A log arch would make your life so much easier moving logs. You would not need to carry them sideways up the trails, just pull hem behind the tractor or even the wheeler.
I appreciate every time that Greg takes a moment to be grateful for doing this type of work rather than working or being somewhere else. It's a good reminder to us all to just stop and notice what we have. 💜
A easy way to figure out what size post out of a log is,if you want a 6x6 is 6x1.41=8.46 you would need a 8 1/2 “ log to make a 6 x6 post. 4” post 4 x 1.41= 5.64. So you would need a 6 3/4“ log and so fourth. If you have a log that’s 13” 13 divided by 1.41 = 9 1/4 so you could make a 9 1/4” post.

Suggestion: cut a 6x6 block and use it to check the end of the logs. Can even hold it against the log end and use it to mark your cuts. 😊❤
the other easy option is to make a cardboard cutout of the size that you require
The new road is also an awesome fire break, god forbid if there is an ever fire coming your guys way. Lots of work being done and looks amazing.
Building you own home is a life-time of work. It never ends there is Always MORE you can do. I built our house over 40 years ago in a 5 acre hay field in Missouri. Every tree and bush; each flower bed; planted with love and cared for by my wife and I. Would not trade our experience and memories for anything. Sometimes when I am mowing or "gardening" I kinda wish our yard was a little bit smaller. I really respect what you two young people are doing.

Great video...that road that Greg was creating looks great...really impressive handling of the tracker...watching all the work you do around the homestead is not only impressive, but deeply satisfying. I love watching the lumber work, from cutting up logs to making boards. Must be the long line of lumbermen in my family, including my son. He has his own small milling business, which comes in very handy indeed.

How about you use a couple of snatch blocks to pull that large tree out. Double your tractors pulling power with a simple block and tackle setup. Works great. I've used one or two snatch blocks with the winch on my sxs at our place in the mountains pulling logs out of the woods.
Once you get the bulldozer operating better, things will become much easier, (your little tractor and you are doing a stirling job though Greg) maybe even widen the new road a bit more using the dozzer, and with its extra weight, you can compact the road down better, you'l get there in the end, of that I have no doubt, You and Katie work so well together, but work safely.

Suggestion: put a heavy log on the blade as a counterweight.
Dozer , Dozer , it will push over and pull anything on your property and also do the work that you just did with your tractor in about 1/10 th of the time !
Love that you can mill your own lumber with trees from the property, & cant blame ya for wanting to construct a fence to keep the doggies safe from the wild great idea !. I get great pleasure watching you felling the trees you need and in doing so make room for the others to grow. and yet giving you folks a great view of the landscape around you. Katie, you guys need to look into a used excavator. Also maybe a grapple bucket to go on it.

Have you ever seen the 2 wheel carts that uses a chain to lift the front of the log and drag the back. Horse drawn sleds were similar, tow the log
Actually, you should be dragging the heavy logs with the bulldozer. It’s much safer. An old man told me once that you never move heavy logs with rubber tires; always tracks.
Get a set of log tongs. Makes grabbing and skidding logs a ton easier
Personal opinion, it's okay to have bark on the outside of your lumber, and actually it makes it look beautiful. I also love the leaf blower...
Bugs like the bark too though, so you may end up with issues later

Hi Greg, There are a couple of things that you may consider to make moving timber far easier and with less effort (work smart not hard) If you google two things 1 tying a timber hitch which is the correct method and 2 blocks and tackle which doubles the pulling power adding one pulley block correctly.I hope that these suggestions are of benefit to you.

My wife and I have been watching your channel for several months. Really like the content. We bought an LS MT125 compact tractor almost 2 yrs ago. My wife to talked me into buying a grapple at the same time. Man, that was the best purchase we've made for the tractor. The grapple makes moving fire wood and brush a heck of a lot easier. We wouldn't be without it.

You guys need a grapple for the tractor to help when moving logs and brush. That roadway will be helpful when building your fences. Thanks for the video.
I think those tractor forks are too long for much of what I see you doing with the tractor, and a lot of the time you seem to run loads with them set too high - keep 'em low and tilted well back and perhaps take a minute or two to use straps or chains on the load you are carrying!
I'd recommend making a compact concrete counterweight for the rear three point linkage - not only will it prevent the rear wheels lifting off it will also increase traction.
The tractor without the wide scraper blade hanging off the rear end would also be more manoeuvrable as well.
It was good to see the place getting a tidy up too: you can't beat a good bonfire so nice work!

Tractor fence tensioning could be exciting. Exciting is what something is until someone gets hurt, then it is instantly dangerous. Cable come along is the best for tensioning, good luck.

Greg are your rear tires filled with fluid for ballast. If not I would try that. Also using a snatch block to pull trees will help. Use your truck to pull your trees and cut them up where you can get them easily.

Yeah that dozer would make short work on that road. Make you can drag the big logs up to the mill? Maybe use logs adjacent to the log so it rolls. You would just need a few good rolling logs.
Why not - cut a piece of waste siding or something flat into a 6x6 square. nail it on a stick, and then just hold it to the end of the log and paint around it? easy, no measure

I worked on a breaking down saw in a mill in NZ 60 years ago. They taught me to cut railway sleepers with the heart ( pith) in the centre, but I never knew why. Thank you
I have learned the hard way, I have cut many timbers that twist because of the heart on the side of the board.
another idea.....i know on my kubota it came w a class 1 reese hitch i can put on the back of the tractor. you could get a largeish winch and the reese mounting plate for it and then put on the tractor and pull logs onto the rd w that on the roadway where u cant really turn to get right at them

you know what I did to mark the small logs quick I cut a 6x6 piece of plywood and traced it on the end works great

I could watch log milling all day long...lol 😂 Awesome job on the cleanup, it really makes the property look great. I'm wondering why Greg just doesn't drag the larger logs to the mill, instead of bringing the precariously on the tractor forks? Love ya'll ❤
Hey Russell, it's the dirt. If I drag logs home, they destroy my blades, I have done it in the past, but it is very tough to get the dirt off.

Use the little saw like a chain saw it will cut a hole lot better ........you got to member its a chain it does work just like a big one
Also the path you are cutting in with the tractor should be with the bulldozer. It’s so much safer and more efficient. I know you are aware of it.
Cut a 6x6 template with a hole in the middle and put your tape measure away

Predators- black bear, wolves, coyotes? Our biggest prob. here is cats digging in the flower bed ☹️🤣!

Why not take some of those big logs and use them for hill embankment to prevent erosion. Especially along your road?

Just watched a video that I plan to try myself. Guy used a template to mark out the cant size he wanted, on the end of the log. He used steel,which seemed a bit excessive to me. I'll make a few plywood squares to try.

I love how everyone was getting at you to buy a pair of forks for the tractor and then when you finally do get them they now say buy a grapple forks for the tractor and while i have to agree with getting them but only as another implement along side your forks as the grapple fork ive seen people digging up trees with them as well as pushing trees down well i say trees they were about 6 inch diameter saplings but they sure made short work of digging and pushing them down they were excellent for bramble pile removal and big log movers. But you buy whatever you think is best for what you want done.😂😂😂
