    I have had my pro 575 for a couple months now and I love it. The only issue I’ve had was a small area on the outside by the drip bucket where the finish burned off. I did a live call with traeger so they could see exactly what I was talking about. They said it was a grease trap issue that caused an internal fire. They also said it was nothing to be concerned about, just keep the trap clean to avoid further problems.

    I have a had a traeger for many years,and everybody complains about the temp swings,it doesn’t matter or , not spot on or real close on your traeger,as long as the finished internal temp of your 🥩 meat hits the desired cooking range,such as chicken,170-175,ribs,195-200,steaks,med rare135,well,140-145,well done150.get a quality meat pro and everything will come out juicy and tender on the traeger.people worry too damn much about temp swings.

    • @Todd.T
      @Todd.T 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Without the temp swings, the flavor isn't as good. The internet is full of people that are looking to jump on the bandwagon who have no idea how to use the product.
      When the unit drops pellets, you get heavy smoke. When the dropped pellets burn for a bit the temps goes up and the pellets burn clean producing no smoke but clean scent of (insert wood type here). If you operate the unit at a high temp, say over 250, you can't really taste much smoke, just the wood type.
      The Traeger examines the temperature every so many seconds, I think in increments of 15, and decides whether or not to drop pellets. Because I have an older controller, I screw with the timings. If I set the unit to 15 seconds, the temps are very stable but with no swing, I either get smoke or wood flavor depending on the setting . At this setting 225 is best to get some smoke and some flavor. If I widen the timing setting to 45 seconds the temp drops and I get more smoke because of the later stoke and then another stoke because the grill hasn't reached target temps which results in more wood causing hotter temps and clean burn, which adds the scent of the wood type.
      There is a taste difference between a swinging temp cook and a stable temp cook. The swinging temp cook has broader flavor. Just like on my stick burner when I add wood and the burn isn't quite clean, it adds smoke flavor.
      If you screw with those setting and it is winter, you'll flame out with a longer timing between temp checks. I have summer and winter settings.

    Hi Kyle - I just received my new 575 yesterday and did the seasoning run this morning. This is my first pellet grill and I'm hoping it has the range to replace my big Weber propane gas grill and my Bradley Digital Smoker. I watched your video before doing the seasoning and noted the same as far as the uncanny ability for the auger feed to stop right as the first few pellets fell into the firebox.
    I am curious though...what have you made thus far and how have the results been? I am contemplating burgers for dinner and thought I would take a section of Grill Grates out of the Weber to use as a sear station. Have you done anything similar on your new Traeger or the previous one mentioned in the comments? I was also thinking about either ribs or pork shoulder for a Saturday smoke. Have you found the Traeger recipes (time & temperature) to be pretty accurate?

    • @KyleDeets
      @KyleDeets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have made burgers and steaks. Both I cook at 450° for about 7 mins a side.
      I also did a frozen pizza that turned out great. I cook those at 400°.
      The recipes on Traeger’s website are very good an accurate.
      Ribs are great when you do 3 hours at 180° and about another 1.5-2 hours at 275°.
      Pork shoulder is great for pulled pork. I cook mine at 180° for 7 hours and then wrap in foil and turn up to 275° until internal meat Temperature hits 205°.
      Hope this helps and enjoy your new Traeger!

    Very nice grill,I took out my diffuser plate out of my old traeger,and put Weber grease pans on bother sides of 🔥 firepot too catch any drippings for chicken or steaks,the heat will still distribute evenly all the way across the barrel just fine.the baffle plate over the fire pot is just for making temp even across traeger barrel and catch any grease drippings or fat from meat.i have been able too get good clean blue smoke all the way too 450.

    Two comments. I have an old Original Traeger Smith & Wesson Brand pellet grill (38 Special) similar to the 575--what do people do when they want to upgrade? Is there a trade-in or do you try to sell it outright? Also sorry to see Traeger stopped welding a metal bar on the pellet hopper to allow you to pick up one end and easily roll it into the garage. They have basically reversed the unit from what I have. Mine has the pellet hopper on the left side and chimney on the right side. Seems like they have improved them a lot...makes me want to consider upgrading!

    Hi Kyle, we are new to the Traeger, we’ve had it for a week. I’ve done the initial seasoning the first day and cooked burgers the first night and they came out great. I can’t wait for the day when I know what I’m doing though, it’s so different than a gas grill. I am afraid of moister getting to the pellets in the auger and jamming, is there a way to reverse the auger to unload the pellets back into the hopper? I have been removing the pellets from the hopper after each cook but would feel better if I could unload the auger as well. I do have a cover for the grill. Thanks for your help.

    • @KyleDeets
      @KyleDeets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Kim Kreamer There is a setting on the grill where you can run the auger in reverse but that is more to do with pallet jams. I do not recommend taking pellets out of the auger or the hopper each time you cook on it. These grills are made to be used and as long as you keep your pellets dry from direct moisture you will be fine. I recommend getting a cover if you were storing it outside. I have not run into any issues with humidity causing pellets to deteriorate. Don’t be afraid to try new recipes that you find on Traeger‘s website. It’s very hard to mess something up on this grill.

      TG R. Yes, I wish there was 4 wheels on this grill but I guess you need to upgrade to the Ironwood 650 to get 4 wheels on a Traeger of this size.
      Since there is a draft fan running in a Traeger Grill, the smoke you see escaping is 100% normal. You get plenty of smoke into the meat on this grill!
      NOTE! Please do not screw down the chimney cap thinking it will hold more smoke in the grill. A Traeger needs to breath and if you lower the chimney cap so low that smoke cannot Exit, you can choke out the fire and your grill will not work properly.

    I just got the same grill. Anyone else having trouble with maintaining temp on low settings? If I set it at 200 or less it runs 40 degrees cold. It’s Easter Sunday so customer service isn’t answering. I’ll call tomorrow but I’m curious if anyone else had this. Mid and high temps work just fine.

    • @darkbidding
      @darkbidding 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Whitehead I don’t have the grill myself, but I’ve been researching it because I was thinking of getting one. From what I’ve seen, lots of people are having the same problem you’re describing. Many are having issues at higher temps as well. Some saying as much as 100 degrees between set and actual temperature (setting 450 and only being able to achieve 350 when checking with a separate accurate thermometer inside the grill). The Traeger forums have a customer discussion thread on the problem. Doesn’t sound like Traeger has been willing to acknowledge the issue yet.

    I got my 575 a few days ago, and was super-excited! However, for 3 days I've been trying to connect the WiFire feature, and it's been a very frustrating experience. Customer service is very busy (which I understand) but once i've gotten to a live person, they simply read down a script and haven't been able to help me. Today, after waiting 15+ minutes on hold, the customer service person, again reading off a script, couldn't figure out the problem. After a good 15-20 mins with her, she put me on hold for 5 mins, then the call was disconnected. Has anyone had a similar WiFire problem? I had my router and signal checked, and the 2.4 ghz signal is strong on my back patio, and every other wifi device I use there has no trouble connecting. So...no actual grilling yet.

      You don’t have to cook bacon to season the traeger. All Traeger recommends to season your grill is to run it on high for 45 minutes. However, I do recommend cooking bacon on your first cook. All the grease helps to season the grill.

    I just bought this same model, did the seasoning of the grill just a little bit ago. Quick question if anyone knows, why doesn’t it roll with smoke as consistent as a wood chip smoker? I have a vertical gas powered wood chip smoker and if I have chips in there that thing is rolling with smoke at all times, notice that the traeger doesn’t.

    • @_K_W
      @_K_W 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked this up just today on reddit. Synopsis...Basically the new pro series smoke from around 165-300 degrees. After 300 degrees the smoke is lessened as the pellets are vaporizing quicker than they can smoke. So you basically need to set the temps lower to get the tradition smoke you would want.

    • @KyleDeets
      @KyleDeets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Drone King Very easy! I have found putting heavy duty aluminum foil on the drip pan makes cleaning up very easy. I change that about every third cook.
      About once every 10 cookouts you want to clean out the fire pot. Use a scoop to clean out the ash in the bottom of the fire pot. Some people use a industrial vacuum (shop vac) To clean out the fire pot ash but be sure that the grill has been off for at LEAST 24 hours before you use a shop vac. You don’t want a hot ember getting into your shop vac and starting a fire.
      For cleaning the grates I use a stainless steel mesh scrubber pad grill brush or a wooden grill grate scraper.

    I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.
