What blows my mind is the squirrel associated the bottle with water and used body language to ask for it. Incredible!
I said the same thing. Squirrel definitely knew what was in that bottle and how to ask for it

I guess Moma squirrel knew the bottle held water as she had observed humans and learned through her observations.

The way it drunk the water tells how thirsty it was!! They are shy creatures but it came up to ask you for water, that's awesome.

@@Pandallum001 Did I say anything about giving a squirrel alcohol or did I say microplastic? 20 years down the road, when we actually learn how harmful plastic is, we are all going to look like barbarians with how we drink and eat food out of plastic containers. And plastic bottles of water are one of the biggest culprits.
Just like the way we look at the 50s and the way they used lead, mercury and asbestos all the time before they learned how harmful it was, that is the way we are going to look back at us and the way we used plastic.

No. It's domestication. People have probably been giving it water from bottle many times over. Therefore the squirrel has associated bottles with drinkable water.
Just like when people give bread to pigeons, they don't realize that they're actually domesticating them. They cease to be wild animals at this moment.

The boy says _how do I give it the water_ and then the guy grabs the bottle, likely being cautious just in case it bit etc, I wouldn't want my son doing it either, just easier for me to do it. But yes, either way, the kid was going to do it... 👍🏻

Obviously, I'm speaking in a hypothetical. But so are you. You know nothing about anyone, but you assume. You're easily impressed. I get it. Don't get me wrong, I found this video to be very sweet. I like it a lot. But I'm not so disillusioned as to think a person is special for responding to an animal, literally begging for something. That's a basic response. We're screwing the water up so bad all you need to hurt with is fresh water in west Texas. But it's cheaper than corn. And better for the deer. The corn has so much insecticide its not safe to eat any more 😢.

The squirrel has had water from a bottle before. Clearly recognised the water bottle being carried as water to drink, and made quite clear by gestures that she wanted some.
Momma clearly needed more to drink to feed her young more milk. Great thanks for the kind people.

I’d bet this is the rim trail of the Grand Canyon. With so many visitors, millions, lots of squirrels exhibited this begging behavior. Probably imitating other squirrels that got free food rather than actually begging for help. Saw one squirrel on a guys knee as he fed it nuts. Signs everywhere not to fed them as it could lead to animal bites as they are still wild animals.

Don't know if you ever been through Central Park but squirrels like that actually live there. Those squirrels will stand literally 3 inches away from human foot traffic and give zero phuqs.
What really impressed me is how it not only understood that this container had water in it, but it also figured out very quickly how to communicate it's desire to a human being using body language.

Well, many squirrels live in urban areas like cities or towns. They have been around humans long enough to realize that we don’t really pose much of a threat. However, if you touch or get too near a squirrel, they will run.
I guess they don’t like us coming near them but are okay when they come near us. I’ve had this happen many times before.

Na, once they are used to people they don't really care. When I was a life guard at a water park there were a ton of fat squirrels just laying around or sitting on their asses while peolle were just walking passed them. They were like those monkeys in Thailand where they come up to people when they want junk food 😂 it was nice of thmmek giving it water

Omg this might be one of the coolest things I've ever seen...and sweetest ❤️ that little squirrel must have been desperately thirsty or he has been handled/helped by humans before or both. My mom has rescued two squirrels before . First one was in North Carolina It was injured. I honestly don't remember what happened to that one. I know she kept it in a cage for a long time and would take it out and play with it, but I cannot remember if she eventually let it go or if it eventually died. But the last one was in Maryland where we stay now and that one was a baby that was all by itself. She took it in. Taught it how to collect nuts and hide them for winter and she eventually gradually let him go. At first he kept coming back every day then it was less and less. Then he was gone for a whole season and she was worried that something had happened to him. But then he showed up again and that's how it's been ever since. He comes around for a long time every day and then during the cold season. I guess he goes in hibernate and then he's back when it starts to warm up again. Comes right up and eats out of her hand

Afterwards I'm taking some dates down to a couple horses a little ways away.

I know this because I once rescued a baby squirrel and the only reason I was able to find it is because its mom made sure I got her attention and got me to follow it to where the baby was…

I was on the driveway sitting in the car and heard the squirrel making loud noises and running back and forth on the roof until it got my attention.
I got out of the car and then it ran across the other side of the roof to the edge and kept making noises.
It turns out the baby squirrel fell down the gutter and was all the way down at the bottom and stuck in the duct.
I grabbed a ladder, put on some gloves, grabbed the baby squirrel and took it back up on the roof to its mom.
The mom then came up, grabbed it and took off…

It’s so cool how a squirrel knows how to communicate to a human instead of communicating with its tail which is the most common way a squirrel communicates with another squirrel.

They try chittering and waving their tails at me to say something but I'm not sure what they are saying. I felt as if the squirrel was annoyed at me
Its actually more of a way of "NOT" communicating, usually with others during territorial disputes and NUTritious treats they've hidden all around said territory...but you're totally right, that they look at eachother's tails and examine the posture the same way we focus on another person's face for cues and clues as to how that squirrel is doing and what it's emotional state is...just as most all mammals and animals will try to attempt to "Read Body Language" when encountering one another and those most similar to their species,(Chipmunks, 'Squip'monks,etc...)or at least with those close enough to be analogous in Chromosomal Structure and Genetic Ancestry...idk prolly a bunch of unsolicited garbage that nobody cares to read...but thanks for making it this far either way lol😂😅

She kept running to & fro, lifting her outstretched arms in a begging gesture, reflect & speak volumes of her desperate need to quench her thirst.
Respect & honour anyone who is willing to shower love,❤️ compassion & kindness towards animals in desperate & devastating needs & situation.
Not to forget, it was so desperate to quench its thirst that it didn't even get scared or afraid of the humans.
