I have just recently started to listen to Journey and Steve Perry’s solo albums after hearing my dad play some of their songs every now and then. My gosh they are incredible! I love love LOVE Perry's voice so much.. I just watched a TH-cam video of It’s Over and his voice is absolutely beautiful in it. Even from a teen in the 21st century, Steve Perry is my favorite artist . . . even including his newest album (he still has it!) Thank you for this video, so cool to be listening and seeing someone who has worked with The Voice himself.
There is no greater rock singer than Steve. I have loved him for more than 40 years. And he doesn’t have to make scrunch faces when he sings because he can just sing, it’s effortless.
Steve, you have one of the finest voices I have ever heard. I started listening in the 70s, and I am still listening today. You're still amazing. May God bless you for blessing us with your music.

@@ForrestMcD I’d have to say my favourite song is Open Arms, but it was a tough choice. Love Escape and Frontiers pretty equally. Just can’t pick a favourite. I have never had the opportunity to see Journey in concert. ☹️ I have never been blessed to meet Steve, but next time I’m in California maybe I’ll run into him. Things are opening up for travel, so who knows? I live in Canada, but I have a sister in Nevada. Steve certainly deserves all the accolades out there and the Kennedy Center Honors is one of them. 👍🤞

He had just turned 26 I was 25 we had such a good time together. Since I wrote the song I may be bias but I think Steve's vocal on It's Over may be his best recorded performance. Steve is the greatest rock singer ever. I love the others like Boston, Foreigner and more but Steve is it for me. How he can hit those notes in the 6th octave with ease is beyond me. Sliding from chest voice to falsetto and back down in perfect pitch is mind boggling. I'm still in love with you Steve and your beautiful voice.

Iva, it's so funny that you say that about leaving with Steve if he ever came to you. I've had two husbands who have had to agree to this, also. I've been in love with Steve since I was 17 years old in 1978. I was able to meet him in 1983 and he was so sweet and I wanted to marry him. Well, that didn't work out. My husband says to his golfing buddies that if the 3 of us (hubby, Steve and I) were in a room, that I would totally forget about him and do naughty things to Steve right in front of his face. Absolutely incredible talent. It truly blows me away that one person can hold this level of vocal mastery. My parents- born in ‘73 and ‘74-grew up with Journey/Steve Perry (according to my mom, my grandpa would listen to Oh Sherrie all the time and would play along with his guitar). Luckily for me, as a result of their love for the music of their youth, I was also “Raised on ‘80s,” despite being born in 1998. I listened to Journey/Steve passively throughout my childhood and I knew a lot of their music, but I didn’t really *know* them. How I ended up falling in love with Journey’s sound is a long, but funny story that I won’t tell here-but Steve Perry’s voice IMMEDIATELY held me captive. I love to sing with all of my heart, so the inhuman vocal gymnastics he was able to perform while maintaining an incredible, rich sound (while running around the stage, no less) has me enraptured any time I listen to any of his music (which is often!). I am gobsmacked over and over at the ease with which he sings-especially when I listen to one of his pretty much flawless live performance. Whenever I blast S.P.’s music in my car and really engulf myself in his sound, I get the chills. I don’t think any of us will see another vocalist that is gifted with the same level of raw, unadulterated talent as Steve Perry in our lifetime. I wasn’t alive yet to see him perform in person, so I am grateful for the advent of the internet age, which has made watching and listening to the recordings taken at Journey/S.P. performances way back when-before I was even a thought-as simple as tapping my phone’s touch screen. I look forward to listening to whatever Steve puts out in the future! As my fellow millennial/Gen-Z-ers would say: I will “Stan” Steve Perry and his talent ‘till the end :) Thank you for sharing these awesome stories!! Your storytelling took me back to a time I never experienced myself. What a special time to be alive. Much simpler. A lot more heart :)

I saw Steve Perry and Journey sing live in Philadelphia in 1983. I was 19 years old. No words, only feeling can describe that love and extreme joy I felt as the sound of Steve's voice and his rocker group's guitars were coming out of those speakers into the air all around for miles! ❤️ You never forget it! And what girl didn't seriously think she might have a chance of Steve loving her if she could meet him face to face on that stage! 🤗☺️ ( I knew I was close enough in age that he "might" choose me. )☺️🌹 Oh well..... There have been quite a few replacements for Steve Perry on Journey, although very good singers that can't never be equal to Steve. That is why anytime you hear Journey on the radio the vocals are always of the incredible mister Perry.

This is awesome.. I was born 1978 but I grew up to his music bcoz my uncle is a fan of journey-has cassette tapes and vinyls that time.. if theres a time machine, i will definitely travel to one of his concerts and meet him there🥰😘🤗💕❤️

Since I wrote the song I may be bias but I think Steve's vocal on It's Over may be his best recorded performance. Tony Carey complements Steves improv on the piano and made a hook from it. I started listening to Journey in the 70’s with my mom when I was around 7 years of age and I love the original journey still to this day . In my 20’s in the 90’s everyone tripped that I would put journey on right after something like Alice N Chains . They just never understand the power of Mr Steven Perry 😁

Great video. Steve perry has been my favorite singer since the second I heard him on the infinity album. But I wasn’t exactly sure that he could pull it off live and then our band went down to Salt Lake when they were playing down there. I think it was in 79 for the evolution Album he was backstage he was strumming a bass sitting on a stool with a cuppa tea teabag hanging out of the cup. I just stood there listening to him in disbelief. I could not believe what I was hearing. He introduced himself we all knew who he was. He was super cool. We talked for a few minutes. He strummed some notes, sang warming up for the show. we left and I was so blown away. I still listen to him every day. I truly believe he’s one in a lifetime.
Razor, I had the same reaction when he invited me to his moms house to Jam in late 1975. He was playing drums and singing and I was playing guitar. We played a bunch of covers then I played 12 of my songs. As I was hearing him sing each song I was saying to myself. Man this guys is good, he is really good, wow this guy is great. The other day one of his fans wrote and said my song It's Over that Steve sang 27 takes on is her favorite song. I am glad you got to experience his great range and personality in person. I even have my grandchildren interested in Steve & the old Journey! As for favorite album? Hum... Infinity, Raised on Radio and Traces. I've never met Steve or seem him in concert sadly! But I've been in love with his vocals/ range for years even now. Oh hell, him too! 😆 I love how he harmonizes with the music during the guitar solos etc. Amazing range! Steve's song have been with since young love days, got me through a very horribly violent marriage only to start a new until a recent life changing diagnoses and still his music carries me on! He deserves the Kennedy life time achievement honor most definitely because I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's leaned on his music to simply survive and to resurrected again to carry on!

Hello! Just scrolling on a snowy night and came across this. People have described their feelings about Steve and his music in so many ways. I have to agree with every single one. My own-he touched my soul from his. Even back in ‘81 at the Escape Tour concert, I held back tears at the sound of his voice. Listening to Traces tonight, I feel the same way. Technical voice teaches love to dissect it and put it into a category. I know better. It’s a window to another mystical world that he lets us into.

@@ForrestMcD Hello. I can’t really say I have a favorite song. I love them all. His solo stuff and with Journey. My favorite album (with Journey) is Infinity but closely followed by Evolution and Departure. My favorite solo album by him would have to be Street Talk. Just classic Steve. I never had the privilege to see a live show or meet him in person. Sure would have been awesome. I had a terrible childhood and softly listening to the radio late at night was something that “took me away” and the first time I heard his voice come on was something different to me. I’m sure it was Wheel In The Sky and from then on I couldn’t wait to hear him again. I don’t know what it was. I think (for me anyway) he sounded like he was hurt too but it sure helped me. It would be wonderful if he could be acknowledged for his singing and songwriting with such a prestigious honor. He is unique. Thank you.

@@ForrestMcD Right now, I have Journey's Greatest Hits. When I was young, I had Escape. I loved Don't Stop Believing and Who's Crying Now as a kid, and still do. They just don't get old for me. But it's like all the songs I like with Steve Perry as front man, are my favorite. It's just a great rock-n-soul sound. Lights, Separate Ways, Faithfully, Any Way You Want It,....etc, they're all awesome. Unfortunately, I have never been to a concert of his/Journey's. I don't do well with crowds, bad nerves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I've never met him either. He has "it", simply classic, unique, and timeless.

I have just recently started to listen to Journey and Steve Perry’s solo albums after hearing my dad play some of their songs every now and then. My gosh they are incredible! I love love LOVE Perry's voice so much.. I just watched a TH-cam video of It’s Over and his voice is absolutely beautiful in it. Even from a teen in the 21st century, Steve Perry is my favorite artist . . . even including his newest album (he still has it!) Thank you for this video, so cool to be listening and seeing someone who has worked with The Voice himself.

He had just turned 26 I was 25 we had such a good time together. Since I wrote the song I may be bias but I think Steve's vocal on It's Over may be his best recorded performance. Steve is the greatest rock singer ever. I love the others like Boston, Foreigner and more but Steve is it for me. How he can hit those notes in the 6th octave with ease is beyond me. Sliding from chest voice to falsetto and back down in perfect pitch is mind boggling. I'm still in love with you Steve and your beautiful voice.

Iva, it's so funny that you say that about leaving with Steve if he ever came to you. I've had two husbands who have had to agree to this, also. I've been in love with Steve since I was 17 years old in 1978. I was able to meet him in 1983 and he was so sweet and I wanted to marry him. Well, that didn't work out. My husband says to his golfing buddies that if the 3 of us (hubby, Steve and I) were in a room, that I would totally forget about him and do naughty things to Steve right in front of his face. Absolutely incredible talent. It truly blows me away that one person can hold this level of vocal mastery. My parents- born in ‘73 and ‘74-grew up with Journey/Steve Perry (according to my mom, my grandpa would listen to Oh Sherrie all the time and would play along with his guitar). Luckily for me, as a result of their love for the music of their youth, I was also “Raised on ‘80s,” despite being born in 1998. I listened to Journey/Steve passively throughout my childhood and I knew a lot of their music, but I didn’t really *know* them. How I ended up falling in love with Journey’s sound is a long, but funny story that I won’t tell here-but Steve Perry’s voice IMMEDIATELY held me captive. I love to sing with all of my heart, so the inhuman vocal gymnastics he was able to perform while maintaining an incredible, rich sound (while running around the stage, no less) has me enraptured any time I listen to any of his music (which is often!). I am gobsmacked over and over at the ease with which he sings-especially when I listen to one of his pretty much flawless live performance. Whenever I blast S.P.’s music in my car and really engulf myself in his sound, I get the chills. I don’t think any of us will see another vocalist that is gifted with the same level of raw, unadulterated talent as Steve Perry in our lifetime. I wasn’t alive yet to see him perform in person, so I am grateful for the advent of the internet age, which has made watching and listening to the recordings taken at Journey/S.P. performances way back when-before I was even a thought-as simple as tapping my phone’s touch screen. I look forward to listening to whatever Steve puts out in the future! As my fellow millennial/Gen-Z-ers would say: I will “Stan” Steve Perry and his talent ‘till the end :)

I was 19 years old. No words, only feeling can describe that love and extreme joy I felt as the sound of Steve's voice and his rocker group's guitars were coming out of those speakers into the air all around for miles! ❤️ You never forget it!

There have been quite a few replacements for Steve Perry on Journey, although very good singers that can't never be equal to Steve.
That is why anytime you hear Journey on the radio the vocals are always of the incredible mister Perry.

I started listening to Journey in the 70’s with my mom when I was around 7 years of age and I love the original journey still to this day . In my 20’s in the 90’s everyone tripped that I would put journey on right after something like Alice N Chains . They just never understand the power of Mr Steven Perry 😁

Great video. Steve perry has been my favorite singer since the second I heard him on the infinity album. But I wasn’t exactly sure that he could pull it off live and then our band went down to Salt Lake when they were playing down there. I think it was in 79 for the evolution Album he was backstage he was strumming a bass sitting on a stool with a cuppa tea teabag hanging out of the cup. I just stood there listening to him in disbelief. I could not believe what I was hearing. He introduced himself we all knew who he was. He was super cool. We talked for a few minutes. He strummed some notes, sang warming up for the show. we left and I was so blown away. I still listen to him every day. I truly believe he’s one in a lifetime.
Razor, I had the same reaction when he invited me to his moms house to Jam in late 1975. He was playing drums and singing and I was playing guitar. We played a bunch of covers then I played 12 of my songs. As I was hearing him sing each song I was saying to myself. Man this guys is good, he is really good, wow this guy is great. The other day one of his fans wrote and said my song It's Over that Steve sang 27 takes on is her favorite song. I am glad you got to experience his great range and personality in person. I even have my grandchildren interested in Steve & the old Journey! As for favorite album? Hum... Infinity, Raised on Radio and Traces. I've never met Steve or seem him in concert sadly! But I've been in love with his vocals/ range for years even now. Oh hell, him too! 😆 I love how he harmonizes with the music during the guitar solos etc. Amazing range! Steve's song have been with since young love days, got me through a very horribly violent marriage only to start a new until a recent life changing diagnoses and still his music carries me on! He deserves the Kennedy life time achievement honor most definitely because I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's leaned on his music to simply survive and to resurrected again to carry on!

Hello! Just scrolling on a snowy night and came across this. People have described their feelings about Steve and his music in so many ways. I have to agree with every single one. My own-he touched my soul from his. Even back in ‘81 at the Escape Tour concert, I held back tears at the sound of his voice. Listening to Traces tonight, I feel the same way. Technical voice teaches love to dissect it and put it into a category. I know better. It’s a window to another mystical world that he lets us into.

@@ForrestMcD Hello. I can’t really say I have a favorite song. I love them all. His solo stuff and with Journey. My favorite album (with Journey) is Infinity but closely followed by Evolution and Departure. My favorite solo album by him would have to be Street Talk. Just classic Steve. I never had the privilege to see a live show or meet him in person. Sure would have been awesome. I had a terrible childhood and softly listening to the radio late at night was something that “took me away” and the first time I heard his voice come on was something different to me. I’m sure it was Wheel In The Sky and from then on I couldn’t wait to hear him again. I don’t know what it was. I think (for me anyway) he sounded like he was hurt too but it sure helped me. It would be wonderful if he could be acknowledged for his singing and songwriting with such a prestigious honor. He is unique. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see the band live and I never had the privilege to have met him. That would have been a wonderful opportunity!

@@ForrestMcD Right now, I have Journey's Greatest Hits. When I was young, I had Escape. I loved Don't Stop Believing and Who's Crying Now as a kid, and still do. They just don't get old for me. But it's like all the songs I like with Steve Perry as front man, are my favorite. It's just a great rock-n-soul sound. Lights, Separate Ways, Faithfully, Any Way You Want It,....etc, they're all awesome.
Unfortunately, I have never been to a concert of his/Journey's. I don't do well with crowds, bad nerves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I've never met him either.
He has "it", simply classic, unique, and timeless.

One of my many favourite solo songs of his is Missing You because whenever I listen to him singing it, I think of my Dad, who unfortunately has passed away! I have nominated the most emotive singer that I've ever heard, many times, to receive a much-deserved Kennedy Centre Honor and I will continue to do so! I will never stop believing in him!
