  • Matthew makes a stout set of hinges for the Toyota FJ40 Series Landcruiser. If your interested in getting a set, here's some ways to contact him...
    Website: www.mcdesignesoffroad.com
    Email: 1969fj40@gmail.com
On www.ih8mud.com his handle is: 69LC
    His Ih8mud business page: forum.ih8mud.co...
A word of caution, the hinges are a bit of a bear to install. Easily seven bananas. After speaking with Matthew, and ordering a set of Quick Hinges, I told him I would do an install video to showcase the product a bit. In typical wrong way fashion I struggled to get the job done. But I am genuinely impressed with what Matthew made. And at a price under used hinges on eBay run, its worth considering on your next build or current ride.
Special thanks to my brother Aaron. He helped me get the show off the ground, created the intro, music and logo I use for this show. I’m lucky to have him as a brother. Check out his instagram @aarondraper.
This show is an attempt at humor. Im not a professional, and it should be clear within the first few minutes of every episode. I’m trying to give it “the old college try”. Learn with me, most importantly, learn what not to do. Im building the Landcruiser to be my driver, and overlander. I have a 2012 Honda Accord I drive every day, and its a soulless journey each time.

I took skin off my knuckles when taking mine out too! So I sent Jack's hand up and remove the last couple bolts!🤣 I definitely know the feeling of just wanting to do something different every now and then, very cool product!

Some times it is nice to step back and do something cosmetic work that helps you to envision the damn thing going down the road LOL. That keeps you motivated. One can get so caught up in the mechanicals that a project seems endless. I swear if you can design a part for these things you can retire! Cheers

For the top bolt on the passenger side there is a cutout in the glove box, at least on my 1968. You reach right through the glove box with your wrench. It is a lot easier than what you were trying to do. Way to persevere, though. Never give up!

S.O.R. has a full kit for each door, well at least they did. I got mine last year. Very pricey. From the research I've done, and talking to fellow Mudders, all the other gaskets, you can get away with aftermarket gaskets. Also there are a few different web site for parts but one that has been good and they are oem items is toyotapartsdeal.com.
Are you on I8mud? I would like to sent a p.m. for some other points of interest. Also when the gang was over to install the motor, which year fj60 front motor mounts did you use. Later for now.

I like that you took the time to change things up. You gotta get some easy wins like these along the way or you'll get burned out. I did things like replacing the shifter knobs and antenna meanwhile I knew darn well that there were other way more pressing things that needed doing. Good for you. At 16:34 it proves that you apparently you didn't concentrate enough on your weak sphincter! Do you have any plans for half doors? I have some Bestop vinyl ones on my 40 right now but bought some fiberglass ones that I need to get installed. I did an unboxing video on Mud when I bought them. I might make an installation video, you have inspired me, but I hope I don't need to re-do it 5 times to get it right ;) NOT that there's anything wrong with that! I'm still hoping someday to cut some spare steel doors I have into half doors, but I'm afraid of Project Wrong Way-ing them!

Curious what you’ll do for a door swing limiter. Definitely don’t want a strong gust of wind to slam your door into your fender. I have a ‘77 that has the limiters built into the doors and are definitely not easily removed. Maybe earlier years are different? Dig the shirt by the way.

    • @projectwrongway9127

I’ll probably run the stock ones for now. Maybe some straps or something down the road? I pulled them off and rebuilt them, new hardware and paint plus a new bushing (fuel line). Should work alright, and when I get a second set of doors, go from there.
