and you just realised that the Titanic is steaming towards an iceberg. What do you do? Ram the iceberg head on and potentially get fired or even imprisoned OR try to turn away. Obviously the 2nd choice. It just didn't make sense to ram the iceberg.

    • @AndyHappyGuy
      @AndyHappyGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And adding on to that 2nd one, it still wouldn't have worked if they had rammed it because the shockwave of the iceberg would have jamed every watertight door in place rendering them useless. If that happened they would not have the ability to contain the water and the water would have easily flooded all 16 compartments simultaneously causing the Titanic to sink even faster.

      @WriterGirl90 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There’s been a documentary recently that talks about a pretty bad coal fire that started on the Titanic before she even got to Southampton to begin her maiden voyage. The theory put forward in that particular documentary was that she was going so fast because the only way they could get rid of the smouldering coal was to put it in the furnaces, increasing her speed. With the heat generated, it weakened the hull and caused the coal in other bunkers to catch alight. Because they lost so much coal to fire, it’s possible that they may not have reached New York if they hadn’t kept up momentum.
      Apparently you can see a discolouration on her hull in several photographs from just before she sailed. Not sure if the fires actually contributed to the sinking, but it’s an interesting theory! 😺

      You can blame the codes at the time that had the amount of lifeboats be based on size of ships instead of the passenger and crew size (as the lifeboats were supposed to carry passengers to the rescue boat and then return to save more passengers). This would mean that the Titanic was supposed to carry 16 lifeboats but Thomas Andrews wanted far more lifeboats than the legally required 16 but was only able to get 20 lifeboats.

      D Lynn Have ever heard of the lifeboat infamously dubbed “ the money boat?“ It was lifeboat #1 and had 5 first class passengers and 7 crewmen, 12 total when it could hold 40. My great grandfather Albert Horswill was one of the seven crewmen on that lifeboat. It is said that sir cosmo Duff bribed the crewmen at the request of his wife Lady Lucy Duff to not return to the wreck to rescue drowning passengers in fear of passengers swamping the lifeboat and sinking it. Hence the “money” angle. Very upsetting amidst all the heroism if that night that I am forever attached to acts of cowardice. Titanic is just a depressing event on so many levels and I have a hard time understanding how my great grandfather or anyone could not do everything humanly possible to save others. Another factor in how the evacuation played out was that when the first lifeboat was lowered around 12:45 AM, the officers in charge were still skeptical of the ship actually sinking, and some historians have speculated they had initially only started loading lifeboats at a precaution. However, 45 minutes after that same officer who'd loaded the first lifeboat sent three of the last standard boats away packed with 70 people in each before sending a collapsible away with as many as 50 people, these four boats accounting for one third of the survivors

      The failure wasn't the fact that they didn't go back. The failure was the fact that the Titanic crew launched the boat with so few people on it. Once in the water though, it would of been foolish and stupid to go back and attempt to rescue people. You need to realize that those boats tipped easily, trying to pull multiple people who weigh almost twice their normal weight, (probably around 200lbs+ of weight when including the clothes, life jacket, etc. all being wet, and them being tired and frozen) would of been suicide in many cases. You can't blame anyone for not going back, at the tiem your ship just sunk.. you have no idea if they got an SOS out, you have no idea how long you may be stuck out there, so to risk your only safety line when you could be out there for days, or weeks is absolutely ludicrous.

The article stated that when the watertight doors were closed, the ship would be "practically unsinkable".

    Here we go with the bad rivets again, it didn't matter if they were good steel or poor iron, all were pretty much as strong as the other, that's been proven. There was so much force at the time of collision, it wouldn't matter what they were made of, they were going to give regardless.

    Nice video. Most of your facts were correct. The third class passengers didn't eat gruel. They ate "rice soup, fresh bread, biscuits, roast beef with gravy, sweetcorn, and boiled potatoes, followed by plum pudding, sweet sauce and fruit". The lifeboat capacity wasn't technically legal. It was legal. One life boat capsized and didn't just float away. The life belts weren't useless. They stopped people drowning. For the millionaires boat to go back and help would have been crazy. Those in the water would have capsized the boat. In fact in addition to this boat no other boats went back, bar one. CarPAYthia. The company removed the numbers, not souvenir hunters. The extra boats didn't go on the Olympic. It was planned they would but they did not. Morgan wrote a short story which is quite loose on connection and not a novel. Even 5 compartments could have flooded and it would have still stayed a float. Apart from those small points an enjoyable video. Her designers never claimed she was unsinkable. A magazine of the day did.

    Here are a few things. Titanic almost had a collision with another ship in Southampton. During her Sinking her sister ship Olympic was on its way to the rescue. But was asked to stay clear of the disaster site because seeing a ship that looked nearly like the Titanic would have been too traumatic. Officer Murdoch actually saw the iceberg first before the lookouts but even so it was too late. The order was for Women and Children First... Murdoch on the Starboard side got the message, Lightholler on the Port Side did not and kept men away even though there were seats in boats available... he heard the order as Women and Children ONLY. One child died in first Class, none from Second Class, the majority of child casualties were third class. Titanic was considered SOOOOOOO fancy that her second class accommodations were the equivalent of first class on other ships. MOST of the pictures you see of Titanic’s interior are actually Olympic since she was older and got more press when she debuted. Titanic was not well photographed... all the lift attendants were killed in the sinking. Thomas Andrews predicted that the ship would sink in an hour, but thanks to her crew in the lower decks staying behind, they slowed the flow of water and kept her from capsizing, and despite a turnover of a collapsable boat, got all her lifeboats away, so that gave them an hour and 40 minutes extra.

    • @EarlTheWhiteNinja
      @EarlTheWhiteNinja ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I'd argue is that the 300lbs of coal on the port side, is what kept the Titanic from sinking faster. Had that not been there, she probably would have capsized and sank in the time Andrews predicted.
