  • What's on the inside does matter as much as what's on the outside, of a camper that is...As we did in one of our last videos, we're comparing the 2021 Lance 975 to the 2019 Northern Lite 10-2 Wet Bath only this time we're comparing the interior spaces. These campers both have a lot of great features and we really love them both. Check out our this video and let us know which one you'd prefer.
    Thanks for watching!

Oh but the natural real wood cabinets in that beautiful northern lite and the better insulated roof liner, no question to me, long term it's the better built, cozier camper that will require less maintenance and create less headaches for the owner. I've had them all and for me the northern lite is the camper to retire and travel with. Great video and great smile Carla, you both are doing an invaluable service to new comer RV owners.

Last year we went to Truck Camper Warehouse in NH to buy a Lance. As soon as we stepped in the Northern Lite that was next to it in the showroom we were sold on it. Lance is good. NL just seemed to be better quality and finish. 25000 miles last year on the road and no issues at all.

Thanks for the comparison. I travel with my dog, and I really appreciate how you pointed out how the differences between the two campers affect a dog. I love the northern lite, despite some of the quirks it has. I’m unable to use a slide 50% of the time (I’m a travel RN and on work days I sleep in the hospital parking lot and wouldn’t be able to use a slide in that situation). I like that NL also uses real wood for their cabinetry. Cheers!

I know you like your Lance but personally I don’t think the build quality is anything even close to the Northern Lite. I know you get some cool features that you don’t get with the Northern Lite but it’s hard to beat the construction quality I have a Canadian built camper.
It just seems that all the Canadians like Bigfoot, Leisure Travel Vans, and Northern Lite just know how to hand build an RV to higher quality than these mass produced Winnebago and Lance type RVs. Just my opinion.

It may be a bit unfair to compare a slide camper to one with no slides. I hate the narrow entry hallways of campers that put the bathroom near the entrance. It's nice to have the bathroom next to the bedroom.
Slide campers are more "woman-friendly" by nature especially w/ dry baths but the Northern Lite is an excellent 1-person camper. Thanks 4 taking the time 2 show us!

Northern lite for me and my wife (no dog yet) I just don't want a slide anymore, have had a travel trailer and 5th wheel with slides and had nothing but problems (drafty to in cold weather) But both nice Truck campers! I think the build quality is better with the Northern Lite.

Great comparison and love how you considered Taylor in the review. We traveled just over 9,000 miles two years ago with a Great Dane. Like Taylor, he's family. One thing that You might want to stress a bit more and Todd touched on it, but with the slide in on the Lance it is difficult to access interior. We like to pull over for lunch, or use our bathroom while refueling and not the service station's. Much easier to do in Northern Lite. Your efforts here are the best in the business.

My 2016 arctic fox 1140 is coming apart already and when I called the mfg they acknowledged the problem and blamed it on the bed mat being 1" short and then hung up on me. The 1x 1 1/4" pine frame is cracked on all corners and I am in the process of strengthening it and encapsulating it in epoxy so I can sell it with a clear conscience. I have looked at the Lance and N/L and without a doubt, my next camper will be the northern lite 10-2. My friend just weighed his new arctic fox 9' and it was 5,100 lbs dry. YIKES, no wonder I get 8mpg with my ram diesel.

Thanks for the review. I was wondering how tall the area above the bed was on the Norther Lite 10.2 compared to the Lance models. Since the California RV show has been cancelled, I have to learn from people like you who are kind enough to explain their campers.
That Lance Camper you have has about ~550 lbs more dry weight than what is listed (975 dry weight is 3499) over the std configuration in the brochures. The generator and AC really add a lot of weight. If you travel fully loaded, the fact that the Lance camper weighs 700 lbs more than the Northern Lite could be the difference between having a diesel or gas engine!
    .
Thanks for sharing and I'm envious that you can go out and have some fun now!

Trying to find a late model Northern Lite is difficult today, and new ones usually have a several month wait. That being said, your $37,500 asking price in RV Trader in 2020 would translate into at least $42,500 today, which would sell in a heartbeat. The new ones have increased to around $70K. Wish I had the timing and opportunity to buy yours. I did buy a like new 2020 for $45K.

How much wind resistance and swaying are noticed between the two during travels? The Lance does provide plush appearance on the dinette seating , but the Northern Lite provides the space. The Northern Lite although doesn’t have a slide, overall appears to have an oversized open platform, including plenty of storage and lighter in transportation weight. I suspect based upon weight and aerodynamic, the Northern Lite is more economical for traveling. If Northern Lite still constructs quality trailers (considering improvements are made each year), then overall it appears to be the most appreciated between the two. One major difference is the price. Lance is substantially higher in price and heavier weight with less storage and with the slide closed I suspect it would be difficult to walk through. The Northern Lite is the most practical. The video was fantastic and very resourceful. Thanks.

Just a thought about your shades on the door. Could you attach a wooden dowel rod or flat aluminum bar on the shade latch, then when you open the screen slide, (that allows access to the main door latch), pull the rod down pulling the shade with it?

I believe the NL will retain more value over time. Being built like a boat with minimal care the camper will still look good decades from now. Also it should be mentioned the NL has a 6 year structural warranty. I don't know of any other rv that matches that warranty. Built in propane generators are very convenient but are much louder than the Honda 2000 suitcase generator. The generator compartment in the NL 10-2 easily stores a Suitcase generator with 2 gallon Jerry can and much more.
The upholstery on dinette cushions of the NL could could certainly be of better quality but having said that I do expect the cushions as they are will wear well.

Great idea comparing each section together rather than one camper, then the other. While I really like the idea of slid-outs, I did recently hear someone mention that apparently they do require some maintenance considerations. Hi zx24me, I think they have the same level of insulation being R6 if I remember correctly. They are both considered 4 season campers with heated tanks. I believe they both have 20,000 btu furnaces. We haven't camped in extreme cold in either of them but it has been below freezing a couple times in our Northern Lite and we were good. With the Lance having ducted heat throughout it may actual feel more comfortable instead of just one furnace location where the heat comes out in the Northern Lite. You may want to look at a Bigfoot camper it has thicker insulation and a R8 insulation value plus it comes with a 30,000 btu furnace if I remember correctly. Just a thought. Thanks for watching!

at the end of the day it seems to be bathroom against kitchen. Sure the Lance has a nicer bathroom, but i think you spend far more time in the galley area, so the Northern Lite is clearly a winner there, the kitchen and storage in the Lance is ridiculously small. And having the fridge so close to the bed is odd as it must add some annoying noise at night. And not practical when the galley is on the opposite side of the camper. Also the swiveling TV is a nice touch and can be used in all 3 areas, the Lance doesn't seem to have a TV in the bed area and you can't watch it either while cooking.

NL has dinky windows that don’t open much. Not enough light and ventilation for me. Otherwise very nice!

Here's the thing - there's no perfect unit for everyone for the duration. What works now may not work years later.

@Adventures with Gnomie, that is totally true. When we get finished with truck camping in the future of course, we'll probably go back to a travel trailer. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hello. Do you find the truck camper is more of a hassle to unhook vs the travel trailer (ie the Casita)?

    • @celestepalm6949
      @celestepalm6949 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The time it takes to learn how to load/unload a camper saves you years of parking & backing up hassles you have to deal with any trailer/5th wheel. That's the beauty of truck campers.

@@celestepalm6949 I agree with you. You can also tow a boat or another small trailer behind a camper.

I also tow my Jeep TJ behind, so I have a car to sightsee when near things like Rushmore, or Yellowstone@@jnicksnewstart

Who would give up a Northern Lite for a Lance?
Eventually you will regret the Lance. The slide is more of a pain than an asset. They break and can't use the bath or fridge without operating the slide. That's a huge deal breaker for me.

Plus, a dry bath model always deletes a ton of storage 👎🏻

@@johnn5646 Dry baths are more woman-friendly, it's good to keep that in mind unless you don't have to worry about it.

Knowing everyone would prefer porcelain toilet why oh why wouldn’t lance put porcelain toilets in????

That Lance, although beautiful has a horrible kitchen. No counter space and the fridge too far away. My issue with the NL is they really haven't updated anything in 20 years. Much of what they use was the same as the 90's. I wouldn't go for either of these floorplans. I'm all about dinettes on the campside, kitchen on the other. No compromise
