I can understand this comment in part, but I see your make as an introduction into all the options available from one fabric. The fitting you do to a pattern to get the fitted look you are looking for is an encouragement for all, to see how to go about making a pattern to fit our particular body type-preference of fit. The wearing of dresses is not typical for many here in the states, its as though femininity got lost. You and many other sewists are bringing it back. Personally I love it and enjoy the making of many different things out of the same material. Also patterns are expensive, getting many different looks is such a bonus. Your style is infectious😊
… it’s like I knew this video was coming I had commented yesterday on your previous video… I loooooooove your content!!! Because you looooooove what you make . Because you actually wear what you make . Because I choooooooose to watch . Please , please , just continue sewing for you, for your body for your happiness. Use your time wisely to sew up useful clothes that you will wear, not what your viewers will wear. I think what we like is sewing tips , techniques … your sew alongs have taught me so much . Your fitting tips have taught me so much. You produce fantastic value for content shared. And sadly as in many things in life you will not please everyone, and some people need to stop demanding you adjust for them. Thank you kindly for everything you have shared with me , I for one truly value and completely appreciate your channel just as it is. … hugs , big tight hugs xoxoxoxo have a beautiful day darling xo Mónica
When I read your comment yesterday I knew you'd like this video 😉. I know I can't please everyone and it's futile to try which is why I make content that makes me happy 😊. It is going to be interesting to see what people think of the next few months of videos.
Watching you has made me realise that perfecting a pattern that suits you and you will wear is really satisfying. Also, the fact that making that pattern in different materials looks so different. I have struggled in the past with making things that look good. After following and watching you I now have clothes that fit and look good, maybe only a few patterns but so what! You keep doing what you do, it’s interesting and like having a friend. Thankyou for being you.
Thank you Linda 😊. I 100% agree that a perfected pattern can be a super versatile piece when you utilise different options for sleeves, skirts and necklines. I'm so happy you've found the channel helpful 😊
So I guess this is a difficult thing and it's interesting someone has brought this up and clearly tried to articulate their thoughts in an uncritical way (I hope?), I guess when we start our channels through our hobby and our love of sewing, sewing what you want to wear and finding your own sense of style and what you love is part of the journey and the process and you've perfected your own sense of what you love to sew and wear, does that change when you turn your hobby into a business though? I don't know, I guess some people will want to see 'more' once they learn this is your business and your job as opposed to just your hobby as there becomes a level of expectation of what they're going to get/see whereby they're happy just to see your personal sewing if it's just a hobby and you're just sharing your sewing, I think it will always attract conflicting views, for instance, some of the historical sewing vloggers sew for content rather than for their personal wardrobe because that's their channel/business, do people call them out on that because they're not sewing the latest tilly pattern?, at the end of the day it IS your business and your channel and you are still continuing to grow so you are clearly doing something right, people love what you do so you develop your business/channel the way you want to and only worry about it if the metrics change? there's plenty of sewing content out there to satisfy all genres surely, we don't need to see every vlogger showing us how to sew a french seam for instance so is there anything wrong with being 'typecast' so to speak? hell all I'm making is saltwater slip dresses at the moment, lots of them!, I don't know if I've articulated myself very well as I'm just rambling but I hope I've tried to give a constructive angle! (you can tell me off if I haven't xx)
Your love for the specific vogue pattern was like a lightbulb for me. So while that specific pattern isn’t my taste, the realisation that I *can* just make 20 of the same dress if I want (slowly ; I’m a hand sewer) was something that I’m v grateful for. I haven’t been subbed long but what I’m enjoying is your discussions of how you’re approaching dress 9 versus 6, or seams, or fabric choices. I watch all the sewing channels I do for a similar reason. I have no desire to make an 18th century ball gown and I’ve watched at least three channels make those 😂 I like process, I like things I can listen to as much as watch for when I sew, and I enjoy when people have a one thing they will actually use which you very clearly are.
I am one of viewers who really enjoy your channel. Making a pattern to fit the way we desire it to and to enjoy its style and wearability is one of the reasons we sew. No one I think would come to a person and say “didn’t you wear that yesterday?” Please keep being you. It is a pleasure seeing your makes being worn and not stuck in the back of a closet crying to be free.
That comment and this video made me think as well so I figured I'd write a longer comment. First of all, I think the most important thing is that you enjoy what you're doing because that makes doing this work sustainable for you. I don't know your viewership demographic that well, but at least for me, I enjoy watching you plan and sew your projects. I love the waffles because it's the kind of sewing chatter I never hear in real life because I don't have "sewing friends" and your videos give me that sewing community and sewing friend vibe. I almost never even make big four patterns because they're hard to get and expensive where I live, but I watching you get excited about your projects and sometimes your projects inspire me to draft a similar style for myself because I love how yours turned out. There are other people in the sewing community who I mostly follow for pattern reviews (or just to see people with a similar body shape to me wearing different trendy styles to see which ones I like). That comment gives me the feeling that they would like you to produce that type of content as well, to be more of a "pattern influencer" But as a more intermediate sewist I really love it when people reuse and reimagine how to use their old patterns and just improve on the techniques they have. I think a lot of sewists get to a point where they realize they don't need every new pattern out there, because doing small modifications of already TNT patterns to achieve the same look is a better investment of time and fabric. I think your channel is actually pretty rare in doing that sort of content. I think if you're happy with what you're doing and you keep getting the views you need for your income that comment is not something you have to worry about. It seems like you have a really invested viewer base and I think that's something to be proud of (on top of your sewing skills) 😊
Thank you Cheri 😊 That is a really interesting view point. TNT's are fabulous and I have found myself looking through new pattern releases (Vogue just launched their summer collection today) and thinking "I have something I could tweak to do that!". x
Hi. I am a person who loves sewing black, dark blue, very few prints in my clothes. I like boxy fits and I use the same pattern over and over again. Like you I find satisfactory to adapt a pattern and use it often specially when it fits well and I feel beautiful wearing the clothes I sew. The price for good patterns is expensive. What I like about your channel is the techniques that you talk about that I can use in my sewing, the mix of patterns (with the bishop sleeves that you love so much), the way you care about the fabric you use, the way you are so well organized, planning very carefully what you are going to sew. I enjoy listening to your videos. Elise x
I am just going to say what I tell all TH-camrs. Do what you love and want. Your passion and enthusiasm are why we watch your videos. When TH-camrs start pandering to viewers to get more views is when I stop watching because you stop being you and you lose your passion and enthusiasm for what you do! Please don't pander, keep being you!
IMHO sewing (& knitting) should bring you joy and a sense of accomplishment. Let's face it, luckily, most of us do not have to sew to keep ourselves clothed. Sadly, it's sometimes, not a way to save money on clothing yourself. However, if your making quality clothes and are wearing and keeping them, you are helping keep cheaply, mass produced clothing from going into the landfill. I think your thematic sewing sprees are GREAT!!! Great way to motivate yourself and get through some of your stash. I've been sewing, on a machine, for 49 years and you've re-ignited my love of sewing garments. And have taught this old dog some great tips. I want to be more like you and wear more things I make....getting there. Back in 2020, to sooth my brain, I did a sort through my (factory made) clothing. I spent months deconstructing clothing into new OOAK pieces. And I cleared 25 hangers.
I watch your channel for YOU: your sewing tips, preferences, process, personal style, and discovery. I don’t care if you’re sewing knickers or a dress: I will learn through it and appreciate your process no matter what you choose to sew and create. You keep doing you--and the vast majority of us will happily stay along for the ride.
Your point well made regarding preferred styles and why. Not so long ago I wore suits of varied styles for office wear. I actually owned one pair of trousers, no T-shirts, court shoe styled pumps.... well..... now? Love, love, love my yoga pants, tunics to the thigh, & I'm still re-using my suit jackets. Comfy. Is time to add some floral dresses ... perhaps.
People buy one in every colour on the high street and sewing just opens that door even wider. I have a million patterns i haven't made and a few that I go back to. Not only because I know I will like what I make, but also because the familiar path is easier. I know I find it really hard to start brand new projects sometimes, and I'd rather see you making what you want and feeling good about the results than losing your sewjo because you're doing something you think you HAVE to, and don't want to. Yes, making outrageous or challenging projects can be fun to watch on the internet but whats the point if you won't wear/use it. I feel like your channel has never been based on that. You make things you want to wear and I think most of us follow you because we like your style, and because you take us on the journey with you. You've taught me that when I find something I like, I should embrace it. And that I should definitely buy three colourways of the fabric if I like it.
That was definitely me when I was buying clothes! I had 17 different colourways of an All Saints skirt because I LOVED it so much! I do have some plans for more outlandish projects (I keep chickening out of them but that means the lovely fabric is just sitting there neglected so they will get done!). Thank you xx
@@KittenishBehaviourSian ooh now I am intrigued! It sounds like you've been making a lot of plans lately, looking forward to watching them come to life 😀
I love that you considered and pondered upon the comment, yes things can get repetitive, this is why entertainers have to come up with new content so as not to be boring. However finding one's style and sticking with it is amazing. You can't try different styles like a fast fashion haul. I guess some sewing channels however do constantly keep trying different patterns but they probably won't end up wearing them. We follow the same bloggers by the way, especially Josie.
Such a funny comment because I, too, watch MANY sewing vlogs and I feel that your vlog is different. Most of the UK sewing bloggers are making the same Indie patterns as each other. Over and over again. Sian, I am in the US and I use the big 4 patterns, so I love that you use them, too. I think you have an aesthetic, which I appreciate, I also have an aesthetic, so live and let live. LOL
I like to see repeats. You have lots of new info, even on patterns you have used. You never make us watch every stitch - I'd like more. I never make anything with the fabric on a pattern packet. Sewists need to use some imagination. I have no problem seeing your comments helping me with my no waist, flat rear, little busted self make great adjustments to many patterns. Stay as you are, adding fun stuff you like!
I have recently come to realize that I, like you, prefer to repeat sewing patterns that I know I enjoy and will get lots of wear out of. In the last year I've probably made over a dozen projects with new patterns that I thought looked beautiful... and they just did not suit me, they did not fit, and it really hurt my sewjo to have so many "fails" stacking up. So seeing you repeat patterns, and the ways in which you squeeze multiple projects out of one fabric. Really inspires me to feel comfortable sewing what I like. One of the ruts that I get into, is that I feel like I need to be progressing/ learning something new every project. (Which inspired me to branch out with pattern selection) and it really just stresses me out- so instead I am learning to perfect my construction of a handful of dress patterns I love.
Thank you Sarah 😊 I totally agree with you, it is always great to be learning new things and you can totally do that perfecting a pattern you know and love. There are always little tweaks to make or a different technique to try 😊
I enjoy your content no matter what you're making and want you to enjoy what you're making. I really have enjoyed when you've tried new patterns though, an example being cami fail month, I know it was hard but seeing the "troubleshooting" as a less experienced sewist was really valuable.
Thank you Maria 😊 I think I need to try and strike a balance .......Cami month was me diving in the deep end and sinking 🤣🤣🤣 that second Camila Cami is still cut out and waiting to be sewn up ! I clearly need to do a few TNTs mixed in with a few new to me patterns!
I don't get the least bit bored watching you make a pattern repeatedly. I just enjoy your enthusiasm and I have learned numerous techniques from you. Although I'm not a fan of snakes I do like to see your creations using that print. You need to do what makes you comfortable and have fun. Since I have again started sewing for myself in the last year numerous people have said I should go into it as a business. No, that would take the fun out of it and at this stage of my life that's what I need fun. You keep on doing what you are doing.
Thank you Kathleen 😊 Sewing for others commercially almost killed my love of sewing, I'm so glad my business/channel has morphed in to what it is now 😊
Discovering your channel was a turning point in my sewing. I have learned so much about pattern fitting from you and your excellent sew alongs. I’m no longer satisfied with quickly running up a dress, I want to sew it with French seams and make it beautiful. I love that you return to TNT patterns and am trying to emulate. I love to see you wear your lovely dresses every day. I sew in comfy old tat, but I wear my full skirted dresses for dancing two or three times a week. I hope that one day before too long I’ll have enough to wear everyday… Don’t be put off by the criticism. I watch lots of channels sewing the latest Indie patterns, but I always turn to your channel first! You do you! You’re brilliant! X
I watch your channel for your sparkling personality and to learn the tips and techniques you use. True, I have no desire to wear Cobra Corsage, but neither do I want to make handbags, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy watching you do it. Ignore the haters and do you. ❤️
I love watching your videos simply because of your style but also you work with fabric that I would otherwise not think of using with that particular pattern, ie the French Terry with the Sirocco. MAKE THE JEANS!!!! MAKE DAWN! Do the wide leg not in denim, maybe corduroy or twill instead. You will NOT regret making the Dawn jeans as trousers. I'd love to see your take on them. And just because you don't wear them that often, they are still in your closet and will go with all the tops you've made. A suggestion, maybe bring in your niece and do a "series" perhaps of patterns that you wouldn't use in your wardrobe perhaps? And maybe do a giveaway of the pattern? I just love your videos. I'm very inspired because I have NOT made 31 items this year as I haven't been able to sew in my designated sewing area (as we've just moved to a new home where the sewing room is currently non existent). In terms of answering your questions, I have a lot of t shirts and jeans for work (I'm agriculture). I love sewing jeans, bras, dresses. I do not have enough good clothes for any season as I lost my clothes in a cyclone last year and have had to start again. I also make my own patterns many times over because often I cannot find what I want in a ready made pattern or I'm inspired by something I see in a shop. I also sew for my children (19,16,7) and my husband also gets a few items.
I'm buying the Dawn pattern! 🤣 Just need to pluck up the courage to make them now! I hope your sewing area gets sorted out for you quickly. I'm so sorry about the cyclone eating all your clothes! 😬 You definitely need your sewing area back so you can make yourself some new ones! x
@@KittenishBehaviourSian Thankyou! And I agree because the kitchen table and fighting for space amongst the dumping ground of family stuff is diabolical! I'm very grateful I had the good sense to run up and down the hallway of my house and grab my sewing machines because all last year when we had no house of our own (because it died in the cyclone) and lived elsewhere, sewing was my sanity saver. The "sewing room" now is a transportable room that needs to be transported from our old farm to our new one and fingers crossed I'll get it before Christmas - we are trying to find willing people to transport things and we think one of our new neighbours will do it for us. My stash of fabric is currently housed in a sea container. I'm lucky I got to save much of my stash but my clothes were few and far between even before the cyclone. I'm thrilled you are buying the Dawn pattern. It is completely vintage and retro looking so will fit beautifully into your wardrobe and because it is high waisted, will go fantastic with the cropped t shirts you've just made. I'm about to make a pair for myself in "70's blue" denim and another for my eldest daughter, mixing this up of course and sewing along side of a pair of Quadra jeans for my almost 17 year old son. I think I have managed a couple of pairs of bras this year and that's all😂 - need to do some serious catching up.
As one faithful viewer of your channel… I would watch you sew straight lines and waffle about the straight lines. You have a wonderful personality and are one of the most talented vloggers I watch. I am possible the most terrified of 🐍 person in the world…. But, I watch every garment you make and focus on how beautiful they are made and how they fit you exactly as you want them too. I have learned about the difference in the ease of a pattern and the size they suggest. All that to say… I appreciate all the time you put into your business and this channel. Things change, houses and scenery changes… but, you are the reason we are here. 💕 Diann Harris
I never get bored watching your channel. and I believe that you should sew what ever you want and what you will wear hello. you pay for everything lol its your life and your channel ! Hugs don't worry about what people say .
My experience has been that once we are out of our twenties (perhaps 30s) we know who we are, what suits us, how we want to present ourselves to the world, and what makes us feel we are being true to ourselves. You clearly know what you like to make and wear, and the fact that you have thousands of loyal followers proves to me that your channel is not boring! I am currently in the process of making a third version of a t&t blouse that I have hacked into a dress by adding a gathered skirt section to the bottom. Every version is a bit different, whether because of a different sleeve treatment or waistband/belt variation or embellishment of some sort (today's has a contrast ribbon at various strategic places - epic! 😍) It's a style I like, I feel like me when I wear these dresses, and they make me happy. You always say to us "You do you!" - well, lovely lady, listen to your own advice and keep doing you! Anyone who doesn't like that can watch someone else.
I really enjoy what you do, I enjoy it more when you pop in some different content every now and then, like your sew/get the looks that you used to do. It keeps your channel interesting. I would really love to see you sew some more designer inspired clothing, like your Zimmerman dresses you love so much. Still in your style, but learning new techniques, like how to insert lace and piping often seen in Zimmerman and Alice + Olivia dresses.
I had approached sewing as making a new pattern or design and not really thinking about perfecting something that I love and just keep doing it. Why not. I am now starting to plan projects very differently after having watched a lot of your videos.
If you could see how hard I am rolling my eyes right now. You do use new patterns, and new fabrics all the time. The colors of the Cobra Corsage are lovely and I don't care how many items you make with the same fabric. You have to do a lot of work to make a pattern fit you and if you use the same patterns so be it. I use the same patterns over and over again that I like and that fit me well. And if I have to alter a pattern, I will make many of them. I like what you make, and what is the most important is that you like and enjoy the things you make! HUGS HONEY!
I like your channel just the way it is, I don’t have many ‘sewing friends’ so feel like I’m catching up with a friend. Very much looking forward to all the new collections that are coming, not keen on the cobra corsage but that’s only because of my phobia of them love all the colours and the flowers on it just not the snakes. Keep on being you, if someone doesn’t like what they see they don’t need to watch. X
I have only just discovered your channel so probably too early to say if I will find it too repetitive or not but I am really enjoying it so far. I love the chatty nature of it (as lots of others have said it's that sewing friend that we all wished we had), I am uk based so any shopping recommendations are generally possible, I like the relationship you have with your mum and the occasional knitwear!. I like you style and if I am honest a little jealous that you know our style so well it must make sewing easier! Unfortunately what I like wearing doesn't match the reality of my life so I am still searching! I like the fact that you reflect on things. I look forward to more videos
Watching you has inspired me to try new fabrics and styles. I most always sew with knits and simple lines. The Vogue 8755 is one of the prettiest dresses I've seen and I bought the pattern and order some Lady McElroy cotton lawn and am going to try to make this dress and wear it proudly. I am over 70 and love stylish clothes....florals and very feminine looks.....so......we shall see! Thanks for the inspiration!!!!! Keep doing what you love!!!!
@@KittenishBehaviourSian I ordered the hydrangea and the amaryllis. I will definitely share pics when finished. Bought some batik on sale to make a "muslin" before I cut the GOOD fabric. 😍
I found your channel a few years ago when I was trying to decide if I was going to get back into sewing, and I keep coming back for so many reasons, because it is a nice community led by a very nice person. Because seeing you make something gives me a good idea if I will like something on me or not and what alterations I will need to make, and I like most of the things you make, I like leaves and florals, most of my fabric is florals, solids and a lot of critters (I rescue animals, mostly cats), but most of my fabric is knits because that is what I like wearing the most. Because I understand your tutorials and what you are teaching me to do, so many times I have watched some other TH-cam tutorial and felt more confused than before, but this is also why I want you to try new things so you can show me how to do the confusing bits (elasticated back in woven garments). I am still trying to find my style, so far it’s all over the place, but I have learned maxi length and knits are the thing I reach for the most. No matter whether you make tried and true or new to you, it will be awesome, but doing both is where you get the most fun out of sewing.
No, not everything you make appeals to me, (we are all individuals) but I love your enthusiasm and enjoy watching anyway. You always make it interesting and chatty and I've learnt so much from you. I found you from your NCW tutorials quite a few years ago now and wouldn't have stayed if I didn't still find your channel interesting. I tend to binge-watch as I don't always get the time to watch when your videos 1st come out but always look forward to seeing what you've been up to. Most TH-camrs have a "Theme" isn't that why/how we find them in the 1st place? You carry on being you and we'll carry on enjoying your channel 😀💚🧙♀
Really interesting discussion. I think, given that this is a business for you and that you make more clothes than most people would, that you can afford to have more “fails” (experiments) so that your peeps can see other patterns and fabrics, even if they are not your go to patterns/fabrics. However, even if you didn’t change your approach I would still watch every video of yours because I love the waffle and the way that you have welcomed all of us into your life!
That's a really interesting idea, I'm definitely up for making more calico mock ups but I have my fabric stash to the point where there are no real "Wearable Muslin Fodder" pieces in there; I LOVE everything. I'm really trying to restrict my fabric purchasing too.....a few years ago I wasn't really sure what I loved so I bought many different things.....now I try (try being the operative word) to only buy fabric I know I will love and wear. I need to buy myself another roll of calico as I have used up the last 20 metres on muslins. 🤣🤣
I don't have any friends that sew and I think I watch all of your videos because it's like having a conversation with friends who sew! I love your style and you have inspired me to find my "me" patterns 😀 thank you!
🧵You do you! Your vlogs are an inspiration, not necessarily to copy slavishly, but to adapt and amend to everyone’s individual style & preference. Also love your chatty style, it’s like coffee with a sewing buddy!
As I have said on your live we mostly make the things that suit us and mainly the same patterns. But I can also see what the comment means. It's a catch 22 situation do you just make things for you and miss out on new subs, it's upto you really. I am old and only just found my style in my new size. Same patterns for trousers, tops and blouses. Dresses more difficult! Best of luck xxx
Thank you 😊 totally agree with the catch 22 thing, I don't want to make things I know I won't wear as it seems wasteful but I do want to be a little more adventurous! Hopefully I can strike a balance over the next few months! We shall have to see 😊
I've lost count of the money I've wasted trying the latest patterns because they look great on other people! These have never lasted in my wardrobe and I just gravitated back to the skirt/dress patterns that do stay in my wardrobe. All my dresses currently are made from one pattern and it's not difficult to change it slightly. I love them and wear them, the oldest being made about 8 years ago. I did make earlier versions but the fabric choices weren't 'me' so didn't keep them. Although I don't share your style, I find your Channel more relatable than many others because you know your style and stick to it, with the odd new thing chucked in every now and then. Same goes for your fabric choices, no point using fabrics you don't love, where's the fun in that! To me, making things just for content if you don't get any use from them is a waste of time and resources.
It's not just about what you Sew that makes you successful is you, your personally and you chatting that makes us feel like you are just talking to each and everyone of us. Take care XX
You should be sewing what you want to sew and wear simples. You do try new patterns but when you sew a thing you love in a fabric you love your happiness and enthusiasm just shines through and definitely helps lift my mood if I'm a little low. Your videos are my go to on bad days so thank you for what you do I for one will be very happy with whatever you do. Take care xxx
I’m really proud that you’ve reflected on a constructive comment because it’s important that we challenge ourselves and be self reflective 🥰 you are fabulous and we love you sharing your sewing life with us, so thank you. Make what makes you happy!! I TOTALLY agree that if you invest hours and hours in fitting one pattern you absolutely should make as many of them as you want!! You do YOU - that’s what you would say to us 🥰🥰
I have to make a FBA and sway back adjustment to everything I make. I am still learning, it’s a lot of effort to get a ‘fit’. So I appreciate that you go back to your T&T’s. I attend a sewing class ( more of a sewcial class) and occasionally am envious of the ease that people who are closer to the ideal block have with trying new patterns. I am leaning towards perfecting fit in a few and making alterations from there, so thank you for showing how satisfying that can be.
I love playing a game of guess the print... leaves or cobra corsage! I'm often wrong but it makes me giggle that you use the same/similar prints on manh items. That's what most of us do in our wardrobes, although for many people it's just an array of similar style black clothing. I love that you have found styles, patterns and prints that you're confident with. Your confidence is rubbing off and I've bought my first garment pattern to try. I love love love your channel and even my other half recognises your voice from the kitchen and shouts, "is that Sian kitten I hear? Leaves or snakes today?" 😂 Whilst I appreciate that your commenter may feel frustrated and respect that they shared that with you, please don't change your content! For the majority of your viewers, we're happy when you're happy. It's comes across on screen and wraps us up like a warm hug from a friend xxx
You do you! The joy of TH-cam is that you can watch lots of different vloggers. I don’t see your channel as repetitive, but I do think you have a very clear style and that’s what we know we are getting from you. I love the chatty nature of the vlogs.
It's an interesting one isn't it because they're not wrong and neither are you... I guess it depends why people watch the content they do - I will never make 90% of the patterns you make or buy any of the fabrics because I like form fitting block colours and i hate big skirts and florals 🤣 I still never miss a video though because I don't see the point of your content as being to 'sell' me those things. I think it's great that you're having the discussion though because I do think there is a balance between "it's your channel do what you want" and an awareness of what the audience you're attempting to draw in wants
There are many sewing videos made by other people that have a different slant in their style and preferences. Your fans follow you because they like your style and your approach, and consider you to be an online friend who can give them good sewing advice and recommendations. I believe you are doing that in spades and very prolific, and as I understand it you accept possible selection from paying patrons. That makes your videos an enjoyable must watch for me and many others. Don't change, keep up the good work!
I found your channel because of the Anna dress - my nemesis that I still want to make. If you didn’t go back to the same thing I might not have found you. I have mentioned before that I wouldn’t chose many of the fabrics or the patterns you use, however what I get from your channel is the inspiration to try some different things (at least three patterns and three fabrics bought in the past six months inspired by you) and loads of tips that have really helped to elevate my sewing.
I jump around in my crafty sewing space here on TH-cam. I love the different things people do. I lost my sewjo and have been hand sewing things to keep my brain alive. But I’m a happy pattern repeater. I make petticoats, Edwardian walking skirts, shirtwaists, vests and the like. But I’m branching out and currently building my foundations for my 40’s and 50’s shirt dresses, jumper skirts, pinafores, and blouses. I have a dirndl pattern that I have planned to use some Tula Pink cottons for. This was meant to be an answer for you but I’m wandering right now in my head. I love that you love to make your own clothes. I love that you don’t make clothes that you won’t wear. I aspire to get there as well. I aspire to be overdressed at home in my sewing room.
Oh Sian I love your channel and I’ve learnt so much by watching you. I have lost count of how many sew over Betty dresses I’ve made I love them all and the style and shape suits me so why change. Keep being you xx
One of the things I enjoy a lot about your channel and your process of sewing is watching you go through finding a pattern and perfecting it over a few iterations. It is very satisfying to watch and helps me with my own sewing motivation when the first project with a pattern isn't quite right (yet!). I have wished to see you dig your teeth into non-dress projects which I think would be lovely on your channel. I would love to see a video on wide-legged woven trousers, knit cropped cardigans (not all of us have a lovely QQ to knit us things), how you "bag out" garments, and so on. I love your technique videos and would love to see more of them.
Thank you 😊. Wide legged trousers, cropped cardigans and bagging out a top are all great ideas. (I am actually filming the construction order of bagging out a top right now, it should be out next week).
Do what you love. Love what you do. You can't please everyone so you might as well please yourself. I love your channel. I don't even sew that much but I love to watch your videos because they are fun and enjoyable. They wouldn't be if you were making things you didn't want to make.
Hi Sian I have been watching your vlogs for a couple of years …. I enjoy all parts of your channel and feel like you are a sewing friend… I appreciate what you make and your skills …. Life is short do what gives you joy 💙❤️🇦🇺
I watch your channel every day simply because I enjoy watching you. My style is very different to yours and dare I say, I’m not keen on the cobra corsage....but it doesn’t matter because it’s you who inspires me. Just watching you work is a joy and I love seeing you try on the clothes you have made. Absolutely love the waffle and I have adopted your saying “it’ll be fine”, which of course it always is 😊
I agree on your comment of tweaking patterns to get a perfect fit….. it is time consuming indeed. But once perfected I can just grab it and sew it up, so why not continue to use it 😊. Yes a lot of your styles are not for everyone, but it’s your techniques and enthusiasm that encourages us. 😉
I love your videos. I would never had considered a fabric with snakes, till I saw your makes with cobra corsage. I ordered a yardage of it and am trying to decide what to make with it. It's GORGEOUS! Keep doing what you do- I for one, will keep watching.
@@KittenishBehaviourSian I got the blush colorway of cobra corsage and I love it! Now I am afraid to cut in to it, as it's just soooooooooooooooo precious. Want to make sure I choose just the right pattern for it.
I really enjoy the mix of new things and T&T that you already do. I won’t lie, cobra corsage isn’t something that I would wear, but I think that the joy you get out of it is charming and I understand why you have made so much of it. Looking forward to the leafy collection. Keep up what you are doing and I will keep watching!
I watch lots of sewing vlogs and most people make the styles they prefer for themselves, what is the point of making your own clothes if you feel uncomfortable when wearing them. I am always interested in what people are making but in a lots of cases I would be never dream of making the style for myself. The point is that you watch to learn and be inspired and be part of this wonderful sewing community. I love your vlogs , to me they stand out as being varied in content and always inspirational even if I would never wear a full skirted dress, you look great in them and that's all that matters.
You do you, I love seeing your cobra crosage collection and have finally treated myself to some, now I just have get brave enough to cut into and turn it into wearable garments.
I do understand where the comment is coming from. I think your channel is different to me than other channels that are sewing related that I watch. And I think that it works for you and that through your videos you show that with how happy you are to sew each piece that you do wear in future videos. I found your channel a while ago and came back again recently on recommendations so have been watching some of the last months of videos. Overall I don't think it is generally our decision to what you sew. Like you mentioned its difficult to fit patterns from those mass produced patterns. So getting one to fit is really good and then actually wanting to make the same thing again I think really shows something about the pattern. And also making a piece from a pattern that you would never get use out of wouldn't be a good idea. Since its kinda wasteful to you. It would be interesting if you sewed patterns that are for specifically others. But understand thats not what you are going for either for the most part it seems. I do like that alot of your videos are not all showing the same sewing information. Most of them are the waffles (which I just realized earlier this week what that mean to you and your channel. Haha) and are you in your sewing space getting what you need done. I will say I do like the bag making content that you had. (I noticed some are older than when I originally started watching and didnt come across them earlier. So I have went back and watched some of those). Also 8 new patterns to you is alot for 6 months. Plus all you have new for the rest of the year.
Thank you Michelle 😊 I did used to make commissions for other people (5 years ago and there are videos of those) but it wasn't paying the bills and was super stressful. There are more bag videos coming up very soon 😊. I'm so glad you are enjoying the channel 😊
I like your channel because you make your every day clothes...and you realy ware it. And you show how the fabric behaive on your body...i like that learning...and i like to see how difrent 1 pattern looks just because of the fabric type or print. I do not have a lot of money so i realy have to make good desision...so if i see 1 pattern and you show al your diffrent versions...i can think oh that pattern and that fabric is realy nice for summer...because you realy share...so i can save money for good fabric..and for me it made a real diffrents in my end results...so for me your channel has a nice balans on new and repeat. I stil love to sew me some jeans and ware thame til bare thread. So i gigle when i hear its not your happy place to sew theme. And i love that you have sometimes your mom on and shows her blouse or dress or you tel that something was not bang on for you but was for your mom ore bigbird. I like that real life way.
Thank you so much 😊. I love that my multitudes of dresses have helped you narrow down what will be perfect for you. 😊 Mum and I are planning another "Mum Look Book" soon as I think she has got the garment sewing bug back!
@@KittenishBehaviourSian oh thats cool. And because of your show of penny inn and the other wallet i dare to take the step to make the penny inn...and have it now for a couple of years and its in havy jus. I can not even make a simple tote bag😅. My penny is allso not perfect some how i put something wrong site out. But its fully functional and i get compluments on how cool and pretty it is. Probebly gif you a gigle that i can sew a pair of jeans but can't handle a simple tote bag😅. Oh and gif your mom a big compliment on her beautiful knitting (i allso knit, love that part allso if you show that as wel in your daily ware. I like fabel knitwear antiquitybluse). Cant wait for your moms lookbook🤩
I love your channel ❤️. I have found your projects very Interesting. I would love to see you sew different items but as you said this is for you and I appreciate that. Bye from Canada 🇨🇦
I’m still in the lookout for my TandTs but when I find them, I’m definitely making them in multiple! I like that you remake favourites as you often tweak them for fitting which gives me a lot of info and inspiration for fitting my own makes. Keep up the great work! 😊 x
@@KittenishBehaviourSian I think they could actually!! Although I need to make some adjustments and wish I’d just made the one for I could wear it and consider the fit properly lol 🤦🏻♀️ x
I think the fact that this is your job only makes it more important that you do it in the way that's most sustainable for you. I stick to the same couple of things I'm happy in with jeans/trousers and tops, but still don't really know where I am with dresses, and part of what's holding me back is how hard the experimentation phase can be. It's expensive, but it's also really tough mentally to be repeatedly casting an assessing eye over myself in the way it requires. And having that "no, yuck, wrong" feeling rise up inside me when what I'm looking at just hasn't worked. I say that as someone with no real body image issues; I feel like with enough fails in a row, I'd be in danger of developing some! I don't know whether you find it that difficult yourself, but I remember how you lost your joy a bit when a few experiments didn't work out - was it the cami tops? - and I think avoiding that where possible is very important. Burn out is real. - ✨🐐
Thank you Neve 😊 yes the Camisole Month was not a great one ...... I made a TNT to get through that funk. Also the trousers I tried last year were hugely disheartening. I can appreciate that I may have got stuck in my comfort zone though and a little experimentation might be worth another try 😊
Hi Sian. I think you should make what you want, in what fabric you want.✌️ I rarely make fit and flare dresses but I love to watch your vlogs because it’s not about what you make but your process and approach and I love hearing you talk about things you’re passionate about. I like that you don’t make things others are making -that’s your USP! 💖 Keep up the good work.
Oh, I just watched to the end so thought I’d add to my comment. I haven’t really found my style yet as I have changed size over the past few years and I’m relatively new to sewing so I’m currently going through an experimental phase! I hope that I will reach the point where I have a clearer idea of what I enjoy wearing, like you, but I also enjoy playing around with silhouettes so we’ll see if I land on one particular style. 😀 And I also wanted to add that I loved your waistcoat and your fitting process with that. It was so inspirational and I’d like to make something similar. But if you just stick to dresses, I’d watch anyway for the reasons given above. I don’t watch many of the lives ‘live’ because I’m always busy but often do later and love to hear you chat. Like others have said, it’s like having a sewing buddy as I don’t have one in real life. ❤️
Thank you Nadia 😊 I hope you enjoy the process of finding your style (I can highly recommend the Curated Closet). Thank you for being a part of this channel 😊
I throughly enjoy your channel I love what you make, lots of these styles would never suit me, but Learn something with every video. I did like the times you put up the vote for the peeps to pick the pattern. It was fun seeing if you liked the new style and how you want about tackling a new pattern is li,e a refresher course on how to do it. Ultimately you have to love your style. I have found as I get older 69 and counting I am always questioning if I dress too young. My daughter's tell me dress how I want and what's comfortable. If my mother were a alive she would say dress your age. In a nut shell be all have to be happy, I just enjoy my 15 to 40 min visit with you watching whatever, but something different once in a while is the spice of life. I hope one of these days I will get to London when you are having Goldhawk meet up, but it would be helpful with a longer lead time for booking flights etc. See you soon
Thank you Linda 😊 Voting is a Patreon perk (not suggesting that you have to join Patreon!) I'm a little (8 patterns) behind on the voted for schedule but I'm getting there 🤣 I agree with your daughter! Dress in what you love and makes you feel comfortable 😍. I will try and plan the next GHR Meet Up in advance....it will probably be in November 2022.
Well, I do watch you because what you create does spark inspiration for me. The comments regarding, to put it in another way, “same song, second verse” I would say yes that’s true. However, you’ve found your groove, what looks good on you and in fabrics that you like and makes sense to your lifestyle. I tend to choose a classic, feminine type of garment. I love flowers. A-line skirts, straight legged one wide legged pants, collared, button down blouses, stuff like that. I;m tall and curvy and these silhouettes do well for me. I will go off this vein on occasion, like sweatshirt pullovers in the fall and winter. I will say that I do see you experiment some, as you’ve said. I try to go beyond what I’m comfortable with, however this tends to be counterproductive and wasteful. One thing I want to point out to others. Please be careful when inserting that word, “should”. As in, “you should be doing this.” Or, “you shouldn’t be doing that”. The word should create guilt in ourselves and others. Just something Ive learned and has helped me.
I love your videos, and I only recently discovered you!! It's been fun binge watching. And I'm surprised this question was asked because, as other commenters have mentioned, this is YOUR wardrobe and you make what you love to wear and WE ARE ALL STILL HERE. I only wish I knew myself as well as you know your tastes :) I have a question, however; and this is curiosity and not criticism. With the addition of as many items as you make/put into your wardrobe, how do wear them all and how do you decide?!? There are only so many days in each year, lol (though I LOVE the idea of midday wardrobe changes :))
Thank you Alex 😊 I do have a lot of clothes (way more than I need I know) it does making getting dressed fun though! I definitely have "favourites" that I gravitate towards and they tend to be the dresses I then make multiples of as I wear them so often. It is rare that I'll wear more than one outfit in a day though 😉🤣
P.S. I haven't made a floral dress in a long time and those were for my children, but now when I get into a fabric store I am determined to find something that I will love and wear from a tested pattern. That's how you have influenced me, and I am back sewing again because of that!
Selfishly I've been a little disappointed that you haven't had more videos on setting up your sewing planner, but then I realised that they might not be as popular as your sewing content.
You should make what makes you happy. You are the one paying for it and the one who has to wear it. I live watching your videos. I like Jersey dresses for me in funky prints. I have a reputation in my office for wearing them. They make me happy and I'm comfortable all day 😌
Firstly, I follow you because I don't have any friends who sew and when I see a new video or hangout I feel I'm amongst friends. Your style is not mine, but I've always liked that you have one, and I have seen other sewers who create and create and then you never see them wear the majority of their makes again. All patterns are expensive and apart from special occasion clothes I think you should make as many versions of a pattern as you want (I'm currently on my 7th Roscoe!). There will be things that you don't want to make, mine are jeans, bras and gloves, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in watching someone else making them.
Hi Sian, I’ve been a follower for years. I enjoy joining you and hearing your journey. I’m not a fit and flair person and never will be, a flair skirt is not my style, however, I still enjoy your content, as does the individual who commented. I do appreciate your quest to get tops to fit as I do like close fitting and a synched waist. I do understand the comments made, the thought did fleet across my mind too the other day (being honest). I think maybe it appears that way due to the repeat fabric; I have a few meters of the cobra myself, but I have missed the variety of your beautiful stash. I also loved the sweatshirts you made a year or so ago in all the amazing stretch prints and contrast cuffs. I also really enjoyed the camisoles your tried, and while not a great success, it’s was a very interesting journey and I felt it very educational for a fellow sewist. Ive also loved seeing the new silhouettes on you recently and have commented on such as and when. I agree, I wear jeans 95% of the time and have zero desire to make my own, I don’t think I’ve really seen any me made that I love. I reckon when your get back into wearing jeans you’ll be making more tops anyway. I appreciate the beauty of your dresses, the construction and most importantly how they make you feel. The grouping of fabrics perhaps has become a little anti-climatic and not so engaging, although I continue to watch and enjoy. Hope this helps to balance your viewer base feedback. Melissa :) Oh and loved the recent bags too. I’m waiting for the large shopper / tote Kittenish Behaviour one sew along
Thank you Melissa 😊 that is a really thoughtful comment. Cobra Corsage really wasn't meant to drag on as long as it did and I totally appreciate that it did become a little monotonous. For me it was a push to finally sew up the fabrics I'd been hoarding for years 🤣.....I will totally keep this in mind for the next collections and see if I can narrow them down and streamline a little. You will definitely like "Geeky October" as I have plans for quite a few different sweatshirts using printed panels and colour blocking. Thank you for sticking with me whilst I've been working through the snakes! 😊
I'm on to my second pair of 'Dawn' jeans by Megan Nielsen and I love them to pieces and absolutely recommend them. Wonderful fit, excellent pattern and so totally doable to create your own jeans. Excellent pattern. 😀
@@KittenishBehaviourSian I tried hand embroidery on the pockets of my latest pair, inspired by your first ever bag (bag video)... although they aren't flowers like your first bag, they're wee Gnomes lol but your video gave me the idea. Imagine flower pockets on your jeans.. could be beautiful huh? Really good pattern (Dawn) and it comes with 4 different style of jeans too. I chose straight leg but will experiment with the others later.
@@KittenishBehaviourSian totally understand and being a fan I know what a crappy start to the year you had. Ooooo, I’m already looking forward to those!!
Thoughts: I like watching your channel because you use the patterns I like to use, you reference the yutubers I have followed for years, and I like having some chatty company while doing crafts and my hubby is playing guitar in the other room. Opinions: while it would be nice to see other things, currently I'm quite happy with your channel. I like the little branches like the jumpsuit. But I'm mostly hear for the stitch and b*tch
I think it’s your channel and you’re making items for you that you want to wear and fabric is expensive, so you should make whatever you want as many times as you want. It’s fun to see what you make!
I don’t know that I would wear the cobra corsage but I’ve loved seeing all of the different things you can make out of one print. And I have loved seeing all of the deer and doe patterns. It’s been fun seeing you dive deep into that pattern company. That being said I like seeing your tnt because it’s interesting how a different fabric can make a pattern look different.
One persons art masterpiece is another's garbage. To me the whole point of TH-cam is that there is a variety of choices. If we admit that we are voyeurs' then we should not judge others for their channels. TH-cam and Netflix etc. is about escapism and entertainment with options for everyone's taste. I watch many different sewers because each has a unique style of vlogging, patterns, style and personality. As we all do whether we vlog about it or not. If we truly analyse ourselves we do have a preferred clothing aesthetic and are drawn to that whether sewing or buying. You are like a sewing friend who chats with me. My best friend wears mainly solids and never florals, I am the opposite, it certainly does not mean that we do not enjoy what each other wears. To each their own, and own what and how you wear something. Plus body shape comes into what looks and feels good. Just keep being you. Life is too short not to have fun however you can and wear whatever makes you happy. We sew for many reasons and you are sharing that with us, hence the success of your channel. xxxxxxxxxxx
I understand what that viewer was trying to say, but you have a very distinct body type that is particularly difficult to fit, and I think of all the different body types there are, is the most difficult to style as well. The only thing that could make it more difficult would be if you had either a short waist or short legs to go along with it. I used to be pear shaped, but not quite as dramatic of a difference between my hips and waist as you (and short waisted too)and know how difficult it is to both style and fit that shape. Strangely enough, I gained over 100 lbs. and was much happier with my shape then, than I was when I was slim, because my waistline grew and things suddenly fit my proportions. It was easy to find clothing that fit and looked good on me because I fit the standard block, and most styles looked good on me. I think most people fit into that more generic category, and don't understand how difficult it is to find patterns and styles to fit when you have dramatic differences between your body parts. Now I have lost over 60 lbs (on keto) and my shape has changed again so I am bigger in the waist and bust and smaller in the hips (so strange) and its a whole new learning curve to make things that fit well and look good. I know though, that when I lose the rest of my weight, I will be closer to an hourglass shape and will have to find a new style again. But I'm waffling. My point is, if you have a specific, rather than generic shape (like when I gained all that weight), you have no option but to dress that shape. You are lucky enough to have found that fit and flare dresses look great on you, as does cinching in the waist snugly, and that is what you need to do. A sheath dress would look like a sack on you, but looks great on me at the moment. I can't wear big skirts with gathers, so that is why I watch you. You look like a princess in your lovely swishy skirts and gorgeous prints. I follow other vloggers because they have similar shapes to me, but I follow others still, because they are so different from me and I love to see what they wear and how they go about making things fit their unique shape. The fact you sew what you do, alone makes your channel interesting (well, that and your fun waffles and lovely personality.) You also need to sew up prints that excite you because you will be the one to wear them. You didn't enjoy sewing for other people when you used to do it, and that would be the only way to sew styles and prints different from what you make for yourself.
Constructive criticism here - I would like to see some different tops other than the Anna top. I have a top similar to the Anna top - which I love, but I do not wear it all the time as I like variety. I know the Anna top is great for using up remnants of fabric. But there might be some other tops that will be good for using up remnants. I would also like to see some other of your unused patterns sewn up. Maybe try a vintage pattern. Vintage patterns can be fun, because their patterns instructions can be limited or strange, not to mention they usually cover only 1 size and may not have the patterns drawn onto to patterns. Alot of vintage only have holes on their patterns - which makes cutting and sewing the garment a puzzle. Sewing a vintage pattern might be useful for a hangout, as you will get suggestions from other people on how to tackle it.
Thank you for the ideas. Trouble is I have spent a good 2 years trying to find a top I like that takes less than a metre of fabric and after many many disasters and wastes of fabric it was only last November that I got the Anna to work for me. I will have to have look through my vintage stash and see if I can find one that appeals 😊
🇨🇦😃 I don’t have the same style or taste as you at all but I love everything you put up because of all the little bits and pieces I learn from it all… also it makes a community for those of us without inperson sewing communities… I LOVE how happy your makes make you and I have learned a ton from you! Thank you Sian for sharing your life with us
You introduced me to cobra corsage & I envy your access to Lady McElroy as we have no stockists in NZ. My first cobra corsage arrived yesterday from Australia after 5 weeks due to postage errors. You can do what you like and sew what you like. You have said you sew so many dresses as you do this as it’s your full time job. If the subscribers are your customers then you would want to direct your content towards them to grow your business. I don’t know how utubers receive income, so you would know best how to grow your utube business if that is your aim. But if your aim is to make dresses you love you should do that and the by product is many subscribers will love seeing them. I know that if I want cobra corsage and fit and flare I will watch your channel but if I want more variety of styles and different fabric brands I will watch other channels. By the way you were the person who relaunched my sewing in 2021. I wanted a Dolce and Gabbana dress but couldn’t afford one so I googled lookalikes or something to that effect and your channel appeared , so thank you - now I am addicted to sewing and their is no turning back -still haven’t made the lookalike but I found some real Versace deadstock.
Well said and echoes my own thoughts. Like you I am a Kiwi and so wish we had access to many of the fabric designers here without needing to take out a small mortgage for shipping 😖.
Haha, having taken out that mortgage in shipping to get the Versace fabric to NZ I haven’t decided what to make and I don’t want to muck up!! A shirt with a dramatic flounce or a sun dress, the fabric can go either way. I will have lightbulb moment one day. 😃
The commenter has no life but get you to entertain them. We watch because opening our eyes to fit, taste, heck, artists work in series like this all time, kinda consider you the artist of fit and flare, working in all the colors, makes sense to me. You’re fine, Sian. Thanks.
Thank you Anna 😊 some great ideas there that I will make a note of! I manage to wiggle myself in to my dresses and get the zips done up by myself mostly and occasionally if I need the help .....Mum or Dad! 😉🤣
Love to follow your enthusiasm - it gives me major sewjo. So as you often say: "you do you"! At the same time, choosing one profile for your channel obviously means you won't be doing "all the other stuff".. but I think that's a good thing. Without your enthusiasm it wouldn't be as fun for us as what you're doing now. As for suggestions - I've just had a colour analysis done and experienced with Kibbe body styles - found it really thought provoking. Would be really fun to see what kind of sewing inspiration or frustration that kind of analysis would give you :-)
Thank you Elin 😊 I shall have to look in to the colour analysis and Kibbe body styles. I really enjoyed the Curated Closet workshop so they will be interesting 😊
Siân, thank you for introducing this thought provoking topic for discussion. If a thumbnail/video title is not of interest to a viewer, perhaps another video might be. I find value from techniques/methods you share that I can apply to my own sewing. No matter one's age or skill level, I also think there is value in learning to develop a personal style that makes one feel comfortable, confident and happy. I only buy patterns I like, know I'll wear, and versatile enough to sew more than once. Not having friends who sew IRL, I rely on you and other vloggers as virtual friends I can share sewing with. I enjoy seeing your beautiful makes and hearing about your sewing plans. I truly appreciate the time, effort, financial investment, and bravery it takes for you to create content for your channel. Hugs from your Florida friend-who loves Cobra Corsage, calls all leaf prints Siân fabric, and enjoys watching you make lined wool coats (but will probably never make one).
I love watching you, and have been doing so from here in Kenya for more than 4 years. I love a good floral print and a lovely swishy skirt so watching you sew has been a joy. But I do also long for a bit of variety. I love your perspective on making sure your clothes look lovely on the inside as well as the outside. I just want to say that all the cobra corsage (specifically) practically did me in. I wait for your videos, but with the cobra corsage I would have to skip over the sewing bits and just watch the waffles - which I really enjoy. I think maybe the thing you could think about would be to diversify into making things for some of your loved ones - maybe a couple of shirts for your dad or Wilson so you could show us some shirt making techniques, Something for your mum, cos her style is a little different than yours etc. You could even, maybe once in a while -maybe every few of months or so - make a garment for one of the patreon peeps that's out of your comfort zone as a giveaway/reward./competition. I mean the options are out there for how you could add diversity without sewing clothes for yourself that you don't love. So much love for your channel from here in Kenya.
The beginning of this year has not been great. Wilson and I are no longer together and I got some really bad news from the hospital so everything slowed down whilst I tried to deal with it and Cobra dragged on! Mum prefers to make her own pieces (with my help; we are planning on making a dress together soon and I will be filming that process) and Mum also makes Dads shirts! I used to make garments for others remotely and it was so stressful it nearly killed my love of sewing so I am reluctant to start doing that again. Thank you for all the ideas and sorry I've shot them all down 😬 I will think about ways of bringing in different types of sewing that still work for me. Thank you for your comment 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm sorry that this year has not been kind to you. Last year was a pretty bad year for me so I can relate ( i got a very bad bout of sharona and lost four people who were very dear to me. I'm still kind of reeling from it tbh. I hope that everything figures itself out and that you will find new sources of joy. Keep on. We all keep coming back because we enjoy your lovely chats and all the wonderful tips and tricks that you share.
Fit and flare is not my style, nor is cobra corsage my favourite fabric design, but it doesn't have to be. I swing by the channel for the odd sewing tip, a catch up with the waffles, and the live hangouts are great company. I think your channel is at it's best when you are being creative and getting joy out of your sewing. It's great to see you have your sewjo back and I see your tried and true patterns leading you to your creativity and giving you pleasure, both making and wearing.
Thank you Cynthia 😊I truly hope that people do take away little bits of information or ideas from my videos to make their own "perfect" wardrobe.
… hugs , big tight hugs xoxoxoxo have a beautiful day darling xo Mónica
well said 🥰
When I read your comment yesterday I knew you'd like this video 😉.
Thank you Rachel xx
Thank you so much 😊 which has been your pattern of choice that you are now working on?
I am one of viewers who really enjoy your channel. Making a pattern to fit the way we desire it to and to enjoy its style and wearability is one of the reasons we sew. No one I think would come to a person and say “didn’t you wear that yesterday?” Please keep being you. It is a pleasure seeing your makes being worn and not stuck in the back of a closet crying to be free.
Thank you Mary 😊 it does bring me great satisfaction that I love wearing what I make 😊
That comment and this video made me think as well so I figured I'd write a longer comment.
That comment gives me the feeling that they would like you to produce that type of content as well, to be more of a "pattern influencer"
But as a more intermediate sewist I really love it when people reuse and reimagine how to use their old patterns and just improve on the techniques they have.
It seems like you have a really invested viewer base and I think that's something to be proud of (on top of your sewing skills)
😊
Thank you Cheri 😊 That is a really interesting view point. TNT's are fabulous and I have found myself looking through new pattern releases (Vogue just launched their summer collection today) and thinking "I have something I could tweak to do that!". x
@@KittenishBehaviourSian that would be a cool video. Tweaking an old pattern to fit a new.
Elise x
Thank you Elise 😊 I'm so glad you find some of my waffle helpful 😉
I am just going to say what I tell all TH-camrs. Do what you love and want. Your passion and enthusiasm are why we watch your videos. When TH-camrs start pandering to viewers to get more views is when I stop watching because you stop being you and you lose your passion and enthusiasm for what you do! Please don't pander, keep being you!
Thank you Amber 😊
Thank you Monique 😊
I watch your channel for YOU: your sewing tips, preferences, process, personal style, and discovery. I don’t care if you’re sewing knickers or a dress: I will learn through it and appreciate your process no matter what you choose to sew and create. You keep doing you--and the vast majority of us will happily stay along for the ride.
Thank you Cara 😊
LOL
Thank you Marie 😊
I loved hearing your thoughts Sian. This vlog sure inspired a lot of thoughtful comments!
I like you being you. This is what makes your channel so interesting, you!
Thank you April 😊
I saw that comment and thought it very rude. We watch and come along for the journey because we love what you do. Don't change xx
What a fabulous response and discussion. You have wonderful, invested subscribers ❤️🎉
I hope that one day before too long I’ll have enough to wear everyday…
Don’t be put off by the criticism. I watch lots of channels sewing the latest Indie patterns, but I always turn to your channel first!
You do you! You’re brilliant! X
Thank you Clare 😊
I watch your channel for your sparkling personality and to learn the tips and techniques you use. True, I have no desire to wear Cobra Corsage, but neither do I want to make handbags, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy watching you do it. Ignore the haters and do you. ❤️
Thank you Nicole 😊
Thank you so much for ignoring all the snakes Diann! 😊 I'm so glad you are enjoying the channel 😊
Thank you Mara 😊 please share your blouses in the Peeps group on FB we'd love to see them 😍
@@KittenishBehaviourSian if I can get the tech to work I'll do that! 😊
Please don’t change for us. We should all be appreciated for who we are. The skills and knowledge we get is wonderful! Thank you!
Thank you 😊
I really enjoy what you do, I enjoy it more when you pop in some different content every now and then, like your sew/get the looks that you used to do.
HUGS HONEY!
Thank you Flo 😊 x
I like your channel just the way it is, I don’t have many ‘sewing friends’ so feel like I’m catching up with a friend. Very much looking forward to all the new collections that are coming, not keen on the cobra corsage but that’s only because of my phobia of them love all the colours and the flowers on it just not the snakes. Keep on being you, if someone doesn’t like what they see they don’t need to watch. X
Thank you Jaime 😊 and thank you for putting up with all the snakes!
Thank you Emma 😊
Watching you has inspired me to try new fabrics and styles. I most always sew with knits and simple lines. The Vogue 8755 is one of the prettiest dresses I've seen and I bought the pattern and order some Lady McElroy cotton lawn and am going to try to make this dress and wear it proudly. I am over 70 and love stylish clothes....florals and very feminine looks.....so......we shall see! Thanks for the inspiration!!!!! Keep doing what you love!!!!
Thats fantastic that you are branching out with happines.
@@Macasmum Thank you!!!!!!
Thank you Mary 😊 which print did you buy? I hope you share your make when you have finished it 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian I ordered the hydrangea and the amaryllis. I will definitely share pics when finished. Bought some batik on sale to make a "muslin" before I cut the GOOD fabric. 😍
Those prints are some of my favourites 😍😍😍😍
Thank you Kenzie 😊 I can highly recommend the Curated Closet book and workshop. I'm so glad you are enjoying all my waffle 🤣😊
Thank you Karen 😊
Really interesting discussion.
I think, given that this is a business for you and that you make more clothes than most people would, that you can afford to have more “fails” (experiments) so that your peeps can see other patterns and fabrics, even if they are not your go to patterns/fabrics.
However, even if you didn’t change your approach I would still watch every video of yours because I love the waffle and the way that you have welcomed all of us into your life!
Exactly.
Thank you Melinda 😊 x
🧵You do you! Your vlogs are an inspiration, not necessarily to copy slavishly, but to adapt and amend to everyone’s individual style & preference.
Also love your chatty style, it’s like coffee with a sewing buddy!
Thank you Lyn 😊
Thank you Nikki 😊
And I love your enthousiasme and your love of creating that is the essence of your channel! Elise
It's not just about what you Sew that makes you successful is you, your personally and you chatting that makes us feel like you are just talking to each and everyone of us. Take care XX
Thank you Angela 😊
Yes, I would like to see you make up the Deer and Doe patterns and any other patterns you have.
I'm working my way through the Deer and Doe 4 out of 9 complete so far 😊
You should be sewing what you want to sew and wear simples. You do try new patterns but when you sew a thing you love in a fabric you love your happiness and enthusiasm just shines through and definitely helps lift my mood if I'm a little low. Your videos are my go to on bad days so thank you for what you do I for one will be very happy with whatever you do. Take care xxx
Thank you Christine 😊
Bonjour ma belle... love your style... can't wait to see those leaves! Christine 😺🇨🇦😺
You do YOU - that’s what you would say to us 🥰🥰
Thank you Lauren 😊
I have to make a FBA and sway back adjustment to everything I make. I am still learning, it’s a lot of effort to get a ‘fit’. So I appreciate that you go back to your T&T’s.
I attend a sewing class ( more of a sewcial class) and occasionally am envious of the ease that people who are closer to the ideal block have with trying new patterns.
I am leaning towards perfecting fit in a few and making alterations from there, so thank you for showing how satisfying that can be.
Thank you 😊
I love playing a game of guess the print... leaves or cobra corsage! Leaves or snakes today?" 😂
Whilst I appreciate that your commenter may feel frustrated and respect that they shared that with you, please don't change your content! For the majority of your viewers, we're happy when you're happy. It's comes across on screen and wraps us up like a warm hug from a friend xxx
Thank you Nicci 😊 x
You do you! The joy of TH-cam is that you can watch lots of different vloggers. I don’t see your channel as repetitive, but I do think you have a very clear style and that’s what we know we are getting from you. I love the chatty nature of the vlogs.
Thank you Evelyn 😊 x
It's an interesting one isn't it because they're not wrong and neither are you... I guess it depends why people watch the content they do - I will never make 90% of the patterns you make or buy any of the fabrics because I like form fitting block colours and i hate big skirts and florals 🤣 I still never miss a video though because I don't see the point of your content as being to 'sell' me those things. I think it's great that you're having the discussion though because I do think there is a balance between "it's your channel do what you want" and an awareness of what the audience you're attempting to draw in wants
Thank you Rebecca 😊. It was a very thought provoking comment. I'm so glad you enjoy the channel even though you have a totally different style to me 😊
I 100% agree with Rebecca, well, except the part about big skirts😂; other than that, she said what I was thinking!
Thank you Elizabeth 😊
I found your channel because of the Anna dress - my nemesis that I still want to make. If you didn’t go back to the same thing I might not have found you. I have mentioned before that I wouldn’t chose many of the fabrics or the patterns you use, however what I get from your channel is the inspiration to try some different things (at least three patterns and three fabrics bought in the past six months inspired by you) and loads of tips that have really helped to elevate my sewing.
Thank you 😊 x
Thank you 😊 x
Thank you Rose 😊
I watch sewing videos while I sew and yours is one of my favorites.
Thank you Cynthia 😊
Hi Sian I have been watching your vlogs for a couple of years …. I enjoy all parts of your channel and feel like you are a sewing friend… I appreciate what you make and your skills …. Life is short do what gives you joy 💙❤️🇦🇺
Thank you Sue 😊
I watch your channel every day simply because I enjoy watching you. My style is very different to yours and dare I say, I’m not keen on the cobra corsage....but it doesn’t matter because it’s you who inspires me. Just watching you work is a joy and I love seeing you try on the clothes you have made. Absolutely love the waffle and I have adopted your saying “it’ll be fine”, which of course it always is 😊
Thank you Tilly 😊 It will, indeed, be fine! 🤣😉
Thank you Sandra 😊 I totally agree, there is nothing better than knowing you have a TNT to go to if you've had a couple of flops.
I love your videos. I would never had considered a fabric with snakes, till I saw your makes with cobra corsage. I ordered a yardage of it and am trying to decide what to make with it. It's GORGEOUS! Keep doing what you do- I for one, will keep watching.
Thank you Theresa 😊 which colourway did you get?
@@KittenishBehaviourSian I got the blush colorway of cobra corsage and I love it! Now I am afraid to cut in to it, as it's just soooooooooooooooo precious. Want to make sure I choose just the right pattern for it.
I know exactly what you mean! I hoarded mine for so long so this collection was a great way of getting me to actually sew it up!
Thank you Laura 😊
I watch lots of sewing vlogs and most people make the styles they prefer for themselves, what is the point of making your own clothes if you feel uncomfortable when wearing them. I am always interested in what people are making but in a lots of cases I would be never dream of making the style for myself. The point is that you watch to learn and be inspired and be part of this wonderful sewing community. I love your vlogs , to me they stand out as being varied in content and always inspirational even if I would never wear a full skirted dress, you look great in them and that's all that matters.
Thank you Glenys 😊
You do you, I love seeing your cobra crosage collection and have finally treated myself to some, now I just have get brave enough to cut into and turn it into wearable garments.
Thank you Jenny 😊 which colourway did you go for?
I just really like all your videos.
Thank you so much 😊
I enjoy sharing in your process and ideas.
Keep doing you!!! I enjoy your videos.
Thank you Suzanne 😊
I’m still in the lookout for my TandTs but when I find them, I’m definitely making them in multiple! I like that you remake favourites as you often tweak them for fitting which gives me a lot of info and inspiration for fitting my own makes. Keep up the great work! 😊 x
Thank you Gemma 😊 how do you like the Myosotis dresses you made? Might they become a TNT? I'm about to start on my version 😍😬
And I also wanted to add that I loved your waistcoat and your fitting process with that.
Thanks Sian. I’ll check out the Curated Closet! 👍😀
Thank you Amie 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian No such thing as too much! 😍
I like seeing your techniques, and I love how you know what suits you! Carry on!
Thank you 😊
P.S. I haven't made a floral dress in a long time and those were for my children, but now when I get into a fabric store I am determined to find something that I will love and wear from a tested pattern. That's how you have influenced me, and I am back sewing again because of that!
That is so lovely to hear Elizabeth 😍 thank you
Selfishly I've been a little disappointed that you haven't had more videos on setting up your sewing planner, but then I realised that they might not be as popular as your sewing content.
I got too carried away with and set up the whole year in 2 days 🤣😬 I am planning on doing a flick through soon though 😊
You should make what makes you happy. You are the one paying for it and the one who has to wear it. I live watching your videos.
I like Jersey dresses for me in funky prints. I have a reputation in my office for wearing them. They make me happy and I'm comfortable all day 😌
Thank you Stephy 😊 Funky print jersey dress are fabulous 😍😍
Sew what you love, I love watching your waffles and sew alongs.
Thank you 😊
Firstly, I follow you because I don't have any friends who sew and when I see a new video or hangout I feel I'm amongst friends.
Thank you 😊 I really need to have a look at the Roscoe Blouse 😍
I think I am going to have to give them a try aren't I?!
Thank you Kathleen 😊 I'm so glad I get to keep you company whilst you craft 😊
I think it’s your channel and you’re making items for you that you want to wear and fabric is expensive, so you should make whatever you want as many times as you want. It’s fun to see what you make!
Thank you 😊x
I don’t know that I would wear the cobra corsage but I’ve loved seeing all of the different things you can make out of one print. And I have loved seeing all of the deer and doe patterns. It’s been fun seeing you dive deep into that pattern company. That being said I like seeing your tnt because it’s interesting how a different fabric can make a pattern look different.
Thank you RachelLynn 😊
We sew for many reasons and you are sharing that with us, hence the success of your channel. xxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you Alexandra 😊
Thank you Linda 😊 I hadn't even thought about that aspect of it! Thank you for sharing your perspective 😊 x
Constructive criticism here -
I would like to see some different tops other than the Anna top.
Thank you Sian for sharing your life with us
Thank you Anessa 😊 x
Thank you 😊 Ohhhhhhh I want to see the Versace deadstock fabric now 😍😍. What are your plans for your Cobra Corsage and what colourway did you get?
Well said and echoes my own thoughts. Like you I am a Kiwi and so wish we had access to many of the fabric designers here without needing to take out a small mortgage for shipping 😖.
Haha, having taken out that mortgage in shipping to get the Versace fabric to NZ I haven’t decided what to make and I don’t want to muck up!! A shirt with a dramatic flounce or a sun dress, the fabric can go either way. I will have lightbulb moment one day. 😃
@@silk_n_vintage_etc2643 and until the lightbulb moment strikes you get to play with the pretty pretty fabric 😍
The commenter has no life but get you to entertain them. We watch because opening our eyes to fit, taste, heck, artists work in series like this all time, kinda consider you the artist of fit and flare, working in all the colors, makes sense to me. You’re fine, Sian. Thanks.
Thank you 😊
I love your channel, your style is very similar to mine,
Thank you Anna 😊 some great ideas there that I will make a note of!
Thank you Laura 😊 I love that leafy fabrics are "Sian" fabrics 🤣
Thank you Liz 😊
Its also more sustainable to reuse patterns and to make what you want to wear rather than something which will sit in the closet.
Agreed Maggie 😊
