His nickname was not jimmy it was buster because he liked the 1950's space movie flash Gordon starring buster crab...jimi's mother named him johnny alan Hendrix while Jimi's father was in the army and when he got out of the army he legally changed his name to James after himself who was James alan Hendrix{known as Al} and added Marshall as a middle name dedicated to a brother of Al's who died...i have been a fan since 1971 and have may books and biographies on him.
