The only Saturn I saw IRL was the one at my local video rental place. It was too expensive to rent so we just tried a few games out over there. Got the money to rent Megadrive/Genesis instead :D A few yrs later I'm here to build up an emulator machine for my kids to enjoy and I finally get to "rent" that Saturn!!!
Really cool Steamkey this time, I'll be playing a lot of this for sure. It's gorgeous 2D hack-n-slash style, action RPG game THE VAGRANT, looks kind of like a budget Dragon's Crown, really nice art. Cheers, Gary! What a special list of games are featured in this video ... Saturn #1!! I'll need to watch a few times, do some reminiscing, then come back with a longer post. Really appreciate the quality of games here, as chosen by the (mostly western) gamefaqs users who love Saturn games the most. My own Top 100 would include a lot more JP-exclusive games, but watching these clips transports me right back to my living room in 1995-98 ... maybe my happiest gaming years ever.
The Saturn had some good stuff. On this vid there's 8 games I have on various other systems and 44 I'd like to try. I've never actually seen a real Sega Saturn in Real Life with my own eyes, but have seen a TG16 thing that might have been a Super Grafix once at a Busters. I recall the adds for the Saturn with the Rods and Cones in the Movie Theatre but had gotten my Genesis around that time and was in like 3rd grade so I wasn't into the Console Wars as much. I hope they one day make a Saturn Mini but doubt we'd actually get one, although Bubsy came back so who knows what's possible.
Do you know a PSP game that plays like chess, every time you kill you get exp and then evolves to level up, each player has a monster theme, each player is distinguished by color?
I've been playing almost only Saturn for nearly 30 years now and my favorites would go: 1. Shining Force 3 all scenarios and premium now translated, 2. Street Fighter Alpha 3 port, 3. Saturn Bomberman, 4. Panzer Dragoon Saga, 5. Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, 6. Vampire Savior, 7. Policenauts now translated, 8. Shining the Holy Ark, 9. Guardian Heroes, 10. Dragon Force. I could see Princess Crown cracking my top 10 if it ever gets translated. I think Magic Knight Rayearth is the only "overrated" game on this list but it's because of how legendary the production schedule was for US release and yes I bough it new a year after 99.999999999% of US gamers though Saturn was a dead console.
Maybe Top 104 most popular, that too only in, what, the US? Hardly an actual Top 104. Some of the best games were ranked way too low, and some of the best did not even show up in the list at all (i.e. the Saturn-exclusive Falcom Classics and Falcom Classics II). It's more of a popularity list than anything else.
So, as the video title, opening text and description clearly state - this list is according to *User Votes*. And generally, by definition - the concept of votes tend to reflect popularity.
@@GaryRetroGamer Yes, I didn't miss any of that. Just raising some points, such as the regional factor (which is neither on the video title, opening text nor description, by the way). US, GameFAQs etc.. Just saying. It's relevant for any serious appreciator of the games.
This list was voted on by gamefaqs users, so mostly western Saturn fans. Around 8 JP-only shmups snuck onto the list, and Hyper Duel is a way better game than several of them ... but a lot of people haven't played Hyper Duel. Getting a legal copy has been expensive for a while...
@@Madmya Thanks for answering! I have the Saturn and one of those two "Virtua Cop", but unfortunatly I didn''t play it, so my comment went on the go. I just heard that the N°2 was better graphically, (and it is for sure!). I don't remember having posting this comment.... I must have had been drunk at this time... Like I am now... Sorry for my english. Kiss
Correction: SNK produced the arcade/Neo Geo original versions. The Saturn versions were produced by other developers as correctly specified in the video.
This list just shows how stacked the Saturn library is but come on users, Nights into dream at number 1? GTFOH I wouldn’t put the game in my top 30 for Saturn
Nights into Dreams is my #1 favorite game of all time, on any platform, and I've been gaming since the 70s! It really resonated with a lot of us ... especially the kind of longtime Saturn-loving voters who voted on this Gamefaqs poll. At least you and I can agree that the Saturn library is stacked LOL!
Nights into Dreams. Best game of the 32/64 bit gen. There's absolutely nothing like it on Ps1/N64. The game is extremely deep and addictive once you actually learn how to play. The A-Life is something I still can't believe. Completely amazing.
I've got 263 Saturn games, still my #1 favorite console to this day. If you weren't in the scene back then though, or were only paying attention to western releases, I can see how you'd think the library was small. 192 of my Saturn games are Japanese-imports, because most of the best 2D and niche games unfortunately got stuck as Japan-exclusives, and there were also some other cool games I picked up second-hand from Japan that were really cheap a few years back. If you like 2D shmups and fighting games for instance, the Saturn is amazing -- give it a look!

The Vagrant is awesome - it is indeed a bit Dragon's Crown like - even via its game mechanics. I highly enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for this. It's gonna help me figure out how to navigate my Saturn collecting strategy
Loved my saturn then. Still love it now
Gary doesn't conform and do top lists that are multiples of 10.
Gary is a true renegade ❤️
Ha ha ... actually, it's only 104 because the list I took this from had 104 games on it. You night say I do conform ... but to renegade lists!
Not releasing X-Men vs. Street Fighter stateside was one of Sega's biggest blunders, IMO. I'm SO thankful for the Action Replay cart.

Finally a good list that's not just the same games as always!
Very good and impressive Gary, you're indeed a old skool gamer jahahjah you never disappoint.
Sega saturn is a mood
Do you know a PSP game that plays like chess, every time you kill you get exp and then evolves to level up, each player has a monster theme, each player is distinguished by color?
Everyone had a Play Station, so those who had a Saturn became the popular house to hangout after school.
KOF97 is my favorite game!
So many great titles!
Megaman x4
great 2d system...i remember it cost a fortune in my country.

Killer video! 👊🏻
Great console i never got into until 2019
My favorite Sega console and all time. Have my Japanese console locked and loaded ready to go.
SEGA!!!

Where’s hyper duel,thought that’d be on here?

you repepeat virtua cop at the places 33 and 29. i guess the 29 is the second episode
He mislabelled 33. 33 should be Virtua Cop 2 and 29 is the original.

No Bulk Slash? What??
I know right 😂

The game is unique there nothing like it maybe thats why people like it so much
lol, what. Nights definitely deserves to be in Top 30 of Saturn games.
Nights is among the best games of all time, let alone on Saturn.
dont use auto subscribe on your account you'll get ban sir
what? I've been watching videos on this channel for a while and still not subscribed
I'm surprised there are 104 Saturn games.

1126 games in total ... more than Genesis, N64, X box, game cube, dreamcast and much others actually.
