I have owned my Traeger Grill for more than two years now and done everything from 2 full size turkeys to birthdays cakes. What are the biggest pros and cons? Why did i buy a traeger, would i buy another? Could this be the best pellet grill/ smoker for 2020?

I love my Treagers and have never regretted buying them! Don't know about the new ones but mine are extremely well built with heavy gauge materials and I expect they will probably last another 20 years easy! Just keep them cleaned out and dry on the inside. They have seen hundreds if not thousands of pounds of meat! I have used it to cook any and everything! It makes a mean smoked cobbler!

Great Video. I have had my " Lil Tex " for several years. Your pros and cons are pretty much spot on. I added the flip up shelf and a bottom self. I have prepared many different meals on mine, including pizza and pies. I have received many good comments on my grilling. The ribs are always a big hit. I have used all of the pellet flavours I can find. I will not go back to any other type of grill. I do agree wind is a factor. Mine sits on a open porch with a roof overhead. I still grill in the winter, it just takes a bit longer. I have thought about the wrap you can purchase for the grill and cover it up a bit. I really have not had a problem with the Traeger Grill.

I love my Traeger. I have a great rub recipe that I use and I’ve watched a lot of shows about smoking. I use both propane and my Traeger. It all depends on what I’m cooking. Biggest thing I’ve found out is try different Traeger wood pellets. This way you dial in the flavor you want. The biggest pro about owning a Traeger is the fact you never need to buy other people’s smoked meats. Just smoke your own. It’s the best grill/smoker I’ve ever had. It makes my neighbors a bit jealous because the area around the house smells so damn good.

Great video and thanks for the two year update! Had my six year old Century 22 and liked it so much bought the new Siverton from a Traeger show over the weekend at Costco, initially was DOA so called Traeger customer service and a replacement logic board and hot rod was shipped UPS along with a new top cover which was crunched during shipping. Traeger customer service is tops IMO. Side note: I kept my old Traeger Century in the garage, pulling it out on the driveway for BBQ/smoking so it still presented like new and was 100% functional, so put it on CL - sold it within two hours. Love my Traeger.

I've had the smallest one they make for a couple of years now. It's great for cooking, in the small model it's cheaply made with skinny legs and thin metal. It still cooks like a boss. I've had a little trouble with the electronics shutting down in the wind, but other than that the little bugger is great. I'm going to upgrade to a better model eventually, and I would recommend getting a higher end model in the first place.

    • @BrewReview
      @BrewReview 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No doubt. Per cooking time in hours, propane is vastly cheaper. You can offset that buying cheap pellets, but when that is your fuel source AND flavor source, why would you? It always amazes me when people spend a lot on the Traeger name and on huge cuts of meat but can’t spend a few a few bucks more on quality fuel.

I was raised on charcoal, then my dad got propane. 35 years later I went back to charcoal for 1 year before buying my Traeger. The move to charcoal was good, but the move to my Traeger has caused my taste buds to become spoiled. 2 years in and it is stil running top shape. here in Quebec our winters our cold and windy, but I put my Traeger in the shed (slightly opened a window to air out the smoke) and cooked all year long. I have several hardware stores around me that sell both Traeger pellets and other pellet brands too.
The only con to my Traeger --- I'm gaining weight

    Excellent points.
I've had a Pro34 for just over a year now (despite I commonly see it referred to as a 2016 model), and I LOVE it. Same bronze lid and everything. I've had a cover on it from day 1. Where you and I differ GREATLY is that the powder coating on my bronze lid was absolutely HORRIBLE; it started graying after the third use. I sent pictures to their customer service and they sent me a new one. I haven't installed it because there's a power coat shop just 2 miles from me and I've considered maybe getting the old lid coated in the color of my choice and possibly selling the old. The replacement I was sent is still sealed in the box.
I do have to admit though that I did upgrade my controller to a Savannah Stoker recently, and I absolutely love it. Not because of my one and only LEr on 'smoke' but because I saw that v 4.5 had a 'cold smoke' feature. Boom, sold, on the Christmas list for others to buy. Traeger definitely needs to up their controller game to Savannah's level, because there's SO much more users are missing out on without it, which I didn't realize until I installed the Savannah. I'm not recommending people immediately buy it as an upgrade after they get a Traeger, but holy cow that thing is amazing.

I just became a pellet grill owner and I'm a big fan too. But one big con for me is all the sophisticated components that can and will break over time. Mainly this is the hot rod, the combustion fan motor, and the auger fan/motor. Yes, they are not difficult or expensive to replace if you are handy. But you will never have that issue with a charcoal grill or propane grill. However, the great taste and ease of use offsets this con.

As far as the wind affecting the temperature, I bought a oversized welding blanket heavy one, and set it over the smoker in the cold and windy Michigan days. It keeps the temperature within 5-10 degrees.

Had mine for over 4 & 1/2 years. Your right set it & forget it. Did have a problem with pellets I guess breaking down & clogging auger. I suggest pulling auger which isn't hard just a little time & clean out auger & the tube. Mine bound up. Or take an air hose & blow through auger to get rid of wood dust. If they would only put this system on a big green egg I would buy that. Yes buy this product you won't be disappointed.

Last night was my first time using my pro 575. Did initial burn the day before and watched TH-cam videos on people’s advice in cooking. I cook for my family of 7 almost every night and I know what I’m doing in the kitchen as an amateur. Cooked chicken breasts and ribeye steaks together. Did a reverse sear for the first time as per video guidelines. Make my own rubs and a compound butter. Never have I tasted chicken that delicious in my life! I’m not a white meat chicken fan but it had an amazing flavor that 8 of us could not stop commenting on after every bite. Steak was amazing as well. If your thinking of spending the money, one mans advice is by all means make the investment. Completely blown away with this pellet grill. Salmon tonight on it. Can’t wait!

Retired at 40- Live.Life.Simple. Yes, at least 15-30 minutes, then crank it up to 450 until it’s ready. Steaks perfect smoking is 45 minutes, which I just watched a recent video and need to try. Also as you mentioned, fun with all the different wood pellet flavors. I got my whole Traeger setup at the local Costco and they have really good pellet prices compared to the other dealers. Happy Treagering! 😉

You can cover your drip tray with heavy duty tinfoil and about every 3rd cook replace it....... If you're out of tin foil or don't have time to cover the drip tray its no problem scraping it off with a bent handled paint scraper.

The one and only drawback that I could see with this is searing. I would/will definitely keep my weber and may possibly switch to one of these for my smoking projects! I do own a smoker. It is a master built cabinet style. I’ve certainly learned to appreciate electric smoking... I “wood” like a nicer smoker.

    • @live.life.simple.

First Traeger experience was at Fire Department. One guy brought his in. When cooking with propane and we get a run call, have to turn off propane grill. Trager cooking we could leave it on. We jus make sure to keep pellet hopper topped off. We liked it so much station bought one. Many of us bought em for home. Buy pellets in bulk by the pallet.
